Chapter 10: Maria and Kitty

Maria

We arrive to a bustling city full of life.

Cat and I walk together through the streets, the yellow light from stores and streetlights guiding our path, close together. She grasps onto my arm, as her coat is not enough to hold off the cold.

Cat's nose, also, does not agree with the cold, and she starts having a sneezing fit. She, of course, does not have a napkin on her. I look around for anywhere that might have napkins, and a lovely little diner catches my eye.

"So, um, what should we do," Cat asks, looking at me. Her green eyes sparkle, taking my eyes away from the

"I'm pretty sure there are napkins in there," I gesture towards a vintage-looking diner, complete with a neon sign and 50's music. Cat lets out a soft 'thank you' as we walk inside.

We are enveloped in the general aesthetic of the place, and Cat's clothing and makeup fits right in. She seems to not really care about her dripping nose now, too wrapped up in her element.

"Hello, welcome to our diner! It's a pleasure to have you." The hostess says, smiling.

"Hi, we'd like a booth for two, please!" Cat grins, as the hostess crinkles her nose.

After we are seated, and Cat has wiped her nose, we begin talking.

"I'm really excited for that football game, you know, um, Alex is in it." I say, resting my cheek on my left hand. Cat blushes at his name. I just hope she can get over him.

"W-well, I'd love to support him, but, well, Betsey would be there." Cat says, a bit saddened by that fact. Cat looks down.

"Who cares if Betsey is there, just have fun supporting Alex." I say, looking at Cat in the eyes. She looks up and blushes a bit.

"Yeah, I guess you're right." She shrugs. Her green eyes still wander, and it appears something has caught her eye. Cat seems caught off guard, and she begins to panic. She leans in close to my face, making me blush heavily,

"We need to leave, right now. Look behind you."  Cat whispers. As I look, I see Betsey and Alex, being seated a few tables from us. Cat seems really nervous, but Betsey hasn't seen her yet.

Alex sees Cat and waves. Cat looks over, and her and Betsey's eyes lock. Cat just looks away, but Betsey starts walking over. Alex intertwines his arm with Betsey's.

"Hey, guys," I say, and look over to see Cat blushing furiously, from both anger and embarrassment. Betsey seems happy to see her ex-friend again, and she is smiling. "We were just about to leave."  I say through my teeth, giving her a glare. Betsey's face falls.

"Oh." Betsey sighs. Alexander, it seems, has not talked enough with Cat today. He stares at Cat intently.

"You okay?" he asks, and Cat nods, peeking her scared green eyes out. Alexander, being so close to her face, is a bit embarrassed to have Cat's face so close to his.

"Well, we should get going now. See you guys later." I begin to grab my purse, and Cat sits up.

"Cat, you should be more confident, more positive." I sip on my smoothie, as Cat munches on her sandwich. She just shrugs.

"I guess," Cat says through a mouthful of food. She quickly blushes, realizing the mistake in etiquette she has made.

"What would make you feel better around them?" I ask, looking her straight in the eyes. cat looks down. She thinks for a bit, then starts to answer.

"I guess maybe revenge or something? That's really bad, of course, I'm sorry -"

"Let's do it!" I exclaim, hugging her tightly. Cat blushes profusely, while I'm just smiling.

Cat is a bit hesitant at first, but she eventually opens up. Cat and I write letters every day. We decide to set the stage, remembering that Alex is on the football team. Betsey, and the crowd, will obviously be there.

Cat is going to be a bit of a spy for the next few weeks.

~~~
I'm sorry for being gone for so long ;-;
Also, are you wondering who Cat is? It's Kitty. Maria calls Kitty 'Cat' as a means of showing who Maria sees Kitty as. Kitty is like Kitten, which Eliza sees as her childhood friend, a mere memory of who Kitty is; Alex sees Kitty as his crush's best friend, his friend; but Maria sees Kitty as a person. Not a memory, not that slightly over-dramatic girl, a person.
