Chapter 4 Part 4: The Ultimate Detective Lab

Your POV:

We spent some time in Tsumugi's Ultimate Lab, and we even had some drinks while we were there, considering that one of the sets in her Lab was a bar set with real drinks.
My group now was exiting her lab because we had more to discover on the fifth floor. I wandered around with my group for awhile on the floor, trying to find another room.
I noticed Maki right next to the staircase that led to the fourth floor. She was next to a couple of pillars. One of these pillars had an angel version of Monokuma, and the other one was a demon version of him. I noticed them when I first came on this floor, however Maki was starting at them with a straight look on her face. That made it obvious to me that Maki just got here.
She seemed to notice me when I walked next to her. I stared up at the statues as well. They were huge. They did make it seem like Monokuma was a god, and in a way... what he said in the beginning... when we first met him.

I am the god of this new world...

I felt like what I was staring at held the meaning to that line. Monokuma was arrogant enough to think that he could be god of a new world, so he used the top floor on this building to show that he was serious about that like.
It reminded me of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood where the character known as Father wanted to be a god. He was arrogant and cocky. He feels like people like us are lower life forms, so he doesn't care if they die. In a sense, Monokuma was like that, putting all of us in this killing game.
He used motives to try and get us to kill each other, and some people throw away reason. Some people have tried to kill, and if I hadn't stepped in, they'd be forever dead.
Monokuma really was like this arrogant character from the.anime...and just like in the anime's story, Monokuma was the villain, and the seventeen of us had to stop that bear.
"Hey, (y/n)," Maki told me, "you seem lost in thought..."
Instantly, I stared up in response to what Maki said. I was deep in thought, but she snapped me out of it.
"I was staring at the statues up there," I explained, "they are so big, and I feel like I can partially explain the reason that they are there..."
"That's amazing..." Maki muttered, "there's an angel statue and a demon statue next to the stairs. Don't chapels usually have those?"
"Yeah..." I replied, "I noticed that too..."
It defiantly felt like there was no god here, but in the same way, there is a god. Monokuma obviously had a dark sense of humor.
"Just looking at the school building from the courtyard, the fifth floor didn't look this big..." Maki explained, "did they recently expand it...just for us?"
"I'm not sure," I replied, "it seems that way..."
It did seem that way. The thing that puzzled me was the fact that the school looked smaller from the courtyard. The inside of the school seemed to be bigger, and each floor seemed to be like another world.
I noticed something to the right of Maki. It looked like another door. In curiosity, I walked up to the door. It seemed to match the floor we were in. The door seemed to almost be camouflaged into the wall.
'What is this door...?" I thought.
I placed my hand onto the door handle. I noticed that the other people in my group were watching me. I tried to open the door, but all I heard was a clicking sound every time I tugged at the door. It was obviously locked.
"So this door is locked..." I muttered, "but I still can't help but wonder what's on the other side."
I turned behind me to see Rantaro. He seemed to be looking at the door as well. He had a certain look on his face. It seemed he deep in thought as he stared at the door.
"Hey Rantaro..." I muttered, "I'm sure we'll find out what that door goes to in the future."
Rantaro looked down at me in response to what I said. He smiled kindly at me as he took my hand into his.
"Alright," he told me, "we will make sure to see what that door unlocks in the future."
I smiled lightly at him. I hugged him lightly, and I closed my eyes from his warmth. He hugged me back and started to run his hands through my hair.
"We have more investigating to do..." I told him, "we should probably continue, before the others drag us away from each other."
Rantaro chuckled lightly in response. Suddenly, I felt his arm go around my waist and another arm hook around my legs. I felt a gush of air as I was lifted off the ground.
"I won't let them drag you away from me," Rantaro told me, "so I'm just going to carry you with me, so that doesn't happen."
I blushed lightly when he said that. I clutched the fabric on his shirt as he carried me with him to the others.
Everyone aside from Maki and Kirumi seemed to gush at this display. I blushed from the embarrassment of people freaking out then seeing us together. It was like we were the pair of the century.
"I feel so embarrassed..." I muttered.
"You shouldn't be," Rantaro replied, "they just love us being together, and you and I love being together."
I nodded nervously in response to that. I still wasn't used to this kind of attention. I wasn't used to people cheering for my happiness. I wasn't used to being in a relationship with someone who wants to build me up. I loved the way Rantaro would always be there for me. I still was getting used to that fact.
"I'm sorry," I said nervously, "I'm still getting used to being in a relationship... I'm sorry if it seems like I'm too nervous..."
"It's okay," Rantaro responded with a smile, "let's check out that room over there."
When Rantaro mentioned another room, my eyes instantly looked around the fifth floor to see if I could spot the room Rantaro wanted to check out. I searched for about a minute before seeing a door that wasn't like the door to Tsumugi's lab or the door that couldn't be opened.
