Chapter 4: Dealing with the Devil
"Wait what?"
"I need your to help to make Brooke fall in love with me."
"Could you repeat that again?"
"I need your to help to make Brooke fall in love with me."
"Now 3 times fast."
"I need your to help to make Brooke fall in love with me. I need your to help to make Brooke fall in love with me. I-" He figured out what I was doing and frowned at me. "That's not funny."
I turned away, keeping a straight face. "Well it kinda is..."
"Will you help me or not?"
"I'm sorry, I can't help. It's theoretically impossible."
"You can help, you just won't. "
"And what if I can? As her best friend I can't no, I won't do that. "
"I'm not asking you to steal Cupid's arrows, you have to help me."
"It's pointless. She sees you as some rich, playboy jerk, which you are."
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Could you at least think about it?"
"I did." I crossed my arms, looking up as if I was thinking something really thoroughly. "There I did it. And the answer is still no."
He stepped closer to me, making me back up. "Just think about it."
"No."
"Think about it." He asked, with more force into his voice.
"No."
"Please." He said, softly this time.
I looked straight into his eyes making me confused. His eyes, they look desperate, pleading to me. I always thought his gray eyes were sharp and cold, but now that I see. They were soft, and were begging me to help. I slumped my shoulders and lowered my head in defeat.
"Okay, I'll think of something."
"Than-"
"But don't think I will have her fall in love with you any time soon. I see you as some playboy who always gets what he wants, and you want Brooke to become another victim. And Brooke still does as well."
"Then why help me?"
I didn't have any answer for that.
"Let me just warn you, Wyatt Mathews." I stood straighter to meet his eyes and tapped on his chest with each word. "It could take her years to fall in love with you, but only seconds to hate you once more."
I quickly turned on my heel and walked to class. I think I just made a deal with the devil. With only the devil having the benefit, and having me nothing to gain.
The last day of school before winter vacation. The second to last period before winter vacation, is none other than P.E. Don't worry, I have nothing against P.E, I have an A for it. My teacher, Ms. Harris has an easy class, so it's easy to get an A, unless you don't change to your P.E uniform or just really lazy. The only thing dread about P.E is him, Wyatt Matthews. So as I pay attention to Ms. Harris and her long, boring lecture of winter vacation, I could feel his eyes boring a hole at my back, and it burns. It's already been a week since our "deal." And I've been doing all I can to not think about it, it can't be possible. She hates him, he loves her, sure I've heard of love-hate relationships, but it won't be possible for these two alphas.
"Class is dismissed, I hope you have a great winter vacation." Ms. Harris said.
Thank you! I took off and sprinted to the field before Wyatt could catch me. We have a free day today for P.E since it's the last day before break, so all I have to do it avoid him until then. I looked back to see Wyatt looking for me, with his friends jogging up to him. I went to find a hiding spot to camp until school ends, there are 2 huge bins at the corner of the field used to store sports equipment. The bins are a few feet away from each other, and the first bin on the corner is moved forward showing a secret compartment. No one knows this, and I'm expecting to make it stay that way.
I looked left and right to see no one looking and went through the passage and sat down in the compartments. I sat down on my backpack, now what could I do?
"I swear I saw her here." I heard someone said.
Oh crap! They must be meaning me.
"You need glasses you idiot." I think Dean said.
"I do not!"
"Do to."
"Do not."
"Do to."
"Guys, just stop arguing for once." I heard Wyatt said. "She has to be close."
"Fine, whatever."
"Let's check over there."
I heard their footsteps retreading, I sighed with relief. I'm safe, they're stupid. But something was wrong, I only heard 3 voices. There had to be 4 voices, not 3. Suddenly the temperature rose, someone's still here. I could feel someone's presence, this is a scary feeling. I looked to my left to see a crack, Wyatt was pacing around then stopped. He looked at his hand, each finger going down, like he was counting down to something.
5-4-3-2-1
"Gotcha!"
I shrieked at the sight of Cyrus Jones.
"Come here Autumn, I'm not going to hurt you. But you should no better. No one can get away from Wyatt that easily. You guys, I got her."
I sighed, defeated. He grabbed me arm and hauled me up and out of my secret base. Cyrus Jones, I should have known. Wyatt's best friend, his accomplice, his right hand man, he wasn't here for the past few weeks for "family matters" people say. He's tall and has a skinny frame with has short black tousled hair and bright blue eyes, freckles, and wears black plugs. He honestly looks like a nice guy, always wearing a wicked grin that shows dimples. But don't let his looks fool you, he has a record just as bad as Wyatt.
