My Percy Jackson - Isabelle Olympus

I just read the Percy Jackson series and this idea came to me, let me know what you think! enjoy!

My name is Isabelle Olympus and my life changed on the local bus to grocery shop. I was picking up some food for my dad and myself from the shops, I was only eight but it still came to be my responsibility, if I don't do it we'll have to go without. My dad isn't a nice person, I have been self sufficient since I was five. He comes home from "Work" drunk, and collapses on the floor. When he wakes up food has to be on the table, or else he gets mad and that is bad. Then he'll go out again to a club or something and he won't come back till early the next day. When he gets angry . . . it's bad for me. The worst part isn't what he does, I can handle the pain, it's his taunting and jeering I can't stand. When I'm lying there on the floor with blood dripping from my nose and he makes a comment about how weak I am, that's when I get murderously angry and try to fight back. But let's face it there's only so much damage an eight year old girl can do to a middle age man. I managed to break his nose once, he broke my arm in return.

Well it was this one bus ride that threw me head first into another world. I was sitting near the back looking out of the window, making my hair flop over my face, covering the black eye I had acquired last night. Everything was normal until a man in a trench coat and hat stepped onto the bus. I immediately felt a chill in the air, causing me to look up. I froze, I thought it had to be some kind of joke because the thing that I had mistaken for a man had green scaly skin and yellow eyes. As I was starring at it, it seemed to grow and swell, before I knew it there was a 10 foot monster before me growling and snapping its jaws in my direction. The stench of its breath nearly knocked me off my feet as it blew across my face. When I got over the shock of what I saw I looked around frantically hoping that someone else was freaking out as much as me, but no one seemed to see the giant monster standing in the middle of the bus, they were all acted as though there was nothing wrong. I started to wonder if my dad had hit my head too hard last night and caused me to finally lose my mind but before I could think too much about it the monster lunged at me. I saw this coming just in time to leap out of my seat and out of the way of the giant teeth. The monster gave a deafening roar before pouncing at me again. I dodged his teeth but got struck in the back of my head by one of its flailing arms. By this time some of the other people on the bus seemed to have noticed that something was going wrong, but most of them held confused expressions rather than ones of shear panic.

"Someone help me!" I screamed out desperately as the thing swung at me, but none of them moved. Fine then, I thought, I'll have to do this myself. I ran back a few rows of seats, with the monster stomping after me, and grabbed a metal briefcase off of the floor next to a posh looking business man. I swung around with the briefcase at arm's length away from me and got some satisfaction out of the thud noise it made when it collided with the monsters face. The creature was taken by surprise by this and staggered backwards a bit. I used this to my advantage and went on the attack, I ran forwards and swung the briefcase into its stomach. It was almost like my body went into automatic mode, it seemed to know exactly what was coming, so I dropped into a crouch to avoid the swipe the monster attempted at my head and brought my leg around, knocking it off its feet. The monster seemed to struggle to get back up and its legs were thrashing around uselessly in the air. I realised that I wouldn't be able to defeat this thing singlehandedly so I should escape whilst I could. I ran to the end of the bus and shoved my way past 2 old ladies to the emergency exit window above the left aisle. I twisted the handle and shoved it until the pane fell out, I was crouching on the edge looking down at the ground passing by. The timing was perfect, the driver had slowed down because of the commotion and we were driving next to a patch of grass, if there was any time to jump out of a moving bus this was it. With one last look back of my shoulder towards the monster, which had just gotten to its feet I launched myself out of the window. I wasn't stupid I knew that a fall like that would hurt, no matter how much grass there was to land on, but I tried to take out some of it by rolling on landing. Surprisingly, I didn't break any bones, it hurt don't get me wrong, but nothing more than what my dad did to me and nowhere near as much as I had expected. I stood up and looked at myself, surveying the damage, I had a cut on my cheek but it wasn't very deep and I had grazed knees and palms but apart from that I seemed to be fine. Then it dawned on me that I had just been attacked by a MONSTER. They don't exist!

"Oh my god!" I said aloud.

"Yes?" said a mischievous voice next to me. I spun around quickly, shocked to find a man standing next to me dressed in jogging clothes. I could've sworn that nobody was there a second ago.

"Who are you? And how did you get there? You weren't there a second ago." I demanded feeling immediately cautious of anything that wasn't normal after that experience.

"I am Hermes, god of messages, travellers and thieves." He said with a smile on his face.

"What? You're a god! You're a Greek God!" I was stunned, this was too much of the impossible for one day.

"I am indeed." He replied calmly.

"It's happened, I've gone crazy. That's the only solution." I said more to myself than to him, but he seemed to find this quite funny.

"No, you haven't gone crazy. I am a real Greek god, and you are not human either." He told me chuckling.

"What do you mean I'm not human? How can I not be human?" I asked not sure whether to believe him or not, but considering the monster on the bus I was willing to go along with it for now.

"You are very special, you are the daughter of every Olympian god and a witch." I could feel my jaw drop at this.

"Hold up, there are like 12 Olympian gods aren't there? How does that work?" I asked.

"There are 12 official ones but there are also Hades and Hestia who aren't counted but are still your parents too." He started to babble "But about how it works, a witch came to Olympus and she made you from a few strand of our hair. Don't ask for any more detail because I don't know."

"How come I've only just met you now then? Where were you for the rest of my life?" I challenged, Hermes' face darkened as he explained.

"The witch involved didn't state her conditions until afterwards, they included that we weren't allowed to see you until you were eight. She took you and hid you, we didn't know where you were, and she used magic to keep us away. We only just found out where you were today. All of us tried to get her to give you over to us, we tried everything from bribes to threats and to begging. It didn't work, she never told us, but as your eighth birthday passed last week, the spell has lifted and here we are. But we don't have much time you need to get to camp half-blood, we will explain more when you get there. All of us."

