It was Tuesday afternoon. We had no school because it was the day that Mrs Jim's funeral was held but I doubt if we would have school anyway after what happened the day before. Luckily no one got serious hurt, there was just a lot of properties damage.

I first thought of going to Mrs Jim's funeral but I couldn't, I still felt really guilty. I didn't think I would have been able to face her family without breaking down. 'I could have stopped the accident from happening, I had a chance to do something and I did nothing' those were the thoughts that was running on my mind. So instead I decided that I would go that weekend to pay a visit on her tombstone. Sherry decided to not go also because I wasn't going and she didn't want to leave me home alone. Although I pretended that it was okay she should go, I was relieved when she refused. I didn't want to be alone, I needed company.

We were sitting in the living room, the tv was on and there was some random show on it. I don't know about it because my mind was on Mrs Jim, Sherry was also busy writing god knows what on her notebook.

"What are you writing?" I decided to ask her or maybe it was my attempt to get my mind off Mrs Jim. Sherry didn't say anything, she just held her index finger at me motioning one minute and continued scribbling down.

"Okay," she finally said after some few minutes. I looked at her.

"I have put down some important notes. What we know and what we don't so that we can find the missing puzzles, now listen and tell me if I am right or if I have missed anything," she said in a serious tone. That's when I noticed she was wearing her glasses and her hair was up in a high tight bun, something she does when she is all business.

"Did your birth parents tell you anything about other witches and hunters, do you remember anything?" she first asked.

"From what I remember I think they said something about they were all wiped out by vampires and werewolves that's why they had to run away from their hometown," I answered her. She wrote something down and looked up again.

"Okay....so first we have a fact that witch and hunters do exists and that there's a possibility that there are no others a part from you. We also have a possibility that vampires and werewolves also do exists," she stopped and looked at me for confirmation and I nodded.

"You have never really come across any vampire or werewolves, the only ones you saw were the ones that burnt your house and It was far so you could have been wrong," I nodded again.

"So the only reliable clue of vampire and werewolves existance is the stories your parents told you," she concluded.

"Do you remember the names of your parents? We might be able to find something from them," she asked.

"Yeah, I remember them. My name was a combination of my parents names Katherine and Lameck Yardley," I told her.

"Oh really!! That's sweet....I'll check in the internet to see if I can find anything," she said while writing the names down.

"Ok, moving on...Betty is being suspiciously weird since the day of your birthday and what happened yesterday doesn't help her case. She could have easily saved herself in that fire but she didn't or couldn't, why? That's our first question," she told me.

"I also find that very suspicious. Or maybe it's just us, she could have asthma or something which she didn't mention to me," I gave out my opinion although I wasn't really convinced myself with that. I have known her for ten years for God's sake! There's no way I wouldn't know that but then that was the only possible reason I could think of.

"I doubt that but that's not our major concern right now, we will get to that. So Luke, Kyle and Britney are also being suspicious and it also started on your birthday....Come to think of it everything started on the day of your birthday," she paused and looked at me. I nodded, realising that too.

"There's a high chance that Britney knows about who you are," she told me.

"Why?" I  asked her, giving her my full attention.

"Think about it Kayla. She asked you if you are a witch when you encountered her in a library; which you thought was an insult. What if it wasn't an insult?" she reasoned.

"Yeah right, I totally forgot about that. But still, how can she know that I am a witch when I myself didn't have knowledge of that by then? that could be just an insult," I argued.

"Yeah, it could be. But then why would she think that you're behind her falling?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.

"It's true, there's that too. Then if it's true that she knows then how do you think she knew that?" I asked.

"That's what we are going to find out first," she said with an evil smile.

"How? What's in that wicked mind of yours?" I asked curiously.

"From what we have gathered Britney is the most suspicious of all of them and if we are going to find anything out then it's from her. We have to get her to meet us alone somehow and then you will threat or torture her and demand the truth from her," she laid down her plan. I smiled.

"I don't mind torturing her to find the truth, it will be my pleasure but the problem is will she ever agree to meet us, and alone at that," I asked.

