Chapter 1:

It all started when Damien Black moved to this town the first week of last Summer. Everyone was so fascinated by him. I was more intrigued by him. He's the type of guy your parents warned you about. The bad boy reputation that your parents fear you would go for. The one who skips class, smokes, drinks, parties, causes chaos, and cusses like a sailor. Yeah, that's Damien for you. All the girls around here have changed their appearances or have done something to try to get this guy's attention. Except me. I have been watching Damien from the distance and the safety of my bedroom window.

What?

He's my neighbor.

This bad boy exterior makes it seem like it's a façade. There's something under that exterior of his and I want to know what it is..... From a distance. Damien, himself, scares me. Like to the extent I would probably pass out or turn for the hills and end up face planting a tree. Maybe even flipping over a bush. He's scary but his scary intrigues my interest. There's just something about him that attracts my eyes to his direction. Maybe it's his appearance that's just dark and mysterious. Maybe it's his scary aura. Maybe it's his 'I don't give a snots ass' attitude. Maybe it's just Damien himself.

You're probably wondering who I am. Let me introduce myself, I'm Emery Willow Brooks and this is my story. Damien would probably tell the story in one paragraph; which is why I'm telling it instead.

I'm a Senior at Valley Groves High School. It's in a small town called..... You guessed it Valley Groves. We have at least a population of four hundred people in this town. I'm sixteen and what you would call a nerd. The kind of nerd who would be caught in a coffee shop with a latte and a book in her hand. Books simply intrigue my interest. I'm also the girl with very few friends and has the typical bullies. I fall behind in my sister's Allie's shadows. She's the cheerleading captain. She's always needing attention from anyone. If you have eyes and or an eye in some cases; your attention should be on her. That's Allie for you. Our appearances is a complete one eighty. She's all preppy and cheery with her pinks and purples. She's always loud and chaotic. She's always seen at parties and drinking. We were gifted a beautiful car to share. She drives it all the time. I walk instead. She's your typical popular 'It' girl.

I have an older brother, Silas. He's my protector you could say. He's like my best friend. If he gets drafted into the NFL, I will be his biggest supporter and his biggest fan. He's my rock and my shoulder when I need him. His popularity hasn't gotten to his brain cells yet. He doesn't treat me differently like Allie does. He's the apple in our parents eyes. He's the town's golden boy. The one who will go far in this world. He can play any sport out there but football is his passion. Football is his talent. He's not your typical jock. He's smart. Wait no, he's intelligent. He doesn't let a soul pick on anyone around him. He's the type of guy who will walk an elderly person across the street, block traffic for a funeral, make time to play with the orphan kids, and the one who will fight for a good cause. He's like a role model to most. He gets along with just about anyone. And everyone wants to be in his circle. That's your typical Silas for you.

All three of us are Seniors. If you have guessed triples; you're wrong. Silas is a year older than Allie and I. He was born in October; when he was only two months old our parents got pregnant with Allie and I. We were born in September the following year. He's technically only 11 months older then us. Since his birthday fell in October and not September; he didn't start with children his age. You must be born before September 20th to start kindergarten. Hence why we're all in the same grade and also why everyone thinks we're triples. But that's not the case. Allie and I cut it close; we were born September 19th.

I also have a younger brother, Denver, he's five years old. He has Down Syndrome. He's funny and hyper. He's literally the light to my very dark world. Allie doesn't pay much attention to him. She's thinks he's a burden. However, Silas and I, we protect Denver whenever it's needed. Especially with Allie. Her words can be vicious and her words can cut through Denver's soft and beautiful soul. His favorite things to do are paint or draw, play tag or hiding seek, and he loves to swim. He might have Down Syndrome but he's smart and he's bright. He's top of his special class. When the teachers put the grades together with students in normal classes; he's still on top. Even with Downs, he is intelligent. He loves to play football with Silas. That's probably his favorite thing in the world to do. At bedtime, I have to be the one to read him a story. His favorite is Princess and The Frog. To him that's his book. So every night we read a few chapters and he ends up falling asleep. If I don't read him a story; I have to sing a song to get him to sleep. His favorite is Landslide by Fleetwood Mac or Perfect by Ed Sheeran. You can usually guess the mood he's in on which one to do. That's your typical Denver for you.

