Chapter 1

(Yes, the first 'chapter' was actually the prologue.)

"I don't know. I come strolling down the street towards the giant oak tree and I see some figure laying on the ground. I walk over and see blood everywhere and her body laying motionlessly on the ground." Doctor Mallard nodded and motioned for G to continue his story. "After seeing all the blood, I check to see if she is still alive or not. She felt dead in my arms, but I decided to take her here incase she was still alive." G then looks at his hands. They were covered in dried blood, which he had surprisingly forgot to go and wash off. "Thank you for being so kind. Would you like to go wash up?" G nodded and left for the restroom.

Once he walked into the restroom, he immediately walked over to the sinks and began to wash of the blood. 'Why didn't I wash this off when I first got here? Was I really that worried about getting this human girl here?' He asked himself, trying to decipher his past actions. "Maybe you don't truly hate all humans." "Go away, Dad." G then checked his hands thoroughly for any blood he had missed. "I was saying a possibility. You may have done it because it would have looked like you killed her to a passerby." "Yeah, that's why I did it. I did it to make sure I was innocent." There was an eeriy silence from Gaster. "That is a lie and you know it. You only said that because I had given you the idea." It was now G's turn to be silent.

"Alright, fine. I wanted to make sure she didn't die. I don't know why I had this sudden urge, but I really didn't want a dead body underneath my tree." If Gaster's body was as it used to be, he would be rolling his eye lights. "G, saving a life isn't going soft. That's being a hero." "Well I just saved a HUMAN'S life, so I don't feel all that heroic right now." G went to exit the building, but Lilian stopped him. "Mr. G? The girl you brought in is starting to wake up." G then begrudgingly followed Lilian back to the girl's room. "Hello dear, I'm here with the man who saved you." The girl, still attempting to fully awaken, starts to turn over towards them. "You said she was awake." Lilian shakes her head. "No sir, I said she was waking up. I said no such thing about her being awake." G then grumbles to himself and sits, waiting impatiently for the girl to open her eyes.

"St... St... -op... stop... stop it hurts..." G hears as he begins to wake up. 'I must have dozed off waiting for this human to finally wake up.' "Stop!" He hears a voice shriek as his eye light bursts into a flame of golden yellow. His head then quickly flies up, as well as his body, causing him to stumble slightly and become dizzy from the sudden movement. Once he regains his stability, he turns his attention towards the sweaty girl. "She's having a nightmare, G. Wake her up, but please be careful." "She's to weak to hurt me, Dad." "That's not what I'm worried about, G. She is frightened and may hurt herself if you wake her up to harshly." G, heeding some of his Father's advice, begins to talk to her. "Wake up. Come on and get up." He shakes her slightly, in another attempt to wake her. "Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop." She says, crying in her sleep. Her hands, clutched to both sides of her head, and her legs held tightly together, causing her to be in a full fetal position. "G, stop. Let me try something." G then feels his father's presence leave.

"Child, what is wrong?" Gaster asks the girl, but the only response he gets is silence. Not a calm silence either, but one of fear and pain. He could tell by the emotions flooding the poor girl's mind. "Child, I will not harm you. I am here to help. What is the matter?" He then sees a representation of the girl appear, but instead of standing she is sitting with her knees tucked closely to herself. "Stop. Stop. Stop." She mumbles. 'She didn't hear me.' Gaster thinks to himself. He then moves towards her, careful not to frighten her anymore than she already is. "Hello child, are you alright?" Gaster questioned, gently laying his hand upon her shoulder. Her head and body quickly turn to look at him. "Wh-who are you?" She asks in a broken voice. He could tell she hadn't used it properly in quite a while. "I am W.D. Gaster. What is your name, dear?" The girl looks away from him for a moment. "..." She mumbles incoherently. "What was that, dear?" "Caroline. My name is Caroline." Gaster smiles at her. "What a lovely name. Now, may I ask why you were so frightened moments ago?" "Oh. I-it was a memory." She says, trying to hold back tears. "He hurt me and tried to kill me." Gaster didn't seem shocked, but he did seem to feel empathetic for her. "Who hurt you?" Before Gaster could get Caroline to answer, he was forced out of her mind.

"Finally, she's waking up." G could then feel his father's presence in his mind once more. "What'd you do?" "All I did was talk to her. She answered my questions, but I didn't get the one question I wanted, answered." G nodded. "What did you find out, though?" Gaster then told G everything that happened, but he left out the girl's name. G nodded at this information and slowly stood, walking towards the now awakening girl. "Heya Doll, it's time to get up." Her eyes snapped completely opened and a look of fear seemed to creep it's way into her face. "Nice going, son. You scared her without even trying." G then forced his father out of his mind. "Hey, hey, hey. Calm down. I'm not gonna hurt ya." The girl seems to calm down, but she still looks skittish. "What's your name?" The girl shakes her head in a no like manner. "What do ya mean, 'no'?" She then points to her head and points back at him.

'She's mistaking me for Gaster... Oh joy.' G thinks to himself. "I'm not Gaster, Doll. I'm G, his son." The girl then looks at him in shock. "Oh." G rolls his eye light. "Now, will ya tell me your name? I've already told you mine." The girl then nods. "C-Caroline." G had never heard so much brokenness in one voice before. "Caroline, huh? It's got a nice ring to it." G says, smirking to himself.

"Can you tell me what happened to you?"
