a cave hiding gold

"Yes, John, what does it say, huh?", Singh's voice appears behind us so we turn around quickly to face him holding a gun in our direction, "Tell us all. You're encircled. You better throw your gun away. Cautious, Mr. Routledge." Great, one more time to be in hell of a danger. At least it's not like anyone's waiting for me at home.

"Right, Ward will warn us with a flare", Big John huffs frustrated. "Hey, what did you do to my dad?", Sarah yells. "I'm here, Sarah. I'm fine!", Ward calls for her as if that'd solve all of our problems. Ah, great. He's made a deal with devil. Fits right perfectly. Why did we even let him fly here with us? We just don't learn from the past. Stupid compassion.

"Dad, tell him!" When it's clear that he wouldn't do it, Sarah and I exchange a look and attack two of Singhs men. I manage to push him to the ground and we fight for his gun when I suddenly hear a shot behind me. Ward killed the man who was attacked by Sarah. We all react quickly taking a gun and try to save us.

"Iz, give me your gun", Sarah orders me as Ward tries to make her come with him and approaches us. She's pointing it right at him. Wow, that happens often.. his own kids pointing a gun at him. "Don't come closer", Sarah warns him holding up the gun at him, "Dad, stay away." "Put the gun away, Sarah, you-" Okay, yes, she'd shoot. She shoots right next to him. "You belong to us now, little one", Big John finally admits, "Come on, I'll cover you."

"They're right behind us, we need to hurry", John B says as we're walking and walking, faster and faster. It's already the next morning. "We need to go to north-west, that's the home the text was speaking of", Big John guides us. As soon as John B hurries more, Big John asks for a one minute break.

"What does that mean, you need a minute? Listen, we need to go." "You go, I'll come after", Big John tells us, "I need to take a breath." "Sarah, wait a moment, please", I ask her as she's already further. She's quite fast for someone who doesn't hike but that's probably the adrenaline in all of us especially after Ward's next betrayal.

"Big John, we need to go", I tell him softer than before and walk up to him to see what's wrong. "It's just my legs. I need a second." "Dad, what the hell was that in Solana supposed to be?", John B uses the moment to confront him, "Would you really let them shoot us?" Big John looks sad for a moment. "Kids, you need to understand.. Sarah and Iz, you've just been a second quicker." "It's always about the treasure, right?"

"Come on, guys, we need to go", I interrupt their father and son session but when Big John stands up we see the reason for his break, "Shit, are you okay?" "It's fine, just a small wound." "Do you think-" "Sure, come on, we need to go", Big John decides as he claps our shoulders. I would send him back but he'd probably rather die than to leave the treasure behind.

"What the hell is this?", we gasp when we arrive at Sarah's position and it seems like she's solved the puzzle. "A cave. El Dorado's in a cave", John B realizes, "Doesn't look like the city of gold." "It's a huge cave. Let's separate", Big John suggests holding my shoulder, "You and I, Bell. There needs to be a way somewhere."

Even when we're not sure where to go, Big John keeps on telling us to go further. He's motivating us on what seems like the last road. "Hey, take a break", I tell Big John worriedly when he holds his wound, "Come on, let's get back to the village. John B and Sarah-" "No, Bell, we're so close-"

"Dad, Iz, come, you need to come!", John B calls us excitedly, "Sarah's found something." "We're coming", I tell him and help Big John to stand up. Holy shit, there's a hand right above the water engraves in the stones. "If someone's put so much effort into something, this has to be the way."

As soon as John B wants to start diving, Big John declines. I give Big John a worried look. It's not about not fitting through this hole, it's about not being able to swim through it. I gulp hard feeling that something bad might happen to him but as long as he doesn't decide for leaving, I'll stay right beside him.

"You're going to make it", I assure Sarah and John B as I hold Sarah's hand for a moment, "You've made it before." "Are you really okay?", John B asks his dad but Big John quickly nods. "Bell is with me. She's a better shooter than me." "I'm here", I confirm hugging both of them quickly, "Come back soon and safely."

"Come, we need to hide", Big John warns me as we're getting out of the water, "Singh is on his way. He could be here any second." "They're going to make it, John, and you too", I whisper as soon as we're hiding.

Big John lays his hand on my shoulder but stays quiet. Luckily because a few seconds later we hear Singh again. Can this man just drop dead? I don't want anyone to die but if I had to chose someone, he'd be on top of my list.

"I'm going to find you! You can't be far away." "Mr. Routledge! John!" "Where are you? I know that you're here somewhere." "Stay quiet, young Routledge", Singh warns supposedly John B and Sarah who seem to be back. Finally, this felt like an eternity.

"Took a moment to swim, huh? Get out of the water and raise your hands. Both of you. Now!" "You made it boy", Big John whispers to himself when we hear that they've found the gold. Holy shit. All this time, the treasure hunt, the Crain's house, the murders, the pain and panic.. it was worth it. Big John was right. The treasure exists.

"I knew it's right to keep you alive, John", Singh calls, "Sad ending for your son that he won't have a lot of time to be happy about it. You've got three seconds left before I shoot. One, two-" "We're here, Singh", we call loudly hurrying to them. Holy shit, that's a huge piece of gold. How much of this could be left?

"If you kill us, I'm going to let this explode. Drop the gun." Instead of dropping it, he's holding it against John B's chest now. "No, if my son dies, we all die", Ward warns him threatening. I take a look at Sarah. We're both frightened but I feel like we're.. used to it, not surprised.. whatever it is.

We just accept our fate. Big John looks like he's being persuaded by Singh's words asking the man to join him but Big John would never.. would he? No, John B means more to him than the gold. "This one's for you, boy", Big John sighs throwing the firecracker right against where Sarah and John B went underground. "Run!" I don't look at Singh anymore, I quickly turn around and help Big John to walk as Sarah, the Routledges and I try to get out of the cave. Even when we're out, we quickly go a few more steps to make sure that we're safe for the moment.

Big John needs a break so we sit down as Sarah takes off the heavy backpack. "Is it what I think-" "It's beautiful", Sarah confirms and we all share a look with one another gasping. "Well done, kids."