"You mean that the man I've been living with for the last eight years isn't my father?" I asked stunned.

"Yes." It may have just been my imagination but it sounded almost like he was jealous of this man, like he thought I liked him.

"Thank God!" I sighed. That seemed to confuse him and then his eyes flashed and he got very angry.

"What did he do to you? If he dare hurt you . . ." He threatened. I couldn't reply his face was truly terrifying and my throat seemed to have closed up. He put his hand under my chin and tilted my head up from starring at my shoes, although he was angry, his touch was gentle, as though he thought I was so fragile I could break if he wasn't too careful. Of course, as my head tilted up the hair fell off my face, revealing the black eye which was obviously too prominent to have come from my recent encounter with the monster on the bus. He studied the bruise and his jaw clenched, trying to keep himself from acting out.

"I thought you said I had to go to a camp, quickly." I said trying desperately to change the subject. His eyes remained on my bruise but he nodded stiffly.

"Yes, we cannot help you more than giving you this." He said whilst producing a clip from his pocket.

"Err . . . thank you?" I said but it came out more as a question. What good would a clip do me?

"It's not just a normal hair grip, once unclipped it becomes a sword that if lost will return to your pocket. To put it away, simply press the crest in the middle of the hilt and it will once again be a clip." I couldn't help myself, I had to do it. I pushed the clip until it clicked open and it transformed in my hands, suddenly it wasn't a clip anymore, it was a sword. I pressed the crest and it became a clip again just like Hermes had said.

"Does this mean that there will be more monsters on my journey?" I asked.

"Unfortunately yes, my child, the sword is made of celestial bronze which will not kill mortals. We gods are forbidden from assisting too much in your journey, but we can help from time to time. You need to go to New York, to camp half-blood." He proceeded to give me an address, which I knew I wouldn't forget, I had a brilliant memory. "Once you are there you will train how to fight these monsters and learn more about this world, we will all talk to you there. Remember that you are the daughter of all of us, which means that you have certain powers over what we control."

"New York? How am I supposed to get there? I don't have any money."

"We left you some in a bank account, just ask the man you live with about it."

"You mean I have to go home?" I asked, I didn't want to.

"This will be the last time, I promise." He reassured me, and I trusted him. "Now off you go."

I started to walk away but then I stopped ran back to him and gave him a tight hug. I wasn't sure if you were meant to hug gods but I didn't really care. He hugged me back though, which encouraged me.

"Bye Daddy." I said letting go of him and stepping back. I know it's quite soon to be calling him that, but this man had shown the most care for me that anyone ever has just by being angry about my bruise. A broad smile spread across his face as he answered.

"Bye sweetie." I had to smile at that, this was closest relationship I'd had with anyone since my pet fish died. I took a deep breath and started walking in the direction of home, I didn't really want to have to be there when he found out I was leaving and he would have to look after himself, but I couldn't just leave him a note because then I wouldn't get the money and I needed it to get an airplane ticket to New York.

When I walked into the apartment he was lying asleep on the sofa with the TV still on, a beer bottle in his hand and drool was leaking out of his mouth and onto the sofa. Okay, I could do this, just wake him up. Come on he's less scary than the monster you faced today. I tried convincing myself to do it, I eventually gave in and hesitantly prodded his arm. He grumbled and rolled over, causing me to jump back in alarm. I was angry at myself, I shouldn't let him have this affect on me, I'm the daughter of all the Olympian gods. I gained confidence from that thought and nudged him again, hard enough to wake him up this time. He rolled over again but this time in the wrong direction causing him to fall off of the sofa, when he stood up he was glaring at me.

"Why did you wake me up?" he asked slowly, venom dripping from every word. I tried not to be scared, or at least not show it, so I raised my chin and looked him squarely in the eyes.

"I know the truth. I'm leaving now. And I want the money that my parents left for me." I was proud of myself for not letting my voice shake. He seemed to find this funny, which made me feel really uneasy.

"You're not going anywhere. And the money has long since been used up, how do you think I paid for my poker nights? At most there is fifty pounds left." He slurred, he was obviously still a bit drunk.

"I want the last of the money." I demanded. Almost like a reflex his eyes wandered to the sofa, that must be where he hid it. I didn't make a move to go get it knowing that he would only stop me.

"Well, the only thing you're going to get is my beer."

"No." I said firmly.

"What did you say?" He asked half shocked at my refusal, half angry.

"I said no. I'm not going to let you push me around anymore." I replied calmly. He didn't seem to be able to find any words for that so he made a swipe at me. I don't know whether it was because of the adrenaline running through my veins or whether it had something to do with knowing what I was, but I ducked out of the way and swiped his legs out from under him. He growled in anger and tried to kick my legs out too, but I jumped over him. He pushed himself to his feet and punched me straight in the jaw, I heard a loud crack as his fist connected with my face. I staggered backwards clutching my jaw, shock was plastered on my face briefly before fury took over and I charged at him. I don't really remember making the decision to act but my body just started attacking. I elbowed him in the stomach and then the nose. I ducked his right hook before kneeing him in the privates and head butting him. He stumbled backwards and fell over unconscious, I didn't waste any time, I didn't want him to get back up so I ran to the sofa and threw the cushions off it. I shoved my hand down the side until it came in contact with a few notes. I excitedly brought it out to see only £55, that wasn't nearly enough to get to New York.

Then I remembered what Hermes had said about me having powers, I got an idea. I left the apartment for good with a backpack of clothes and food, and headed out in the direction of the station. I took the first train I could to Brighton, having to spending some of my little money.

Once off of the train I ran to the port and got in the queue to rent a boat.

