Chapter 1 Part 7: Two Sided Guilt
Your POV:
I let out a light sigh as I was in my unconscious state. I felt warm.... comfy..... soft...... it didn't feel like I was still on the floor of the underground passageway.
My eyes slowly opened, bright light flooding my vision. My eyes were met with a grayish ceiling, that of the same color as the dormitory...... Wait.....
I looked around the room, now knowing I was in the dormitory, noticing there was a blanket draped over my body, but there was one difference. The blanket was a navy blue, not red like my dorm room. I looked to my left, noticing someone sitting next to me, seeming like they were in thought.
It was Rantaro who was next to me. I realized it because of his green hair and piercings. He was I a position where he was a side profile, his head resisted on his hand. He was looking down at his hand as he was in thought.
(Reference picture just Incase you don't know what the hell I'm talking about)
'Did he find me after I passed out from attempting the passageway...' I thought.
Rantaro stayed in the same position, but his eyes moved to the side, looking in my direction, meeting my gaze. He snapped out of his thought a few moments after that. He turned towards me, a stern look plastering his features.
"I see you're finally awake," Rantaro told me, crossing his arms.
I got a little bit nervous because he looked very upset with me. His eyes were narrowed, and he had a frown on his face. This was a look I haven't seen from him before, so it scared me.
"Yeah........." I muttered in response.
I sat up, lowering my head doing so, a shadow casting over my eyes.
"......you're upset with me aren't you...?" I muttered.
"I kinda am (y/n)," Rantaro replied.
Rantaro walked closer to me, sitting on the bed now. He grabbed my shoulders to get my attention. I kept my head down so I wouldn't have to face him.
"Why would you try to do such a thing alone? You could've died there. We were all worried about sick about you," Rantaro explained in a more worried tone than usual.
I stayed silent while Rantaro was speaking. Even a few moments after, I couldn't muster up the courage to even speak. Rantaro's grip on my shoulders got tighter and he jerked me back a and fourth to try to get my attention.
"Look at me (y/n)! Tell me what made you attempt to complete that alone!" Rantaro suddenly shouted.
Tears started to well up in my eyes as I kept my head down. I gripped the blanket my hands were on as a gritted my teeth to try and keep myself from crying.
"I just wanted to try and get everyone out of here..... all I wanted to do was prove my worth to everyone.." I replied quietly.
I slowly raised my head up, showing my tear filled eyes, sadness and guilt present in them.
"Is that really bad?" I asked, tears streaming down my eyes.
Rantaro's eyes seemed to have softened after he saw my state. He sighed as he let go of my shoulders.
Rantaro then wrapped his hands around my crying form and brought me to his chest, hugging me closely.
"You really need to stop being so reckless. I keep telling you that you aren't worthless. Why don't you ever believe me?" Rantaro muttered.
"No matter how much everyone tells me I'm not useless... I think I'm useless..." I muttered in response.
"I don't get why you're like this.... you remind me about one of my sisters," Rantaro muttered, "maybe that's why I feel a very strong urge to protect you..."
I sighed lightly, letting my tears silently fall. Maybe it was because of the thoughts going through my head. The fact that......someone died... because of me....
"Why can't I try to protect you Rantaro... I wanted to help you end the killing game.... this is all I could do after you rejected my request...." I explained quietly.
Rantaro let out a dry laugh. It sounded a bit depressed. Rantaro released me from the hug with a sigh. I was a bit confused on why he acted so sad suddenly.
"So it is partially my fault, huh?" Rantaro asked dryly.
I was confused. Rantaro blames himself for my choice... what I chose to do.
"Why do you blame yourself?" I asked.
"Because I rejected your help. It's my choice that made you do this," Rantaro replied with a guilty look in his eyes.
I sighed lightly before giving Rantaro a light smile.
"Rantaro. This is not like you at all. Where's the calm mysterious guy I met? Now you say that you are to blame for my choice?" I explained with a light giggle, trying to cheer Rantaro up.
Rantaro seemed to smile really softly at what I said. I knew right there and then that it was working.
"Ah-haha, I guess you're right. I have to be stronger to help you out," Rantaro said nervously with a light blush dusting his cheeks.
"I want to help you too Rantaro. I don't want to worry you all the time," I replied.
"I guess I'm just going to have to stay with you at all costs to make sure you don't do anything like this again," Rantaro said with a slight laugh.
I blushed madly and attempted to cover my face. Rantaro started laughing a bit at this, teasing me about it.
"W-We c-can't share dorm rooms!" I exclaimed.
"Ah-haha, you're so adorable like that. I'm just trying to light up the mood for you," Rantaro replied.
I smiled lightly, the blush fading away slowly. I felt better.
"You should probably go to bed. It's very late. I hope you have a good night. Don't do anything reckless," Rantaro explained.
I nodded lightly in understanding. I got up and made my way towards the door.
"Goodnight Rantaro. I'll see you in the morning," I said.
Rantaro smiled and waved as I left the dorm room. I soon found my dorm, and entered it. I walked over to the bed and got in it, covering my body with the blankets. I closed my eyes and fell asleep, having a dream where we all escaped and became friends.
The morning announcement played, releasing me from my peaceful sleep. I rubbed my eyes and focused my attention on the monitor. There was only one Monokub. It was Monodam. I yawned lightly before getting up from my bed and taking a shower. Once I was done with the shower, I put on my new clean uniform and headed out to head to the dining hall.
