So Miku to a Kyrpton Vocaloid that is VERY popular. Many people who claim they're Vocaloid fans often ONLY know her. She is very widely spread and if you haven't heard of her then you must've been living under a rock. Who is she? Why is she so popular? Well, let's discuss it!
I've never understood why Miku is so popular. Okay, so I get that maybe, 'SHE SOUNDS SO GOOD' and 'SHE LOOKS SO PRETTY'; however, the other Vocaloids also sound just as good or better and they look decent enough so why aren't they well known? Yes, someone has to be top dog, but why Miku? Some people argue that it's because Miku is the first Vocaloid, this is false. The first Vocaloid was actually named Leon, so why isn't he popular? Admittedly his voice bank isn't the best compared to some others which may be the reason of his demise. This still doesn't mean Miku is the first best or whatever, after Leon a few other Vocaloids were released before Miku came along. Miku's voice bank isn't very good either, the pitch is too much and can even be describe as obnoxious. Her character look is cliche and boring and her typical 'persona' in most songs allow her to play damsel or corrupted soul. *Cough* Mary Sue *Cough*
Maybe she's popular because of her songs. Miku has A LOT of songs composed by amazing composers. The plot line to most of these songs are beautifully written and absolutely touching- but then Miku sings it. There may be some people out there who enjoy listening to her voice but her frequency, on loop, for that many songs, it's not okay. Often her songs sound MUCH better when covered by other Vocaloids so it's difficult to understand why so many composers would use her vocals. In fact, Miku also has been used to sing the songs of other Vocaloids. Lately, however, a change is starting to happen and we're beginning to see more of GUMI and Luo Tianyi instead of Miku which is AWESOME!
Hopefully 2017 will be a turn around for the Vocaloid community and more love and appreciation will finally be given to the other wonderful characters and idols. Miku will stop stealing songs and being overused. Perhaps we'll get to see a little less of this cliche Mary Sue.