"How can I help you miss?" Asked a man with a bristly moustache

"How much is it to rent a boat for an hour?" I asked, thinking that keeping the boat for a little longer than I originally stated wouldn't be the worst thing I would do on this trip.

"That'd be £25 miss, but are you planning on taking the boat out alone? Because it takes an adult to steer it and a child can't handle it." He said with a concerned expression

"Oh, don't worry about it, my family are just getting the ice creams, they sent me ahead to get the boat." I reassured him with enough confidence in my voice to make him agree and give over the keys to the boat. I followed his directions and stopped in front of an expensive looking motorboat. It was a shame that I probably wouldn't be able to bring it back. I made sure that no one was around when I crouched at the back of the boat and put my fingers in the water.

"Okay, I don't know if this will work but here goes. Can you create a really fast current or wave or something that will carry me to New York?" I was nearly thrown off the boat as it jetted forward at speed, but I managed to cling to the railing in time. I went back up to the steering wheel but didn't touch it, the boat seemed to know where it was going as it swerved to the right. The sun was just dipping below the horizon and I suddenly realised how tired I was. I went back down to water and gave it instructions to wake me up when we got close to New York or if something went wrong before finding a blanket and falling asleep in the corner.

I woke up as water was splashed on my face, my hand automatically went to the clip on the side of my pocket as I stood up. At first I couldn't see what was wrong, the water was seemed peaceful and it was quiet, only the gentle lapping of the waves against the boat. I was just about to ask the water what was wrong when a giant tentacle rose out of the sea at least 20 feet long. A scream was caught in my throat as the limb came down in the direction of my boat, at the last second I ordered the sea to move my boat to the left and out of the way. I was flung off my feet as a wave caused by the monster rocked the boat and its head rose out of the water. I ran to the front of the boat and launched myself off of it. I jumped off one of the many tentacles now in the air and on to the creatures head, hoping to draw its attention away from the boat because that was my way to New York, daughter of Poseidon or not, the water would be cold to swim there in. With my sword in my hand I was about to stab the squid creature when it started moving its head frantically throwing me off balance and nearly off its head. But I sunk into a crouch and gripped on for dear life, my sword had dropped out of my hand and was skidding on the slippery skin of the monster. I scrambled after it whilst trying not to fall off myself, I just managed to grab the hilt before it fell off. I had to do this now, the longer I waited the more likely it was that I would be thrown off, I brought the sword above my head and then shoved it into the monster beneath me. Something that Hermes had forgotten to mention to me was that monsters disintegrate when they die, this didn't help me seeing as how I was standing on top of a dying monster about 20 feet in the air. I could feel it crumbling beneath me, but of course, I didn't know what was going on until there was nothing beneath me except air. That's when I had an idea I doubted it would work but it was the only thing that I could do. I quickly closed my eyes and concentrated on the air beneath me, imagining it getting thicker and thicker until it would stop me from falling. I waited for the splash and cold water to surround me but it never happened, hesitantly I opened one eye and gasped. It had worked, my plan had worked! I was standing in the air, hovering above the water, I asked the water to move the boat to underneath me and then dropped lightly onto it. I was amazed at what I had done, that was impossible. Although thinking about it, monsters should be impossible too but there was something more ridiculous about controlling the elements . . . that just couldn't happen! I must've stood there for at least five minutes before I instructed the water to keep going. I didn't go back to sleep, the sun was starting to rise and I had feeling that we were getting close.

It wasn't too much later that I spotted the statue of liberty and the city behind it rising out of the water. I told the water to stop the boat, I grabbed my bag and jumped off the boat and into the sea. I may never have been to New York, but I knew that you couldn't just rock up there from a different country, in a stolen boat without a passport and without adult supervision. Once I was in the water I sank under the surface and thankfully found that I could breathe underwater, if I couldn't my plan would have been ruined. I got a current to take me to shore underwater and I got out at a secluded area with no one around. It may have looked bad if I came out of the sea bone dry into a group of tourists.

The good thing about New York for someone trying to blend in is there are so many people, including so many weird people, that you never get looked twice at. I walked through the crowds until I got to a road and I called a taxi.

"Where to, miss?" The taxi driver asked me. I gave him the address that Hermes had told me and he just looked at me blankly. I guessed that he didn't know where that was so I got out again and realised that I'd have to walk there. That was hard considering that I didn't know where it was either. I closed my eyes and focused on the camp, I felt a gentle tug in my stomach pulling me to the left. I followed it, sensing that was the right way to go.

I walked the whole day, only stopping to "borrow" some food from a convenience store on the way. I didn't run into any trouble until the sun started setting. It was when I turned into a darker alleyway off the main street, following my gut instinct, that I met a giant. Well it may have had a proper name but I didn't know it, all I knew was that it was 12 feet tall and was swinging a club at me. You would have thought that I would have seen something that big coming, but it just appeared out of the shadows shouting that it wanted to eat me, encouraging, I thought sarcastically. I ducked under the oncoming bat and drew my sword. He seemed to hesitate at the sight of it, but only for a second. He tried swinging at me again, I had to jump backwards to avoid being pulverised by an oversized stick. The monster was strong but it was also slow which meant that once it had swung at me, he didn't have the speed to stop me from darting under his legs and cut them with my sword. When they seemed to have no affect other than to anger him, I stabbed him in the calf. I had tried to do it hard, but his skin was tough and hard to penetrate so instead of sinking in far my sword went in only about 2 inches. This wasn't enough to kill it, only cause it pain and give it a fairly serious limp. I was about to draw my sword out from its leg when an enormous hand closed around me and lifted me off of the floor. I panicked, I was going to be eaten alive by a giant. I struggled in his grasp, but I may have been a fly for all the good I was doing. As a last resort I bit him, it worked, he dropped me cursing and clutching his hand to his chest. I ran back to where my sword was still stuck in his calf and I dug it in deeper with all my might and then thrust it upwards, making a long, deep gash in his leg. He roared as he started to dissolve into dust, and I heaved a huge sigh of relief.

