Isabelle Olympus part 26

Hello! I know that it has been quite a long wait for this chapter but here it is.

A boy was running up the hill towards camp, a woman and Grover following behind him. They were all out of breath and looking over their shoulders in panic every few seconds. I knew that the boy must be Percy Jackson, don't ask me how I knew because I have no clue but I was certain that this was the kid that everyone was so interested in.

"Go Percy! Separate! Remember what I said!" The woman shouted, confirming my suspicions that this was the infamous Percy Jackson. Percy followed the woman's instructions and sprinted forward up the hill, away from her and a limping Grover. It was then that I caught a glimpse of the thing that had been following them, it was the Minotaur. I had heard stories about this creature from Chiron and they weren't nice. The Minotaur was a vicious monster and it was after Percy! This kid seemed to have the worst luck in the world!

The Minotaur charged after Percy, gaining on him quickly, there was no way that a young boy of Percy's age could out run the Minotaur. The monster was closing in, and Percy must have realised this for he stopped and turned to face the oncoming beast. Just when I thought the monster was going to flatten him, Percy jumped out of the way and the Minotaur raced passed him. This kid was clever, maybe that's why he hadn't died yet despite my dads' best efforts.

The Minotaur shifted its focus and started charging in the opposite direction to Percy. What was it doing? Was it confused? I knew that The Minotaur wasn't the smartest of beasts but surely it wasn't that stupid! It wouldn't have gotten such a fearsome reputation if all you had to do to send it running was jump out of its way. No, something was up. It was then that I noticed its new target. The woman. The monster was now heading straight for her and she was trying to back away slowly. Probably trying to not make any sudden movements to attract the thing as it is commonly known that the monster doesn't have very good eye sight. But it was too late for that now, it knew where she was.

The monster grabbed her around the neck and started to choke her. She was flailing her limbs in the air but it was useless, she wasn't doing any damage.

"Mom!" Percy shouted desperately. So the woman was Percy's mother then? That made sense I guess. It also explained how she might have known about the Minotaur's bad eye sight.

The woman managed to choke out a quiet "Run" before she dissolved into a shimmering light and disappeared. What in Styx's name just happened there?! Where did the woman go? It was like she became a hologram and then just vanished. That was very strange.

The monster then started heading towards where Grover had passed out on the grass, probably planning on doing the same light thing to him too, but Percy leapt into action. He shouted to gain the beast's attention and ripped off his jacket which had a red lining and started to wave it around like a bullfighter. Okay, I take back the clever comment I made earlier, was he really trying to lure the monster towards him with a red jacket? It's not a bull! However Percy's shouts seemed to do the trick as the monster was now running at him.

Milliseconds before he became the Minotaur version of road-kill Percy jumped up and kind of used the beast's head as a springboard and propelled himself onto the monster's back. And let me tell you now that the monster didn't appreciate this. It roared and bucked but Percy somehow managed to stay on. Percy then started to pull at one of the monster's horns, trying to get it off, I think. It must have been working as the beast's roars got louder, in pain presumably, and it managed to throw Percy off of its back and onto the grass a fair few metres away.

The fall must have injured Percy as he took a while to sit up and when he did the Minotaur was already barrelling straight towards him. He instinctively rolled out of the way and thrust something up into the monster's side causing it to howl in pain. What was it? Was it a rock? No it looked to round to be that. It was then that I noticed the Minotaur now only had one horn on its head. Percy had managed to dislodge it and then stab it with its own horn. I was very impressed to say the least. This kid was a natural. I have spent ages training demigods to fight like that and I still have loads that are pretty useless in a fight, but this kid hasn't had any lessons but can do that! No wonder Grover thought he was something special.

The monster let out one last scream before disintegrating. Percy seemed to wobble on his feet and he leaned on a nearby tree to support himself. It was clear to see that he was injured, the fight with the Minotaur had taken its toll on him and he clung to his side which was bleeding. But I don't think it was the pain that had him leaning on the tree for support. His shoulders started to shake as he cried and screamed for his mum. He was grieving. This kid needed me. Badly.

