Under The Oak Tree

Walking down the dully lit street, was a tall, stoic skeleton with two large cracks on his skull. One was above his right socket, and the other below his left. He seemed to be smoking a cigarette and paying little to no attention to where he was going on this frigid night. The skeleton had just left Grillby's bar and grill, but didn't head towards his normal destination. Instead, he was heading towards a large oak tree a few blocks away. The tree could be seen from far away, so everyone could see it's beauty. It was autumn here on the surface, so all the trees had turned gorgeous shades of yellow, orange, and red, but the oak hadn't lost a single leaf yet. No, it had only changed it's colors and stood large and proud on the hilltop.

The skeleton, known as G, was about to reach his destination, when he saw someone sitting under 'his' tree. The figure was not moving, nor did it seem to be human in it's shape. He walked over to the mysterious figure, only to find a familiar red substance coating the grass surrounding it. Blood. The crimson fluid was staining the grass all around the smaller body; though it was curled up in a ball, he could tell it was smaller than himself. He then, very skillfully, avoided the blood and tried to move the figure.

G moves the mysterious figure, only for it to flip over, revealing a young girl. The girl had medium length hair, but since it was dark out, it made it hard to tell what color it was. G, noticing how she looked slightly human, wanted to leave her there, but didn't want to take the chance of her being a monster and not actually human. He decided to pick the girl up gently and take her to a hospital, so she could get checked out and fixed up if she was brutally injured. G knew this was going to be the most likely case, but still had the thought in his mind that she may not be the one losing all of that blood, because no human has that much blood in their body and still survive after losing it.

G quickly teleported outside of the local hospital, the one that just so happened to have mainly monster doctors, and looked down at the girl. Since there was more light in this area than under the oak tree, G was able to get a better look at the unconscious girl in his arms. She had medium brown hair, though it seemed to look slightly red under the lights, and many freckles covering her face. She looked human, very human, and this made G contemplate leaving her at the hospital, but not letting anyone see him drop her off. He then felt his hands become soaked it something, though he knew it was blood, he checked to see the crimson red liquid cover his hands, like paint dripping onto a blank canvas.

"Sir? Are you o- Oh My Goodness! What happened?! Quickly, bring her in!" Someone shouted. The man had two fox ears and a long red tail, but his hair was black and eyes were brown, making him look slightly odd compared to most of his species. G just looked at the man and followed him inside. G stayed silent, even though the man asked him what happened. "Here. Please lay her down here. I'm going to start helping her, but I'm going to need you to get some more doctors and nurses in here. Could you so kindly do that for me?"

G nodded and left the room, after he set the bloody girl down, and went to go find more doctors and nurses. "Hello Sir. How may I help you?" A mouse like monster asked. "Can you get some more doctors in room 626? There's a girl in there nearing her death. Someone is in there helping, but he can't do this alone." The mouse monster gasped in shock and nodded her head. "Oh my! Of course I will!" The lady then used the loudspeaker to get two specific doctors into the girl's room. "Doctor Mallard and Doctor James, please head immediately to room 626 for an emergency patient. Please send Dr. Mallard and Dr. James to room 626. This is an emergency patient. May I also have three nurses in the same location?"

G looks around him, but sees no one moving. "Are you sure they will be able to save her? They don't seem to be coming anytime soon." The mouse lady, named Lilian by her name tag, shook her head. "They should be getting in there now. They are professionals and both have positions located near her room." "Oh." Was G's only response. G then thanks Lilian and went back to the mystery girl's room, but can't enter because it had been locked. He could hear the doctors talking, yet he couldn't understand them. They sounded like they were mumbling, but in all actuality they were talking quite loudly behind the giant wooden doors.

G shrugged and went to leave, but something tugged at his soul to stay. He rolled his eye lights and mumbled about how Frisk had rubbed off on him to much. He sat in the chair next to the room. He then pulled out his phone and saw that he had missed two calls from his brother and one from Frisk. Dialing the number quickly, G called his brother, Papyrus. After ringing for not even a full ten seconds, Papyrus picks up the phone. "SANS! WHERE ARE YOU?! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE HOME BY NOW!" G chuckled at his brother's slight protectiveness. "I'll be home soon and explain everything then. Was that the reason why you called me three times?" G heard a loud "yes" come from his brother and chuckled once more. "Well I'm alright and will be home soon. Talk to ya later Paps." Papyrus said his goodbyes and they both hung up. G then decided to call Frisk.