Once he was gone and my adrenaline rush was leaving me, I realised how sore I was, the giant had crushed me quite badly and I had bruises forming in the shape of a giant hand. Of course the hand shaped bruises were nothing new but I'd never had them on this scale before. I also noticed how tired I was, all my muscles ached, fighting monsters took a lot out of you. I sat down and leaned my head against the alley wall, catching my breath. I decided that I would have to go a little further before I let myself sleep, I needed somewhere less crowded, because although I had just fought a giant in broad daylight, I was only a few meters away from a busy road with pedestrians.

I finally let myself stop in a dead-end alley way. I hid behind a skip, so as not draw any attention, then I made vines and plants grow from the concrete below me. I made them into a bed about a foot off the ground and collapsed happily onto it, falling asleep immediately.

I woke up early next morning, as a truck went speeding past my alley, beeping at a cab which it had just over taken. It took me a while to remember where I was before I went out in search of some food. Again I "borrowed" a loaf of bread off of a bakery windowsill, before continuing to walk the direction my insides were telling me. I knew I was getting closer when the buildings started to thin and more trees started appearing, until there was an entire forest beside me. I was walking quicker, knowing that I was getting closer to safety and an explanation with every step I took. I didn't want to have to slow down, so of course, I met another monster. This one was black and a mixture between a giant cat like a puma and a scorpion. It was mostly a large puma but instead of a normal tail it had a stinger, and its body was covered in armour-like skin, which I was positive I wouldn't be able to stab through. It had jumped out of the forest and right in front of me, hissing viciously. I quickly drew my sword and jumped out of the way of its jaws as it tried to stop me. I scanned the monster looking for weak spots, chinks in its armour anything to help me, I found two. One at the base of its tail where it joined to the rest of the monster and another behind its neck. Both of these were going to be hard to get to, but they were my only options. I had an idea, I started backing away from the monster slowly, ignoring its warning growls for me to stay put. As I had hoped, it pounced at me, trying to stop my escape, but I ran and skidded across the floor so that it flew straight over my head, and before it had a chance to turn or attack me with its sting, I cut its tail off at the base, where it had no protection. The cat whimpered in pain and spun around to face me, but I wasn't there. I had clung onto its back as it spun around. I started to climb towards its defenceless neck, but it seemed to realise what I was doing so it started bucking and jumping beneath me. I was being thrown about, like I was riding a bull, and was only clinging on by my finger tips. Still with the creature, trying to throw me off I crawled up its back, staying low. Then I had to sit up and hold on only by squeezing my legs, I was almost thrown off as soon as my hands left contact with the beast, I had to bring them back to steady myself before trying again. Eventually I managed to stay balanced for me to sweep my sword at its neck and behead the creature. Its body buckled underneath me and fell to the floor. I rolled off of the dead cat-scorpion and onto the grass, panting heavily. The monster disintegrated and I got up and was about to continue when I saw something lying in the grass. It was the stinger from the end of the tail, the creature had left it behind when it had turned to dust. I figured it was mine to keep as a souvenir so I shoved it in my backpack and set off again.

Only about an hour later I came to a sign that said: PICK YOUR OWN STRAWBERRIES and then the address below. I couldn't believe it, I had made it, the address matched the one that Hermes had given me, I was here! I walked up the hill half nervous, half excited. At the top of the hill I could only see a large building but I assumed the rest was down there too. I hurried down the hill and came to a stop at the front of the building not sure what to do. Was I meant to knock or just go in? What would I find when I went in? I tentatively raised my hand and knocked.

"Come in." A surprised voice said from the other side of the door. I took a deep breath, before going in. I was shocked by what I saw, I had walked into what would at first glance seem to be an average looking office, there was a desk, a full bookcase, pictures on the walls and the odd trophy. But when I looked closer the books on the shelves were about monsters and heroes and they were in ancient Greek, but I somehow understood it, even though I had never had a lesson of it in my life. The pictures on the wall were of half human half goat people surrounded by a load of kids in orange t-shirts which had CAMP HALF-BLOOD written on the front. The trophies on shelves weren't your average sport trophies, some were for archery, some for chariot racing and some were trophies from dead monsters. But what had shocked me was the centaur which was standing behind the desk. He was looking at me with a confused and slightly worried look. "May I help you?" He asked, breaking me out of my trance.

"Oh, um . . . I'm not sure to be honest. This is probably going to sound completely crazy but I was sent here by the Olympian god Hermes." I said speeding up as I went along. The centaur seemed to relax a bit, when I said this.

"It doesn't sound crazy at all. So you are a demigod are you then?" He asked with a smile.

"Not exactly. I don't really understand this but Hermes said he'd explain more when I got here. He said that I didn't only have one Olympian God as a parent, but all of them." Chiron's smile had faded and he seemed to be waiting for me to turn around and say 'just kidding'.

"I don't think I follow." He eventually said.

"Neither did I. I mean, I was a nobody. I lived with my terrible father, in a tiny apartment in England. Then I was on the bus when a monster got on to and tried to kill me so I ended up hitting him with a briefcase and jumping out of a moving bus. Then I met Hermes and he told me he was my real father along with the other Olympian gods and a witch, who had hid me away from the gods using magic and a repulsive human as my father until I was eight. He said he couldn't help me get here more than giving me this." I said without taking a break and holding up the clip. "So I managed to get here, whilst being attacked by monsters including one which left this." This time I placed the stinger on his desk. I thought that if I kept giving him evidence and details he might believe me instead of thinking I was crazy. The centaur gasped when he saw my souvenir and he cautiously picked it up admiring it.