I snapped my eyes open and pushed myself up into a sitting position. I was sweating and panting as I looked around, realising that I was actually in my bed in my cabin and not on the camp hill. I leapt out of bed and ran out of my cabin. That may have been a dream, but I was certain that it was no ordinary dream. That had really happened and Percy was here at camp, and he needed my help.

I think I made to the top of half blood hill in record time, I was so desperate to help Percy, he looked so broken in my dream. But it was no wonder why, his mum had just died right in front of him.

I found him limping in the direction of camp carrying an unconscious Grover on his shoulder. This kid really was something, here he was badly injured after defeating a monster and grieving over his mother but still he carries his friend to safety.

Relief was clear on his face when he saw me approaching, but exhaustion was not far behind it, this kid was killing himself with the effort it was taking him to haul Grover's body with him. I immediately lifted Grover up into my arms and shot out a hand to steady Percy who was swaying dangerously on his feet.

"Monster ... Back there ... My mom ... Help her." Percy managed to say between his pants for breath. He was working himself up into hysterics and panicking, he needed to relax or else he would hyperventilate.

"Percy please try to relax, you're safe now, you've made it to camp half-blood. My name is Isabelle Olympus, I'm here to help you." I said soothingly, hoping that my words would calm him because right now he looked on the verge of a panic attack, but who could blame him? He's had to take in a lot and all in one day.

"Mom..." Percy started to say but trailed off as he lost consciousness. I reacted quickly and pulled a stretcher out of thin air which caught him just before he hit the floor. At least I could save him from one injury tonight, he wouldn't have an egg sized bruise on his head tomorrow morning to go with the other wounds that he sustained during his (impressive) fight with the Minotaur.

I started to walk back to camp having the wind carry Percy's stretcher just behind me as my arms were full with Grover's body. I took both of the boys straight to the infirmary to rest and recover, they were going to need all of their strength tomorrow. Percy's going to have to try and fit in in camp where there are such big expectations of him, and Grover ... Well Grover's probably going to have to face the council of cloven elders ... Again. The poor kid doesn't seem to have much luck at this, and he's so determined to get his searchers licence too. I don't think he'll ever get it now. Not when the council hears that the demigod that he was protecting ended up protecting him.

Once I had them both laid up in a bed each I went to Chiron's cabin, he'd definitely like to know that Percy Jackson had arrived at camp.

Chiron was surprised to say the least to find me banging on his door so late at night, but he was even more surprised when I explained myself.

"He's here? Percy Jackson is here? And he killed the Minotaur? Is this some kind of joke? Because if it is it's not very funny, Izzy." Chiron said still rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"It's not a joke. I'm being serious, Percy Jackson is unconscious in our infirmary!" I tried to convince him but he was still looking at me as though he was expecting me to start laughing and say 'just kidding! Gotcha!' So I rolled my eyes and started to drag him to where I'd just left the two boys, hoping that if he saw them lying there he might actually believe me.

When he saw the two unconscious boys his eyes widened from shock. Did he really think that I would joke about there being a dire situation that needed his supervision in the middle of the night just for the enjoyment of dragging him out of bed? Actually that does sound quite funny ... Maybe I should try that sometime. Maybe I could get him to believe that the Ares cabin had started a revolt against the Hermes cabin as they were bitter over losing capture the flag last week. Yeah that could work!

Focus Izzy! Chiron is talking to you!

"We should leave them to rest. There's not much that we can do for them when they aren't awake. We'll just have to keep an eye on them and maybe try to feed Percy some ambrosia and nectar, it would speed up his healing process a lot." Chiron instructed, his business head on as always. I nodded along agreeing with his suggestions, whilst my eyes were fixed on Percy. He was such a young kid and yet he had already done something amazing. I couldn't wait to start training him up, he was going to be a great fighter, I could tell. Maybe he could be a special demigod, Grover and Chiron both seemed to think that he was important. Could he possibly be a child of one of the big three? It would mean that one of them had broken the treaty they'd made to not have any more children, but it was certainly a possibility, the gods were never any good at sticking to the rules, they always thought that they were above them and could do whatever it was that they wanted so I wouldn't put it past any of them. I turned around to look at Chiron only to find him already walking towards the door. Was he going to just leave them? I guess he was right, there was nothing that we could do for them right now but I still didn't want to leave them alone when they'd only just gotten here. It didn't feel quite right, but I knew that there was no use in waiting here for them to wake up as it could be hours until that happened. But what if Percy woke up and he was all alone, and didn't know where he was? He would probably be scarred and after what happened with his mum I don't want him to feel alone.