Inside the girl's hospital room, the doctors were working to sew her large gash closed. The gash was long and straight, but seemed to be serrated. The doctors, before even operating on her, had concluded she was attacked by an armed assailant. Said assailant was wielding a long, serrated knife and was also not new to the scene of murder. Their cuts were precise and expertly executed, but some how, through some sort of miracle, the young lady is still alive. "She mustn't be completely human if she survived such life threatening wounds, but there isn't a trace of dust along her wounds." Doctor James, a young, female doctor, spoke in fascination and confusion. Doctor Mallard, a short, older gentleman with medium grey hair and angel wings, nodded at this information. "She's very lucky to be still breathing. If I'm to be frank with you, I would have called her a lost cause as soon as I saw her. Thank you for your help." Doctor James nodded her head, but came up with an idea. "Maybe we should check her soul? There may be further damage there that needs to be mended."

Doctor Mallard began to grab the proper equipment to help heal a broken, or damaged soul, incase the young girl needed the operation. "If we find it is damaged, I will need you to immediately place the needle into her soul, understood?" Doctor Mallard told one of the nurses. The nurse nodded their head and went over to the machine. Doctor James began to instruct the nurse on where to place the needle into the soul for both humans and monsters. Once they were finished, Doctor Mallard used his magic to summon the young girl's soul.

Outside the room, G was just finishing up his call with Frisk. "I'm serious kid. There is no reason for you to bring everyone out her. I just brought the girl here to get her fixed up and then go. No, I don't know this girl. I already told you that! No! Don't you dare-!" Then the call ended. G huffed in anger. "I swear if they show up with everyone here, I'm gonna punch a wall." G then heard an all to familiar voice in his head. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." G rolled his eye lights once more. "Not now Dad. Sort of pissed off at the moment." The voice chuckled distortedly and began to speak once more. "I know you are, but you need to listen. That girl... she's not normal. Something is very strange about her. She's very close to dying, but I don't believe she'll die yet." G listened to his father, Gaster, intently, making sure he understood what he was being told. "I knew something was up with her, but what? But before you answer that question; How is she still alive?! There is no way! She had basically lost all of her blood at the tree!" Gaster didn't reply, but instead hummed. G was getting quickly annoyed. "She looked, and even felt dead in my arms!" "Then why did you still carry a 'dead' human to this hospital?"

G immediately shut up. Why did he bring her here? Was he trying to be nice, or was he doing it because that's what Frisk would have done? "I-I don't know." G answered honestly. He truly had no clue why he had brought her there. He knew he originally did it because she 'could have been a monster', but he knew she wasn't. He just kept saying that to himself to make what he was doing more 'appropriate' for himself. What if one of his friends came and saw him carrying a bleeding human into a hospital? He would have been questioned about him going soft, or why he was caring about a human. "Maybe Frisk truly is changing your soul for the kinder one you once had." G growled at Gaster. "Don't talk about what I 'used to be', cause he isn't me. He isn't coming back no matter how badly you want him to. You're stuck with me and I'm stuck with you." G then shut out Gaster from his mind.

"Why won't...?" Doctor Mallard mumbled. "What's wrong Doctor Mallard?" Doctor James questioned. "I cannot summon her soul. It won't budge." Neither of them knew what to think, or do. They had never had a patient who's soul couldn't be summoned. It had always been simple and quick. "What? How?" Doctor Mallard attempted to summon the girl's soul once more, but failed once more. "It truly won't move." Doctor James then tried and got the same results. "Well maybe this is her way of telling us to leave it alone, even though she is unconscious." A nurse pipped up. The doctors both looked at each other, then the patient, and then to the nurse and nodded. "That's the only other thing I can think of." Doctor Mallard said, still slightly bewildered by his failed attempts at summoning the girl's soul.

"Thank you all for your help. Doctor James and I have it from here. You may return to your normal routines now." The nurses nodded and left as they were told. "Now what do we do? Her vitals are normal and her IV seems to be doing well." Doctor Mallard then looked at the young girl and then to Doctor James. "We'll inform her 'hero', if he is still here, about her condition. From there we will monitor her and check up on her often." Doctor James nodded and opened the door, allowing Doctor Mallard to exit first. Doctor Mallard then, after exiting the room, begin to walk towards phone and call someone. Doctor James tapped G on the shoulder, causing him to flinch. "Sorry to startle you, but we just finished up. She's ok for right now. Her bleeding has been stopped and stitched up, as well as her vital signs being returned to normal. Thank you for bringing her in, or else she would have died." G just looked shocked, but nodded his head. "Y-yeah. No problem." "Aaah, you must be the young girl's hero. I'm Doctor Mallard. I, as well as Doctor James here, were the ones who helped her. Nice to meet you." Doctor Mallard then put his hand out for G to shake. G took it and shook it. "Name's G, and it's nice to meet you as well. I'm glad to hear she's alright."

"Yes, but I have a question for you. Do you know what happened to her?"