"You killed the monster that left this? By yourself?" He asked amazed. I nodded in reply, I seemed to have used up all my words in my explanation because my throat had become dry and nothing would come out. "This is a very dangerous creature, it's called a Black stinger. Once stung by its poison it will cause immediate death. But it is harmless when it is separated from the rest of the body." He explained, just like a school teacher. "I believe your story, what is your name, child?"

"Isabelle Olympus." I said, he nodded and shook my hand.

"Chiron." He said in return. "Well, we'd better see if your parents have arrived to give us the full explanation, hadn't we Isabelle?"

"Please, call me Izzy." Chiron nodded smiling. I followed him out of the office and down a path. We passed a group 12 cabins, each looked completely different, one had shells on its walls and above the door, and another had holographic lightning bolts on the walls. It wasn't hard to figure out who those belonged to. We passed other kids, some were doing archery, others were sword fighting but all of them stopped and looked at me as I passed, and started whispering once we had gone passed. Some of them weren't very subtle about it either so I managed to hear their conversations.

"Who do you think her parent is?" One kid asked.

"I don't know, she might be an Aphrodite child, but they don't let themselves get muddy." Another suggested.

"Perhaps she's Athena's, or maybe Apollo's." The first one said again. We walked out of hearing range before I could hear any more. We walked into a forest and even though it was not even dark yet, you couldn't see the sun at all through the thick canopy above. We stopped in a clearing, but we weren't the only ones there. In the clearing were 14 thrones with a god seated on each. Chiron bowed respectfully, so I copied.

I felt a hand under my chin, lifting it up so that I faced a goddess. She smiled kindly at me and said

"Don't bow to us, we want you to be close to us not formal with us." She said gently, smiling with her grey eyes twinkling at me. I didn't know what to say so I just beamed at them, feeling overwhelmed.

"Well, shall I do the introductions, seeing as how I'm the only one you actually know?" Hermes said a little smugly. "That is Athena, the goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare." He said gesturing to the woman in front of me. "This is Hera, goddess of marriage and motherhood." He said pointing to another beautiful woman in the throne at the head of the semicircle. "Sitting next to her is Demeter, the goddess of fertility and nature. Artemis is next, she is the goddess of the hunt and animals. The next goddess is Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. And the last but not least goddess is Hestia, the goddess of the hearth." They all nodded to me smiling. "Now for the gods, first there is Zeus, king of the gods and god of the sky. Poseidon is next to him, he is god of the sea, horses and earthquakes. Ares there is the god of war and violence. Apollo is the god of light, archery, prophecy and all that sort of stuff." He said waving his hand dismissively, which earned him a glare from Apollo. "Hephaestus is the god of metal work and crafts." Hermes carried on quickly. "Dionysus is the god of wine and celebration, but he is also camp director here for the next one hundred years." There was some sniggering from around the ring of gods. And lastly, there is Hades, god of the underworld and death." I stood there smiling at them, I couldn't believe that all of these people were my parents, they were so beautiful and perfect and powerful. Hera got up from her throne, walked over to me and hugged me tightly.

"We're so glad to finally meet you, you have no idea how much we have missed you." She said in a heartfelt voice. "Now I'm sure you have many questions for us, so go ahead and ask them." Where to start I thought.

"Okay, Who is the witch who made me?" I asked.

"Her name was Lydia. She was visiting mount Olympus at the time we were . . . um, having a party." Poseidon admitted.

"Were you guys drunk?" I asked smiling, thinking it was funny that the gods could get drunk too.

"Kind of." Apollo admitted with a smirk.

"But don't think that we regret you, because it's quite the opposite, it was the best thing that we ever did." Demeter said and there was agreement from around the clearing.

"So, what am I? Am I a demigod or what?" I asked confused

"You are a goddess, but not a complete one yet. We have been talking and we feel that on your sixteenth birthday you will be made a proper goddess with responsibilities. We are going to let you choose what you want to be the goddess of, but be sensible with it." Zeus urged. "We also agreed before you came that we would let you have a one on one with all of us, starting with me." The other gods stood up and wandered deeper into the forest. Chiron bowed to Zeus and left me alone with the king of the gods as he headed back to camp.

"So tell me a bit about yourself." Zeus said, sounding genuinely interested. I told him my short life story including about my "father", at which point thunder boomed overhead, and my journey here.

"Which of your children will I have heard of?" I asked trying to remember some of the ancient Greek stories.

"Well, there's Hercules and the US president Roosevelt." He answered.

"Okay, this is going to sound stupid but how come lightning bolts aren't straight?" Zeus started laughing but answered anyway.

"They are very powerful and all that energy just makes them change shape."

"Tell me one of your best adventures." I asked. He went on to tell me about how he helped Hercules in some of his quests. After a few of the stories, Poseidon came out of the clearing saying

"Knock knock. Time's up brother." I had a similar conversation with Poseidon but I had a different stupid question for him.

"You live underwater most of the time, right? So how do you drink when you're down there?" Again I got a laugh as a response.

I had a stupid question for each of them. I asked Athena whether every person on an American note or coin was related to a god and apparently only Benjamin Franklin wasn't. I asked Hermes if Walt Disney was a demigod and apparently he wasn't, he was just an imaginative human. I asked Apollo that since gods could change their form, had he ever been tempted to appear as some really famous dead person, like Elvis, just to freak people out. The reply I got was

"Why do you think there were so many "sightings" of him after his death. Hermes and I had fun with that one for months." The one that got the best reaction was Hades', I asked whether Ouija boards worked. He roared with laughter, which could probably be heard from the other end of camp. But he did explain that most of it was done by ghosts who just wanted some fun, and the rest was the human's imagination. It was very rare for the humans to reach who they wanted.