"I think I'm just going to spend the night here." I called out to Chiron's retreating back. This seemed to shock him and he turned around.

"Why would you do that? There's nothing we can do for them yet, you might as well have a good nights sleep in your own bed." Chiron tried to reason with me and I knew what he was saying made sense but I had made up my mind and I wasn't going to change it.

"I know, but would you like to wake up in a strange place all alone and not really understand what in Styx's name you are?" I asked him, defending my decision.

"Your hearts too big for your own good, you know that?" Chiron said with a small proud smile on his face.

"I'll see you in the morning." I said, choosing to ignore his last comment as I had no clue what to say back to that.

"Good night Izzy" Chiron said as he closed the door behind him, shutting me into the infirmary.

I looked around the room, trying to decide which of the many free beds to claim as my own. I knew from experience that none of them were particularly comfy but I was hoping that they had somehow become softer since the last time I'd been in one. My hopes were proven wrong as I slipped into a lumpy bed near the window, only a few beds down and across from Percy and Grover's beds. I wanted to be able to hear if either of them needed me during the night. I punched the pillow a few times in an attempt to soften it but all that happened was that I made an indent of my fist in the hard cushion a few times.

Sleep didn't come easily to me that night, I lay tossing and turning for a long time. Every time I grew close to falling asleep I'd hear something that would make me think that either Percy or Grover had woken up, so I sat bolt up right and I would be just about to leap out of bed when I'd realise that they were still asleep and that my ears were playing tricks on me. When I finally did fall asleep though, it wasn't peaceful. My dreams were filled with images of Percy being attacked by various monsters and I was trying to help him but he was still getting hurt no matter what I did.

I woke up panting and slightly sweaty. Eww. This Percy was really messing with my head. I looked out the window to see that the sun was up, good. I didn't want to have to try and get back to sleep again, as I don't know how many more times I could see Percy being killed by monsters in my dreams. I looked over to his bed just to make sure that they had just been dreams and that Percy was fine and I was relieved to see that not only was he still in the bed that I had left him in last night but he was also still breathing.

I looked out of the window again but this time I wasn't looking at the sky, but rather the tall pine on the top of the hill. Thalia. I hadn't been able to save her and that still killed me. I wasn't quick enough. I should have been. I should have been able to save her. It was my duty to look after her and I had failed. She had popped up in a couple of my dreams last night. They were the worst ones as I was forced to remember my greatest failure. The Minotaur attack on Percy had been so similar to that night, I wasn't there to help either of them when they needed me most, I could only get there in time to pick up the pieces. Maybe if I'd woken up sooner I'd have been able to save Percy's mum. Maybe if I'd gotten up that hill quicker Thalia would still be here at camp.

Ugh! I couldn't keep doing this to myself. I need to stop filling my head with all these 'maybe's and 'what if's. What's done is done and as much as I want to, I can't change that.

I got out of bed and went back to my cabin for a couple of minutes to change my clothes and have a shower. On my way back to the infirmary I swung past the dining area to grab something for breakfast. Not many people were there as it was still quite early but I waved to the few that were around. Annabeth was one of them and she came up to talk to me.

"Hey Izzy, do you know what's up with Luke? He's been acting a bit strange recently." She asked curiously. Uh oh. This wasn't good. She had noticed that he was being shifty. Obviously I knew why, he was turning away from the gods and listening to evil, but she'd didn't and I wanted it to stay that way.

"In what way?" I asked trying to hide the panic I was feeling at her question.

"He's been very secretive recently and he's hiding away in the Hermes cabin a lot." Annabeth explained, but her voice wasn't suspicious at all, merely concerned. She cared for Luke a lot, it would crush her when she found out about his destiny.