"You have a point there," she sighed the same time I did.

"I bet the only person she would agree to meet alone is Luke," I sighed again.

Sherry immediately jolted up and hugged me "You are a genius Kayla," she told me after releasing me.

"What? What did I do?" I ask dumbfounded.

"You just figured a way to get Britney out alone to meet us, she has to think that she is meeting Luke," she said wiggling her eyebrows with a smile on her face.

"And how the hell would we do that? Knowing Britney there's no way she doesn't have Luke's number, she will get suspicious if she is texted by a new number claiming to be Luke's, it won't work," I told her.

"Oh dear! Just leave that to me...she will come. She will get a text from Luke and come," she smiled and walked away laughing evily.

What is she thinking? What is her plan? I sighed. That was one among many other times I felt outsmarted by her. Sherry is a smart kid, she has always been smart, perfect grades and all. She would notice every small little detail that everyone has missed, she would figure out solutions to everything easily. It's not like I am dumb or anything it's just that sometimes I can't help but feel I am, and that was one of those times.

It was almost evening and I decided to go to Betty's home to check up on her, nobody gave me any news of her yet after what happened in the cafeteria and I was getting worried.

Betty and I don't live very far apart. I put my black coat and my knee high brown boots on and walk into Sherry's room. She was lying on her bed with her head hanged at the edge, she was holding her phone in front of her face in that weird pose and she was what I think messaging someone.

"Must you do everything weirdly?" I shook my head at her.

"Oh hi there, when did you get here? Are you going somewhere," she asked after glancing at me.

"Yeah, I'm going to check up on Betty. I still haven't heard any news of her since the accident," I told her.

"Oh okay, good luck with that. Hope she will talk to you this time," she told me while getting back to whatever she was doing on her phone. I sighed and walked away. I hope she does talk to me.

The walk towards Betty's house wasn't that long as she only lives five blocks away. I passed through the park Betty and I used to went to when we were young. It's a place I first met Betty, it was few days after her mother and her moved into our street. I was also still new into the streets so I didn't have any friends by then. So I sat alone on the bench and looked at other kids playing. Betty being the social butterfly she is she came to me and asked me my name and if I wanted to play with her. She accomplished something which I couldn't in two weeks when it was her first time there.

I stopped infront of Betty's house door and as I was about to knock I noticed it was already opened, so I pushed the door and got in "Mrs Thomas, why is your front d..."

"What is going on here?" I asked after seeing the horrible sight that was infront of me. Did I see right? I just walked in at the sight of Betty and Luke hugging. Betty was sobbing on Luke's shoulder while Luke was sweetly patting her back.

Although Betty has been Luke's best friend's girlfriend, they had never been close to each other to the extent of consoling each other so that was news to me. And to make matters worse they quickly backed far away from each other after hearing my voice as if they weren't in each other arms just then.

"It is not what you think," Betty quickly got defensive.

"And what is that am I thinking?" I scoffed.

"I can't believe I was worried about you. I am so naive! So this was it? The reason why you two were acting that way? Does Kyle even know? What am I saying! Of course he doesn't," I felt tears running down my cheeks and I didn't make any attempt to hold them back.

"Kayla, I can explain," Luke said while moving closer to me. I immediately backed away.

"Why do you need to explain? Why should you explain? Why? You don't have to look so apologetic to me, it's not like we were dating or anything. And last I checked Betty and I were no longer friends, she made that very clear" I yelled at them before turning around and ran out. I could feel someone coming after me so I immediately made the door locked itself when I was out. That would keep them from following me for a while.

I decided to take the longest route home so that I can clear my mind. I was glad the road was empty since the sun already settled down, with the winter season it was too cold to stay outside after sunset. My heart was hurting so much that feeling cold was the least of my concern. Many things were running in my mind.

This is too much? How can they? How can Betty do this to me? When I thought I already ran out of bad things to happen to me once again I was proven wrong. What did I do to deserve all of these? I felt like yelling and so that's what I did, I yelled and yelled and yelled until I could no longer hear my voice.
