Interview

~Interview with @Winteryguy~
Hello, wonderful reader! I'm @kaitos_lost_scarf, here to bring you an interview! Asking @Winteryguy these questions and working with them was truly a pleasure.

Amongst @Winteryguy's very well-written works are "The Desolate Mansion (Fukase x Oliver fanfiction)", "Olikase One-shots", "Time Capsule (Fukase x Oliver)", and "Today Was Just Another Day".

With a cold style, the settings tie in perfectly with the character developments and such. Without further ado, let's begin the interview!

1.) What inspired you to write about Fukase and Oliver mainly?

winteryguy: Fukase and Oliver are my top 2 favorite Vocaloids. they're the ones with the most headcannons although most of them aren't fully fleshed out. They are also my only Vocaloid ship. When I first started writing about them, there weren't many fanfictions about this ship so I wanted to confirm tribute to the small but growing fandom.

2.) Your writing style is in a rather cold, Victorian state, which is quite admirable. Who/ what inspired you to write this way?

winteryguy: I've mainly drawn my inspiration from books that I enjoyed reading. The Sherlock Holmes books by Arthur Conan Doyle bring about a cold atmosphere with plentiful description to draw in the reader to the setting. The Time Machine by H.G. Wells also contains a great
narrative and describes a world that is seemingly different yet so familiar to our own.

3.) What sort of dark endings would The Desolate Mansion originally contain? Why did you decide to make the fanfiction remain lighthearted?

winterguy: Unfortunately, I lost the notes for my original plans but I will talk about what I remember. There were supposed to be multiple endings based on how Oliver chose to interact with the environment and what he does with the information he obtained as he explored the mansion. One of the endings was going to be a time loop wherein Oliver is continously sent back to the beginning of his explorations. Another ending was going to be ambiguous and have Oliver wonder whether or not he had escaped the masion. the fanfiction became what it is now currently due to time constraints and lack of confidence in my planning.

4.) What time period is your favorite to write about, and what setting is your favorite?

winteryguy: If it could be helped, I'd like to keep the time period vague in my stories.A timeless feel in stories limits modern technology but still allows the reader to immerse themselves into a fantastic world. For stories that must have a time period, I'd like to write one that takes place around the Industrial Revolution. It is a time of great advancement in society and allows the writer to come up with interesting alternative realities. As for settings, I've always been fascinated in fantasy and I hope to write one in the future.

5.) What made you decide upon Fukase's personality being somewhat cold and distant, while Oliver seems to be more lively?

winteryguy: The personalities I've decided for Fukase and Oliver were mostly derived from the fandom's reaction to the characters themselves. Many people look at Oliver and think of him as lively and cheerful despite the imperfections from being bandaged. The reactions to Fukase were split, with some thinking he's creepy while others just love him. I'd imagine that Fukase would distance himself from others based on those reactions.

6.) Where does the inspiration from your fanfictions come from?

winteryguy: It's difficult to pinpoint one source of inspiration for my fanfictions since they came from many different places. Some of them are ideas that just randomly come to mind. Some of them are things based off events that happened in my life. There are also some based on other books I've read.

7.) What is your favorite age to make Oliver and Fukase be?
I've always preferred Oliver's and Fukase's ages to he around 18-24. Part of this reason is because I'm not young adult myself so it's easier to write about this age range. I also feel that the young adult age range allows for them to have a more realistic sense of freedom than teenagers would have while not having as many responsibilities as an older adult.

That marks the end of our interview! Thank you so much @Winteryguy for allowing me to interview you, as it was very interesting to learn about how you came up with such mysterious settings and such. I thank you for your time and dedication to your fanfictions!

As for you readers, thank you for taking the time for reading this. I hope you have a wonderful day!
