Chapter 3 Part 16: Attempted Murder

Rantaro's POV:

I decided to head to the pool a little bit early to meet with (y/n). I still wondered why she left a note on my door like that, but she's usually very shy and nervous, so it is understandable.
I made my way to the pool with a sigh.
'Of all places, why the pool?' I thought, 'we could've met in your lab and watched anime...'
I walked the trail that lead to the pool. It was very quiet. No one was really outside. I was guessing they were trying to avoid the student council as much as they could.
I opened the doors to the pool, and I looked around. It didn't seem like anyone was in here. This concerned me slightly.
That concern turned to shock as I looked towards the pool. I saw something in the water. I went closer to pool when I noticed it...
"(y/n)!" I screamed.
It was her body in the pool. She was tied down to something. I couldn't just do nothing. I had to save her. She could still be alive.
'I have to save her....' I thought, 'she has to be alive! I can't lose her!'
I dived into the pool with a rush of adrenaline. I had to get her out. I dove down to where she was, and I noticed her legs tied to some rope. The rope looked loose, so I quietly tried getting her legs out of the rope. It took a few seconds to get her free of the rope. I pulled her with me to the surface, and I got out of the pool with her.
She was passed out looking pale. I laid her down on the pavement and checked her pulse.
"Her pulse is weak..." I muttered, "I need to do CPR..."
I started doing chest compressions, to help her stay alive. I gave her mouth-to-mouth to get air in her lungs. I was scared. I didn't want to lose her... not like my sisters. I loved this girl... I couldn't just let her die.
Suddenly, (y/n)'s body lurched forward, hacking up water they got into her lungs. This was a good sign for me because this gave me more hope that she'd live.
She was starting to breath on her own. I let out a sigh in relief when this happened.
"Thank god..." I muttered.
I gave another few respiratory breaths. She was starting to regain some color in her face. I had to stay with her.
That's when I noticed a note beside me. I hastily took the note and opened it up.

Rantaro, I'm sorry. I couldn't take this killing game anymore. I couldn't take being useless to everyone. I'm deciding to take my own life... everyone would be better off without me anyway. I'm sorry for doing this to you. Tell everyone I'm sorry...
With love, (y/n), (l/n).

My eyes widened. She couldn't be trying to take her own life. She had to be lying. A couple tears welled into my eyes.
"(y/n), please wake up... please..." I said, my voice laced with sorrow.
Right as I said that... a pair of (e/c) eyes started to appear. Her eyes were opening half lidded and slowly.

Your POV:

I felt pain. My lungs were on fire as I felt my eyes slowly open. Everything hurt. I saw Rantaro over me, his eyes glinting with concern and sadness.
I felt cold and damp. I looked at my clothes once I could see clearly, and I noticed I was wet.
"(y/n), thank god you're alright!" Rantaro exclaimed, lifting me up and hugging me tightly.
I was wondering why I was wet, and why Rantaro was so concerned about me. I was wincing in pain.
"R-Rantaro... why are you acting this way... why am I soaking wet?" I asked him.
Rantaro seemed to let go of my body right then and there. His eyes were concealed in black.
"You really don't know... after the letter I just read?" he asked.
"What letter?" I asked, genuinely confused on what he was saying.
Rantaro handed me the letter and I read it. It was a suicide note... a suicide note that was supposedly mine.
'What's this...?' I thought, 'I didn't write this...'
This was confusing me. I had no idea why I was in so much pain. I had no idea why this fake letter was here.
"Rantaro... I didn't write this... this isn't even my handwriting," I explained weakly.
"You didn't write this?" Rantaro asked, seeming genuinely shocked.
"No I didn't..." I muttered, "when I got to the pool, something hit the back of my neck, and I woke up soaking wet..."
Rantaro looked upset at this. He was clenching his fists, trying to hold back some sort of emotion.
"When I got to the pool, I found you tied to something heavy, drowning in the water!" he exclaimed.
My eyes widened when I heard this. I looked down and my hands were shaking. My lungs hurt to even take normal breaths.
"Someone tried to kill me..." I muttered, "why... why did you save me?"
"Because I love you damnit!" Rantaro exclaimed in response.
My eyes widened in shock.
'He loves me?' I thought.
Tears formed in my eyes when he said that. They weren't tears of just sorrow on the fact that someone tried to kill me. They were tears of joy because he loved me too.
"Rantaro... I wrote that note to meet up with you, so I could confess my feelings to you... I wouldn't kill myself if it meant leaving you alone..." I muttered weakly.
"(y/n)..." Rantaro muttered.
Rantaro learned closer to me, holding me in his arms. His face got closer to mine when...
I felt his lips on mine. They were soft and smooth. It was a kiss of passion and love. I closed my eyes, enjoying this moment. I was truly happy right here, right now. I was happy with him... I was happy that something finally was going right for me.
After a little while, we broke from the kiss. I was blushing madly from what just happened.
"(y/n), I know that you're shocked and upset right now... but I at least want to confirm something before we try to figure out the one who did this to you..." Rantaro exclaimed, "but will you do me the honor of being my first girlfriend?"
My eyes widened when I heard this. My heartbeat increased, causing me to hear it in my ear. A deep blush was on my face when I heard what he just asked.
Tears of happiness formed in my eyes and started to fall freely down my face. This was truly shocking to me. A truly shocking moment to have as well.
In response to his question, I nodded my head with a smile on my face. All of this was going on as tears streamed down my face. I was...happy. There wasn't a moment right now where I couldn't be unhappy, despite someone trying to kill me. Rantaro made me feel better in that regard, but we still had to address it to everyone else.
Rantaro seemed to smile at my silent answer. He hugged me with a light smile.
"Thank you..." he muttered, "now we should probably get you a towel and take you to the dining hall."
Rantaro let go of me and went to the beachside shelf area where they keep towels at a pool. He had a couple, giving them to me, so I could wrap them around my body.
I did just that. I carefully wrapped the towels around my hair and body. I sighed in relief when the towels started soaking up the cold water on my skin.
"Alright... lets go..." Rantaro muttered beginning to make his way to the door.
A bead of sweat rolled down the side of my head as he started making his way to the door. I was too weak from almost drowning that I couldn't move my body much.
"Rantaro... you realize that I almost died, right?" I asked, "I can't exactly move much of my body."
Rantaro seemed to realize this when I said it to him. He facepalmed in response to what I said.
"I'm so sorry," he said as he quickly came back to where I was positioned on the ground.
I felt one of Rantaro's arms hook underneath my legs, and the other one hooking onto my torso. With one swift movement, he lifted me off of the ground. I blushed madly as I instinctively grabbed the fabric on his chest from his shirt. I was slightly shocked, but it was...warm. It felt like my body was starting to finally restore heat that had been lost from the ice cold water of the pool.
"Alright, now we can go..." Rantaro told me softly.
"Y-Yeah..." I muttered in response.
With that, Rantaro started to walk out of the pool area with me in his arms. I knew he was most likely going to drop me off at the dining hall while he went to gather everyone.
"When you were attacked from behind, did you hear anything?" Rantaro asked me.
"No..." I muttered in response, "if this person said anything, it would've been after I passed out..."
    "I see..." Rantaro muttered.
Looking up at Rantaro, I noticed he was slightly different. He seemed to be more irritated and mad. It was almost as if he lost his carefree mysterious side in a way.
I thought about who could've done it at this moment. Everyone else was being watched by the student council, so chances are, one of the student council members was the guilty party. I think Rantaro knew that too.
We soon made it to the dining hall. Rantaro put me into a chair. I sighed lightly, nervously fiddling with my damp hair from ordeal that just happened.
"Please stay here. I need to gather everyone..." Rantaro told me.
"Alright," I replied nervously, "please don't be gone too long..."
"I won't... I want to find who was responsible for trying I murder you..." he replied with a serious expression and tone of voice.
I nodded in understanding. He then left to go gather everyone else like I predicted. I was shuddering, trying to warm myself with the damp towels that helped me dry off at least a little bit.
It felt like he was gone for an eternity. Soon enough, people started entering the dining hall. Kaede and Shuichi were first. Then came Miu, Kokichi, and Kiyo. Kirumi came in along with Kaito and Maki. The student council members, Angie, Himiko, Tenko, Keebo, Tsumugi, and Gonta came in.
Rantaro was the last one to come in. He had an angry look plastered on his face once everyone was gathered here.

