Chapter 4 Part 28: Investigating the Program
Your POV:
While working together with Shuichi, Rantaro, and Kokichi, we were all able to gather some much needed information about this case so far. We were able to get information on the Monokuma File. We also were able to investigate Miu's body after reading the Monokuma File. Finally, we investigated a small bottle of poison that was on Kokichi's seat, as well as Kaito's account for what happened.
What happened with Kaito wasn't the only strange thing that happened. I realized that I had information that could be used for later reference. I knew very well that Rantaro and Tsumugi would know what I was talking about, because they too were in the dining room when that happened. At first, I thought it was just a figment of my imagination, but now...with all of the weird things that were happening, I didn't think that it was a figment of my imagination anymore.
"I know what we need to investigate next," I explained, "it was something strange that happened in the dining room while Tsumugi, Rantaro, and I were investigating."
I noticed as I said that, Tsumugi who was still in the computer room seemed to perk up at the mention of her name. She looked over in my direction before walking over to the group I was a part of during this whole investigation.
"I know that my name was mentioned..." Tsumugi muttered, "I'll be honest. I had a bad feeling...ever since (y/n) and I saw Miu from the dining room window."
"You guys thought you saw Miu...?" Kokichi asked in response.
"Kokichi, it's not a we *thought* we saw Miu," I muttered, "it's, we *saw* Miu. Tsumugi and I both saw her outside of the dining room window. We both are witnesses to this words. We even told Shuichi and Kaede about what we saw."
"That is true," Tsumugi replied, "we did tell Shuichi and Kaede."
My mind wandered back on what happened when we told Shuichi and Kaede. How Tsumugi explained there was a small window in the dining room. How I added to that, telling everyone that we saw Miu outside of the window, running past it with haste.
"So you guys did see Miu then," Kokichi said with a smile.
"I thought that I must've been mistaken, since she should've been by the chapel—" Tsumugi explained before...
"You're only saying you were *mistaken* so you don't have to feel as guilty," Kokichi replied.
"W-What are you talking about...?" I asked, "why are you acting this way, Kokichi?"
"If you two were so positive that it was Miu out there, then why didn't you do anything?" Kokichi asked, "as my beloved said before, you guys are a witness to each other's words, so if both of you saw it, there shouldn't have been any doubt. You guys could've done something about this, but now it's too late~nee-heehee! You both could've prevented her death, y'know?"
"Kokichi, why don't you shut your mouth because you don't even know the full story," Rantaro told him with an angry tone, "you obviously don't get it... do you?"
My eyes widened in response to the words that came out of Rantaro's mouth. I looked over at him, my mouth hanging slightly open from the slight shock. Rantaro's eyes were narrowed slightly, a glare replacing his calm expression that get usually had. I could tell that Rantaro was genuinely upset with what Kokichi was saying. Kokichi was saying that Tsumugi and I could've done something, but we didn't... and Rantaro probably wanted to stop this from getting worse.
"When (y/n) saw Miu outside of the dining room window, she wanted to leave the room to see what was going on," Rantaro explained, "you of all people should know that she cares too much to let anything happen. She would've gone to see what happened, but I stopped her. I didn't want her to get hurt, so if you want to blame anyone for not checking on Miu, blame me."
Kokichi was silent after that. Looking towards him, his expression changed, no longer being the mischievous smile he had. His lips were pursed in a straight line, showing a seemingly neutral expression with silence.
"Ahem..." Shuichi said, obviously trying to get rid of the tension between Rantaro and Kokichi, "Kokichi, listen. What you said was just a speculation. You can't judge in hindsight. Rantaro only wanted to protect (y/n) because of these unknown circumstances that were happening."
"I guess you're right, Shuichi," Kokichi replied, going back to his carefree nature, "we went a little bit off topic there. Anyway, I want to ask you guys something... What happened after all of that stuff happened. Y'know, after my beloved (y/n) and Tsumugi saw Miu?"
