Chapter Nine: "then it's the idiot." "Hey-!"

(A/N Read author's note at the end!)

Tenten's POV:

"Achoo!"

My head throbbed, and class wasn't making it much better.

Several "Bless you,"'s could be heard as they floated around the classroom.

"Thanks." I grunted in reply to those anonymous people. Asuma Sensei gave me a concerned glance, but I gave him a weak smile and brushed it off. He shook his head and continued the lesson.

I couldn't blame him. I must have looked almost as horrible as I felt. When I looked into the mirror this morning, I almost didn't recognize myself. My usual tanned skin looked pale. My eyes looked tired and my posture seemed to scream, "I FEEL LIKE SHIT!"

Ignoring the growing pain in my head, I copied notes of the board at a very slow pace. Another wave of pain washed over me mind and in response I gripped my pencil so hard it broke. Every eye in the room seemed to land on the shattered wood scattered on my desk. Opening my hand, I allowed the remaining chips in my hand fall to the treated wood.

"Gomen," I murmured, staring at the repaints of what used to be my only pencil.

Dammit.

"Tenten," I slowly looked up to see Asuma Sensei's worried expression. "Are you sure you don't want to go to the nurse?" Before I could even shake my head he raised his hand. "Never mind. I'm sending you anyway."

I sighed and slowly started packing my belongings.

'This is, by far. The worst Monday I've ever had.'

After Tou-san had picked me up from Hinata's house, I had slept through the rest of the weekend. Only waking up to eat and take medication. I felt fatigued. And overall horrible.

Standing up, I slowly made my way over to the front of the room where Asuma Sensei stood with a pass in his hand. Unfortunately, due to my mind being as scrambled as that fat kids hand in that horror movie Unfriended. I stumbled.

I was expecting this. I had been tripping over my own feet all day. Its like my mind couldn't send the correct orders to my own limbs.

I put out hands to try to ease the fall, but I never touched the ground. I felt strong arms wrap around my torso and keep me from falling. I looked up at my savior expecting to see that familiar long, brown hair. Those deep pale eyes. I was disappointed when I was met with short spiky brown hair and a pair of mischievous dark brown eyes.

I then scowled at myself for feeling disappointed it wasn't Neji. But I couldn't help but feel curious as to who this boy was. He was new, that's for sure.

"Thanks," I said as he helped me to my feet. He grinned. "No problem, beautiful." I involuntarily blushed at the compliment, causing him to chuckle. I was about to step away from him when I felt a deadly aura behind us.

Turning around I saw Neji glaring at the guy who had caught me. He was standing and looked as if he was ready to run in my direction. This of course lead me to believe he was going to catch me before this guy cut in. Taking notice of the murderous look in his eyes, my eye brows furrowed in confusion. He has no reason to be upset.

My attention turned to Asuma Sensei who cleared his throat. "Thank you for your help, Kankuro."

'Kankuro?'

"Would you mind escorting Miss Kunai to the nurses office?" Asume Sensei continued, handing Kankuro the bright pink pass. Kankuro nodded and that's when I noticed his arm still wrapped around my waist. Pushing it away, I stumbled to the door. Taking one last look at Neji's half concerned half enraged expression, I made my way into the empty hall, Kankuro following in suit.

It was only a few seconds after leaving the room when Kankuro had to open his mouth.

"So, gorgeous," he purred, getting a little too close for comfort. "I don't believe we've properly introduced." I scowled at him and moved away the best I could. "No. Guess not."

He grinned and stepped in front of me. "Sabaku no Kankuro, at your service." I continued to walk as I processed the information. He walked in front of me, backwards, with his arms settled behind his neck. A few seconds went by before took one hand away from their comfortable position to gesture as he spoke.

"And you are...?" I glared at him and he shot his hands up in surrender. "Just trying to make conversation." He said, lowering his hands. Kankuro then smirked, "And possibly know who the beautiful girl I'm escorting to the Nurse is."

I rounded a corner and cursed this high school for being so huge. "Kunai," I said. "Kunai Tenten."

It was quiet. I looked to see his reaction but when I did, I held back the urge to punch him in the face. Kankuro was smirking with his hands shoved into his pockets. He had a smug expression on his face. Oh, how much I wanted to smack the shit out of him.

We finally arrived at the nurses office without further discussion. When we did, Kankuro took my hand and kissed the top of it. As he did so, he looked up to me and said, "Feel better, gorgeous." Handing me the pass, he walked away.

