Chapter 1 Epilogue

Your POV:

"What do you mean I died?" Rantaro asked, seeming slightly alarmed.
I looked at Rantaro with a slight look of shock. My gaze then hit the floor as sadness flew through my body at the memory of what I saw.
"You w-were on the f-floor in the library dead... your skull was cracked because of a shot put ball that traveled from the vent to the place you died..." I explained, grasping my hair tightly as I even spoke about it.
"A rogue shot put ball, huh?" Rantaro asked, seeming slightly confused.
"I dunno," Rantaro replied, "I saw weird things before my vision went black. I thought someone knocked me out or kidnapped me."
Rantaro chuckled slightly about the comment he made. Everyone was still bewildered. The person who's ultimate talent wasn't revealed was alive and well.
"R-Rantaro, I'm so sorry... I thought I killed you..." Kaede exclaimed, tears in her eyes.
"Hey Kaede it's alright. I don't think you were the one to do this... I still need time to piece everything together though..." Rantaro replied nervously.
"I guess it was a traumatic experience," Kirumi explained, "we should let him take his time."
"I guess that makes sense..." Tsumugi replied nervously as well.
I knew for a fact that this would shake everyone up for awhile. This even shook me up. I had to find out what made Rantaro come back to life. It must be some sort of voodoo stuff or magic.
"Perhaps Atua rewarded you for being so kind Rantaro!" Angie exclaimed.
"It could be something having to do with a blessing from the ancestral gods," Kiyo explained.
"Now just wait a minute!" Monokuma exclaimed, "how the hell are you still alive!?"
"I think it was a blessing!" Monophanie exclaimed, seeming happy that he was alive.
"That doesn't matter," I stated boldly.
I walked over to where Monokuma's throne was, my eyes narrowing from what Monokuma said. I pointed an accusing finger at him, and began my piece.
"It doesn't matter how Rantaro survived!" I shouted angrily, "no one died, Kaede cannot be executed because the fact that Rantaro is still alive! You wouldn't kill us either. It would kill off your *precious* killing game. I'm sure you wouldn't do that. You may be a psychopath, but I'm sure you would keep us alive to keep your sick ratings!"
Monokuma was sweating slightly, seeming shaken back about how I could even yell at him. What I did wasn't even against the rules. I never harmed Monokuma. I told him off and put him in his place.
"I would've never expected the shy Otaku to yell at me... in any case, she's right. As much as I want to execute the Pianist girl, I can't because Rantaro is somehow alive. It would be breaking the rules. Jeez I hate you damn kids..." Monokuma sulked, "and she's right when she says that I don't want to end this killing game. You god damn Otaku, seeing through me... Fuck you."
After saying that, the monochromatic bear left as long as the five Monokubs. They most likely didn't know what to do about it so they fled. I sighed lightly and looked back over to everyone.
"Rantaro it's great to have you back," Kaito stated.
"Nee-hee-hee I agree. We can stay friends now help us be friends when we get out of here!" Kokichi exclaimed.
Kokichi's smile seemed forced and fake. The way he said that line for some reason sent chills down my spine. He seemed like he was lying and actually happy that Rantaro *was* dead.
"We should get back to the dorms... everyone needs rest. We need to talk about this tomorrow," Shuichi explained.
Everyone obviously agreed, seeming very mentally drained from the events today. A thought occurred to me while I was walking.
'The mastermind probably had surveillance cameras set everywhere.... we need to come up with a way to talk about this without the mastermind knowing,' I thought.
I then thought of an idea. I should talk to Miu about a device to scatter the camera wavelengths so Monokuma won't see anything.
As everyone made it to the dorms, I pulled Miu aside before she entered the dorm.
"What the hell do you want?" Miu asked.
"I was wondering if you made a device that can scatter camera wave lengths..." I explained in response, "if we have some sort of method that kept Rantaro alive, Monokuma can't know about it. We need a way to talk in private about it."
"Well, lucky for you, I already created a prototype that will work. Follow me, and I'll show you what it does. Why don't you invite your boy toy, so I can explain it to him too," Miu scoffed.
"Alright, I'll go get him," I replied.
"Come to the pavilion when you find him," Miu told me before walking over to the pavilion.
After that, I walked up to the dormitory door, getting ready to open it. Rantaro had to have been inside of the dormitory, sleeping. As I was about to open the the door...
"I'm already here," Rantaro told me, suddenly appearing from behind the dorm building.
