Chapter dekaeptá

Lypsie Lee didn't mean to cause harm to Alexis Kathan. Tellie Hollows was always doing funny tricks and such, so why did Penelope Goode just drone in on her? Because Penny hated her, Lypsie knew for sure.

She was thankful that Odetta Johnston had her back from that wretched girl. But all of that changed quickly once Odetta got her alone at the House of Riches. They were in Lypsie's bedroom which was filled with exotic plants in their swimsuits.

"What's wrong, Oddie?" Lypsie asked gently, coaxing her. "Are you mad about how I pushed Alexis off the boat? Babe, it was only a joke, I-I promise."

"It's not a joke, Calypso!" she shouted, throwing her arms in the air. She was angry, Lypsie could tell when Odetta used Calypso instead of Lypsie. Lypsie hated the name Calypso, it was her mother's pick, not her father's. "I only stood up for you back on the Midén because Alexis made it out okay! What if she didn't? What if she drowned, Calypso?"

Lypsie frowned. "Is this because of Hespa Aigle's incident? Oddie, you know that I don't care about what happened in the past. I love you, don't you know that—"

"Calypso," Odetta urged firmly. "I'm talking about the fact that Alexis could have died."

Lypsie scowled. She had nothing against Alexis, she was the least annoying out of the girls, but she hated how much Odetta was bashing at her. Lypsie Lee also hated not being in control. Her father taught her better than that.

"It's about Penelope, isn't it?" she asked innocently, slipping her hands into Odetta's.

Odetta wrinkled her nose. "It's not always about Penny—"

"You told me that Penelope controlled your life, you said she was like a toxic cloud dangling over your head," Lypsie whispered in Odetta's ear. She could feel her hands shaking, so Lypsie steadied them. "I am so much better than Penelope Goode, you know that."

She planted a soft kiss on Odetta's lips, much to her delight. They stayed like that for a few minutes until Odetta pushed Lypsie away. This wasn't part of the plan, Lypsie thought, stunned.

"This is the problem," Odetta groaned, huffing. "We fix every problem by making out, life isn't like that."

"You're being difficult," Lypsie said, growling. Odetta backed down, something Lypsie always could count on. She wrapped her arms around Odetta's neck, smiling thinly. "I can love you better than anyone else. Better than Penny, that's for sure. I understand you."

Odetta still was dismayed. "Then why don't we go public? If you're worried about people finding out you're lesbian, screw them. We can go into a real relationship, girlfriend and girlfriend. Lypsie...what's wrong with that?"

Father always told Lypsie to never express feelings. "If you get too attached, you're gone for the rest of your little life, Calypso," he'd say. Adam Lee never liked his children, especially his daughters, so he'd distanced himself. Lypsie didn't like the idea of a relationship, Odetta could take the reins of control too easily.

"Why can't we stay a secret?" Lypsie asked, batting her eyelashes playfully. "What we have is so very special. It's brilliant, Odetta. Utterly brilliant. We're like Calypso and Odysseus in Homer's Odyssey, except this time, we are the ones who end up in love."

Lypsie leaned in for another kiss, but Odetta hesitated again. She let go of Lypsie, pacing around her bedroom like a madman. Or a madwoman. "Lypsie, th-this isn't a Greek myth, this is reality."

Lypsie stepped closer to her, crossing her arms firmly. "Why can't it be? We're gods."

"We're not gods!" Odetta yelled, getting angry. It was beyond Lypsie's work to tame her now.

"Babe—"

"Don't 'babe' me!" she hollered, throwing a fit. "You keep on thinking that we're gods because we cheated the system. I'm Odysseus, you're Calypso, and so then we fell into love when they couldn't. Lypsie, get it in your head—"

"We wouldn't be arguing if Penelope was out of the picture!" Lypsie protested.

"This isn't Penny's fault for once, it's ours! I'm leaving!" Odetta stormed out of the bedroom in a fury. Anxious, Lypsie ran after her, calling her name. Odetta was pretty fast, she sped down the stairs in a blur.

She went out to the Cage Pool, leaving Lypsie alone. This isn't good, she thought, heading to the pool eventually. Lypsie immediately saw the flirty and blushing glances that were exchanged between Odetta and Penny.

She curled up her fists as she went into the pool. The flirts only got worse after Alexis felt and they got too many drinks. Lypsie was so drunk that she thought she'd pass out. But she clearly wasn't drunk enough to not notice Odetta and Penny in the hot tub.

It could have been her blurry vision, but Lypsie was sure that they kissed. Penny cupped Odetta's face, grinning and sending Lypsue a 'bitchy' look. Lypsie could feel the angry and vivid tears roll down.

"Hey, are you okay right now?" Tellie asked drunkenly.

Lypsie ignored her, crying and hiccuping. She went underwater so no one could tell whether she was sobbing her eyes out or not. The cold water welcomed her face. Her head bobbed out, her wet hair slobbing down her shoulders.

"Let's g-go inside to play truth or dare!" Penny suggested, hopping out of the tub with Odetta behind her. Tellie squealed in delight while Lypsie gave a meek nod. She wanted to strangle Penelope Goode's neck so badly.

Lypsie got out of the pool, stumbling drunkenly into the House of Riches. Tellie followed in hot pursuit. They had a few more drinks before settling on the dinner table. Penny held a glass cup of beer. "Okaaay, who's first?"

