The Guise of Forgetfulness

The Guise of Forgetfulness

©April 30th '22, Olan L. Smith

I'd like to see more clearly the faces,

I'd like the Human Collective Memory

To remember why past wars occurred,

What our constitution really says in-depth.

Dip not my face in the façade of forgetfulness,

Don't cover my memories in bronze or chrome,

Don't clip my wings before my time,

Lift me beyond the haze that covers the mirror

In the rich humidity of time, and make my

Memories clearer than a cold and moonless

Night in December, make the stars

A single point of light in the blackness

That I might remember my mother's face.