"About ten minutes after that point, we decided to tell Shuichi and Kaede..." Tsumugi explained, "but (y/n) already mentioned that part, so I'll explain what happened after."
My mind decided to wander to after we told Shuichi and Kaede what happened. The loud noise we heard. The loud noise that most likely came from outside... how shocked we were about it. I knew that was what Tsumugi was trying to explain.
"We heard a loud noise and rushed out into the entrance hall..." Tsumugi explained.
That was when Tsumugi explained that we heard Keebo's voice when we were in the entrance hall. I knew she was telling the truth on that because I was there with her. Rantaro, Shuichi, and Kaede as well. We were all witnesses to what happened, and that much was true.
In response to Tsumugi's explanation, Kokichi had a shocked look on his face, sweat rolling down his face. He looked genuinely shocked about it. I actually wondered why he looked so shocked about it. I didn't know if it was possible for Kokichi to be able to hear the noise from the salon, but I could be wrong.
"Kee-boy's voice, huh?" Kokichi asked with a shocked look, "wasn't he at the chapel?"
"He was, but all of us were positive it was his voice," Shuichi replied, "we heard Keebo from the entrance hall when he *should* have been at the chapel."
"Whaaat?" Kokichi asked with a pouty expression, "that's weird, cuz you shouldn't be able to hear anything between the chapel and mansion. Even Miu said that."
I knew Kokichi was right about that fact. Looking back on when we passed the map loading point, Miu did explain that we couldn't hear anything while we were in the map loading point. Sound couldn't pass through.
"Sound shouldn't have reached the map loading point, but somehow it did," Rantaro mused, "I wonder how that was able to happen. I wonder how we were able to hear Keebo's voice when he was defiantly at the chapel..."
"Maybe..." Kokichi trailed off with a mischievous smile, "someone's lying."
"I don't think anyone is lying..." I replied nervously, "and Kokichi...I have been meaning to ask this, but were you able to hear the crashing sound? We're you able to hear Keebo's voice?"
"Hm...I'm not sure, my beloved (y/n)," Kokichi replied with a smile, "I must've not noticed cuz I was too busy searching."
"You're lying right to their faces!" I heard Kaito shout.
Kaito seemed to be very interested at the conversation we were having, Kokichi trying to get on Kaito's nerves by accusing him of liking him. I couldn't help but wonder. When Kaito mentioned that Kokichi was lying, I felt like Kaito was right. It was weird for Kokichi not to be able to hear the same noise we did. With how loud the noise was, Kokichi should've been able to hear it.
Soon enough, the conversation ended, and there was information that we all had now. The events that happened while we were investigating were important evidence that needed to be brought up later. Seeing Miu outside of the mansion... the loud noise. All of it was important. It was an account of three people, those people being Tsumugi, Rantaro, and myself.
As explained before, we were all witnesses to what happened. If there was any error on any of our parts, I knew that someone would set the facts straight. For now, I needed to stockpile the information I had in order to use it later. I felt like this would be a key thing in what happened to Miu.

The investigation was starting to go more smoothly. I noticed Maki was working on a computer, her hand moving the mouse rapidly. I honestly wanted to see what it was about. Shuichi recommended that we talk to Maki to get information from those in the chapel. Kirumi was watching the screen as Maki worked, looking at information on the screen.
It was honestly a shock to see Maki working on a computer. I honestly had no idea that Maki was able to do that. It actually turned out that Maki never used the program on screen before. She expressed that Kirumi was watching the screen to see what came up. It would be very hard to understand unless there was an expert involved. I assumed that Kirumi at least saw stuff like this.
Maki soon explained that there was a file with all of the features of the Virtual World, and Kokichi seemed very curious about it. Maki didn't want to tell Kokichi, so she turned to Shuichi, Rantaro, and I as she spoke. She revealed that the Killing Game Simulator had a program called "The Neo World Program" as its base. I only saw that name when we logged in to the Virtual World.