I stood with my back against the wall, looking defeated. All four of them surrounded me, Cyrus Jones, Dean Rodriguez, Luis Stinson and Wyatt Matthews. The baddest boys in school, oh I'm in such a huge mess. They gave me some space and Wyatt looked at me with a smirk.
"Well, do you have your answer?"
"Yes. Yes I do."
"And so what will it be?"
"I can't Wyatt, I just can't."
"Hey, maybe we can, oh I don't know, talk her into saying yes." Luis said.
Cyrus snorted. "Like what?"
"Me, maybe?"
"Uh no." I said. "I would like to give you the reason, but I'm afraid the insult is something you wouldn't understand."
Luis's jaw dropped as Wyatt, Cyrus, and Dean burst out laughing.
"You just got smart slapped by a girl."
"You're one to talk." Luis growled.
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah."
Luis grabbed Dean and pulled him to the ground. They started to fight, rolling around on the floor. I stepped forward to try to stop them, but Cyrus pulled me back.
"That's not a good idea, you'll just get in the middle of it. Trust me, I learned from experience." He said with a smirk. "They'll stop in a few minutes."
"Let's talk." Wyatt said.
"Okay," Cyrus said.
"Alone." Wyatt told Cyrus.
"Ohh. I'll just stay here with these idiots."
Both of them looked at each other in a hard stare.
"10 bucks for Luis." Wyatt said.
"10 bucks for Dean." Cyrus said.
"Get your piggy bank ready, CJ."
"Get you college fund out, oh wait you don't have one."
"You want to do this?"
"Do you? Cause I could."
"Right here? Right now.?"
"Yeah."
Wyatt jumped on Cyrus, making him crash onto the ground. They got into the fight with Dean and Luis, and soon all of them were in one huge fight.
I groaned. "I am surrounded by idiots."
But I saw this as my chance. I picked up my backpack and walked around the fight. I was almost free from the corner when someone crashed into me.
Cyrus grinned. "Hello Autumn, where do you think you're going?"
So close. So, so close.
"Why do you like her?" I asked as we sat down on a bench.
We were isolated all the way at the other side of the field. Everyone else was playing or hanging out all the way across the field. Cyrus, Dean and Luis were playing soccer at the soccer field.
"I don't know, it's just... I don't know."
"That's not an answer."
"I know. It's just, ugh, this is so hard."
I couldn't help but smile at his frustration. "Why?"
"I'm a guy. We never talk about our feelings for a girl, only comments like 'damn, she's hot. And did you see that-'."
"Let's not get off topic Wyatt."
"Yeah, sorry." He muttered. "She's really hot, that's one reason. And you have to admit." He stopped himself.
"Admit what?"
"Well you know." He held out his palms and put it in front of his chest, then giving me the look.
I got up and started to walk away.
"No wait, wait." He got up and grabbed my hand. "I was kidding, okay maybe it's true. But you know it's true too."
I sat back down. "I am not going to discuss about that."
"Okay fine. What else, she's really pretty."
"You said that already, or a synonym of it."
"Right, I was always a sucker for blonds."
"Uh huh."
He started pacing back and forth. "And something about her. She just plays hard to get and I never had a girl not fall for me."
"Wow, you do not know how conceited you just sound right now."
"Hey, Wyatt!" Cyrus yelled.
Wyatt turned and just in time he kicked the soccer ball just before it smashed into me.
"Oh god."
He smiled. "One second late and you would need a nose job." He said, adding. "Not that you need one, of course."
"Yeah, thanks."
Wyatt's really good at soccer, well any kind of sport. But strangely enough he isn't the team captain for any sports. He sat down next to me.
"I just really like her. And can't stop thinking of her, but-"
"You're already too late. Isaac got her first."
"Yeah, Isaac. She is way out of his league."
I raised an eyebrow. "And you are?"
"I'm not saying that."
"You might as well wave a flag that says it, cause you are."
"Okay, maybe I am. So what? That won't help me get her to like me."
"What will you do once she falls in love with you?"
"Once?"
"I mean if, if she falls in love with you. Will you do what you must then leave her in the dust?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Oh like come on. Don't play dumb with me. You must have heard of those rumors on what you do once you get what you want."
"And that's why they're call rumors not facts."
That shut me up. I stared at the ground. "I'm sorry."
I saw him show a faint smile. "It's fine, Princess."
I looked at him. "Is that your nickname for me?"
"Why do you like something else?"
I shook my head and looked away. "No, I like Princess just fine."
Dean kicked the soccer ball and it rolled over to us.
"Can you aim?!" He yelled to the guys.
He was about to get up but I stopped it.