I walked from the dormitory into the school. Once I got through the entrance hall doors, I turned left to head go the dining hall. I noticed Tsumugi near the staircase that led to the next floor. She looked very upset about something, so I decided to approach her. Once I did, she let out a sigh of sadness.
"Hey Tsumugi, are you alright? What's wrong?" I asked.
"Look at this. My nails are all messed up...," Tsumugi explained, showing me her nails, "it probably happened when we came here. And now I can't take good care of them."
"Your nails?" I asked in response.
"I understand... You're surprised that plain old cares about my nails, right?" Tsumugi asked.
"Well. Saying that also calls me plain and old. So no, I'm not surprised," I replied, "but when you say nails, you mean nail art right? I'm terrible at it. I've tried it before."
"Oh, I see. You're too busy with watching anime to do your nails. I'm guessing you try to draw stuff too. I guess you get pretty busy," Tsumugi replied.
"It's not only that. I was in culinary class too before I was trapped here. You're not allowed to have long nails," I explained in response.
(If you're not in culinary, too bad. I'm putting this because I'm in culinary, and I'm replacing the case for Kaede)
"Oh, I see. Nails would get in the way when preparing food, huh?" Tsumugi asked.
"Yeah... but they're a bit longer now..." I replied.
I realized that I had a something to give Tsumugi to help her with her nails. It was the nailbrush I found on the floor in the library. I smiled lightly.
"I know! I can give you this nailbrush if you want!" I exclaimed.
"Huh? Are you sure? But, I can't just take it for free," Tsumugi replied.
"Don't worry about it. I always love helping others," I replied.
"No, no. For things like this, we need an equivalent exchange," Tsumugi said boldly.
"You just made a Fullmetal Alchemist reference didn't you?" I asked.
"I couldn't resist but it's true. How about I do your nails later?" Tsumugi replied.
"Really!? That sounds like fun! Let's do it!" I exclaimed.
"Then let's do it this afternoon..." Tsumugi said, "Oh! We can use the game room."
"Got it! This will be so much fun! Thank you!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah, see you later," Tsumugi replied, before going to the dining hall.
I made my way to the dining hall as well. Once I got there, I noticed everyone was there, and they were all in a good mood too. This caused a small smile to form on my face.
"Maaan, for a moment I had no idea what was gonna happen! I'm glad it turned out like this!" Kokichi exclaimed.
"Nyahahaha! And (y/n) is safe too! I wonder where she went yesterday!" Angie exclaimed.
"Yeah, seriously... both of you have good points..." Kaito replied.
"Nyeh... I slept well last night. Also I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth by myself," Himiko said happily.
"You did all that with magic!? You're so amazing, Himiko!" Tenko exclaimed.
"Praise be to Atua. Surely He helped you in His own mysterious, miraculous way," Angie replied.
"This Atua seems to act in Secret a lot..." Tsumugi mentioned.
"Because Atua smells of danger," Angie replied.
"But... when someone coming to get us?" Gonta asked.
"Whoever does...I assume they will come today. There's no need to worry," Keebo replied.
At the comment Keebo made, Rantaro and I kinda looked a bit upset. I knew that something was going to happen.
"Why the long faces?" Ryoma asked us.
"It's nothing..." Rantaro and I happened to say at the same time.
We both looked at each other when that happened with wide eyes. I smiled lightly at him to try and lighten the mood. It didn't work this time.
"I figure no one would listen to some guy who can't even remember his own talent, right?" Rantaro asked.
I elbowed Rantaro after he said that. He winced slightly in pain. I sighed lightly after that.
"Like I said before. It doesn't matter if thy remember your talent or not. We will still listen and treat you as an equal," I told him.
"Right..." Rantaro replied.
"Anyway. I hate to interrupt, but what did two mean?" Kirumi asked.
"Really, it's nothing. This is...quite the happy ending," Rantaro and I said at the same time.
We both looked at each other with shocked looks once again.
"Jinx!" I yelled.
"Ah-haha, why does this keep happening?" Rantaro asked with a nervous laugh.
"I don't know, but it's weird," I replied.
"Is this really how it ends though?" Kaede asked.
I looked towards Kaede. I nodded at her, basically telling her that she's right.
"I mean, it just seems too easy. I don't think it'll end like this," Kaede said nervously.
"I wonder... Do you wish the killing game would have continued?" Kiyo asked.
"N-No, not at all—" Kaede replied.
"Then don't ruin our happy moment you fuckin' skank!" Miu exclaimed harshly.
"Miu cut it out!" I yelled.
"Oh, the useless Otaku wants to yell at me. Boo hoo. I won't listen you hentai driven whore!" Miu replied.
My eyes narrowed slightly. I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth.
"Oh I'm sorry, you're the one who's most likely hentai driven. I mean look at how slutty you are. It's no surprise that you are addicted to porn," I replied, making an attempt at a comeback.
Miu stayed silent after that, most likely upset that I called her out. Everyone looked shocked that I actually insulted someone, and mentioned inappropriate media.
"Nee-hee-hee Nice comeback (y/n)... but let's get back on topic," Kokichi explained, "Hey, Kaede... I don't get what you're so worried about. Monokuma is dead now. There's no way the killing game can continue, y'know?"
Suddenly we heard the annoying noise that Monokuma and the Monokubs made when appearing in the room. What we saw was... Monokuma in a terrible yokai cosplay....
"Oh no..." I muttered.