I knew I had suspicions earlier about what this world was all about... but those suspicions would soon be answered. Maki explained that our avatars couldn't get hurt, as well as the fact that our five senses were connected. The thing that put a shocked look on my face was the fact that any damage inflicted would transfer over to our real bodies... When Maki said that, I could feel myself realize what that meant. Maki then made sure we knew by telling us that if we suffered a fatal injury in that world, our real body would die from shock...
My mind was wandering as I could feel myself realize that my suspicions were correct. Why didn't Miu tell us such an important detail? Why was it never mentioned. I wasn't the only one who was confused on that fact. Other than that though...the Virtual World was the same as the real world, including physics. Warps didn't exist, so my mind started to wander again on the strange occurrences. The only way we could move around was through our avatar.
It was apparent that was the only information in the file on the Killing Game Simulator. Maki even said so herself. I knew very well that the information was very helpful, and I even conveyed that to Maki. Rantaro and Shuichi seemed to agree as well. In any case, this information was needed for when I got alone time with Miu. Miu never told us that we could die from shock in the Virtual World. I needed to ask her about that once I would be able to bring her back. In the meantime, this information was just going to be on the back burner of my brain.
•Truth Bullet Added: Killing Game Simulator•
Kokichi seemed to ask Maki what was in the text file. Following after that, he told Maki that he wasn't doubting her, but it could've been rewritten. There wouldn't even be a way to check it unless we had an expert, but that expert was dead right now. That was when Monotaro piped up, saying that this was a job for him. I had a slightly deadpanned look on my face as this happened, and I couldn't help but make that expression.
Everyone else seemed to be slightly confused when this happened as well, including Monophanie. Maki made it very clear that she didn't want the red cub to get in the way, but Monotaro insisted that he wanted to help with the investigation. He wanted to help with the investigation, he was begging to help with the investigation. He explained that since he forgot he was bad with computers, he was now good with computers somehow. The logic behind that didn't make any sense, and Maki and Rantaro both voiced that.
The pink bear was trying to stop her brother, telling him that it wasn't allowed for mascots to help with the investigation, but he didn't care about that. He wanted to help everyone, and it sounded like he was telling the truth. Apparently, he wanted to avenge Miu, who he called his mother. Soon, Monophanie and Monotaro got into a skirmish about what was happening. After the fight happened, the pink bear was crying and saying goodbye to the red bear, telling that she had someone to protect. She she alone said the phrase that was normally said before any of the Monokubs left. The other Monokubs were gazing in disapproval as they too followed the pink bear.
This left Monotaro with the rest of us, and I didn't know how to feel about that. If he was going to actually help, maybe it would be very nice. Maki seemed to be okay with the red bear helping us out. Shuichi was slightly nervous about this which I understood. I was too. Monotaro had a lot of enthusiasm to avenge Miu's death, and Kokichi decided to make that a big deal. Kokichi was crying about how Monotaro was doing his best for his dead mommy.
Kokichi was always so over dramatic at times, but that couldn't be helped. I told Monotaro to go ahead with what he was going to do. It was then that the bear explained that he was going to analyze the information on the computer. I wondered how he was going to go about getting the information.
Monotaro had an angry look on his face as his hands started moving across the keyboard with fast speeds and precision. The force he used on the keyboard was intense as he let out a scream. He was telling about how the computer was no match for his tiny hands. The speed Monotaro was working on was so intense that it was creating fire. Kokichi seemed to exclaim that fact, the heat from the fire brushing over my face, causing it to turn a bit red.
Soon enough, the fire went away, as the red bear was staring at the computer. He mentioned that he already analyzed a few things and it shocked me because it was so fast. Monotaro soon explained that the text file was consistent with the original. In other words, the program wasn't altered in any way. Monotaro also told us that he found something else.
I looked at the screen to see what the red bear was talking about. When I saw it, I knew exactly what I was looking at. Maki, Rantaro, and Kirumi were both looking at the screen as well, most certainly taking in the information it showed. The computer screen showed the records of when someone logged in or out of the Virtual World.
