Chapter 5 Part 8: Miu's Second Free Time Event
Your POV:
It seemed that every near death experience at this school led to more information being revealed. It was like some sort of crazy pattern that would always grace everyone with a feeling of dread. In other words, the happiness we all felt in any way would be disrupted.
That could be said for what was just found out. Starting after Rantaro was revealed to be alive, words on a rock in the courtyard started to appear, and each time someone was found dead, and even after I was able to revive them, more words kept being added on.
During the time that these words started appearing, we had no idea what they were supposed to say. It was that way leading up until now, where we finally knew what the message was supposed to say.
"This world is mine," I muttered, "Kokichi Oma."
Those words left my mouth in a quiet mutter, showing how nervous I was over the ordeal. If this message was in any way, shape, or form accurate, then there was only one thing that message could've meant.
Before I could put more thought into everything, Tsumugi mentioned that what I said out loud was what the message said. I honestly still had no idea what that message was, or why it was even here. That was the main thing I was confused on.
"...This world is mine?" Maki asked.
"Wh-What's going on?" Himiko asked nervously, "why is Kokichi's name—"
"Heh, so that's what it means," Kaito spoke up, interrupting Himiko, "it was all just a prank by Kokichi."
"You say that, but I don't think it's fuckin' true!" Miu shouted in protest, "you say that this whole thing is a prank by that fuckin' psycho, but remember that he tried to kill me by using Gonta!"
"I know that what you say is true, but you do forget that you tried to kill Kokichi as well," Ryoma stated, "he was obviously trying to save his own skin, but I still don't know whether this is a prank or not."
"It has to be a prank!" Kaito exclaimed, "he kept adding onto that message just to make fun of us. That guy is seriously messed up..."
"It would be very common for a degenerate like Kokichi to mess with us like that," Tenko muttered angrily, "I've never met a degenerate as horrible as Kokichi is..."
There were a lot of valid points being brought up. Kokichi defiantly used Gonta to try and kill Miu, but Miu did try to kill Kokichi. Kokichi was also more of a prankster, so him doing something like this wouldn't be surprising in the least. There had to be more to this though. I couldn't shake every though racing through my mind as I tried to figure out what this message actually meant.
Something like this seemed way too elaborate to just be some sort of prank. I had no idea if this was true, or if Kokichi was just messing with all of us. That was the thing that was so confusing. Kokichi was so much of an enigma that I couldn't help but be confused by what this all actually meant.
"Well, who cares about Kokichi," Kaito stated in response, "more importantly, what about the Flashback Light?"
"It seems no one has found it yet," Keebo stated, "that's kinda surprising considering we still have many people in our groups."
"Maybe...that's Kokichi's fault, too?" Himiko mentioned as more of a question, "he probably found it first and hid it."
"Hm, that is possible," Maki replied, biting her nail in what seemed to be frustration.
I knew very well that it was possible that Kokichi could've found and hid the Flashback Light, but why was the subject changed so drastically? I felt like we needed to talk about the message on the rock, but Kaito didn't seem to care just because of the fact that Kokichi was a prankster.
"If that is the case, then we should find him before he does anything—" Kirumi explained before...
"No, there's no need to bother with him..." Kaito muttered, interrupting Kirumi, "the best way to deal with guys like him is to ignore them. So let's just leave him be."
"You say that, Kaito, but what if this is something more serious than that?" Rantaro asked, "I would think that just flat out ignoring this would give Kokichi an advantage. It does make sense, yeah? If we ignore him, then he will continue to do whatever he is planning."
"And you do forget that you were the one who always got the angriest with him out of all of us," Maki added.
"Gonta hate to cut in but..." Gonta muttered, "shouldn't friends talk more about strange words on rock?"
"I kinda agree," Kaede said in response to Gonta's words, "shouldn't we try and figure out what the message is supposed to entail?"
I knew I wasn't saying anything even though I wanted to. I really wanted to say something about this whole situation, but I knew if I said something, Kaito would just ignore me. That was just how he was right now, and I didn't even know what I did to deserve it.
Kaito was someone I looked up to in terms of getting myself on more of a positive mindset, but now, he wouldn't even look at me. I didn't even know what I was supposed to do now. I knew Rantaro felt the same way I did, and so did some of the others. It was just Kaito dismissing everything that Kokichi was doing that was changing the conversation.
"You guys shouldn't be worrying about that..." Kaito muttered, "because I've been thinking about something."
"Thinking about?" Tsumugi asked.