Tellie immediately raised her hand. "Me, pick me!"

"Okay, truth or dare?"

"Truth, weee!" Tellie exclaimed, kicking up her Converse heels on the table. She was so drunk that she looked as if she was going to barf everything out of her throat. Lypsie felt slightly bad, Tellie Hollows was underaged and never drank alcohol before. But how could she pity someone who worshipped Penny and gave in so easily?

She was weak according to Lypsie Lee. Penny seemed pleased with herself. "Who's your little boyfriend, hm? C'mon, Tels, we both know that Circe boy isn't good for you. Kirks Witcher will never be enough."

The smirk on Tellie's face was replaced with a scowl. "Kirks is wonderful."

"Wonderfully ugly," Odetta added, laughing a bit. Tellie's scowl deepened as she drank another swig of vodka. "Okay, who's ne-next?"

Penny pretended to ponder the question while her eyes fell on Lypsie. "You should go next."

Lypsie's eyes narrowed. She wasn't easily imitated, but she tumbled all over her words because of her drunkness. Or that's what she convinced herself. "Why m-me?"

"Cuz' you're a pussy," Penny replied, her shoulder brushing against Odetta's. "Are you afraid?"

Lypsie scoffed, standing up. "Please, don't confuse yourself, I'm not you, Penny."

"OH SNAP! THE SHY AND QUIET GIRL ISN'T SCARED" Tellie couldn't help but laugh, which earned her a glare from Penny.

"Bet." Penny also kicked up her legs as if she was a goddess. She wasn't, Lypsie was. Yes, I am, Lypsie thought. I'll prove Odetta wrong, I'm above them all. She'll come crawling back for my love. "So, Lypsie, truth or dare?"

"Dare because I'm not a pussy," she hissed back.

Penny's brows knitted together while Odetta butted in. "Let's go easy, huh? Lypsie, hmm, how about you go to the library? I dare you to grab a book—it could be random—and scribble all over it like a madman."

Tellie giggled. "Oooh, Alexis would lose her soul if she knew about that. Especially if Lyspie cracked the spine!"

Lyspie rolled her eyes. The alcohol was swirling around her mind like a blur. It felt as if she was going to trip and fall flat on her head. She barely made it to the library. She passed by the beautiful architect without a clear thought.

Suddenly, she spotted the Odyssey by Homer. She thought of the goddess, Calypso, and her namesake. Lypsie yanked it off the shelf, racing back to the dinner table. Odetta already had a pen and a bunch of other office supplies there. She offered a thin smile of disgust. "You're welcome?"

"Whatever," she snapped, flipping to the page where Calypso fell in love with Odyesseus quickly. She was desperate to prove to Odetta and Penny that she had so much more. Lypsie was a goddess. She highlighted a bunch of stupid crap and scribbled furiously. There were hearts and broken hearts on the sides of each page. Lypsie obviously crossed them out after a drunken mess.

She slid the ruined book over the table to Penny. "There, Penny."

"Okay, whatever." Penny glanced at Odetta. "Truth or dare?"

"Ah, wh-what the heck? Dare," she replied, grinning like a fool.

Tellie's words slurred together. "Sit in the garage for like, half an hour?"

Odetta rolled her eyes, but did as she was told. Once she left, Penny dared Tellie to join her or something. Then Lypsie and her were left alone. Penny flexed her fingers on the table. "We both know she loves me."

Lypsie was not backing down. "Says who?"

"Odetta." Penelope Goode smirked. "Lypsie, darling, you're a control freak."

Her fists clenched together, trying her best not to trip over her words like a babbling baby. "Shut up, you're wrong. Odetta and I are our own freaks because you don't care about us at all. It's almost laughable how your attempts are weak—"

"Guys!" Odetta yelled. That definitely wasn't half an hour, Lypsie thought. "Tellie passed out!"

The colour drained from Penny's face as she growled in anger. She walked away to the table and Lypsie reluctantly followed. Tellie slopped onto the living room's sofa, drooling. She was snoring and seemed out of harm's way.

"Ugh," Penny huffed, rolling her eyes. "Let's just do a few more truths or dares."

The three remaining girls seated themselves back at the dinner. Penny glanced at Lypsie, then at Odetta, flashing a quick smile. "Odetta," she finally decided. "Truth or dare?"

"Truth," she shrugged in reply.

"Do you love Lypsie or me more?" Penny asked innocently. Lypsie felt her soul leave her soul as Odetta's eyes went wide. It looked as if the girl was honestly debating. More like deciding to be a bitch or not, Lyspie thought angrily. She shot Odetta a glare.

"That's not fair," Odetta said uneasily.

"The point of choosing 'truth' is to—" Penny grabbed Odetta's chin. All Lypsie Lee could do was watch and let her blood boil. She was livid, clinging onto her chair for dear life. Then Penny kissed Odetta. "—tell the truth."

Lypsie stood up, shocked. Adrenaline fueled her, but mainly rage. She wanted to swear and scream in both of their faces. She just stared as Odetta, her freaking secret girlfriend, allowed it. They both were all too willingly.

"That's enough!" she shouted, gritting her teeth as they pulled away. Odetta was flushed and looked remorseful. Lypsie could not believe that she betrayed her. Sure, maybe Lypsie was a control freak. But not as much as Penelope Goode.

Calypso Lee was a victim, not a villain.

Right?