This door had a white doorframe, and the door itself was a dark chestnut brown. It seemed to be a type of door that would lead to an office, or a records room.
This had to be some sort of Ultimate Lab, but I wondered who's it was. I knew we discovered the Ultimate Labs of Kaede, Miu, Kirumi, Gonta, Ryoma, Himiko, Tenko, Angie, Kiyo, Maki, Tsumugi, and myself. This meant that the people left who didn't find their labs were Shuichi, Keebo, Kaito, Rantaro, and Kokichi. This door had to be one of these people's lab.
"This has to be an Ultimate Lab..." I muttered, "we should go in to find out who this lab belongs to."
"Yeah... we should check it out..." Shuichi muttered.
"Then let's go in!" Kaede exclaimed happily.
With that, Shuichi opened the door to the Unknown Ultimate Research Lab. In the center of the lab, there was a fireplace with a nice warm fire crackling as it burned up the wood that was causing it to ignite.
There were fancy looking couches near the fireplace. These couches seemed to fit two or three people each, and there was only two of them, so the accurate number would be four to six people. There was a rocking chair in the room as well as a table with cloth on it. It looked like a dinner table. I wondered why there was a dinner table in this lab, but I wasn't the one behind the look of this lab. There were also bookshelves in the room, containing different types of books, but the only issue was that I didn't know what they were about.
There was a desk with different types of beakers used for chemistry. There were also many bottles of unknown liquids as well. I had an idea on who this lab belonged to by now.
This had to be the Ultimate Detective Lab. For the other talents of the ones who didn't find their Lab's yet, this room's set up didn't match up with any other talent besides Shuichi's.
"What...? Is this...?" Shuichi asked nervously.
"I think this is your research lab, Shuichi," I replied, "I mean the set up of this lab seems perfect for a detective."
"We should see what's in here!" Kaede exclaimed, "I'm so happy that you finally found your lab, Shuichi.
"Please calm down, Kaede," Kirumi told her, "I am getting a bad feeling about this place..."
"I feel it too," Maki replied, "in any case, we should still look around."
"I agree," Rantaro replied as he held me closer to him, causing a light blush to form on my face.
I looked over to a bookcase first. There were some kind of books on the shelves. I needed to find out what they're about. I was curious. If this was really in fact the Ultimate Detective Lab, then those books had to be files for Murders, or different crimes.
"Rantaro, lets take a look at the bookshelves first. I want to see what type of books are on there," I explained.
"Alright, (y/n)," Rantaro replied, "let's see what these books are about."
Rantaro walked me up to one of the bookcases. The contents of the bookshelf matched my prediction. These were files that were lined up on each shelf of the bookcase. There seemed to be fifty of them on one bookshelf.
One thought crossed my mind as I looked through the file names on the books. I was wondering what these files were for. Were they murder cases, or were they about tracking thieves? I honestly had no idea what they could be for.
Not saying a word, I took a file off of the shelf, and I started to flip through the pages. What I saw was enough of a shock to cause me to drop the book.
"(y/n), are you okay?" Rantaro asked me, noting how I dropped the book.
"That file... it contained images of a murder scene..." I muttered, "there were tricks listed that the culprit used..."
Rantaro seemed to give me a concerned look in response to what I said. I never expected to see gruesome images like that...
Seeing the file however cleared up my curiosity on what was in those files. It had to be murder cases... it was shocking to me on how detectives could handle these types of cases... I was no detective... I may have helped out in trials, but that's because I had to help. There was no way I could get used to what I was seeing. There was no way...
I looked down slightly as I thought about all of the times I had to investigate someone's murder. I'd always bring someone back, but I could never get past the thought of anyone actually dying.
"I can never get used to something like this, Rantaro..." I muttered, "never ever..."
Rantaro hugged me closer to him when he heard me say that. He let out a small sigh as he took his hand away from my legs, holding me up to him by cradling my waist with his arms. He ran his hand through my hair as he tried to calm me down.
"No one can get used to this..." Rantaro told me, "but no matter what, we will get out of here, and we will make sure everyone lives to be able to escape. I swear on it..."
I smiled lightly at Rantaro in response to that. I knew he would do all that he could to keep his promise, and I was happy that he would keep his promise.
"Alright..." I told him with a smile, "I'll make sure you help you, so we can achieve that outcome."
"You're too sweet, (y/n)," Rantaro laughed.
"The same goes for you," I replied.
With new determination in my eyes, I decided to see if these cases are similar. I started skimming through the other books on the shelves to find out if they were similar. In short... yes they were. These files showed similar case images of a murder crime scene. Each file also listed what tricks the culprit used to get away with it. I knew these were listed because detectives often had to figure out who the culprit was or could be.