"It's still a little too early to tell you guys, but..." Kaito trailed off, "well, just leave it to me. There's no need for you guys to worry. I'll figure it all out."
"Figure what out..?" Maki asked in response.
"I mean I'm going to get you guys out of here," Kaito explained.
I was slightly confused on what I was hearing from Kaito. He was going to get us out of here? If so, then how? The only way we knew of to get out of here was the underground tunnel, but that was more or less impossible. The place was riddled with traps, so I didn't even know if it was possible to complete.
"Kaito, I know you want to get everyone out of here, but you're confidence is kinda reckless," Kaede explained, "we need to think of a—"
"Nyeh, quit being so reckless, Kaito..." Himiko added, interrupting Kaede.
"Reckless?" Kaito asked in response, "heh, you guys just don't get it. Geez, heroes are always misunderstood."
"Hero or whatever, it doesn't matter..." Maki muttered in response, "just don't overdo it."
"Yeah, just leave it to me!" Kaito exclaimed in response.
I knew Kaito had a lot of confidence. His confidence seemed baseless to me sometimes, and that's how this whole thing was. Even though Kaito wasn't talking to me or looking me in the eye for some reason... it was a relief to me to have someone this confident. This whole thing made me feel that he was actually a hero, but what did that mean for me?
Sadly, none of us were able to find the Flashback Light. We all decided that we were going to leave the dining hall, and head to our respective rooms. As I walked to my room, I couldn't help but think about the message Kokichi left. Kaito steered the conversation in his favor, so some of the others were just ignoring the message.
I honestly couldn't ignore the message. Even if it was Kokichi, I had a feeling there was more to the message. I walked into my dorm with an exhausted expression on my face. So much has happened today.
We unlocked new areas of the school, and the message from Kokichi was enough to falter anyone. Despite that, there was still some free time left. I wondered what I was going to do with that said free time. Should I try and relax, or try and think about what Kokichi's message was supposed to mean...?
I felt conflicted over what to do at this point in time, and it wasn't a very nice feeling. It was stressful trying to figure out if Kokichi was serious, or if he was just trying to prank everyone. With Kokichi, I didn't even know, and that was the part that really got me.
As I was trying to think about what to do, I heard the doorbell chime, signifying that someone was at the door. I had a few guesses on who it could be, but I wasn't so sure anymore. Anything could happen, and that was the truth. I could think one thing, and it wouldn't be that. All I wanted was to know what was going on.
With a tired expression, I walked over to my door. I honestly wish I could figure out what exactly was going on, but for some reason, I felt mentally drained. Maybe talking with someone would make me feel less drained. That was only a possibility.
I opened the door, and instantly, I saw Miu standing in front of the door, her hands on her hips as if she was waiting an eternity for me to open the door. She had a slightly angered look on her face as she was staring at me.
"Hey, you fuckin' Otaku," Miu greeted with an angry tone, "we need to talk, now!"
Before I could say anything, Miu pushed past me, welcoming herself in my dorm room without being invited in. As soon as she got herself into my dorm room, she walked over to my bed before plopping herself onto it, crossing one of her legs over the other one as she stared at me.
As for me, I was slightly shocked over what just happened, and it was taking me a moment to process it. Miu was so brash that it was hard for me to keep my cool around her at some points.
"Miu, why are you here?" I asked, "I thought you didn't like me..."
Miu seemed to scoff lightly in response to my words, seeming unphased by them. She seemed to let out a sigh before responding to the words that just came out of my mouth.
"I don't fuckin' hate you!" Miu exclaimed, "even though you're bossy, you still stood up for me, but that's not what this is about, so you better have time to talk."
As soon as those words left Miu's mouth, I knew what this had to be about. She was wondering how she was still alive. That much was obvious since she tried to attack Kokichi. The only reason he wasn't hurt was because I kept her from doing so. She probably still had many questions about what was going on, and I did as well.
I was still trying to pull my head around what happened. I never cried on Miu, so the only way she would be alive right now was if someone else knew about my ability, and chances were... it was the mastermind.
I now knew very well where my free time for the day was going to go. I was going to get closer to Miu whether I liked it or not, and that was the truth of the situation, and I accepted it. There was nothing else I could do but listen to her and talk to her about whatever she wanted to know.
"Before we start, how's the prototype I made working out for you?" Miu asked as a smile appeared on her face, "pretty fuckin' good amirite!?"
"Yeah," I replied, "but what did you want to talk to me about?"
