Strength Of A Heart
Skye marched up the hill, ready to sell her first batch of cookies! She was so frickin' excited that she would get some money for her troupe and give a good person delicious cookies in return. She took a deep breath to calm down, she didn't want to get to excited, her heart problem and all.
Deep breath. "One!"
Deep breath. "Two!"
Deep breath. "Three!"
Deep breath. "Four..."
"I'm ready!" She squealed, running towards the big scary house infront of her.
"This is it! The day I've been waiting for. Wishing, hoping, working and praying for! The day my parents have been delaying for years. Ooh! I'm gonna sell some cookies." Skye spun around and threw her back pack in the air, catching it in her hands.
"It's not their fault that they're overprotective, I was born with arrhythmia- my heart is defective! Only takes one shock, and I could be dead from the fear. Still, I'm gonna sell some cookies!" Skye smiled at the thought of her parents, they really did care for her a lot. She was a bit confused that they sent her out on her own, she could handle her arrhythmia but she still assumed they would come with some sort of medical stuff.
But that was none of her concern right now!
"Hike by hike, song by song. The Girl Scouts helped my heart grow strong! They had my back if anything went wrong with me! OOooOoOOOoHH!!" Skye's eyes widened as she explored her big bag of goodies.
"Jamborees! Soda pop, distract me from the fact that my heart could stop! From tetralogy of Fallot in my pulmonary artery! WHEE!" She twirled and ran around some more before she actually decided to ring the doorbell. No ringing yet!
"When you're a Girl Scout, everything's gonna work out! Even if you're born with congenital heart disease and you could be killed by a random sneeze! You're a Girl Scout. And everything's gonna work out! Just gonna ring the bell of this creepy looking house.." Skye pressed her finger against the doorbell and waited for someone to answer.
"Hello, little girl." Skye looked up to see a dark haired girl with a big hat. She looked in the girl's eyes, woah, she had pretty eyes. She had pretty hair. She had pretty lips. She had a pretty face! She was pretty! Skye let out a noise of excitement no human could decipher the meaning of.
"Ooh- um! Yes, um, hi! My name, Skye! And I'm here today to support the Girl Scouts by selling cookies!" She shook the box in her hand in her face with a huge smile.
"Four dollars a box! Would ya like some?" Skye knew how cookie business worked. The girl would say no and Skye would never see her again.
"Sure." She smirked, Skye gasped at this.
"Really!?"
"Yeah, what flavors ya got?" The mysterious female tilted her head. Skye giggled as she pulled out some cookies from her backpack.
"Well, I've got Chocolate, Banana and Oatbran, Pecan! Samoas and Thin Mints! And one that tastes like Apple Pie!" Skye hugged her cookies, she loved cookies! Cookies were the freakin' best! Cookies made her feel so happy and warm inside, and talking about them with her fellow Girl Scouts made her feel even better!
"Why don't you come inside?" The girl opened the door more, motioning for Skye to step in.
"Well, we're really not supposed to."
"Why?"
"Pedophiles." Syke's smile turned into a blank expression, the girl infront of her sighed and nodded. Skye watch a sad expression appear on her face as she slowly walked inside. Oh no, she had to do something! Sad people make her sad!
"BUT! It's so cold and, you're not mean." Syke smiled, fiddling with her fingers. "And no one gets molested by a gothy teen. So I guess, okay! It's fine!" Skye grabbed the door and opened it fully. The girl's smile returned.
"Yeah?" She questioned, Skye nodded. Skye walked into the house with a bounce in each step.
"Alright! I'll come inside!" Skye looked around and a shiver was sent down her spine. This house was spooky, really spooky. And Skye didn't like spooky things but she was willing to do it if that meant she was going to get a new friend!
"It's so dark in here..." Skye held on to herself as she heard footsteps behind her.
"It is? I hadn't noticed." She gave Skye a small pat on the head. As much as Skye loved the pat and wanted a friend, she didn't feel safe here.
"Okay...Well, maybe I should come back another time when your parents are home?" Skye let out a nervous laugh when she saw a shadow approach her. It had beady red eyes and sharp teeth, it was horrifying.
"Boo!" Skye shut her eyes tight, she felt her heart almost explode. It hurt and it hurt, it couldn't stop hurting. She didn't want this! She couldn't do this!
She didn't want to die!
Deep breath! "ONE!" She screamed as she fell to her knees.
Deep breath! "TWO!" She clenched her dress and just wanted the cloth off of her. She wanted to breathe!
Deep breath! "THREE!" She felt tears form in her eyes, streaming down her face.
"No! Gosh, please no! I can't brea-..I can't breathe, I can't! Please, please, please...I don't want to die. I don't want to die! Please, I'm begging you heart! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!" Skye pulled at her hair.
Skye,
"Mom.."
Take a DEEP BREATH!
"FOUR!" She screeched once more, she did hyperventilate a bit more before she felt her heart go back to normal. She laid on the ground and laughed.
"I almost died..but I did it. I did it! I handled it!" She fist pumped into the air, her tears of fear turned into tears of joy.
"My heart is stronger than I ever imagined..." She whispered to herself as the last tear in her eye rolled down her cheek.
"Holy shit." Skye looked up to see a green haired dirty man stand above her. "What the fuck was that?"
"Oh uhm, I have arrhythmia! Something simple can make my heart explode and I could die! But um, my breathing exercises help a lot. You really scared me there sir!" She stood up and held out a hand to shake his.
"My name is Skye! What's yours?" Skye smiled once more, the man looked over at the girl Skye was talking to before. The girl walked over to Skye with a frown, she looked traumatized.
"Uh, I'm Lydia. This is my friend BJ. He's probably not but I am sorry for scaring you. That was not...That wasn't a pretty sight to watch. I didn't think it would put you at the edge of death. We were just trying to give some people a good scare." Lydia chuckled as she took off her big hat. Skye pulled Lydia into a hug.
"It's okay! It really did suck...But I think I wanna scare people too! It sounds fun! What's it like? Can I help? Is it hard? Will I become creepy? Can I help!?" She let go of Lydia, looking between the two. Lydia looked at BJ, he was shaking his head with a glare on his face. Lydia slightly laughed at him before looking back at Skye.
"Sure."
"WHAT!?" Lydia's friend seemed pretty mad but Skye didn't care! She could help! She was gonna scare some people, woo!
"YAAAYY!" Skye raised her hands up and twirled. "Let's do this!" She giggled, Lydia gave her a warm smile.
"You're fun."
"I like you too!"