I stood there for a moment before snapping out of my daze. Shaking my head at Kankuro's behavior, I walked into the Nurse's office.

'Just what game is he playing at?'

-----------

The next day was fairly interesting.

After sleeping all day after Tuo-san picked me up from school. I felt a lot better. Fun fact: sleep fixes everything.

When I walked into school I was confronted with the same mischievous brown eyes as yesterday.

"Hello again, Gorgeous." Kankuro said, taking my hand and kissing it. I rolled my eyes and pulled my hand away. I pushed him away and settled my hand on my hip.

"Kankuro," I raised a brow at him, "why must you bother me this early in the morning?"

He grinned, showing off his perfect teeth. "Well, you see," the mischievous look in his eyes growing brighter. "I happen to have two tickets to go see a movie over the weekend."

I furrowed my eyebrows before eventually letting out a small chuckle. "Are you asking me out?"

Kankuro stepped closer to me and took my hand. "I believe so." I took a step back and was about to respond when I different voice cut me off.

"Kankuro!" A bold female voice boomed from down the hallway. Both of our heads turned only to see a interesting scene unfolding.

A girl with sandy blonde hair put up in four ponytails was stomping towards us. Along with a red haired boy trailing behind her with some sort of kanji on his forehead. When they got closer I realized it was the kanji for love. The girls loud voice snapped me out of my thoughts as she continued to yell at my counterpart.

"Kankuro! Leave that poor girl alone!" She said, grabbing Kankuro by the collar and pulling her fist back to punch him.

Ginger, (which is what I'm calling the red haired kid now), nodded. "This behavior is unacceptable." His voice was deep and husky, and also strangely attractive. And his eyes; a sea foam blue. Simply brilliant. Such a color would look great as the hilt of a sword.

Pushing that thought away I cleared my throat, just as the girl was about to bring her fist down on his face. Three pairs of eyes settled on me, leaving me uncomfortable.

"Thank you, but I could have handled the situation." I said, trying not to laugh at the relieved expression on Kankuro's face.

The girl looked at me before quickly pulling her fist back again and punching Kankuro in the face. She let go of his collar and he fell to the ground, holding his nose. Shaking her hand, she looked me up and down. The deepness of her teal eyes leaving me feeling vulnerable.

"Yeah, well, it's my job to keep my nii-san in check." She replied, gesturing at the groaning teen on the floor.

I felt my eyes widen, "Nii-san?" I repeated, confusion evident in my face.

The girl raised a brow at me, "Surprised?" I felt my face flush a bit from embarrassment. "Well, it's just that..." I paused, taking a good look at the girl and Kankuro. "You two look nothing alike."

The girl flashed me a grin, "That's the best part!" She gestured to the brunette, slowly standing up beside her. "Why on Earth, would I want to look like him?"

Kankuro opened his mouth to protest, but Ginger cut him off. "That's something I am also thankful for," he added.

Ignoring her brother's complaints, the girl stuck her hand out to me. "Gomen. We were being rude. I, am the one and only Sabaku no Temari. And this," she gestured to Ginger. "is Sabaku no Gaara."

I shook her hand and nodded to Ging- I mean Gaara, in which he returned.

"Anyway," Temari continued, "we're all siblings. I'm the oldest," She gestured to Kankuro, "then it's the idiot."

"Hey-!"

"Then Gaara," She concluded, settling her hands on her waist.

"Kunai Tenten," I said, sending a grin in her direction. She returned it right as the first bell of the day rang.

She sighed, "Well Tenten, I'll see if we can meet up with you during lunch later today. I think we're gonna get along rather well. Don't you agree?" She asked, already turning around to walk to her first class.

I let out a small smirk and nodded, even though I knew she couldn't see it. "I'll see you there."

I saw her ponytails bob up and down and knew she nodded. She walked off with Gaara trailing behind her. I watched them go their separate ways at the end of the hall. It was only then I realized one of the three siblings was still there.

I turned to Kankuro with a questioning look. He smirked, "You know that if you reject me, I have an entire week to bug you." I scowled and he grinned, knowing he had won.

"Hmph!" I crossed my arms and turned on my heel to start walking in the direction of my first period. Barely turning my head, I gave him my answer.

"Fine. But you better leave me alone, pervert."
