Chapter 3 Part 18: Tenko's Request

Your POV:

I knew what time it was. It was nighttime. The announcement came on as scheduled, making me instinctively look at the monitor to see what was going to happen next.
I was met with the same sight as I did the previous night. The Monokuma with patches of bald spots on his body was just staring into the monitor. He wasn't saying a word, looking terrified and shocked. It was the same sight I saw. It was so similar that I could defiantly laugh at the it.
I let out a sigh as the monitor turned off. I had to meet up with Maki and Shuichi for the nighttime training. It was a nightly thing we did.
A thought of realization entered my mind. The student council wouldn't allow people to wander around during the night. After all that's happened with me almost being killed, everyone probably saw the whole student council thing as null and void because it was Angie who tried to kill me.
There was one way to find out. I was also worried about Kaito since he didn't look so well at the mention of the ritual.
I might as well see what he thinks of it. That was my resolve. I had to see if Kaito was alright.
I slowly exited my dorm room to go to Kaito's room. I noticed Shuichi exit his dorm room too.
    "Hey Shuichi," I greeted.
Shuichi turned his head in shock of my voice. He must've not been expecting me to greet him so openly like that. It was expected because he was more of an introvert.
    "Hey, (y/n)," Shuichi replied.
I walked over to his dorm with a smile. The smile I had seemed to shock him. He looked very concerned about something. Was it Kaito, or me?
"Shuichi, are you alright?" I asked, "you seem to be shocked about something? Can you tell me what it is?"
Shuichi looked down in response to my question. It seemed like he didn't want to answer my question. Even if that was the case, he answered me.
"How are you so happy right now?" Shuichi asked, "you almost died today, and yet you're smiling..."
I looked to the side in response. Of course it was that. I should've known he'd ask something like that. He gave me his honesty though, so I should answer his question as well.
"Something good happened even though I was almost killed. The positives tend to outweigh the negatives, right?" I asked in response.
"What happened that was so positive?" Shuichi asked in response.
"Rantaro confessed his love to me, and I loved him. He saved my life, and we both confessed," I replied.
"I see," Shuichi replied, "so that's why he was saying someone he loved and cared about during the meeting earlier."
"Yeah, I've never seen him angry like that. He's already been through so much. He didn't want to lose anything more. Isn't that a just reason to get upset?" I asked.
"You did get upset when we thought Rantaro died... you even yelled at me, so in some way, I guess it's just..." Shuichi replied.
"I'm sorry about that," I said.
"It's alright," Shuichi replied, "now we should check on Kaito."
"Alright," I laughed.
Shuichi and I then went to Kaito's door. I had no idea how the curfew would affect us because we were doing this. I felt that we had to at least check on Kaito.
As we were about to ring the doorbell, the door opened. I was shocked as of why the door opened. Was Kaito coming out?
Someone then walked out of the door. I was shocked to see Maki there. She was in Kaito's room. I wondered why.
She was silently standing in front of us. It was classic for Maki to be silent at this point. She was always more reserved because of her true talent. It seemed like she didn't want anyone to get too close to her.
Shuichi seemed shocked to see Maki there. I guess he didn't expect Maki to come out of Kaito's door. Was she going to bring Kaito out with her, or was she just talking to him?
"Ah...Maki," Shuichi said in shock.
Maki stayed silent for a moment before giving Shuichi and I a deadly glare. It seemed like she was mad about something. This made me a little bit nervous.
Kaito soon stepped out of his dorm room, having a look of dread on his face. He really didn't look too well. I was wondering why he was acting like this.
"O-Oh, hey guys..." Kaito greeted nervously, "perfect timing."
I was wondering what he meant by that. Was he wanting to see us for something?
"I gotta apologize to you both, as well..." Kaito said nervously.
"...He told me he was going to skip today's training, too," Maki explained.
"So...he still doesn't feel well," Shuichi replied with a sigh.
"I guess that's what it means," I replied nervously.
"It's pathetic, but...I haven't been able to eat or sleep much since yesterday," Kaito explained, "I think I'll get better if... I just rest a little longer, y'know?"
This worried me a lot. Kaito hasn't been able to eat or sleep much. He must be hungry and tired. If his body isn't allowing him to do those vital things, he must be a bit sick.
"Yeah...sure, Kaito. Do what you have to do," Shuichi said with a smile.
I knew if I scolded him, it wouldn't be much use. I have to support him and help him through whatever he was facing.
"Please get better Kaito..." I said with a small smile, "we will be waiting for you to get better."
"We'd have to reschedule our training sessions either way, come to think of it..." Kaito explained, "the student council said being out after nighttime was prohibited, right? Even though the president almost killed someone?"