Angie's POV:

I was called from my own lab to meet in the dining hall. I obviously obliged, but once I entered, I saw (y/n) covered in towels. A small frown formed on my face.
'My plan didn't work... that's too bad... Atua really wanted to meet her...' I thought.

Your POV:

"(y/n), why are you soaking wet?" Kaede asked with concern in her voice.
"We will get to that in a minute," Rantaro replied,
Rantaro was looking irritated. Everyone had innocent faces of concern and confusion. Everyone except one person were wondering why they were told to meet up here. That was understandable.
"I bet you all are wondering why I gathered you all here..." Rantaro explained.
"Yes, I really do wonder why you brought on this meeting," Kirumi replied, dignified as always.
"Well," Rantaro trailed off, "someone tried to murder less than an hour ago."
This seemed to catch mostly everyone by surprise. The ones who probably weren't surprised were Maki and the one who tried to kill me.
"Someone tried to kill (y/n) by drowning her and leaving a fake suicide note..." Rantaro explained with an angry look on his face.
"Nee-heehee," Kokichi replied, "something like this was bound to happen."
"Kokichi, now isn't the time to say that," Kaede told him.
"Aww, fine..." Kokichi muttered in response.

Kokichi's POV:

When I heard Rantaro say that someone tried to murder my precious (y/n), I nearly lost it. I had to joke around about it to not lose control of myself.
This really pissed me off, and Rantaro seemed more ticked off than usual. I guess he was angry about this too.
'Now, which one of you dirty bastards tried to kill my sweet (y/n)?' I thought.

Your POV:

"I don't want anyone to be joking around right now," Rantaro explained with an irritated tone of voice, "someone tried to kill someone dear to me, and some of you only have the nerve to joke around about it."
"I'm defiantly not joking about it," Angie explained with sad looking eyes, "I'm upset that someone would try to kill someone as sweet as (y/n)."
"We have to figure out who tried killing her though," Kirumi explained.

Kirumi's POV:

(y/n) saved my life, and now someone tried to take hers. It's my duty to help her find the one who almost took her life. I will serve her for the rest of my life for what she did for me. Nothing will change that.
"Who tried to kill her?" I asked with an angry voice.

Your POV: (sorry for switching so many perspectives)