When I had talked to all of them individually, Chiron came back and said that it was nearly dinner time, I had to say goodbye. I didn't want to leave yet, I'd only just met them, it was the most love I had ever gotten and now I had to leave it. I hugged each of them tightly and made them promise that I would see them soon before I would leave.

I started to follow Chiron back down the path and into camp, but he was called back to talk to the gods. I should have been out of hearing range, but somehow I could still clearly hear what they were saying.

"We have been arguing about which cabin Izzy is to stay in, and we finally agreed that she should have a new one built just for her, in which we are all represented. But for dinner she could choose if she would prefer to have her own table or rotate around all of ours. We hope you understand that we don't want her getting hurt at all and you are going to make sure that that doesn't happen."

"I understand. I will get on to the cabin problem immediately, but it will not be ready by tonight." Chiron replied respectfully.

"We know this and have agreed that she can remain in the Hermes cabin until then." Zeus said grudgingly. Chiron nodded before joining me again on the path.

"You know we are going to have to tell the rest of the campers tonight at dinner." He said quietly.

"I know. But could you let me make some friends first?" I pleaded

"You will have met the Hermes cabin, you will stay with them until a new cabin is built for you."

"I know, I kind of heard." I admitted. Chiron looked slightly shocked and impressed but recovered quickly. We stopped walking in front of a noisy cabin, Chiron opened his mouth to say something but just then there was the sound of china smashing followed by a cheer. I felt nervous, really nervous, I didn't know what these kids were going to be like or whether they would like me. Chiron closed his mouth again and patted me on the back before opening the door.

The cheering stopped immediately and two people who had been wrestling on the floor jumped up at the sight of Chiron.

"Campers, this is Isabelle Olympus. She is new here, so I expect you to make her feel welcome." Chiron said.

"Is she one of us or undetermined?" a camper asked.

"You'll have to wait to find out what she is." Chiron hadn't lied but had just implied something, which they had misinterpreted. They were a few grumbles of 'they're never one of us'. With that Chiron walked out of the room and left me alone with everyone starring at me. A boy who looked like he was 16 came forward and introduced himself.

"Hi, I'm Henry. You're Isabelle, right?" He said whilst holding out his hand.

"Izzy." I corrected him as I shook the out stretched hand. He smiled and led me to the last available bed in the packed cabin. It was clear that more bunks had been put in as more campers arrived and now they were running out of space.

"Well, this'll be your bunk. How long have you known that you were one of us?" He asked sitting down next to me on the bed.

"About 3 days." I replied.

"It can be quite overwhelming can't it?" He sympathised. "Did you believe it when you found out?"

"Not at first." I admitted "But the monsters kind of convinced me."

"You've met some? What were they like?" He asked enthralled.

"Terrifying." I said simply.

"I should introduce you to everyone." He said remembering the others whose eyes hadn't stopped scrutinizing me yet. He told me everyone's names as he pointed to them, there were about twenty people. "You've probably forgotten them all already." Henry said smiling.

"Want to bet?" I challenged. He seemed shocked by it for a second before a smug expression crossed his face.

"Alright," he said "I bet that you can't name everyone in this cabin. The loser has to do washing up duty by themselves." He said slyly. There was an 'ooh' from the crowd, apparently this was interesting to watch.

"Okay." I said and shook his hand again. There were chuckles from the rest of the cabin, thinking that I was bound to lose. It was fun watching their faces as I repeated their names perfectly. Shock was plastered on all of their faces. "Did I forget to mention I had a pretty much perfect memory?" I said cheekily. Henry started to chuckle and he ruffled my hair, as the others started taunting him about doing the washing up by himself. Just then a horn blew and Henry made everyone line up outside, I was at the back of the line but I didn't mind. I was too busy worrying if they would be this nice to me once they knew the truth.

We walked into an area that had twelve tables, most of them already had kids sat at them. I followed my line to a table and sat down at the end next to Henry. We were chatting easily, when Chiron stood up at the main table and silence fell immediately. I held my breath, waiting for him to mention me, but he didn't he just said

"To the gods." This was echoed by the rest of the campers. I let out my breath when food was brought to our tables by people who had just walked out of the trees. I mean literally they walked out of the trunks of the trees. Everyone stood up with their plates of food and went to the fire in the middle of the area. They scraped off some of their food then said the name of a god, when it came to me I muttered a 'to my parents'.

We were laughing at joke Henry had told when Chiron stood up again, I knew that this time he would tell them. So I stopped laughing and starred at the table, suddenly feeling a bit sick. I was just getting accepted by them and I was about to be alienated from them. They were the only friends I really had and now I was going to lose them, they would think I was a freak, I was sure. Henry noticed my distress and nudged me, mouthing the words 'are you alright?' I nodded but he didn't seem convinced, frowning he turned back to Chiron, not pressing the matter.

"As some of you will have noticed, we have a new camper with us today. We would like everyone to make Isabelle Olympus feel welcome here." Chiron started, I could feel everyone's eyes on me but I didn't dare look up from the table. "Izzy is a special girl, for she is not your average demigod." I could feel my cheeks go bright red, and my shoulders hunch slightly. I knew I was starting to sink down in my chair to avoid the stares which were directed at me. "You see, she is the daughter of not one Olympian god but all of them." There were gasps from everyone and I tried to shrink even lower. "They sort help from a witch, and they became the parents of Izzy. Her parents include Hestia and Hades, as well. They have all requested that she should have her own cabin, in which they are all recognised, this will be a job for the Hephaestus cabin, but until then she shall remain with the Hermes cabin. At meal times she shall rotate tables. I hope that you all make her feel at home here." With that Chiron sat down but talking didn't start up again until Dionysus coughed significantly. I'm sure that every conversation started was about me, but I was just glad that they weren't starring at me, so I sat up a little straighter and dared to look up from the table. Everyone was looking at me, making me wish that I hadn't looked up, luckily Henry came to my rescue by announcing that the Athena cabin wanted to make a deal with the Hermes cabin for capture the flag tomorrow, diverting the focus away from me. I mouthed a 'thank you' in his direction, he chuckled and said "you're welcome" out loud.

