Chapter 1 Part 10: The Last Day

Your POV:

I opened my eyes upon hearing the morning announcement. I yawned slightly, groaning and getting out of bed. I did my usual routine in the morning. I hopped in the shower, washing myself off, and when I was done, I dried myself off and put a new uniform.
I sauntered over to my door, noting that no one knocked on the door this morning. I exited my dorm room, heading to the exit of the dormitory building. I opened the door and stepped outside, the seemingly free air hitting my face. I peeked up slightly at the sound of a very overly cheerful voice.
"Hiiiii (y/n)!" Angie called out to me, running up to where I was.
    "Hey Angie," I replied nervously.
"Hey, hey! Have you decided how you wanna spend your last moments?" she cheerfully asked in response, "maybe...you wanna pray to Atua with me?"
"E-eh?! You shouldn't be giving up so easily!" I exclaimed in shock.
"Nyahahaha! Kaede told me the same thing! You two are so alike!" Angie responded, "you get along so well with everyone here. I was hoping it'd rub off on the others in the dining hall."
"Wait a minute... what are you talking about?" I asked.
"Atua has spoken... In such dire times, why won't they stop fighting?" Angie asked with a close-eyed smile.
"F-Fighting!?" I exclaimed.
"Ummmm, they're fighting in the dining hall. Atua is really bummed out about it," Angie replied with a curious look on her face.
My face was starting to lose color a bit. You could see a lot of nervousness in my face. I sighed lightly, trying to ease the pressure I was feeling.
"Angie.. can you please come with me? You did say it's in the dining hall right?" I asked.
"Okie-dokie, we'll stop it together," Angie replied.

(Reader doesn't know what the fight is about. She's gonna make her way over there! Basically before Kaede makes it there. And she tagteams with Angie)