As I was looking at the screen, Monotaro explained that the information on the screen wasn't altered in any way, so this information was accurate. Shuichi asked Monotaro to show this information to him and he agreed. I was continuing to read the names on the screen as the others were doing the same. I apparently was in the list of the first group of people to log in, that time being at 23:02. Maki was the next person to log in, arriving at 23:03. Kokichi and Gonta logged in exactly a minute after Maki did, at 23:04. Lastly, Miu was the last one to log in, coming two minutes later at 23:06.
As for the log out times, it went in this order. Kaito, K1-B0, Kirumi, Kaede, Ryoma, Angie, Tenko, Himiko, Maki, Gonta, Tsumugi, Rantaro, Shuichi, (y/n), and Kokichi. Kaito was logged out over an hour before the rest of us were needing to log out. It was closer to two hours than it was to one hour, and I could tell that Kaito was telling the truth if this information was accurate.
Aside from Miu, everyone was able log in and out at least once. Rantaro and Maki seemed to notice this fact too, Kirumi nodding lightly in response to that. No one secretly logged out or logged back in from the records. That much was obvious.
My concern was going back to Kaito. I knew for a fact that he was telling the truth about logging out ahead of us... but my mind was telling me that it couldn't be him. I had to keep these records in my mind until I would be able to bring Miu back. I at least needed to have the order of names in my head.
•Truth Bullet Added: Login/Logout Record•
After I was able to cement the information I just received, Monotaro said he noticed something else in the program. That's when it was explained that there were some parts of the program that were rewritten. Shuichi was confused when that was said, and so was I. On the other hand, I wasn't that surprised considering Miu was a computer expert. Kokichi mentioned this as well, soon asking what programs were altered. Monotaro said that it was going to take some time to get that information.
In other words, we would have to wait awhile until we could get that information. That is what was concerning to me. Kokichi was saying as long as it was revealed by the time the class trial started, we could avenge Miu. Kokichi just said what he pleased, and it was irritating. In any case though, Monotaro would keep analyzing the program, so we needed to be on standby for that.
Maki was mentioning how much more reliable Monotaro was than him, but Kokichi was silent. I knew the next course of action would be to find out what happened at the chapel. We were getting a lot of information based on the Mansion as well as the computer program, but what about the people in the chapel? I knew the group of people at the chapel were Himiko, Tenko, Angie, Kirumi, Maki, Keebo, Ryoma, and the recently deceased Miu.
I told everyone that we should try to get information on what happened in the chapel, and they seemed to agree. There were many possible people to ask, but Shuichi seemed to walk over to Himiko, who was shaking like a leaf, nervously muttering to herself that it was surprising that Miu died.
Himiko explained that her avatar wasn't moving, as well as the fact that her group all saw that Miu's avatar wasn't moving. I wanted to know more of what happened, so I asked Himiko to explain. In response to my question, Himiko started explaining everything.
Apparently, they were all searching for the outside world, including Miu. Miu apparently volunteered to look outside of the chapel, so she wasn't with the rest of the group. Just the phrase in hearing that Miu volunteered... it was suspicious. According to Himiko, they searched, but they couldn't find anything. As soon as they started getting tired, a loud noise was heard from outside of the chapel. That must've been the sound my group heard while we were searching the mansion.
Himiko explained that something must've hit the chapel wall very hard. It was apparently felt from the inside of the chapel. I felt like I was starting to get what that sound was as soon as Himiko explained what happened when they ran outside. They saw Miu's avatar on the side of the chapel, but it wasn't moving.
That was when they decided that they needed to log out to check Miu's body. Then from there, things that happened on our account were explained. The bridge being missing. Then they saw us, and we found the bridge in order to log out. In all honesty these were things we needed information on. Shuichi, Rantaro, and I thanked Himiko for her words, and Tenko started to praise the magic girl.
