I woke up to the rays of sunlight poking through my eyelids and the smell of the waves that were currently crashing against whatever I was on.
Before I opened my eyes, all the memories started coming back. I kept my eyes closed, recalling everything, hoping it to stay a memory. Not wanting to face the reality that those memories were the reality, I refused to open my eyes; maybe they could stay memories. But I knew I could not fight it forever.
A/n anyone do that sometimes
Like maybe by keeping your eyes closed you can make it Saturday and not Friday
Reluctantly I opened my eyes and rubbed off the things that had accumulated during my sleep. I rubbed my hand just above my knees where my shorts were supposed to reach, but my hand touched dry skin. I looked down and noticed myself. For the first time in days I realized what I looked like. My clothes were ragged and torn, most of it probably from last night. My skin was dark and dry.
I noticed my surroundings. I was in a room with a window with one of the walls made of glass to have a view of the ocean. I got up and walked out of the room.
The boat was a bit bigger than a speedboat. There were some fishing tools here and there. There were two men having a lighthearted conversation.
I opened my mouth feebly and shut it again. Then I opened it again and tried to speak. A sore feeling filled my throats and I gave up trying to talk.
"Hush, child." said the most soothing voice to my right. "Give yourself a rest. You have had a fight with the waves in which you have barely survived," I looked right and saw it was the woman from earlier. She had dark brown hair and a confident composure, with her determined, defiant eyes staring at me; broad upright shoulders, hair that flapped free in the wind with no restraints, she looked like freedom itself.
I looked at her, and panicked by not being able to hear my voice, I furiously (A/n - that satisfaction you feel when you forgot the right word and then you found the perfect one) beckoned to my throat as I shaped my mouth producing no results.
"You must have been screaming your throat out as you were struggling for your life at the mercy of the sea yesterday, I would expect you couldn't be able to talk. But once you are ready, you must tell me everything."
I furiously nodded yes, and then tried to say 'thank you for everything' before remembering that I couldn't. So I thought for a moment and then did a kind of bow with my hands together
(😊 👏) to show my deep gratitude.
She beckoned me back to my room. Once my head hit the pillow, I slept.