I wondered who was fighting and why. I looked to the side, thinking for a moment about what it could be.
"Perhaps it has to do with the time limit..." I muttered to myself.
"Atua thinks you said something (y/n)!" Angie exclaimed.
"N-No! It's nothing. Let's just go," u replied.
I sprinted over to the entrance doors of the school. I opened them and ran inside. Angie managed to keep up with me, her high spirit and energy being assets to her. I had no idea what the fight was about, but I didn't care. I ran over to the dining hall and opened the door.
I ran into the dining hall, stopping right after I got there. I placed my hands on my knees, hunched over and breathing heavily from sprinting. I took a moment to get my breathing in check. Once I was hardly panting anymore, I looked up. Rantaro, Ryoma, Kiyo, and Kirumi were there staring at me. Angie was also in the room, but she was the one who entered with me.
"What's going on here?" I asked, my eyebrows narrowing slightly.
"Oh, (y/n). Perfect timing," Rantaro replied nervously, "I...really don't know what to do, (y/n). Ryoma started talking crazy..."
"All I was doing was making a suggestion," Ryoma replied, "so that more people can survive.... Even if it's just one more."
I looked over to Kirumi after hearing this. She seemed to take note of this.
"I think it would be best if you heard Ryoma's idea for yourself," Kirumi told me.
I sighed lightly. I looked over to Ryoma and approached him. I looked down at him before speaking.
"What did you mean about that statement, "so that more people can survive"?" I asked.
"Don't you get it? If time runs out like this, we'll all get annihilated, y'know," Ryoma explained, "the only way to avoid that is to play along with this killing game."
"H-Huh? Please wait a moment Ryoma!" I exclaimed in response.
    "Kill me," Ryoma stated.
"Ryoma! What are you saying?" I exclaimed, feeling uneasy.
"You don't get that either? I'm saying that I'll give you guys my life," Ryoma replied calmly, "I...don't have a reason to live anymore. So if the rest of you want to live, I'll hand my life over to you."
"I would never do that! We promised we'd all get out of here together!" I exclaimed in response.
"Hmph, I hoped it'd end that way. That's why I waited so long to bring this up," Ryoma explained, "but we've just been waiting for the deadline without doing anything to change it. There's no more time left for idealism, don't you think?"
    "N-No...it's not idealism..." I replied.
"This is the best choice for this situation," Ryoma stated, "whoever murders me will get to leave without a trial. Everyone else survives the time limit... After that, the person who gets go escape can go for help and rescue everyone else."
I was honestly upset hearing this. I felt like I had no time to think about it. I always felt I was a nuisance to everyone and that I wanted to die, but Ryoma wants to sacrifice himself for everyone. As plausible as it could be, I didn't want him to.
"How about it? If you've got a better idea, I'd like to hear it," Ryoma stated.
    "U-Um..." I muttered nervously.
I wish I could do something to help Ryoma believe in himself. I had no plan... I was truly useless. I felt a few tears start appearing in my eye from how upset I was and how under pressure I was.
"Ryoma. There's no need for that," Rantaro states, having a creepy smile and darker tone to his face.
    "Hm?" Ryoma asked.
"There's no need for that, because I'm going to end this game," Rantaro explained, "I've already decided."
"How will you end this killing game? It's not a feat that can be done alone!" I replied, obviously worried for Rantaro.
I've noticed it for a while. Rantaro was most likely hiding something. The business with the Ultimate Hunt. He knows what it is while everyone doesn't.
'I think I'm going to confront him later,' I thought.
I looked at Rantaro, waiting for an answer to my question after snapping back from my thoughts. I needed to know what he was planning.
"It's not about outfoxing everyone in this killing game, it's about ending the game itself," Rantaro explained, "that's the real goal."
"You're avoiding my question!" I exclaimed.
"Can you...even accomplish such a feat?" Kiyo asked.
"Kiyo, That's basically what I asked. Don't copy my questions," I told the Anthropologist.
"I wouldn't be saying this if I didn't think I could," Rantaro replied.
"And how will you end it? You understand that the time limit expires tonight, yes?" Kirumi asked.
"Why are you guys repeating the same things I asked before. It's like you all aren't going to listen no matter how I try," I explained, getting slightly frustrated.
"Haha, sorry, can't tell you. Actually, if I could, I wouldn't be having so much trouble," Rantaro replied to Kirumi, but not... me.
"What do you mean?" Ryoma asked.
"Just what I said. I'm going to end this game," Rantaro replied, his face then going darker, "so don't any of you do anything unnecessary, Alright? I'm looking at you (y/n), and you Ryoma."
My eyes widened slightly, anxiety filling me after he said that. It kinda terrified me because he knew what I did to try and say anyone. I was still upset. He decides to acknowledge me now.
"Hmph, when you put it like that, it seems like I still have ways to go," Ryoma replied, "alright. I got it. I take back my suggestion. Do whatever you want. Whether you guys live or die is up to you."
I watched Ryoma leave. I sighed lightly, and looked to the side.
"Geez, that Ryoma... I hope I helped calm him down a little," Rantaro told me.
"Listen... I know you are serious about ending this killing game. You are so set on doing it alone. You avoided my questions when I asked them, but when Kirumi and Kiyo asked the same things I did... you answered them... not me. Rantaro... I feel like you are hiding something. I don't know what... if you actually trusted me, then you would've let me help you. You're not the only one who wants to end this game. I'm leaving...." I explained before storming out of the door.
"(y/n) wai—"  Rantaro said, being cut off be the door slamming shut.
I felt like crying my eyes out after saying that. I had to get it off my chest though. All I wanted to do was help. He wouldn't let me though. Being trapped in my thoughts I bumped into something hard, but soft at the same time.
"Whoa, (y/n). You seemed dazed," I hear Kaito's voice say, being closer to my ear than I thought.
My eyes widened when I realized I bumped into him. A red blush of embarrassment appeared on my face as I backed away, Bowing repeatedly.
    "I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed, "I didn't see where I was going!"
"Hey, it's alright. I wanted to ask you something anyway," Kaito replied with a smile.
"Sure, what is it?" I asked.
"So I wanted to gather a group of people who can aid us in fighting Monokuma. You are very observant and inspiring that I want you to be there. I hope you come. We will have a strategy meeting down in the basement," Kaito replied.
"Sure... I want to at least help someone stop the killing game," I replied.
"Then it's settled. I'll see you later!" Kaito announced before running off.
A light smile appeared on my face. It was nice that he at least thought me as useful. Maki would most likely think I was being annoying. I started walking over to my dorm. I felt like getting some sleep would do well before the strategy meeting. It would most likely be near the nighttime announcement. I had enough time to get rest.
I walked back into the dorm promptly, falling onto the bed. Soon enough, I fell asleep, letting most of my last day alive, going to waste.