I sighed lightly. Everyone was still thinking of that. I guess it couldn't be helped. Of course everyone would be thinking of the situation where I almost got killed.
"Well..." I muttered, trying to figure out what I wanted to say.
"If you're feeling sick, that's one thing." Maki explained, "but I don't want you to change the training schedule. You don't...need to do that.  Not after what Angie tried to pull."
"R-Really? But—" Kaito tried to say as.
"I don't want to skip it, so it'll just be Shuichi, (y/n), and I training today," Maki explained, interrupting Kaito.
Maki was pouting slightly, grabbing onto the bows of her school uniform. She was looking down slightly as well. I never really expected Maki to get flustered about this sort of thing, but that didn't change my reaction on what she said.
To be honest, I was slightly shocked at Maki's words. We're we really going to train tonight despite the rule? I was shocked that she even wanted to after what the student council said about her.
"What? Really?" Shuichi asked in shock.
"...You guys don't want to?" Maki asked in response, "...do you want to die?"
I could feel myself turn cold at her words. I didn't even say anything about not wanting to train, but Maki was acting like I said I didn't want to. Maybe it was my expressions speaking louder than my voice.
Shuichi was terrified. He basically was shocked at what Maki said, repeating the last word of what she said.
"Oh, sorry... That's an old habit. Just pretend you didn't hear that," Maki explained, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
I could basically feel myself relax a little. It was a relief to me to know that she wasn't actually serious about it. I just wondered why saying that kind of thing would be an old habit for her. It was probably because of her talent. She couldn't let anyone get close, so maybe that's why she threatened people like this. That was my hypothesis anyway.
Shuichi seemed to sigh in relief as well. He did look very nervous. Hopefully he could get past what was just said. I knew I could very well.
"Anyway...I don't want to give up now," Maki explained, "I've finally started to think about...how I can confront it... So...if I have to train alone, so be it."
Maki was looking down as she said that. I could basically sense that she was serious. She soon left the room, leaving us with Kaito. I wanted to help Maki. I didn't want her to be alone. I had no idea what I could do right now...
I decided to go outside to check on Maki, leaving Shuichi with Kaito for however long they needed. I needed Maki to know that I cared:
"Hey, Maki. You don't need to act so worried. I'm sure Kaito will recover soon," I explained with a smile.
Maki stayed silent when I was talking to her. It was really like she didn't want to talk to me. I guess I'd have to try again to get somewhere.
"Maki, I'm really worried right now... please talk to me..." I muttered nervously.
Maki seemed to look up at me in response to this. She seemed slightly shocked about it. Her face then went back into something slightly emotionless.
"Today, someone tried to take your life. You were almost drowned in a pool, and yet you're worrying about others before yourself. Why do you do it?" Maki asked, "I really don't understand."
"That is because I would rather have something bad happen to me instead of someone else..." I muttered in response, "I worry about other people easily, and part of that is because I want to be the shield that can be used to save you all. That's my honest to god answer Maki..."
"You shouldn't wish on something bad happening to you," Maki replied, "it will make your mindset worse. You seem very happy right now. I don't know what exactly happened during the time of the attempted murder, but from the looks of it, something good happened."
"That is true," I replied nervously.
Maki seemed to smile lightly in response to what I said. This was a shocking sight for me because I never expected Maki to smile like that, in front of me nonetheless.
"I'm glad something good happened despite the situation," Maki said with a smile, "you always treat people nicely no matter their past or background. It still kind of surprises me on why you even talk to me."
"I talk to you because you need a friend. I've been lonely a lot throughout my whole life. I know the difference between someone who's lying about what they want," I explained, "when you told everyone to stay away from you, you didn't want that. You didn't want to be alone. I could basically feel your sadness and loneliness stem through. You just want to be accepted...not be feared by others."
Maki seemed to look to the side in response to that. It was like I hit a checkmate for her. It's always easy to see someone who's miserable from being lonely when you've been there yourself. That was exactly my case.
    "Whatever..." Maki said in response.
"There's the Maki I know," I laughed, "you don't need to change if you don't want to. Just try to open up a little more. There are people you can trust."
"I'll keep that in mind..." Maki muttered in response.
It seemed like Maki and I got closer from our conversation. It was nice. I never knew much about her, and now I know more about her. She deserved to have friends. Just like what Rantaro said about me.
We all deserved so much more than what we got now. At least I knew I could rely on people to support me through this. That was the only good thing about this place. Making friends, having a support system, and having love.
Soon enough, I noticed Shuichi walk out of the dorm. He must've followed us after wrapping everything up with Kaito. Everyone here was still worried about him. I still had no idea what was causing him not to feel well. My only ideas were that he is scared of something, or he's actually sick. I wouldn't know until one or two more days in the future.
