Chapter íkosi-dío

The interview was finished within a blur. They offered Kirks to also make an appearance, probably to speculate if they were secret-star-crossed lovers, but he just stood off-set much to the director's disappointment.

The reporter, Will Bex, was pretty awful according to Alexis. He had a receding hairline and kept asking invasive questions. Did you like-like one of the girls? Who was your favourite friend? Who did you wish would have died instead—Tellie Hollows or Penelope Goode? Alexis felt her temper rising, so her answer was short and curt—I don't know, let's move on to the next.

"One last thing before you go, Alexis," Will Bex said, staring at the camera with a toothy grin. "Do you believe you should have been one of the few three to survive Omfori?"

Alexis' heart dropped. "What?"

"I asked if..." Will's voice was blocked out of Alexis' mind. She looked off-camera, also seeing concern and annoyance in Kirks' eyes. He mouthed, I can't stand this dude, ditch him! She mouthed back, I literally can't, this is being recorded!

"I, uhm, don't really know," she said simply, hoping this interview would end soon. Maybe she should have read the fine print on the contract. She just wanted to end all false info or rumours being spread by doing this. "I mean, I was shot in the l-leg. Not that dying is much better, what happened to Tellie and Penny...it's horrible."

"Yes, what a shame." Will shifted in his leather seat that looked fit for a king's throne. "But were you more deserving to survive the ordeal? I understand it's very troubling, but please share your thoughts."

"I don't think it's appropriate to say th-this for the sake of the girls' deaths."

"Not even for the sake of Lypsie Lee or Odetta Johnston."

"Will," Alexis said, trying to smile. "Please, stop it."

He looked flustered, as if he realized he went over the limits. He stood up, crouching down to shake Alexis' hand. She flimsily shook it as they both faced the camera as if on cue. "Well, that's all from the fierce survivor, Alexis Kathan!"

Fierce survivor. Maybe some part of that is true.

"This was a nice day," Kirks said as soon as they left the studio. They were assured when the director and Will Bex said they didn't have to do any more for the rest of their lives. "Kind of mid though."

"Yeah, sorry about that," Alexis replied as he pushed her across the road. The Kathans always had early dinner on Mondays, so Kirks agreed to bring her back home. "I'm just glad I faced some tough stuff today. I found out the truth, but like that will erase what happened on the island. God, I sound soft."

"Don't go all soft on me now," he snorted.

"I have a question, if that's okay, it involves Tellie."

"Shoot."

"How did you get to know her?"

Kirks stopped briefly before he continued to push the wheelchair up the street. "I actually had a small crush on Odetta Johnston, before she went kind of cuckoo and I found out she's lesbian."

Alexis tried to process this. "You seriously liked Odetta?"

"Yeah, but I kind of caught on that she was acting really friendly with Lypsie Lee," he said sheepishly. "But while I got all lovely and dooey with Odetta, I noticed Tellie. She was pretty and seemed so...nice. Like, nice-nice, the kind of nice where you can't get angry at her."

"Tellie has that effect," she agreed.

"So I just asked her out, and we hit it off. We knew each other for a whole year, and well...we decided that Richmond Hill isn't for us. I urged her to get away from Penelope. No offense by the way."

Alexis smirked. "None taken."

Kirks Witcher left Alexis in the comfort of her own home. Mom was already in the kitchen, holding three doggie bags of Chinese take-out. That's weird, Alexis thought oddly. We never eat take-out on the spot.

"Hello, Alexis," Mom called out. "Dad is coming from work soon, do you want stir-fried noodles? I already have them on the table with the forks and chop-sticks. It smells really good—"

"Are you, like, having another baby?"

Her mom was mortified. "What? No, I'm too old for that, don't be foolish!"

"Then why are you acting like you're going to break some big news to me?" Alexis protested, feeling her cheeks getting heated. Mom rolled her eyes, a 'mom' roll if you must. "Tell me! Pretty please?"

"Well, it's very last minute."

"Just spit it out and I'll see if it's too last minute for me!"

Mom set down the doggie bags and she crossed her arms across her chest. "Okay, darling, er—how do you feel about attending a funeral?"
