Part 9: Causality and Outcome
Science is saying, more and more, there is no such thing as freewill and that everything is mathematically scripted. How is it that we know what words to say six or seven seconds before the question is asked? Or for that matter which direction to turn to avoid an accident before it happens? If we are holographic projections, perhaps the script is already written for these events and we are just mindless actors acting. I would have argued tooth and nail with someone who even suggested determinism over freewill, and mindlessness a couple of years ago and did, but now I am not so sure. Einstein wrote to Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore and said, "...the influence of alcohol and other sharply controllable factors on our thoughts, feelings, and activities, should show very distinctly that determinism does not stop before the majesty of our human will."
The actors of this insanity of terrorism and mindless attacks on civilians are in essence playing a role written for them, and in hindsight we cannot prove any different as I have already written this message before I wrote it, and my mind is just catching up. We would have to get our hands on the script to know for sure if we have freewill, and since we cannot, we are left with at least the illusion of freewill as a possibility, so we might as well believe in it, because what difference does it make to the individual actor. Is it fate or was it an accident of circumstances, but it doesn't matter in the long run, since it has happened, and we don't deal with what ifs, only what is.
Does it really matter? If we are only holograms, it doesn't matter what we do. Right? To me it does, but to others at the end of their rope who think it is time to end it, and go out with a big bang, it doesn't matter. I used to know a bartender who would say, "If I go out I am going to take a lot of people with me." I don't think that way, not programmed to, but others are for some reason. In moments of insanity, a person can do anything. I watched a highly controlled study on a TV show where they hypnotized participants into killing innocent people, and the participants tried to do just that, go against their own will. Religion, depression, and other events can do the same to us, convince us we are justified in killing. The soldier is programmed to kill. You take a nice boy, and through training, teach him to become a killer. Everyone thinks their cause is justified even when it comes to baseball games or lesser issues like what way the toilet paper should be dispensed. I am not sure of causality but the results are what survivors have to deal with. Perhaps this really is a proving ground and it is a test to see how we respond to stimulus. Or perhaps we are only projections of light; thinking we have mass, but on examination find nothing even at the highest levels of magnification. Is it I think therefore I am, is it I am therefore I think, or is it I think therefore I act?