"Who tried to kill her?" Kirumi asked, anger lacing her voice.
I've never seen Kirumi this upset aside from when she was in the class trial. Is she upset that I almost died because I saved her life? I honestly had no idea, but I was getting support from mostly everyone for some reason.
"If no one is going to fess up, then now we have to go by alibis," Rantaro explained with an angry look.
Rantaro was very serious about this. He wanted to figure out who almost took my life. He knew no one was going to fess up, so now he's asking everyone for an alibi.
"I was taking a walk with Shuichi," Kaede explained in earnest honesty.
"Y-Yeah..." Shuichi replied with a light blush on his face.
"Kaito was in his room, not feeling well..." Maki explained, "I basically had to drag him out of his room."
"I was doing some laundry in my lab. As a maid, it is my duty to serve everyone," Kirumi explained.
They all seemed like they were telling the truth, Kirumi especially. Kirumi was figured out when she murdered Ryoma, and I knew after what happened, she wouldn't try doing that again. Kaede and Shuichi were against killing, and Kaede's plan from the first case was to kill the mastermind.
Kaito was against killing, and Maki told us she wouldn't kill anyone as long as no one attacked her first.
"Nyeh...Tenko, Keebo, Tsumugi, Gonta, and I were patrolling around the area," Himiko explained tiredly, "we didn't see Angie, but she must've been in her lab, working on preparations for the ritual..."
"Nyahahaha! That's correct! I was working on the ritual preparations in my lab!" Angie exclaimed happily.
I looked over at Kokichi. He had a dark glare on his face, and it was directed at the person who just talked. This was a face I've never seen Kokichi make, and it was chilling to the core. A terrifying smirk appeared on his face as he looked at Angie.
"Angie, did anyone tell you that you're terrible at lying?" Kokichi asked, his words chilling me to the core.
Angie seemed to be in shock for a slight moment from what I saw. Kokichi's words must've been effecting her.
Everyone turned towards Angie, even Rantaro. His eyes were narrowed, looking at the student council president.
"Angie, did you try and kill (y/n)?" Rantaro asked, glaring at her, trying to get an answer.
"How could I have done that? I was in my lab working," Angie replied, "and I'm the student council president, there's no way I'd kill someone!"
"She's defiantly lying," Kokichi said darkly, "and you know me... I can tell if anyone is lying."
'He's not wrong...' I thought.
Kokichi was normally able to tell if someone was lying. His testimony was what saved me in the first trial. The only thing though was that Kokichi was getting creepier. It's as if the news that was the topic of this discussion was making him angry.
"This can't be true!" Tsumugi exclaimed, "we can't trust someone like Kokichi! Angie is innocent!"
"Cut it out!" Rantaro exclaimed angrily, "this isn't something you can just blindly back someone up on! Did you see what happened last time!"
Rantaro was now shaking. He was losing control of his emotions. I could feel the anger radiating off of his body.
"Angie almost killed someone that I care about! Do you think that I'm just going to nothing about it!? That's not how this shit works!" Rantaro yelled, his anger consuming him.
"Rantaro, I think you're being a bit unreasonable," Keebo muttered nervously.
"I'M BEING UNREASONABLE!? SOMEONE I LOVE WAS NEARLY DROWNED TO DEATH, AND SOMEONE IN THIS ROOM TRIED TO MURDER HER! I'VE ALREADY LOST SO MUCH, AND I'M NOT GOING TO IDLY STAND BY AND LET HER DIE!" Rantaro exclaimed, "NOW ANSWER THIS ANGIE! WERE YOU THE ONE WHO TRIED TO KILL (y/n)!?"
My eyes widened. I've never seen Rantaro snap like this before. He was normally so laid back, but now he was yelling because I almost died. I had no idea he could get this angry with someone. It shocked me.
"While I was on my way to my lab, I saw her walk into the pool, I swear by Atua, that's the truth," Angie replied.
Rantaro took a few breaths to calm himself down. I noticed that it was taking a lot just to keep his composure.
"I'm not buying it. That can't be all that you did," he explained, his voice still sounding very angry.
"If it helps, I noticed Angie walking to the pool at around 11:50 with some equipment," Kaede explained, "Shuichi and I happened to be in sight of the pool building at that time."
My eyes widened slightly. Angie was the one who tried to kill me.
"I went to the pool at around 11:54," I explained nervously.
What Kaede said was the thing that proved Angie as guilty. That was the truth behind this case. Andie tried to drown me, and make everyone think it was a suicide.
"Why Angie?" Rantaro asked, "why did you try and kill her!?"
