Chapter 1 Part 8: Additional Motive Revealed, and Nail Art Equals Closer Bonds
Your POV:
I stared at the black and white bear that had cat ears instead of the round normal bear ones. The outfit it wore was a mock to all anime fans who loved Digimon or Yokai. It insulted me a great amount. I knew Monokuma wouldn't have been dead, but for him to go to this amount of ridiculousness. It pissed me off more than anything.
"And that's my cue to appear, kuma!" the terribly cosplayed Monokuma exclaimed.
"...What?" Kokichi asked, seeming to be in pure shock.
Tenko let out a huge scream, her being shocked about the reappearance of Monokuma. I honestly understood why she screamed. If I were as hopeful as her, I'd be shocked about this happening as well.
"M-Monokuma?" Kirumi asked.
"H-He's still alive!?" Kaito exclaimed.
"No, no, are you guys blind or something, kuma? I ain't Monokuma, kuma. After dying in a tragic car accident, I've been reborn as a Yo-Kai! Call me Jibakuma, kuma!" the badly dressed bear told us, "from now on, I'm the headmaster of the Ultimate Academy, kuma!
"So you think you're being funny right?" I asked.
Everyone turned towards my direction, seeming shocked that I'd comment on this. My face was shadowed as if I were upset about something.
"Everyone has hope to get out of here when you supposedly got crushed. You then have the nerve to break that hope in that god awful cosplay. It sickens me," I explained angrily.
"...Why the negative remarks Mrs. Otaku? Did I slip up or something?" Monokuma asked, without ending the sentence with 'kuma'.
"No duh ya fuckin' fraud! Go find another car to run you over! And this time, stay dead!" Miu shouted angrily.
"Ah geez... It's such a low-level cosplay, I can't bear to look," Tsumugi explained.
"I have an important question... Haven't you mistaken ghosts for yokai?" Kiyo asked, "yokai are mythological creatures first created back when humanity lived closely with nature. Back then, they were the embodiment of unexplainable natural phenomen—"
"Man you guys are buzzkills! I was all set for adventure before you started yelling at me!" Monokuma sulked, "this is why I hate teenagers! I'd have cash for days if I was dealing with the under 10 crowd!"
The Monokubs then appeared with their annoying one-liner. They seemed very shocked about their father being alive. The part that made my face look disgusted was when they were saying that they made stew with the robotic body. It also seems that there might be a machine that makes many spares. My thoughts were that it could be the door behind the bookcase. The mastermind could've gone there during the night and created a spare.
Monokuma then did a disgusting display of affection for the cubs, licking them and tossing them away when he was done.
Tsumugi asked if the killing game was going to continue. The obvious answer was a yes. Everyone was complaining, but Kirumi was reflecting on her past prediction. Monokuma didn't seem too happy about it, but he still kept an innocent look on his face.
"Is that so? Then did you also assume this next exciting development," Monokuma explained innocently.
Monokuma smirked showing sharp teeth. His left eye flowed red. This was a very scary thing to see, but we all seemed to expect that look. It was the same look he gave us while he announced the first motive. I assumed this was another one.
"Ahem! Now then, I'm pleased to announce an additional motive!" Monokuma exclaimed.
"An additional motive?" Kaede asked.
"A time limit is now in effect! If a murder does not occur by nighttime, two days from now... then every student participating in this killing game will die!" Monokuma explained in glee, "mauled to shreds by countless Monokumas from the rumored Monokuma-making machine! So unless you wanna end up as pink smears, you might wanna take this game seriously! Ahhhhh-hahahahaha!"
Everyone was in shock, their eyes widened to great amounts. I was no exception. I was shocked, considering the fact that I was going to die in two days with everyone else if no one died.
"T-Time limit?" Gonta asked in shock.
"What? Everyone will die?" Ryoma asked nervously.
"What!? That's not fair!" Tenko shouted.
"Geez, why'd you guys even come to this school if you're not gonna do the killing game?" Monokuma asked.
"You're the one who forced us to come here!" Kaito exclaimed.
The Monokubs popped up with more questions again. About the spare Monokumas. About them wanting to use the Exisals to end our lives. I stopped listening at that point. I felt like I was on the verge to collapsing. I felt so useless in this situation once again. I tried to help everyone, but I failed. I tried to inspire everyone, but I failed. I tried to have faith in myself, but I failed. Anything I did to try to get to others failed.