"These are files containing all the tricks used for murders," Maki explained.
"You are completely right about that, Maki," Rantaro told her, "when (y/n) looked at the first file she picked up, she dropped the book in shock."
"Did the incident you guys looked at happen recently?" Maki asked.
"I'm no detective," I said with a nervous look on my face, "all I can say is that there was no exact date on the file. There were pictures of the crime scene though."
"I feel like this lab would be a good guideline for anyone who wants to commit murder," Maki explained, "there are plenty of tricks in these case files that someone can mimic. However, I don't think anyone would use something from files that can be accessed by everyone."
Maki seemed to put a tiny bit of light on the situation. Anyone could access these file books, so if someone used any trick in any of these books, we could figure it out easily.
There was one contradiction I had with that thought however. The culprit could just steal the book they used for the crime, and try and put another book on the shelf. Even if it wasn't a file book, if it looked the same as the file book, we'd be none the wiser in this case.
Shuichi walked over to us as Maki took a random case file off the shelf and started flipping through it. She seemed both shocked and confused when doing so.
"Huh? This file doesn't have any photographs. It's all just draw illustrations, but..." Maki explained.
    "Illustrations?" Shuichi asked in confusion.
Maki seemed to be pulling files off of the shelves, and looking through them. I was wondering what she was doing. She was observing something about the files, but what? It had to be something to do with the strange illustrations in some of the file books. Maki soon had a pretty good answer for this matter.
"The newer files have photographs, but the older ones have illustrations?" Maki asked as more of a question.
"But why?" Shuichi asked, "are the old ones fake?"
Shuichi seemed to look through some files with a puzzled look on my face. From what I gathered, a select amount was only illustrations.
I knew I had to look elsewhere too. There was something else in this lab that I haven't seen yet. I had many questions about the files on the bookshelves, but there was something else that was important to check out.
My eyes scanned the room, viewing the couches, the fireplace, the table, the rocking chair, and the desk. I scanned the shelf behind the desk.
"Hey, Rantaro?" I asked, "can you take me to that shelf behind the desk?"
"Yeah, sure," Rantaro replied with a smile on his face.
Rantaro walked over to the shelf that I requested to be taken too. On closer inspection, the shelf seemed to be filled with different bottles with different colors of liquids on the inside of each bottle.
I gaze at the bottles with a small frown on my face. There were labels on the front of some of the bottles. Strike-9, Night's Hate, Arsenic...
My eyes widened when I realized what they were...
"It looks like...poison," Maki stated.
She was right, and I realized it as she said that line. This was a shelf full of different types of poisons. They gave different symptoms as well as different times for the poison to take effect to kill the person. Some would kill fast, but others took time.
This would be very alarming if someone tried to poison someone with anything in this lab. It made me anxious as I stared at the poisons in the shelf. I wanted to get rid of them, but I'm sure Monokuma would restock the whole supply.
"I knew you'd say that..." I told Maki, "with the names in mind, they are poison..."
"That's right," Maki said, "there's no way that can be normal medicine in the Ultimate Detective's Lab..."
Maki opened the glass covering that was keeping the bottles of poison from being handled by anyone. Her eyes started peering at the bottles, investigating some. I looked over at the bottles too, and I noticed even more names, such as Night Shade, Cyanide, and many others. Those were poison names, so all of these bottles were poison.
"With the names on these bottles, I can conclude that they are poison," Maki told me.
"I defiantly agree with that," Rantaro replied, "I just wonder if there are antidotes with those poisons."
I looked at Rantaro with shock on my features. He made some comments that are able to strike a cord in anyone who's good with observation. With something deadly, there must also be an antidote. There had to be antidotes to these poisons. The problem was that I didn't know where they could be. They must've been hidden in the shelves along with the poison. That was the only place that the antidotes could be. I wanted to see if I could find them, but I realized that time was at stake.
Maki and Shuichi were talking about the poison matter. Maki didn't want anyone to get their hands on the poison. The thing that shocked me was the fact that there were so many in there. This lab definitely felt more like a lab for criminals.
There was a fine line between a detective and a criminal. Detectives could find out about tricks the culprit could use.
With that, we investigated all of the areas that concerned me. This was the last of the labs on the fifth floor, so we'd be going to find the other area that needed to be unlocked.
We left the lab with the dread over our heads that someone could defiantly use poison to kill someone... Despite that, we had to keep investigating,

Hey guys! I have another chapter! It's the detective lab this time. I still need chapter four predictions as well!
Another thing! I start working again on Sunday, so I'm going to be a little more busy. I'll try my best to update once a week, but things may vary depending on how busy I am.