"I wasn't trying to kill her! Atua wanted to meet her, so I took the steps necessary to do so!" Angie exclaimed in response, "Atua told me to do it!"
"ATUA!? THAT'S YOUR EXUSE ON ATTEMPTED MURDER!?" Rantaro exclaimed angrily, "YOU CAN'T DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS AND BLAME GOD FOR IT! YOU SAID YOU WERE AGAINST KILLING! Isn't that why you started this dumb council? Well now it's null and void."
"Atua wanted to meet her. You shouldn't blame Angie for carrying out Atua's will," Tsumugi explained, still under Angie's influence.
"I don't give a shit about that bullshit excuse. Angie could've said no even if her god told her to. But she didn't..." Rantaro stated, "we all have choices..."
Angie seemed to look down. Her eyes were full of guilt, as well as her expression. I never saw Angie act this way before. It was kind of shocking, considering the happy-go-lucky attitude she always gave.
"I'm sorry... Atua really wanted to meet her. (y/n) is so sweet and kind... I guess I just wanted her to be in the council..." Angie explained, guilt in her voice.
"I don't think I can ever forgive you for this Angie... what you did was wrong... you shouldn't be apologizing to me... you should be apologizing to the one you almost killed...." Rantaro explained, "I'm out of here... I need to blow off some steam before I start yelling again..."
With a small sigh, Rantaro left the dining hall, leaving us all in shock.
"I didn't know Rantaro could have a very good point for this situation," Kokichi explained, "I can actually say I respect him for that."
"It doesn't matter about that Kokichi... he's upset and I need to calm him down," I explained.
"Before you go, (y/n), I'm sorry for what I did. I shouldn't have listened to Atua for this situation... but the student council shall still remain together. Because of this, I feel like I have more of a drive to keep everyone safe," Angie explained.
"Alright Angie... I need to go," I muttered.
"Hey (y/n), do you need me to walk with you to the dormitory?" Kokichi asked, "you seem slightly weaker after almost drowning."
"I should be alright," I replied, "thanks for worrying about me though."
With that, I slowly walked out of the dining hall. I was still in a considerable amount of pain from almost drowning. Despite that, I didn't care about what I felt. Rantaro was probably more scarred about this than I was. I needed to help him feel better.
I slowly made my way down the hall that lead to the Entrance Hall. I exited the doors there, and I made my way outside to the dormitory. It still hurt to walk, but I had to do this. Rantaro had to be in his dormitory. That's where I was headed.
I soon made it to the dormitory. I opened the door and walked in. I looked around the dormitory to find Rantaro's door. Once I did, I walked over and rang the doorbell.
Soon, I heard the door open, revealing Rantaro. He seemed slightly shocked to see me there.
"(y/n), why did you come here?" Rantaro asked.
"I wanted to make sure you're alright..." I muttered in response.
Rantaro gave me a light smile. He chuckled lightly as he held his hand to his forehead.
"Look at that," he told me, "despite what's happened to you, you're still thinking of others before yourself. It's amazing that you do that..."
I smiled lightly and hugged Rantaro. He seemed slightly shocked that I was hugging him, but we were now dating. This would be normal for a couple. Hugging, holding hands, kissing, cuddling.
"I know you're upset with Angie, but if she died, I'd still try and do something about it..." I muttered, "we gave Kirumi another chance... so why don't we give Angie a second chance?"
"Maybe you're right, but I'm still angry at her. I can't forgive her for trying to kill someone close to me. I love you, (y/n), and I don't want anything bad to happen to you," Rantaro explained, "I've already lost my sisters. I didn't want to lose you too. You're way too important for me to just let you go. I can't do that..."
"I told you I was going to help you find your sisters. If they're still alive, I will stay by your side forever to help you find them. That's a promise. And Rantaro... you saved my life... I don't think there's any way I can thank you for that..." I muttered.
"Ah-haha, I guess we're even now," Rantaro replied with a nervous chuckle, "you really are a miracle, (y/n). There's no other person more amazing than you."
I smiled lightly. They say, after a big storm comes a rainbow. I guess that was true. I almost died today. I was almost murdered, but Rantaro saved my life, and I found out we both felt the same way about each other.
Rantaro was my rainbow. There was nothing about this moment that I'd change. My feeling s for him were just intense...
"(y/n), I love you," Rantaro told me.

"I love you too, Rantaro," I replied.