"I'm sure it's nothing to worry about." I lied "isn't your birthday coming up soon? Maybe he's planning something for that." I suggested, hoping that this would appease her and it seemed to be working but she was still frowning. I decided to change the subject, hoping to get her mind off of Luke for a few seconds. "Hey could you do me a favour? There's a kid in the infirmary who came to camp last night and who needs some ambrosia and nectar to heal. I need to talk to Chiron quickly so could you possibly give it to him." I could see that she wasn't keen so I quickly added "Grover is there too." After that she eagerly agreed. Annabeth didn't get to see Grover much because he didn't come to camp all that often so she was keen to see her friend again.

She sped off in the direction of the infirmary as fast as she could causing me to chuckle at her enthusiasm. I changed course and decided to check in with Chiron. I found him reading a bit of parchment which had some fancy ink writing scribbled on it.

"What's that?" I asked making Chiron jump about a foot in the air. He obviously hadn't heard me come in.

"Have you ever heard of knocking?" Chiron scolded me.

"Yeah but where's the fun in that? Anyway you're avoiding the question, what's on the fancy paper?" I said with a cheeky grin.

"Oh, it's a copy of the great prophecy. Remember, I told you about it before. Percy's arrival just reminded me of it. I can't help but think that Percy really could be this kid. If he's a special demigod like Grover believes then its very likely that he could be the child spoken about in the prophecy." Chiron said, sounding completely exhausted as he handed the prophecy to me to read.

'A half-blood of the eldest gods

shall reach sixteen against all odds

And see the world in endless sleep

The hero's soul, cursed blade shall reap

A single choice shall end his days

Olympus to preserve or raze'

"I didn't think I was ever going to say this but Chiron, I hope you're wrong." I muttered quietly. If this kid in the prophecy was Percy, then he was going to die in four years, he'd only live to sixteen. That didn't seem fair at all seeing as how I have eternity stretching out in front of me and this demigod would only get sixteen short years on this earth before he died. The only consolation I could think of was that he could save Olympus, he could die a hero. A small reward, I know, but still it was something at least.

"I hope that I'm wrong too. Because now would not be the right time for a child of the big three to make his appearance. Things in Olympus are too fragile for that bombshell to be dropped too." Chiron murmured quietly. He was right, what with the master bolt missing and Zeus ready to stage an all-out war to get it back things in Olympus were tense to say the least, the last thing that we needed is to find out a pact has been broken and a powerful demigod is hanging around.

"Have you heard Zeus' latest demand? He's ordered Poseidon to return his master bolt by the summer solstice or else he'll start preparing for war." I told Chiron whilst rubbing my forehead to get rid of the headache I could feel coming on.

"The summer solstice? But that's only a few weeks away! How can Zeus expect anything to happen before then?" Chiron cried out desperately, knowing as well as I did that the likelihood of the master bolt turning up in those few short weeks was minuscule.

"I know." I said quietly, meeting Chiron's gaze. In that look we both knew what was coming. A war was going to start. There was no way around it. Zeus wouldn't accept that Poseidon didn't have the master bolt and Poseidon would never admit to having it. We were at an impasse. Neither god would be willing to back down.

A shuffling noise from outside Chiron's door caught my attention. Somebody was out there. Chiron must have heard it too as a look of panic crossed his face as he came to the same thought that I had. The person outside the door was most probably a camper and it was very likely that they had heard our conversation.

I quickly strode towards the door and opened it, praying to any and all of my parents that there was nobody there and that we were imagining things. However, my parents must not have been listening as when I opened the door, I found Annabeth there with a very guilty expression on her face.

"I just came to ask for the key to the cupboard with the ambrosia and nectar in it." She said trying to justify herself, but we all knew that she had been eavesdropping. Chiron appeared over my shoulder handing her the key that she needed and she quickly scuttled off after that, leaving Chiron and I to wonder at the consequences of what had just happened.

"How much do you think she heard?" I asked quietly, but I didn't really want to know the answer.