"Come on, (y/n), you know you want to do it with me," Miu said with a lewd expression on her face, "maybe you should turn that thing on, so no one can hear us."
I could feel myself grow shocked and confused. I had no idea if Miu was being serious or not, but there was another possibility. Maybe Miu was acting this way to get me to turn on the device and not have the mastermind or Monokuma question anything. It was a risky gamble considering Miu did have quite the mouth. Maybe having this talk with her would get me to understand the situation more, and hopefully it wouldn't lead to anything inappropriate going on.
With a nervous expression, I grabbed the device that Miu made, my hands trembling as I tried to turn it off and keep my composure. I was still nervous about this whole thing, and I didn't even know where this was going to do. It seemed that soon enough, I was able to gain the composure to finally turn the device on. As soon as I did that, Miu's lewd expression turned into something more serious.
"Jeez, if you can tell if Kokichi is lying, you should be able to tell if someone else is fuckin' bluffin'," Miu stated, "you can't be that much of an idiot, right? I'm still waiting for the day where you and Rantaro fuck the shit out of each other, however, this isn't what this is about."
"Then what is this about?" I asked in response, "you made me nervous for no reason, and you know I'm in a relationship."
"Who gives a rat's ass about that?" Miu asked, "in any case, when Kirumi was somehow brought back, you were there, and the same went for Angie, and Ryoma. What the hell is going on?"
Miu was looking at me with a serious expression on her face as those words left her mouth. I could tell she was serious. I honestly thought she was going to talk to me about how much she disliked Kokichi, but I was wrong. I was silent, and I knew I had to tell her.
"Look, you may think I'm a dumbass, but I noticed all of this but said nothing," Miu explained, "A gorgeous girl genius like me could see that pattern from a mile away! I'm guessing if it's you behind this whole fuckin' shit show, you told everyone who was brought back. So that means you have to fuckin' tell me, and I won't leave until you do!"
"Miu, I want to tell you everything, but I'm very confused right now," I muttered, "things aren't adding up, and I don't know what's going on..."
"What does that mean?" Miu asked in response, "what do you take me for!? Some sort of fuckin' idiot!? I know you're at least involved, so you better fuckin' tell me!"
"Okay, okay fine!" I exclaimed, "just keep your voice down. If you don't, everyone will hear us! This dorm room isn't sound proof!" I think that the white noise machine has some sort of limit!"
Miu seemed happy with my words because after I spoke, she was silent. Her eyes never left where I was stationed on my bed. It was more than obvious that she was waiting for me to speak. I let out a small sigh before starting.
"You're right Miu..." I muttered as my gaze hid the floor, "I am the reason everyone who was supposed to be dead is alive now..."
"You say that, but you need to fuckin' tell me why," Miu replied.
"I'm getting to that, Miu," I told her in response, "you have to be patient because this is a lot."
"Tch... fine," Miu murmured in response.
"So in the beginning, when Rantaro was dead, I was devastated, and you knew that," I explained, "I cried over his body, trying to mourn over the loss of a friend... but during the first trial... Rantaro came back, and I was shocked, so when you gave us the device after the trial, we were using it to find out what happened and not have the mastermind listen in."
"I think that checks out," Miu laughed, "I mean I did give you that device. So I'm guessing you did find something out, and that's how you're involved, right?"
"Well, partially," I replied with a sigh, "after you gave me the device, Rantaro and I went to the library to try and find some information. That being said, we found a book with no cover. That said book held some rare abilities that were possessed by few people. One of those abilities was called, "Tears of Life". This ability gives someone the ability to bring any intact person back to life through their tears. And once every century, one person has this ability."
"I think I know where this is going," Miu stated, "like I said, I'm not a fuckin' idiot. In any case, you have this ability? How the hell did you prove that it worked?"
"First of all, yes I do have that ability..." I muttered, "I don't know how, but I didn't believe that I had it at first, so Rantaro gave himself a paper cut and had me cry on it. It healed, so that's my proof. It was me that was bringing everyone who was dead back to life, and I know it's hard to believe, but it's true."
"I mean, I'm alive and here, so I can't say it's not true," Miu replied, "but how the hell was Ryoma brought back!? He was a pile of bones! He was fuckin' fish shit!"
"Well..." I trailed off nervously, "that was a gamble... Rantaro and I did the ritual to bring Ryoma back, but we added my tears to the mix. I didn't know if it would work at the time, but it somehow did. Maybe that, or this is just some sort of plot hole..."
"That still doesn't make any fuckin' sense..." Miu muttered, "that was a wax effigy! There was no flesh on that thing!"