I jumped up and screamed slightly from shock. After that, I blushed from embarrassment and looked down.
"Sorry for startling you (y/n), I knew you'd want me to accompany you so I will," Rantaro explained.
Rantaro and I walked to the pavilion where Miu told us to meet up. I saw her outline from under the pavilion, seeming slightly annoyed that she even agreed to show us this prototype of hers. We finally got up close to her, reaching where she was.
"It's about fuckin' time you plebs... let's get this over with. I'm tired as hell," Miu told us.
After that was said, we all made our way to the Ultimate Inventor Lab. It was near the Shrine of Judgement, being on another trail. Once we got there, we all walked in.
There were many inventions and contraptions inside of the building. Many of them looked like they'd be used for pornographic stuff. She led us to one that was small in size, and in the shape of a short cylindrical speaker.
"This is a white noise machine of sorts. Not only does it cancel out sound from other rooms, but it also scatters camera wavelengths. It will knock out the camera signals in whatever room you use it in. Monokuma wont be able to hear you or listen in," Miu explained.
"That's impressive Miu. Are you sure it works though?" I asked.
"Of course it works! What do you think I am, a fuckin' idiot!? Hell, I even tested it myself!" Miu exclaimed.
"I don't even want to know what you were doing during the test run..." I muttered.
"What the hell is with your attitude!?" Miu exclaimed angrily, "just fuckin' take the damn thing before I change my mind!"
Miu seemed very upset about the comment I made towards her. I picked up the device carefully and left the Ultimate Inventor Lab. After that, Rantaro and I made our way out of the school. I looked over to Rantaro and gave him a serious look.
"I want to know what happened. We should go to the library and see if we can look into anything..." I explained to Rantaro.
"I agree. I want to know what happened too. I have something to tell you as well. It would be beneficial to use the device while we're in there," Rantaro told me.
    "Alright..." I replied.
Rantaro and I walked into the school making our way to the basement. We didn't really talk on the way down to the library because it wasn't a time to talk about things that didn't relate to the mystery. We walked into the library, headed towards where Rantaro supposedly died. Once we got there, the murder scene wasn't there any more. The shot put ball wasn't there, the blood wasn't there. Even the books were back to normal. Before the conversation started, I turned the small device on.
"It's like nothing happened in here..." I muttered.
"You're right..." Rantaro replied, "I woke up next to a shot put ball, and blood was on the floor."
I looked over to Rantaro. Monokuma couldn't watch this because we blocked the camera wavelengths. I sighed lightly before placing my hand on his shoulder.
"Tell me what you needed to say," I told him.
Rantaro looked like he was slightly alarmed, being confused as well. This struck me odd. Did something happen?
"It was strange enough that I noticed a flash coming from a hidden camera in a bookshelf, but there was something that struck me odd," Rantaro explained.
    "What happened?" I asked.
"I don't know if I was hallucinating, but I think a shot put ball fell from the bookshelf.." Rantaro replied.
My eyes widened in shock. If that were actually the case, then Kaede couldn't have tried to kill Rantaro. If her plan *failed*, then Kaede shouldn't have been suspected.
"The mastermind probably did it..." I muttered, "they tried to frame Kaede..."
"I honestly wouldn't be surprised. I'm a pretty big thorn in their side," Rantaro mused.
"This is a big deal Rantaro. If you saw a shot put ball fall from the bookshelf, that means Kaede's plan failed," I explained, "and I'm guessing someone snuck behind you and used their own shot put ball. That person would be the mastermind. They knew about Kaede and Shuichi's trap."
I was honestly started to piece every everything together. No wonder Rantaro didn't want to say anything.
"I think it's best to keep this secret until we find out who the mastermind is, yeah?" Rantaro asked.
"Yeah... for now... we need to find something here that could help us find out what's going on," I replied.
"I'll see if there is a book on it," Rantaro replied.
I nodded at him and wished him luck. I went to a bookcase different from Rantaro and started skimming though the musty books. Most of these books were none I've heard of. Some of them had to do with myths and legends. It would be a paradise for Kiyo here. Some time passed by while I was looking through the books.
"Hey (y/n), I think we should check this book out," Rantaro called out.
    "Alright, I'm coming," I replied.