No one had asked me any questions, but I knew they all wanted to, so I wasn't surprised when we were back in the cabin and a group of girls came up to me and asked if they could ask questions. Henry came by and told them no and to go away, but I thought that there was no point in delaying it, they would ask them at some point. So I told them that they could ask questions but that I didn't know a lot about myself either. As soon as I had given permission for questions everyone in the cabin had joined the group and were listening.

"How did it work?" One person asked.

"I don't know, they got a witch and I think she made a potion using a few of their hairs for DNA or something."

"Have you met them all?" Another asked.

"Yeah, about 2 hours ago." I said.

"Who's your favourite?" Someone asked. Thunder boomed overhead and the wind battered the cabin.

"I don't have a favourite, and I don't think it would be wise for me to ever have one either." I said as the rest of the cabin was looking at the roof a little scared.

"Can you do anything cool?" Someone else asked.

"I have powers from each of my parents."

"Are you a demigod?"

"No, not really. I'm kind of a goddess, but I won't be an official one until I'm 16. I get to choose what I'm going to be the goddess of too." That seemed to shock them, there was silence for a little and then the questioning continued.

"Can you tell us about your journey here?" Henry asked from next to me. I told them the whole story, and even got out the stinger from my bag. After a few more questions Henry called lights out causing everyone to groan at him.

"Night Izzy." They all said, before parting to their own beds. I was so glad that they hadn't just avoided me like I had expected. I fell asleep with a smile still on my face, I knew that I could face what everyone else was saying because I had friends in cabin eleven.

The next morning I woke up early, most of the other kids were still sleeping, but there was a girl in the bed opposite me who was awake. She was brushing her hair and noticed that I had woken up.

"Do you want any breakfast?" I nodded and quickly got dressed. I followed her back to the area where I had had dinner the previous night and had a large breakfast. Chiron trotted up to my table just as I was finishing.

"Can I have a word with you, Izzy?" I got up and walked beside him down by a lake, he handed me a piece of paper that had my schedule on it. "You will be doing that most days with a few variations. Every morning you will go to Lily, an Athena child, she will teach you about ancient Greek stories and the language. Then you will do the activities with various other cabins. You will join the Athena cabin for capture the flag tonight, but each time you will change. The Hephaestus cabin has already started plans with some of Athena's children about your cabin."

After Chiron had walked off I headed in the direction of Athena's cabin. I knocked lightly on the door and pocked my head around it. There was only one girl sitting in there, she looked up from the book she was reading and smiled at me.

"Hi, are you Lily?" I asked her, whilst stepping inside. She nodded and put her book aside. She had blond hair and grey eyes like most of Athena's children and she was about my age.

"Yes, has Chiron told you what we are going to be doing here?" She asked me.

"Yeah, he said you were going to teach me about ancient Greek."

"So shall we get started?" She asked enthusiastically. When it was time for me to go she had taught me many stories and also a fair bit about the language. But what had surprised me was that I already knew the language. I knew everything about it, including grammar and pronunciation, I had never learnt any of it before but I already understood it. Lily explained that most demigods had a similar thing, their brains were hardwired for ancient Greek, but we figured out that unlike other demigods I didn't have dyslexia or ADHD. I really liked Lily, she was so lively and excited about everything she did, she reminded me of a puppy.

When I left I looked at the piece of paper Chiron had given me and headed over to the arena for sword fighting with cabin eleven. Henry found me some armour and said that he'd be my partner. He was also leading the lesson so we did most of the demonstrations, we found out that I was pretty good at. I disarmed Henry my first try, which caught everyone completely off guard. They stood there starring at me for a while making me so uncomfortable that I actually apologised. Henry paired me with someone else as he went around inspecting how the others were doing. We started fighting like everyone else, when my new partner accidently cut me, quite badly on the leg. It was a deep gash and a fair amount of blood was pouring out. Everyone stopped when they heard me cry out in pain and rushed to see if I was alright.

"I'm. Okay." I managed to get out between gritted teeth. "Can. Someone. Pass. Me. The water bottle?" Someone ran out of the circle of people around me and returned with a water bottle. I took and poured some of it onto my wound, which immediately started to close up. Everyone watched as the wound turned into a thin pink line and then eventually disappeared all together. There was a minute of silence as everyone took in what I had just done. How had I known I could do that? I sent a silent thank you to Poseidon before standing up and carrying on with the lesson. Henry made me do everything over and over again, with repetition after repetition for each move. I was exhausted by the end of it, but I had to go straight over to the archery range. I joined the Apollo kids there for a lesson on archery. They gave me a bow and arrow and explained to me how to hold it. I fitted an arrow, drew it back and let it whistle past my ear. It landed in the very centre of the target, the next one did the same. The cabin leader, Peter, was taking the lesson and was standing over me, looking impressed.

"Okay, Izzy, I want you to try and split the arrow you just shot with this one." He said and I felt my jaw drop, he chuckled. "I want you to be as accurate as you can. You're a great archer and I want to know how good you can be." I took a deep breath and fitted another arrow. I was aware that everyone else had stopped their practice and was watching me. I concentrated on the tip of the last arrow and let go, it sailed straight to the target and cut the arrow in half. Peter made me do it almost as many times as Henry had made me repeat a move in sword fighting.

I had to go to the stables after that, but it didn't say what for on my schedule. When I got there I learned that it was for learning to ride a Pegasus, which is a winged horse named after Hercules'. As I got closer to eat I heard a voice speaking but didn't know where it was coming from. I then realised that it was inside my head and that it was a Pegasus speaking.