About five minutes later, Monokuma and the Monokubs left. I sighed lightly, gripping my head lightly. The feeling of sadness and despair once again went through. It was the feeling that could do nothing no matter how much I try. Kaede tried to get everyone together again, but everyone was starting to scatter. Before I knew it, the only ones left in the room were Shuichi, Kaede, Rantaro, Gonta, Keebo, Kirumi, Himiko, and Tenko.
"I can't die...." I muttered, "I can't yet. If I do.... it's not like anyone would really care. My speeches to try to get to you all will no longer work... I know that... I'm just going to head to my room. Don't follow me."
"Hey. Before you go (y/n). This is exactly what Monokuma wants us to do... So what else is a part of his plan.?" Rantaro asked, placing his hand under his chin and looking at me from a side view, "is my memory part of it too? If it is, then... can I even trust myself?"
"Rantaro...? What's wrong...?" I asked.
"*What's wrong,* she says," Rantaro replied, "hey, I have a question. This might sound a little weird, but... Does the term Ultimate Hunt ring a bell to anyone?"
"Ultimate Hunt?" I asked, "I don't know what that is... I'm sorry."
"What about it?" Keebo asked.
"...Nothing, forget it," Rantaro replied.
"Huh?" I asked.
The term "Ultimate Hunt" was brought up by Rantaro. It confused me so much that I was pulled out of my mind full of self esteem issues. I had no idea what that was, but it sounded like it had to do with all seventeen of us.
"What do you mean, Rantaro?" Kirumi asked.
"It's nothing, really. I'm just a bit confused is all," Rantaro replied, "everyone's a little anxious about not being able to remember how they got here, right? Well, in my case, not only am I dealing with that, I also can't remember my talent. So I guess I'm asking you to...bear with me if I say things that don't make sense sometimes."
I sighed lightly. I looked over at Kaede. She seemed very upset. She seemed to be upset that everyone was not uniting.
"Kaede it's going to be ok. I'm sure everyone will come around eventually. I'm going to go into my room now. I'm sorry for staying for too long," I explained before walking to my room.
I walked down to the dorm room, entering my dorm. I sat on the bed, wondering what to do now.
'Two days until the time limit ends.. what should I do now?' I thought.
(Freetime events start here)
I wondered what I should do for the time being. I had no idea what anyone else was doing. My doorbell soon rang, indicating that someone was at the door. I sauntered to the door, opening it.
Rantaro was in front of the door, giving me a kind smile and a wave. I smiled lightly and returned the wave.
"Hello Rantaro. What do you need?" I asked.
"Well despite what I said earlier before leaving the kitchen, I noticed you seemed a bit upset with the announcement about the additional motive. I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go the the library and look for some manga to make you feel better," Rantaro explained with a nervous chuckle.
"Yeah. I'm sure that will make me feel a bit better," I replied smiling lightly.
Rantaro smiled at me and offered me his hand. I took his hand, a light blush appearing on my face. We both slowly made our way to the library, unaware that someone was following us.
Kokichi's POV:
I watched Rantaro walk up to (y/n)'s door and ring the doorbell. I balled my fists, watching from the background being very upset.
'Damnit! I wanted to be the one to hang out with her first. You just had to take that away from me too,' I thought angrily.
Rantaro invited (y/n) to the library to find some manga, and she agreed. He then offered his hand to her and she took it. I gritted my teeth, feeling more of my self control leaving my body.
'If he tries to take her away from me... I'll..... I'll.....!'
Your POV:
I smiled lightly as Rantaro and I walked into the library. We both started to search for manga on the shelves, finding many volumes. Rantaro and I seemed to have gotten closer today. I checked my mono pad to see if I had a gift for him. I realized I had a silver ring shaped earring in there. I thought it would be perfect for him since he normally wears earrings. I took the earring, and handed it to him. A look of shock invaded his features.
"Is this for me?" he asked.
"Yes it is. I thought you'd like it because you have cartilage piercings. It looked so 'you' that I had to get it for you," I replied with a light smile.
"You're so nice and sweet to someone who doesn't remember their talent. I'll make sure I cherish this gift forever because I really love it," Rantaro replied with a light blush.