Kokichi mentioned how important that testimony was. I knew that was the truth as well. The group that investigated the chapel wasn't able to cross the river, so there was no way they were able to get to the mansion. This made seeing Miu more and more confusing to me. I had no idea how she was able to get to the mansion if the bridge was gone. Kokichi was spitting these facts out as well, saying that this made it easier to see who could have been in contact with Miu.
•Truth Bullet Added: Events At The Chapel•
It seemed that this was all that we could investigate in the computer room for the time being. Monotaro was still trying to analyze the computer program to see what was altered on the program. We would have to wait awhile to see what was altered, so I was at a standstill on what to investigate next.
"Are you guys done investigating the crime scene?" Kokichi asked with a childish smile, "so, do you know who the culprit is yet?"
"It's bold of you to assume that this is the crime scene," Rantaro mused, "for all we know, this might not be the scene of the crime."
I could feel my eyes widen slightly in response to that. I knew Rantaro was onto something. If fatal injuries from the Virtual World transferred over to the real world, it's very much possible that the crime scene could be in the Virtual World itself.
"Rantaro is defiantly right in what he said..." I muttered, "it's possible that the crime scene is in the Virtual World, not here."
"...The Virtual World," Kokichi said, "we should go there again."
I knew Kokichi was right as he said those words. Shuichi was confused, but nonetheless I knew we had to go back to investigate Miu's avatar. Kaito told us that he'd be coming to. He wanted to have a chance at clearing his name, and it was settled that he was going. I knew Rantaro, Kokichi, and Shuichi were going as well. It seemed that mostly everyone was onboard with going. Kirumi, Maki, and Ryoma wanted to stay behind to monitor the analyzation of the program. Gonta wanted to investigate the computer room for longer, so he wasn't going either.
Kokichi soon told us that he was going to stay as well to keep an eye on Maki. He called her deceitful, and Maki didn't seem to like that. It was apparent on what was going to happen. We had to hurry to the Virtual World to investigate Miu's avatar and the world itself. We were told to hurry. Kokichi mentioned that he'd leave it to us, and seemed to believe that Shuichi, Kaede, and I were the only ones that could solve the case.
Soon after that, we all sat in our respective seats. Everyone who was going to the Virtual World anyway. Rantaro was next to me as everyone who had their devices unplugged were plugging them back in. Mine was still plugged in, and I could feel myself grow nervous as I prepared to place the visor on my head. Kaito was questioning the cord set up. I knew it was red cord in the right, and the blue cord on the left.
Everyone had muffled voices as I prepared myself for what I was about to see in the Virtual World. Soon enough, everyone placed their visors on their heads, me doing the same. After that point, the same thing happened. The glowing blue code flashing throughout my eyes. The "Welcome to the Neo World Program..." Finally... I appeared in my avatar, a glowing blue circle making me appear in the salon. I was in the Virtual World again... to investigate the world to see if anything would help the case... I needed to save Miu... I needed to find out what happened.
Hello all! It's Friday, and I'm here with another update! A lot has happened this week in accordance to the rude comments that started popping up, but I'm still here, and I'm not going to stop writing this!
I know chapter four has been very long in terms of the story, and that was why I was trying to condense the rest of the investigation for the computer room anyway, but I have a plan for what's going to happen next. Please stay in tune for that. I know I'm excited for it, and I hope you all are too!
A little word for you all as well. I actually decided to start writing a future chapter that's going to happen after chapter four, and as you all know, I was planning to do some of the Love Suite stuff for this story, and that's going to happen within the next few weeks! I can promise that!
In any case, though, I'll post the results for the Fanart competition soon. I want to see if I get any more art this week, and I've already gotten one piece. If there isn't any other Fanart, they will be the winner for the competition which includes the spoiler, art work, and their picture being put into the story with credit, of course.
That's all I have to say in the author notes portion of the update. I hope you all have an amazing weekend, and I'll see you guys next week with another update! Have fun, stay safe! Ciao- yuki_no_fuyu
