Chapter Four: "Damn Hyūga."
Neji's POV:
I sat in my room finishing up the last bit of my homework for the weekend, when the doorbell rang. I sighed and set down my pencil, getting up and exiting my room. I walked through the Hyūga mansion to the front door.
I took a deep breath and fixed a polite but firm rejection in my head to the poor employee who was trying to sell things for their company. I opened the door, not caring to see who it was before starting my sentence.
"I'm sorry. But the Hyūga family-"
"Is not interested in buying anything you have to offer."
My eyes widened when I saw Tenten standing before me. I wiped the surprised look off my face before I took in the sight before me.
Tenten was wearing black skinny jeans and a tight black shirt that showed off her figure. Her buns were messy from her motorcycle helmet, which was being held up using support from her waist and arm. Her other arm had a duffle bag in it and a backpack was on her back.
I fought back the heat that was trying so desperately to show on my cheeks as I looked at her. I glanced outside and found her motorcycle parked on our driveway where it usually is when she visits.
"Well?" She asked a bit annoyed when I didn't let her in.
I glared at her and opened the door wider so she could come in. She walked through the door and I closed it. When I turned around she was looking at me expectantly, aggravation clear on her face.
"What." I said.
I mentally facepalmed.
Wow Neji. So smooth.
She glared at me and held out her douflebag. I blinked before realizing she wanted me to hold it for her.
I scoffed and folded my arms. "I'm not your servant."
"Look, Hyūga. I'm not in the mood." She growled at me. "Can ya just hold it for two seconds?"
It wasn't a question. I sighed and grabbed the bag out of her hand.
She mumbled a thank you and rolled her shoulders back before yelling, "Hinata!!!"
I covered my ears, which were ringing due to how loud she yelled. "Jeez." I mumbled shaking my head. "Have you ever heard of manners?"
She turned around and gave me a sarcastic smile before walking upstairs. I shook my head at her behavior and followed her. She reached Hinata's room and knocked on the door.
A few moments later a tired looking Hinata opened the door. Blinking as she took in Tenten standing in front of her and me behind her holding her bag.
"T-Tenny-chan?" She asked groggily. I resisted the urge to chuckle at my cousin.
Instead Tenten chuckled for me. "Oh, Hinata. Did you seriously decide to take a nap before I arrived?"
"Wha-what?" Hinata asked, shaking her head. "N-no o-of course n-not!"
"Riiggghhhttt." Tenten said sarcastically. "Would you just let me in?"
Hinata blinked then quickly nodded. I watched them disappear into Hinata's room for a second before Tenten appeared in the doorway and stuck out her hand to me. I glared at her and shoved the bag into her arms. Before she could make a smart remark, I turned on my heel and started off to my room.
But not missing the, "Damn Hyūga." Tenten muttered as she went back inside Hinata's room, closing the door.
I sauntered back to my room and proceeded to finish my homework.
---
I politely put another bite of rice into my mouth and let it sit for a second before chewing. Dinner was fine. As it always was with the chefs we have at the mansion. But whenever Tenten stayed the night dinner was always more... What's the word? Interesting.
You see, my uncle had several swords or just weapons in general hung up around the mansion in cases. And almost every time Tenten visited there would be a new weapon. In a new case.
Upon seeing this Tenten would stare at it for roughly 17.4 seconds before snapping her fingers and yelling, "Got it!" Then she would ramble on about what year it was made, what it was made for, who made it, what culture it came from, and anything you could think of. She would even go as far as naming every thing that was put into it to make it.
This very fine evening Tenten was rambling about the new katana hanging on the wall of the dining room. I glanced at my cousin, Hanabi only to find her nodding and clinging to every word that tumbled out of Tenten's mouth. Hinata however was whispering to her father, my uncle. While he watched Tenten with an amused look. And me? I just wanted to have a peaceful meal.
"Obviously the red bandages around the handle held meaning. A handle like that was put on a sword for a fighter of great importance. So..."
I zoned out, not paying attention to Tenten's weapon factoids.
I shoved another bite of rice into my mouth and my thoughts drifted off to Tenten herself instead of her facts. There was a dance coming up soon. I wanted to ask her to it. But it seems I've only mad her dislike me more. Maybe I could try being nicer to her. But what if she suspects I have feelings for her? That wouldn't be good. Wait. But I would be asking her to the dance anyway. She would know I have feelings for her then.
Jeez Neji. Such an idiot.
"Neji-sama?"
My head snapped up only to find the table was empty and a maid was standing before me holding the dishes from everybody else. Areni. Yes that was her name. She was one of the head maids. She had short black hair and bright blue eyes.
Areni titled her head to the side a little bit. "Are you alright, Sir?"
I shook my head and set my fork down on my now empty plate. Standing up I nodded to her and pushed my seat back under the table. "Yes I'm fine. Arigato. I didn't intend to make you wait to clean up."
I made eye contact with her and noticed her cheeks were slightly rosy.
"N-no problem, Sir." She stuttered being her head to me.
I nodded to her once again when she looked up before heading to my room. I sighed closing my door behind me. I glanced at my clean and organized room before walking over to my bathroom.
I tugged of my t-shirt and ruffled my long hair. Setting my hands down on the sink I looked into the mirror and sighed. I pulled of the rest of my clothes and stepped into the shower. I washed my self off and jumped out of the shower and quickly got dressed. I was drying my long hair with a towel when my phone buzzed on my dresser.
Message From: Naruto
Hey Neji! Don't forget about the park tomorrow!
I groaned out loud as I read the message. I really didn't feel like going. Especially if Tenten was here. I could try to become friends with her and stop acting like a complete jerk.
Outgoing message:
Yeah. Gomen, Naruto. I don't think I will be attending.
I set my phone down and proceeded to brush my hair when my phone buzzed again.
Message From: Naruto
Ehhhh? Why not? We've all been planning this for a while! U have to come! Besides. The girls are coming to. So it won't just be us boys.
My eyes widened. The girls were going too? Which meant Tenten was going.
I thought for a second before replying.
Outgoing Message:
Fine. I'll go. And it's, 'too'. Not 'to'.
Message From: Naruto
Yeah yeah. Whatever. See u then!
I resisted the urge to correct Naruto's grammar and instead put my phone on its charger. I plopped down in my bed and pulled the covers over my body. Slowly letting sleep have its way with me.