"Can I do it?" I asked.
"What?"
"Please, I want to kick the ball." I begged, pouting.
"Um okay. Just don't hurt yourself."
I made a sly grin. I got up and flicked the ball up then held it on my right foot. I started to do some kick ups, Cyrus and Luis began to cheer. I held the ball on my nose and looked at Wyatt who sat there dumbfounded. I smiled and winked at him. Then I kicked it in the air, and with perfect timing I kicked the ball. The soccer ball flew right into Dean making him crash onto the ground.
"Oooh," Wyatt said, "That gotta hurt."
I waved at Dean. "Sorry!"
He slowly raised his arm and gave me a thumbs up. I looked back at Wyatt who looked at me with curiosity.
I shrugged. "I love to play soccer ever since I was in 3rd grade."
"Note to self: Don't anger Princess."
"Or else Princess will kick you in the groin." I added.
The school bell rang for the end of 5th period. Wyatt and I began to walk out of the field.
"6th period, last period before winter break." I smiled.
"Who do you have for next period?" Wyatt asked me.
"Mr. Campbell, math. What about you?"
"I got science with Ms. Vargas."
"Oh." I began to walk to my class. "Well, see you."
"Hey, wait up."
I stopped. "Yeah, what?"
"Let me walk you to class."
I swear, I just blushed crimson red. But I look on the ground before Wyatt could see it. I never had a guy walk me to class, and this is the Wyatt Matthews.
"Yeah?" He asked me.
"But isn't Ms. Vargas at the other side of the school?"
He shrugged. "She's boring, I think I won't care if I'm late to her class."
"Let's just walk around the middle of the school, to make it fair for the both of us to go to class in time."
"Suit yourself."
We started to walk, side by side. I felt cold glances from the other girls. Oh the crap I'm going to hear from the others, from Brooke. Time to time Wyatt would make small talk with his friends and I had to wait next to him, looking interested in something else. Then we continued walking through the hallways and up the stairs, we also talked about ourselves too.
"So you know a bit of German?" I asked, incredulously.
"Yup."
"Well? Say something in German."
"Hallo."
"Hello?" I said. This is German?
"Yeah, hallo mean hello in German."
I shoved him playfully. "Liar!"
I saw Isaac pass by us. He gave me a knowing smile and winked at me. Aw crap, now everyone will know from him.
"I'm serious!" Wyatt laughed. "Okay here's another one. Danke."
"Does it mean, dander?
"What?"
"Dander means a feeling of anger. Or small scales in animals that cause allergies."
"Why would I say that in German? Is it just because they sound the same?"
"Uh yeah."
"Well it isn't."
"Aren't you're going to tell me?"
"Nope."
"Huh, why?"
"Just because."
"Tell me."
"It means thank you. As in thank you Princess."
I gave a faint smile. I saw everyone in my class shuffling to class.
"I have to go."
"Why?"
"Class?"
"Then ditch."
If I was drinking a class of water, I would have done a spit take. And I wouldn't care if it was on Wyatt, okay maybe I would.
"Ditch as in ding dong ditch? Like ditch class?"
"Yeah. It's okay."
"No it isn't. There's attendance and friends who will worry and-"
"I'm not forcing you Autumn." He said, calming me down. "It was just a suggestion."
He started to walk away. "See you."
I shyly waved back. "Bye."
"Autumn! Autumn Griffin." Mr. Campbell said.
I quickly went to class and sat down. Lauri, a friend of me looked at me. "Autumn, why are you late? You're never late."
That's when I told her that Wyatt and I walked and talked to together. Might as well, people will hear about it sooner or later. Then I told her that he asked me to ditch with him.
"Why didn't you do it?"
"We have a test and there's attendance."
She shook her head, giving a disappointed look. With a shrug, she looked back to listen to the lecture. "I would have done it, if that happened to me."
I snorted. "As if."
Mr. Campbell started the lesson, but something made me not listen the lesson. Even if it was wrong to ditch, I don't anyone who ditches. Though I saw a huge group of girls that ditched and I watched as they were being lectured by the guidance counselor. But even if I knew, ditching couldn't work. That you will obviously caught.
I couldn't help but feel a bit tempted to.
So remember that I said this story is based on true events? Well some of these conversation, and stuff really happened. Or maybe none of this happened. Now it's up to you. Yah you, to guess which was real and which was not.
Use that brain of yours, even if people only use 1% of their brain. What did I say was true? What did I say was false? What did I add to make the chapter a bit more interesting? Vomment your opinion! And look at my profile bio, you'll maybe see a certain sport that I like to do that was said here....