My only hope was for the student council not to catch us outside right now. I didn't want to get in trouble. Hopefully they'd look the other way because of what Angie did.
Shuichi told Maki and I not to worry about Kaito. As soon as he started explaining himself on the matter, the whole aura of one certain person changed...
It was Maki. She had an aura of anger and bloodlust around her. That same exact thing was shown at the glare she gave. It was like her eyes were full of fire, but they were cold at the same time as well. This made me not want to piss her off more than I could manage. I really didn't want to get on her bad side.
     "Maki?" I called out.
Her aura never changed. Maki was like the embodiment of fire and ice. She was like Todoroki from Boku no Hero Academia. She could set someone on fire with that stare or freeze them with it as well.
Maki's aura never fading made me realize something. Her glare wasn't directed at Shuichi and I. Her glare was going past the both of us. Whatever she was glaring at... it was behind us,
    "Ugh...ughhhh...! Such...intense...hostility...!" Tenko's voice exclaimed.
Hearing this made me realize what was going on. Maki was glaring at a student council member to try to get them to go away. It was understandable because of the curfew they placed after what happened today. It was hypocritical to a tee.
"So this is your power! A normal person would've passed out just from that glare!" Tenko exclaimed nervously.
I still wondered what Tenko was doing. I was honestly surprised she didn't sneak away because of Maki's deadly glare. Well she is an Aikido Master, so she could stand her ground as well.
  "T-Tenko?" Shuichi asked nervously.
Maki continued to glare at Tenko. It was obvious that Maki wouldn't break her character. I was standing next to Shuichi silently, obviously nervous about what Maki's next move would be.
"You probably want me to leave, right?" Tenko asked, "but...I won't run away."
Maki glared at Tenko for a few seconds more. Suddenly the glare disappeared. Maki was no longer glaring at Tenko.
"I'm not here to fight you..." Maki explained, "and I don't think you're here to enforce the curfew."
    "What?" Shuichi asked in response.
"That's right, Maki! I'm not here as a student council member..." Tenko explained before looking down, "after finding out what Angie tried to do, I can't even stand to look at her anymore."
'So this is getting to people who are supposed to be siding with Angie?' I thought.
I slightly felt sorry for Tenko. She was basically scared by Maki in some way, and she came to tell us this. There had to be something more.
"I'm here to ask you all a favor—a personal favor," Tenko explained.
"What type of favor could you need from us?" I asked in response, "what to you need us to do?"
"I don't think she's with the student council... She doesn't sound brainwashed," Maki explained.
"Yeah...I'm not brainwashed at all," Tenko said with a nervous smile.
This finally made me realize that she was acting the whole time most likely because of Himiko. I knew Tenko really cared about Himiko, and pretending to believe Angie was her way of trying to protect her. I finally understood why she was pretending to join. I smiled lightly in thoughts of this.
"I get why you pretended," I explained, "I know you want to protect Himiko."
"You're still pretty sharp-witted, (y/n)," Tenko explained in response, "I'm honestly glad you're alright. Please be more careful the next time you make plans..."
"Yeah, I know..." I muttered in response, "so what do you need done as a favor?" I asked.
"Wait a minute!" Shuichi exclaimed, "Tenko, I thought you believed in Atua!"
Tenko then explained that she could never believe in Angie's god. She told us she especially couldn't believe in Angie's god after Angie tried to kill me. Tenko only beloved in her Aikido, which she expressed herself. She explained that she couldn't be swayed easily by anything.
Tenko told us that Aikido symbolizes mental fortitude, and Aikido moves are a reflection of that very fortitude. Basically what I got from that was that Aikido was based on mental energy, and reflecting that mental energy.
Tenko was unable to be brainwashed by Angie because of this "Mental Fortitude". This basically went against what I thought earlier. Tenko must've been trying to protect Himiko though. It can't just be because of mental fortitude.
Soon enough, Maki got Tenko to admit that she was worried over Himiko. Tenko explained that everyone in the student council idolizes Angie. They don't know how dangerous she is, and this fact was proven when she tried to drown me in the pool. Angie was dangerous having this much power.
Tenko explained that Angie truly believes in Atua. She believes that she is under his protection, so that's why she does whatever she wants. She believes she's his vessel, so she doesn't feel remorse for what she does. The more Tenko said about this, the more it actually made sense.
"And that's why you want me to kill her?" Maki asked.
Maki had a slight glare on her face. Please don't tell me that Tenko wants us to kill Angie.
"What!?" I exclaimed.
"Asking someone like me for a "favor" can only mean one thing," Maki explained in response.
Tenko was silent. There was only one thing that this meant.
