Chapter 10
The week of suspension was boring to say the least. The most interesting part was watching Damien workout in his backyard like a creep. At night he would leave to go to a party or a gathering that I would never be seen at. I mean I would be allowed if I wanted too; however, partying isn't my cup to tea. No, I didn't get grounded either because Silas told our parents everything. Even the details of him beating a student to a bloody pulp. My parents weren't happy how I was suspended but my brother and the other students weren't. I really didn't care because I got to sleep in instead of waking up before the roosters yell their noises every morning.
Tomorrow though, I'm dreading it because tomorrow is Monday. Monday means it's back to school. Back to school means waking up before the damned roosters. I am not a morning gal. I curl up in my hammock and watch the meteor showers that are happening.
"Beautiful isn't it?"
I jump from the sudden voice and flip out of my hammock. My rear end nails the cold grass with a surprisingly loud thud.
"For fuck sake dude!" I curse under my breath.
"Sorry. I brought out a blanket; considering you didn't bring on." Damien says as his hand with the blanket is over our fence. My face is in that of a questionable look.
"Look, I've seen you out here a lot. You admire the night sky. But this time you forgot your blanket and knowing you; you'll be out here for a while. So take this blanket so you won't freeze to death." He says as he waves the said blanket.
"Thanks." I mumble out as I grab the blanket from his hands.
I watch as he takes off out of his driveway and down the road. I wrap the blanket around me and get back into my hammock. For hours I sway in my hammock as I watch the pale moon shine in a shimmery silver glow, the stars litter the sky like a glittery blanket, and meteors dance into the night. At some point in time, I had fallen asleep like I usually do. However, this time was different. Normally I wake up outside curled into my hammock in the dewy mornings. This time I stir from the voice near me.
"Dude, she's passed out in her hammock."
"..."
"Come down here and grab her."
"..."
"No Silas I won't pick her up and take her inside."
"..."
"That's just creepy. What if she wakes up?"
"Just pick her up and carry her in." Silas's voice echoes from his now opened window.
"I swear if she wakes up and punches me again; I'm going to strangle you." Damien mumbles under his breath.
I close my eyes and pretend I am still asleep. In a swift motion, I'm lifted out of the safety of my hammock and into a set of strong arms. I hear our back porch's wooden steps creak from his footsteps. Our back door has that old whining noise when you open or close it; this is how I know he's enter my home. Our stairs has a small groan each time you step on them. I can hear shuffling of his footsteps on the carpeted hallway. My door opens with its own creak like it's in need of dw40. This is how I know he's in my safe haven, my sanctuary, my solace, my bloody bedroom. Instead of jumping out of his arms in a panic; I stay silent and control my breathing. I can hear my sheets crinkle and move. I feel the coldness of my sheet against my skin and my blanket is now laying across my exposed skin. I can hear his feet shuffle against my floor but it stops abruptly. Peeking my left eye open, I can see his silhouette in my darkened room.
He hasn't left.
"Even though I have this captivating pull towards. Even though you're this sweet and friendly girl. Even against my better judgment... I am struggling to keep my distance. If you can hear me in your slumber, please Emery stay away from me. Don't come close and don't wish to be closer to me. I am dangerous and will hurt you in the end. You're too far gentle for my cruel and aggressive world. Please take care of yourself and punch every bully who tries to fuck with you. If not, I'll slaughter each and every one of them. Sweet Willow, take care."
Shuffling of his shoes against my floor is heard again. As my door closes, I swear I heard him mutter something.
"She's my own damn personal kryptonite. I swear she'll be the end of me."
I have to fight myself from chasing him down, wanting answers to my unasked questions. My brother's hushed voice is heard in the hallway.
"Thanks man. I couldn't come down because I was in a predicament."
"A predicament?" Damien taunts, I swear I can just see him smirking.
"A shower you asshole." Silas grunts.
What is he dangerous? What does he mean I'm his kryptonite? And what the hell is he talking about I'll be the end of him?
Damien Black I have some questions that need answers. Before I could chase down my Superman, I'm drifting off to Smallville.