"I'm just glad you like it. So, why don't we read some manga," I said.
"Yeah sure," he replied.
Rantaro took the first volume of Full Metal Alchemist and started reading it, while I took the first volume of Fruits Basket and started reading it. Tohru Honda was the main protagonist. She lost her father and mother. Her father died earlier than the mother, and the mother died in a car accident. The parents were so loving to Tohru, making her the kind sweet person she was in the day of that manga.
"Hey Rantaro?" I asked.
"Yes, what is is?" Rantaro asked me, looking up from the manga he was reading.
"Do you ever feel envious of someone, even if they aren't real?" I asked.
"I guess you could say that. From reading this manga so far, I'm slightly envious of Edward. He sacrificed part of himself to save his brother, yet I can't even find my sisters," Rantaro explained, looking up from the book he was reading.
"I'm envious of Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket. She is such a nice girl despite the fact that both of her parents passed away. She acts like nothing bothers her, but it really does. I wish I had her mindset..." I explained.
"Whats stopping you?" Rantaro asked me, "if you want to have her mindset, then try to focus your mind on doing things like she would. That kind of optimism would help us."
"I guess you're right," I replied with a sigh, "why do you like talking to me?"
"Everyone here has very interesting personalities. Miu with her vulgar language. I think she'd most likely be the one on top," Rantaro explained, adding an innuendo.
"Pretty creative with sex related puns, aren't you Rantaro?" I asked, laughing slightly.
"Ah-haha, you catch on pretty quick. In any case, I like hanging out with you because you are the most normal one here, well you and Kaede are. You are someone I feel like I can trust," Rantaro explained.
"Then why don't you tell me about the Ultimate Hunt thing then? If you trust me so much," I replied.
"That's because I don't want you to get yourself hurt," Rantaro stated.
"Because you didn't tell me anything, I tried to do the obstacle course thing by myself..." I replied.
"I know that... didn't I say I was going to stay around you to ensure that doesn't happen again?" Rantaro asked with a slight laugh.
"Yeah you did," I laughed in response.
After that, we read our books, making comments about funny parts in the books we read. We even showed each other what made us laugh in the book.
Kokichi's POV:
I stared at Rantaro and (y/n) as they were reading manga in the library. The look on her face.
'She looks so happy,' I thought, 'do I still have a chance? I think I would if I... K i l l e d R a n t a r o . . .'
Your POV:
After that, we parted ways back into our rooms.
My eyes widened when I got back into the room. A smile appeared on my face as I realized what was going to happen.
'I need to meet up with Tsumugi! I need to get to the game room!' I thought.
I left the dorm room as fast as I could, running out of the Dormitory building. I ran as fast as I could to the game room. Once I got there, I saw Tsumugi there, waiting for me.
"Let's go, Tsumugi!" I exclaimed.
"Huh? Huuuh? Why are you so excited?" Tsumugi asked nervously.
"I'm so excited because I've never been that good at doing nails. Plus we both are basically friends, right? Isn't it exciting to have a friend doing your nails for you?" I asked, excitement obviously present in my voice.
"I-It kinda makes me feel just plain pressured when you look forward to it so much..." Tsumugi replied nervously, "I'm not *that* good at doing nails, so don't get your hopes up too much, okay?"
"Okay!" I exclaimed.
"Why are your eyes sparkling so much!?" Tsumugi asked.
Tsumugi then asked me to give me one of my hands, and she begun to paint my nails. She used white, pastel blue, and a royal blue. The way she did it was like an ombré effect on my one hand of nails.
"Okay... how's that?" Tsumugi asked.
"Oh my god! My nails are so cute! How did you get them like that!? I can't even do that!" I exclaimed happily.
"I just painted a blue gradient on them," Tsumugi replied.
"So that's what this nail style is called. All of the stuff I've done with my nails don't amount to this. This is so cute!" I replied happily.
"With a gradient like this, you can make even plain nails— No, they're medium in length, but they're shaped nicely. If you wear gloves in culinary, they shouldn't get in the way," Tsumugi explained.
"This should be fine! I see other people in class wearing gloves with acrylic nails and such," I replied.
"That's what I was about to mention. Acrylics are fine as long as you wear gloves," Tsumugi replied.
My attention then turned towards to the door, hearing it open. Someone was about to walk into the game room. Once the door opened, Rantaro walked in, smiling and waving at us both.