*later*

The sound of my doorbell ringing echoed across the room, being repeated by the person using it to get my attention. My eyes slowly opened as I let out a huge yawn. I sluggishly got out of bed, looking into a mirror and smoothing down my hair which got messy from sleeping.
I made my way over to my door, opening it. A familiar face stood there, giving me an awkward glance. I honestly didn't know what to say to him considering what I told him this morning. I was a bit anxious to see him at my door.
"Hey (y/n), did you sleep well?" Rantaro asked me, breaking the silence.
"Yeah, I did..." I replied, casually looking to the side.
"I thought about what you said earlier. I know you're upset and you think I'm hiding something. You're not far from the truth. It would be easier to tell you what's going on, but I can't risk it. It's not because I don't trust you. It's because I can't afford to make any wrong decisions in this plan. One tiny thing could cost me my life. You understand that don't you? I don't want you to die too," Rantaro explained.
'Just what have you gotten yourself into?' I thought.
I sighed lightly. I then smiled lightly at Rantaro. A small frown then appeared on my face.
"I understand where you're coming from... but what if it's the other way around. What if not telling anyone could result in you dying? I feel like you fail to see the fact that both things are possible. Trust is a risk, but not trusting anyone is also a risk too. I just want to help you. If you died... I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Try to consider the feelings of others too..." I explained in response.
"I know I know," Rantaro replied, putting his hands up in defense, "I'll tell you what. I'll tell you everything after tonight. My plan will work."
"It's a deal," I replied.
"Alright then. Let's go," Rantaro replied, grabbing my hand lightly.
Red dusted my cheeks as he did so. I looked up at the boy who couldn't remember his talent, almost in an innocent way.
"Wait here are we going?" I asked.
"To the basement. Kaito invited me to go to some strategy meeting. He also told me you were going, so I went to get you," Rantaro replied.
"Oh. Well let's go," I replied.
Rantaro and I walked to the entrance hall. He opened the door for me almost like a gentleman would. I smiled lightly at him and walked in. We went to where the first classroom was there was a group of people there. Those people were Tenko, Himiko, Gonta, Kaito, Maki, and Angie. Rantaro and I were the two new people in the group.
"Rantaro, (y/n), I'm glad you made it!" Kaito exclaimed with a bright smile.
"Yeah we did. I still don't get why you'd invite me, but let's get this thing started," I replied.
"Well said (y/n). The only thing is he probably invited you because you are observant. That's a good trait," Rantaro replied with a light smile.
"Well, any-who! Since we are all here, let's head to the basement for the strategy meeting!" Kaito announced.
With that said, the group made its way to the staircase, going down the stairs. As we were walking, I decided to talk with Rantaro.
"What do you think this strategy meeting is about?" I asked.
"It probably will be about positions for people. Kaito is definitely going to try and beat Monokuma," Rantaro replied.
"Hopefully it will work. If it doesn't... we all will die," I replied.
"Not by my watch. Like I said... I will end this game," Rantaro replied in a serious voice.
"Don't do anything stupid..." I told him.
"Yeah, yeah I know," Rantaro replied nervously.
All of us made it downstairs. I looked over at Rantaro and smiled at him. He looked at me and smiled back. It seemed like he actually was trying to think over whatever plan he had in his head. I honestly was worried about Rantaro. Him doing all of this stuff alone really worried me. He wouldn't rely on anyone to help him. I knew I was the closest person to him out of everyone here, but I still felt like he didn't truly trust me. Having a friend means trusting them even if there is a risk. I feel like I can trust him with most of my problems, so what is making him not able to trust anyone else..?
I was stuck in thought as the strategy meeting took place. I honestly had no idea what to do. I stayed silent as everyone talked things out. No one questioned me being silent. About half way through the meeting, Gonta went into the AV room and shut himself in. That was basically it. I zoned out through the conversation, not being able to listen go anything. My thoughts were focused on what Rantaro's plan could be. It could literally be anything from killing the mastermind to finding the Monokuma making machine and destroying it.
I suddenly snapped out of thought, hearing a strange music play. I looked over at the monitor, seeing a video play. It was the source of the music, creation gory imagery. I looked over at the group. They all were looking at the screen. I noticed something too. Rantaro went missing. This made my mind go into panic mode. I frantically looked around.
"I'm going to look for Rantaro! He went missing!" I exclaimed.
Before anyone could say anything, I sprinted from the group. I thought about the library since the hidden book case was there. I walked into the library, trying to look for him. I thought he would be here.
The smell of musty books hit my nose once more, but there was something different. A light scent of metal accompanied the smell of dust. It stuck me as odd. I walked around the library, the horrid music still playing. The imagery played repeated and repeated.
"Rantaro?" I called, "are you in here?"
I continued to look around. A dreadful feeling coursed through me. I was starting to get nervous. I looked in the direction of the back bookcase.
"Rantaro... if this is a prank, it's not funny," I said nervously.
I made my way over to the back of the bookcase. The metallic scent getting stronger. It made me nervous because the library never smelled like metal was in there. I curved around the bookcase....
I was welcomed with a bright white flash. I was confused on why something flashed. I paid no mind to it, but to the scene in front of me.

Droplets of pink were splattered across the area, littering the floor and the hidden bookcase, the bubblegum colored liquid splattered on the floor. The metallic scent was the strongest at this point, realization of what that metallic scent was coming from. That metallic scent came from what was splattered onto the floor. This liquid was blood. Fresh blood coming from a fresh wound. A bloody metal ball laid at the scene of the crime, obviously looking like it was used for the horrid deed. About an hour before the time limit ended....
Rantaro Amami laid there, cold and motionless, hot pink oozing out of his head. He was laid on his side, a dark shadow over his eyes. It was his blood splattered everywhere. It was his blood on that metal ball normally used for track and field.
I stumbled back from the scene being shocked. My eyes were widened in disbelief. He was supposed to survive. He promised me. He told me he was going to live! Tears appeared in my eyes as I covered my mouth with my hands. My knees caved in, causing me to collapse near the body. A huge scream left my lips, being ear bleeding and in vain. It was enough to make anyone run forth to where it came from. It was a scream filled with agony. My agony...

I wonder how many of you guessed this to be what would happen. The people who won my fanart competitions know this would happen I'm afraid... but don't worry... this isn't the end. I'm not giving any spoilers so bear with me. Because of this, I'm not hosting a prompt this week. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I'll update next week. Ciao- CRUSIFIXdroid