Over Summer Break I promised myself that I would stand up to bullies. I wouldn't let anyone pick on me anymore. Wouldn't let anyone harass me. Nor would I let anyone shove me around. I would stand up to my bullies and for once in my life I will punch the first person who tries to bully me this year. Now if I can stick to this promise, I'll be amazed.

Today is the first day of Junior Year. The first day everyone will see a different Emery. The first day I will probably throw a punch. I just hope I do it as Silas has taught me. The first day of my new appearance. I switched my baggy clothes for leggings, joggers, fitted t-shirts, jumpers, and a few dark pieces. My long wavy light brown hair is now shoulder length wavy chocolate brown hair. I still wear my glasses but I also have contacts. My icy cold blue eyes still shine under my tanned freckled face. In a way with my hair being a dark chocolate brown; it reminds me of Silas and his hair. Except he's has bright green eyes. I would rather favor Silas than my own twin. She's got light brown hair with some blonde pieces. She's got almost the same eye shade as me. However, she's not as tan as me and has more freckles than I do. Like I said I live in her shadows but not this year. This year I'm coming out of her shadow and making a name for myself. I am Emery Willow Brooks and this is going to be my year. Everyone will know me for me or get punched in the face when they try to bully me. Either one works because it doesn't matter which one they remember me for. It just won't be for the girl who always gets bullied.

I quickly throw on my black leggings and my oversized orange Naruto tee shirt. I slip my feet into my black toms. I run my fingers through my hair and pull it into a messy half up half down top knot. Before I completely exit my room; I grab my small Itachi backpack purse from my desk. My Itachi bag has my pens in it. As I make my way into the kitchen; I grab an orange from the basket and my binder from the kitchen counter. Silas is already at school because he has to go to his football meeting before school. So the only reason I could be thundering footsteps coming doing the hall is one reason.

Allie.

As I walk to our front door, she comes barreling pass me and out the door. Slamming it in my face in the process.

Some things never change.

"Sorry Eme, I can't take you to school. I have to pick up the girls." She yells from the car window.

She quickly backs out of the driveway and squeals tires going down the road. It's not like I knew she'd let me ride with her to school anyways. It's nothing new to me. School is honestly only a ten minute walk from our house. So, walking to school doesn't exactly kill me. Unless it's winter time. Winter time is the worst time to even walk to school. Normally I catch a ride with Silas if he hasn't left for school. Seeing as it's his biggest football year for him; I doubt I'll catch him in the mornings to get a ride to school. Summers are usually hot here; while our winters are abnormally freezing. We get snow almost every winter.

I finally have arrived at school. I pull the school doors open with a hard tug. This causes the door to ricochet off the brick wall of the school. I walk to my locker, the same locker I've had all through high school. I toss my binder inside my locker because I know I won't need it for my first two periods. I push my locker with a little too much force because she slams shut and heads from other student bodies are now staring at me. I don't let the stares bother me like it used to. Before I can even move away from my locker; there's a tug on my hair. Not a extremely painful tug but a hard enough tug that I don't like. As soon as the hand who has just tugged on my hair, lets go. I already have my hand balled up into a fist. As I turn around to my rude intruder; I swing my left fist with all my might into their face. The once loud rowdy halls have now become silent. You can't even hear a cricket chirp in the halls. I glance up to see who I had just punched. My icy blue eyes are met with honey brown eyes. Eyes I recognize. Now I see why the halls have become so quiet. I now see why all the attention is now on us.

Damien Black.

It all started when I punched Damien Black in the face.

He's going to slaughter me up and feed me to some wild hogs.

Freaking hell.