"Hey...what are you two up to?" Rantaro asked.
"Hey, Rantaro! Look! Tsumugi did my nails for me!" I exclaimed, showing him the one hand she did for me.
"Whaaa!? Don't show them off like they're something flashy!" Tsumugi exclaimed.
"But they're super cute!" I exclaimed.
"They're not... that amazing. Something like that is just plain basic," Tsumugi explained in response.
"Ooh, painting your nails, huh. You know, I can do that too," Rantaro explained with a light smile.
"Huh!? You can!? But...you're a boy!" I exclaimed in shock, "but that is impressive. It's hard to find men who do feminine things."
"Hmhmhm... Could it be you've done it for a girlfriend? Or girlfriends? You normie, you!" Tsumugi told him.
"Haha, no, no girlfriend or anything. What gave you that impression?" Rantaro asked nervously.
"Yeah, I guess you wouldn't have one. You seem like one of *those* types," Tsumugi replied.
"One of *those* types?" I asked.
"A gradient is nice... but with nails like yours (y/n), I recommend a French Slant," Rantaro explained.
"A French Slant? I feel like I've heard that one before, but can you jog my memory and tell me what it is?" I asked.
"Haha, it's a kind of design. It'd be faster to just show you. May I?" Rantaro asked.
"You'll do it for me? Then, yes please!" I exclaimed happily.
"Alright then," Rantaro replied.
"Oh..." I said in shock.
I know I said yes and gave Rantaro permission to paint my other hand of nails, but I never expected to grab my hand like that. A light blush appeared on my face as he painted my nails.
"Whoa, easy there... You gotta stay still, alright?" Rantaro asked me.
"O-Okay," I replied nervously.
Rantaro was doing one nail after another. It was like a diagonal nail design and it was really cute. That didn't excuse the fact that I was very flustered. A foolish smile appeared on as the nail brush tickled the side of my finger.
"Hey...Rantaro...Th-That tickles..." I said, giggling lightly.
"It's ok, I'm almost done..." Rantaro said, focused on painting.
"A...haha...p...please hurry!" I laughed lightly.
Rantaro soon finished with my nails after that. He seemed to be smiling at his own work. I was too. I was very happy that he did my nails too.
"Done! The idea is, you paint your nails in two colors diagonally, like this," Rantaro explained happily.
"Oh my god! This is super cute too! My nails look really fancy with this two-toned design!" I exclaimed.
"Painting then diagonally makes them look long and pretty!" Rantaro exclaimed enthusiastically, "now, I don't have any with me right now, but some rhinestones would look perfect...
"Like the gemstones you put on your nails? Those would look very cute. With the gradient too!" I exclaimed.
"I agree with you on that one," Rantaro replied.
"You are very good at this Rantaro," I replied with a light smile, "maybe you're actually the Ultimate Nail Artist!"
"Haha, nah, this is nothin' special," Rantaro replied nervously, "...I used to do this all the time."
"For...a girlfriend maybe?" I asked.
"Didn't I tell you? It's not that," Rantaro replied nervously, "just for family. Nothing romantic. But anyway... Tsumugi's staring daggers at us. Did I do something...?"
"Hm, hmhm, what a showoff... Damn normies! Go backflip onto a landmine and explode!" Tsumugi muttered angrily.
I thanked Rantaro and Tsumugi for a wonderful time, and I headed back to my room. My heart was beating fast after the whole event with Rantaro. My face couldn't stop turning red at the thought of him. There were a few things this could mean, but the most logical answer was what I'm going with.
"Am I falling for Rantaro?" I asked myself.
Here is the next chapter guys! I am so sorry I didn't update last week! I was at an anime convention called Shutocon. I got to meet Sean Chiplock, the one who voices Kiyotaka Ishimaru, Monotaro, and Mishima from Persona 5. I got a video of him doing all of the impressions. For the people on Quotev, the video will be on the next chapter.
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
By the way, I made the chapter longer because of my absence. I hope you all enjoyed it. I'm gonna change the prompt just for this week.
Prompt 6 (I think): "What would you do if Rantaro did your nails?"
I wish you all luck, and please write for this one! I love all you my fans. Next chapter next week! Ciao!- CRUSIFIXdroid.