"I know that," I replied, "I know it's hard to grasp, but it's true."
"I can accept that what you're saying is true, considering the fuckin' evidence," Miu explained with a scoff, "but what the hell wasn't adding up?"
"The thing that wasn't adding up..." I muttered, "the thing is, I never cried on you when we found you dead... I don't know how you are alive again when I didn't do anything."
That fact was true. I didn't do anything. I wanted to find a point in time where I could try and do something, but before I could, something happened. I could feel my heart rate start to pick up as I thought of the worst that could happen.
'I'm so screwed...' I thought, 'I really am screwed...'
Considering what has happened thus far, I knew for the most part that I *had* the advantage of this terrible situation. It was as if after awhile of thinking that I could manage to keep this whole thing from the mastermind, but sadly only one move could cause the tables to turn. Instead of the odds being with me, they were now against me.
Ever since I found out of my ability, I knew death would be a possibility if the mastermind found out. I never thought that it would happen now... after I did so much. I could feel my breathing start to go ragged as I could feel the thoughts of my own death entering my head. I knew I was suicidal before, but now I was terrified. I didn't know what was going to happen, and my confidence was shattering from fear of death.
"Hey, hey, (y/n), calm the fuck down!" Miu exclaimed, "why did you go silent? Why is your breathing accelerating? Why do you look so scared?"
Miu's voice seemed to sound more like static as I continued to freak out. I didn't want to break down like this in front of anyone, and Miu was defiantly someone I didn't want to show this side of me to. Maybe all of the pressure I had to keep inside was just coming out as if it were a bomb waiting to go off. I tried to stay confident, and I didn't want Rantaro to see me like this either.
"What the hell (y/n)!?" Miu shouted, "fuckin' answer me!"
I could feel two hands clasp around my shoulders tightly, and after that point, my upper half was moving forward and backwards as a repetitive motion. Miu was shaking me, trying to get my attention. That seemed to snap me back into reality, her words seeming more concerned that she would usually let on.
"I-I'm screwed..." I muttered, "I'm going to die... the mastermind is going to kill me. I'm pretty sure the mastermind found out, and that might be how you're alive now..."
"For someone with a life saving ability, you really are a pussy, aren't you?" Miu asked, "you should be more confident like me!"
"It's hard to do that when I know I dug my own grave..." I muttered.
Miu was silent for a moment after that. She had a puzzled look on her face as if she was thinking about what to say next. I never saw her make an expression like that. It was like she was genuinely trying to think of what to say next.
"You know, not many of us was able to catch the mastermind off guard," Miu explained, "you say you dug your own grave, but you were taking a big ass gamble to keep everyone safe. And you should know thats an amazing feat to be commented on by your glamorous girl genius. I know one thing. You have many people who would stick their neck out for you, and I know that I would do the same. Whether you like it or not, your ability fuckin' saved my skin, so I owe you."
I could feel my gaze hit the floor again. In all actuality, I knew that Miu was right. Considering that I've saved many people, I knew that they would try and give their lives to help me out. Rantaro, Kirumi, Angie, Ryoma, and Miu. I didn't want that. I didn't want anyone to give their lives to save mine.
"Miu, listen..." I muttered, "I don't want you to owe me anything. I don't want anyone to owe me anything. I did this because I wanted to help everyone. I don't want anyone to feel in debt to me... all I ask is that you keep this a secret."
"Alright, fine," Miu replied, "I'm too beautiful to be in debt to you anyway."
"Gee, thanks..." I muttered with an annoyed expression, "you really know how to make me feel better..."
"Ah-hahaha!" Miu laughed, "I know! I think this is enough of a chat for today! Tomorrow, we need to talk about that psycho. Whenever we have free time, expect a visit from the beautiful girl genius, Miu Iruma!"
After the words came flooding out of her mouth, Miu quickly got up and left the room, leaving me in awe. I had no idea how to process what just happened. Usually I was the serious one, but I found myself feeling more mentally drained than I was before.
'Miu defiantly has a very interesting way of showing she cares...' I thought.
I could feel my hands traveling to my temples, my hands rubbing them as I let out a sigh. This had to be the first time in awhile that I panicked in front of someone other than Rantaro.
My free time was spent with Miu, and I felt like I did get closer to her. I felt like I understood her a bit more. That still didn't help the feeling of dread I felt. In any case though, I knew that I had to tread more carefully now. I had no idea what the mastermind knew about the situation, but it was a recipe for trouble...