Hey kid. The voice said. Are you here for a riding lesson? I nodded. Then hop on board. She said bending her neck down, in a gesture for me to get on. I walked around and got on the white horse.

"Shouldn't there be some other people here?" I asked confused as to whether the horse was meant to be my teacher.

No. They have their lessons later. Chiron knew that you were a child of Poseidon, so he knew that you would be able to talk to us. So we are going to be your teachers, which I think is the best choice. I guess that made sense. The horse who told me her name was Sky Dancer, then told me how to steer and give directions, before she took off into the air and let me find out for myself. I loved soaring around in the sky, swerving in and out of trees and nose diving done, pulling out at the last second. Sky Dancer seemed to be enjoying herself too, stretching her wings and neighing occasionally. I was upset when we had to land, but I knew I'd be back tomorrow.

I headed off towards lunch and sat with at the Athena table, which seemed to have come in at the same time as me. I then went down to the lake and joined the Ares cabin for their canoeing lesson. At the end there was a race, which I won by quite a distance, but as the others pointed out it wasn't fair because the water Naiads wanted me to win too, so they helped me and I subconsciously got the water to push me along faster as well. My last thing was rock climbing with Athena's cabin, but it had a twist of molten lava chasing you. I managed to get up quickly enough though so as not to have to worry about it. When I hauled myself over the top, I high-fived Lily who had been watching and encouraging me.

I followed Lily back to the woods were there was a crowd of people. Apparently it was time for capture the flag, but Lily said that you had to be older to take part, because it wasn't fair if there was a 16 year old fighting and 8 year old. Chiron spotted us in the crowd and made his way over to us.

"Ah, Izzy, I was hoping to catch you. Okay, this is going to be quite hard but I want to see if you can change your form like the gods can. Okay, I talked to Dionysus earlier and he said you have to imagine your whole body changing, expanding, growing or shrinking, whatever you want to happen. You need to try and appear older. If you can, you can join in with the others." I closed my eyes and tried to do what he had suggested. I opened them when I heard a gasp from next to me, I looked down at myself and instead of me being there I was taller and older. My clothes and armour had grown with me which surprised me. That was surprisingly easy, I looked at Chiron who smiled at me as though he knew that I would do it. I joined the Athena Cabin's side against Ares'.

I was put on defending the flag at Zeus' fist, with another kid from Apollo's cabin. I was really nervous, I didn't know what to expect. We stood there waiting for about five minutes before the other kid thought he heard something so dashed off into the forest leaving me to guard the flag by myself. Just then three kids ran out of the forest, and smiled when they saw there was only me guarding it. Two of them charged at me, whilst the other tried to dodge around me to the flag, but I wasn't just about to let that happen, so I raised my hand in his direction. A wall of water was suddenly in the way of him and the flag and moved with him when he tried to dodge around it. I turned my attention back to the other two. I deflected the first one's strike at me with my sword and then hit him with the hilt of my sword in the middle of his face, knocking him off balance. He stumbled back a few steps and I elbowed the other one in the face whilst knocking his armour on the back of his legs forcing him to fall to his knees. The first one had come back and had cut my forearm accidently as his sword slid down from mine as they connected. I didn't feel the pain, I was too into what was happening. I wacked him round the head and he fell over and hit his head on a rock, blood started dribbling out of his nose and he seemed dazed, he didn't attack again. In the mean time the other one had stood up and charged at me again. I deflected him easily again and he too fell over and didn't get up again. Then I turned to the guy trying to fight the water, unsuccessfully. I disarmed him easily and picked up his sword, forcing him to surrender. It was only then that I realised I had an audience. A group of people from my team were watching what I had been doing, stunned. Just then the rest of the team charged into the clearing with the other flag, cheering. Henry was holding it and he saw me standing over a disarmed person with their sword and two others dazed on the floor, he smiled at me and gave me the thumbs up. I became my size again and was about to join the celebration, when I remembered that the people I had fought were hurt. I knelt next to the one that had a nose bleed and touched his nose closing my eyes. I felt the cool water come out of my fingers and encase his nose only for a second before leaving him perfectly dry and healed, I did the same for the others who I had injured and myself. When I looked up I saw that everyone was looking at me.

"What?" I asked. Henry laughed, stepped forward and ruffled my hair again. I followed everyone down to dinner where I sat at Athena's table again, where I learnt that what I had done wasn't normal.

"That was amazing!" Said someone who had been watching, he went on to explain to everyone else in detail what I had done. Everyone seemed very impressed, and wanted to know how I'd done it. I honestly told them that I had no clue, but it was sort of reflex.

That night before we had to go to bed I went down o the lake and looked out of over it. I wasn't alone long before Chiron joined me.

"What are you thinking about?" He asked me.

"What goddess I want to be." I told him.

"Any ideas yet?" He asked, interested.

"Yeah, I think I want to be the goddess of heroes and training. There isn't one of those is there?"

"No, there isn't."

"I want to be here for them, I mean all those people in Hermes cabin, who aren't claimed, they need someone. But I don't only mean heroes of the Olympian gods, but all gods. They don't have anyone to look out for them and I want to do that." I said,

"I think that is very good idea." He said smiling, with a slightly awed expression. "But I don't think you should tell anyone yet, just in case you change your mind." He suggested. "Now off to bed."

I did what he said but went to bed knowing that I wouldn't change my mind.

AN: I know that Izzy acts fairly old for her age, but this is due to a mixture of both her history with violence and also so as to fit in with the timings of the story.

And Percy does appear in this story, but it starts before Percy arrives at camp.

And also I personally think that this story gets better in later chapters, so please give it a chance!

Thank you for reading