I walked over to Rantaro who had a book with many symbols on it. There was no name on the book, but the look of the book was enough.
"I skimmed through the first few pages of the book. It's a book about rare things humans can possess. I think something in here can be the case. I know it's weird, but let's see what we can find," Rantaro explained.
    "Alright, read it," I replied.
Rantaro and I started to read the book. The book contained myths and legends of superhuman abilities that could be considered powers nonetheless. There was one about the ability to possess control of the elements. There was another one about the ability to time travel.
    "This is ridiculous," I muttered.
"I wouldn't be to sure about that," Rantaro replied.
    "Why is that?" I asked.
Rantaro pointed to a page in the book. The title of the passage was called "Tears of Life".
The passage explained a legendary gene that was passed down to one person, once every century. This gene gave said person healing tears that could heal or revive anyone that was intact. Basically they couldn't revive someone who had limbs cut off or was a skeleton.
My eyes continued to scan the page seeing more information about this. The person with this ability couldn't use it on themselves. I had no idea why said person couldn't use it on themselves, but it's what the book said. The gene also gave an ability to contact the dead in a way. What did that have to do with this gene though?
The book passage read that the tear would have to have contact with the person that was to be revived. This gene was a bit weird, and it had so much detail.
I looked over at Rantaro after I read the passage. I sighed lightly.
"Of all the things to choose in that book, why that specific thing?" I asked.
"Well you cry a lot," Rantaro replied, "I mean you probably cried when I died, right?"
"Well yeah, but this gene can't be real, and even if it was, I wouldn't have it," I replied, chuckling nervously.
"Never say never, (y/n)..." Rantaro said with a sigh, "we should test it."
"No, no no! No we shouldn't. You aren't going to hurt yourself!" I exclaimed in protest.
"It'll be one paper cut. I'll be fine," Rantaro replied.
"Rantaro, you don't understand! I don't have this made up gene! Please stop trying to prove me wrong all the time!" I shouted.
"I can't stop proving you wrong. You need to have more faith in yourself. I'll be fine," Rantaro told me.
"I don't have it! This is one person *every* 100 years! Someone like me would never have it!" I exclaimed, tears starting to appear in my eyes.
Rantaro just smiled kindly at me, rubbing his finger on the edge of a page. Rantaro winced slightly as the paper slightly sliced through his skin, causing a little bit blood to surface from the wound.
After he cut his finger on the page, he wiped the tears from my eye in a soothing manner. He then dropped it onto the paper cut and waited.
Rantaro and I watched the paper cut for a few seconds before something surprising happened. The paper cut started to fade away, soon disappearing with no trace that it was there. I was shocked about it and Rantaro didn't seem surprised.
"N-No.... this isn't real... I'm dreaming...." I muttered in shock.
"I told you (y/n). You're special, very special. You can stop killings with this, and win the game," Rantaro explained, "try to me more confident in yourself. You... saved my life. I will always be thankful for that. You gave me another chance. Thank you so much."
I suddenly felt like I was a bit happier about the situation. I was able to save Rantaro from the mastermind's plan. We both agreed to keep it from everyone until the mastermind is revealed. We should have to tell the people we save when it happens. They would obviously have questions.
Rantaro and I walked back to the dormitory to finally go to sleep after a huge day. A murder that almost succeeded, the trial, even finding out I have a rare gene. It tired me out. After entering my dorm, I went to sleep with all of these thoughts filling my mind.

-insert story title-

You guys are going to love me for this, but I decided to release this one today. I knew you all would have a lot of questions about what made Rantaro live. This is your answer. I spent a lot of time developing this rare gene for this story, so I hope you all like it.
Now you all know the reasoning behind the name of the story. This is another thing the winners of previous prompts and fanart competitions won.

Anyway, the due date for the month long fanart competition goes until June 3rd. I forgot to mention this last time I'm sorry.
I hope you all enjoyed the early chapter release.
Btw thank you for TheMeltingGirl for making this image that I used for the caption image. I love it a lot. Anyway, this is the update this week. Hope it was worth the wait! Ciao!-CRUSIFIXdroid