"I...won't deny that. I've wanted her gone even before this all happened..." Tenko explained, "and I think everyone has wanted someone to die at least once in their life... But going through with it is a different thing!"
Tenko was right. We all probably my had someone we despised to a point where we'd say we want them dead, but at the end of the day, we could never go through with it. I never wanted anyone to die, yet when I witnessed my friend die, everyone blamed me and wanted me dead. It was sad...
"It's wrong for a person to commit murder!" Tenko exclaimed, "it doesn't matter what the reason is!"
I realized something... Tenko was saying this around the person who's Ultimate Talent revolves around killing. I didn't think Tenko realized that.
"Do you...realize who you're talking to?" Maki asked.
Tenko obviously got flustered in response to Maki's question. She apologized right on the spot. She didn't mean it in the way that it seemed she did.
Tenko explained what she wanted to do. Tenko wanted to stop Angie from doing the resurrection ritual. She said it was too dangerous to even try. I didn't particularly agree on that because of my plan, but we still needed to stop Angie.
That book was still another motive. Tenko was worried that someone could get killed from the use of that book. Her concern for it was highly understandable. We couldn't let another person die. Not after what happened with Ryoma and what almost happened with Kirumi... and not with what could've happened to me if Rantaro hadn't come in when he did.
We needed to stop the chance of a potential murder. I couldn't let another one happen.
Tenko explained that no one would defy the student council. She couldn't face them alone. That was very much true because they had a lot of people, including Gonta on their team.
This is why she came to ask us for help. She said that we were the only ones who could stop Angie. I wanted to help her out. That's what I really wanted to do. I couldn't let Angie get away with what she's done. I couldn't just let her get away with almost killing me. For those reasons, I'd want to help Tenko.
Tenko explained the reason why she chose us to help. Kokichi was loud and he always lied and messed around with people, so that made Tenko's trust in him pretty low. Miu was pretty vulgar, and she constantly put herself on a high pedestal compared to anyone. She was also a little bit dense when it doesn't come to machines. Kiyo is a bit creepy, and he wouldn't really take any interest in helping with something like this, so that took Kiyo off the board for her. Kirumi was still getting her trust back from Tenko, so she didn't go to Kirumi.
Lastly, Kaito wasn't feeling well, and no one would want to be a burden to someone who's sick. This left Shuichi, Kaede, Rantaro, Maki, and I.
I was guessing Tenko didn't go to Rantaro or Kaede because they were most likely sleeping in their rooms. I was guessing that Tenko was waiting for whoever came out first.
The people who came out first, was Shuichi, Maki, and I, so that's why we were asked to help.
Tenko did have a few options, but she decided to go with us. She requested that we help her with convincing Angie not to do the ritual. This task would most likely prove difficult because Angie doesn't like to listen to reason. I was going to try though.
If Angie felt any guilt about what she tried doing to me, she'd most likely listen. That's what I was hoping.
When Tenko requested our help, she bowed down to us. She bowed down as deep as she could. I could tell that she really was serious. She really did need our help.
It was at this moment where I realized she was in fact serious. I was planning on helping from the start, so my mind was already made.
"I'm even bowing to you!" Tenko exclaimed, "and I would never do that for any male!"
I laughed nervously when she said that. Tenko normally wouldn't talk or even bow to anyone of the male gender. She bowed to Shuichi despite that.
Soon enough, the two of them agreed to help. Maki noticed that Tenko wasn't used to asking others for help, which is understandable. She even thought Shuichi would ignore Tenko's request. He didn't though.
Shuichi did agree with Tenko about the motive. That's why he was going to help. Tenko obviously thought males were decisive, but not all of them are.
Soon enough, Tenko said that we were going to go change Angie's mind about the ritual together. There was only one place Angie would be right now.
It was explained earlier today when she was confronted about the pool incident. She said she would be in her lab to prepare for the rituals. She also explained that she'd only let student council members in her lab.
"I'd assume Angie's in her lab, right?" I asked, "that's what she said before leaving the dining hall earlier today."
"That's right!" Tenko exclaimed, "Angie should be preparing for the ritual in the Ultimate Artist Lab."
Maki seemed very confused. She was asking if she was going too. That made me realize that Maki was never really invited by anyone. It was probably because of her past and her experiences.
Tenko obviously said Maki could go. She brought up that she wouldn't ask only Shuichi for help. That sounded like an insult to Shuichi.
This was Tenko's personality though. She never really liked men, so that's why she's so cold to them. I was hoping that we could change Angie's mind. We had to. No matter what. That was our mission.

Hey guys, I know this chapter didn't really move things along, but here we go. Next chapter will be trying to convince Angie to not do the ritual! I hope you all enjoyed this chapter!- CRUSIFIXdroid
