Barbara's Thoughts

Adam took a seat on an empty stool covered in dust, rubbing his temples. He was just under so much stress and he couldn't believe it could get any worse than this.

"You're still in love with him?"

Oh god, Barbara was awake?

"How much did you hear?"

"Just enough to know that you're both in denial."

"What?" Adam tilted his head in confusion, looking over at his companion. "What are you talking about?"

"He was right Adam." Barbara really hated to admit it but it was true.

"Excuse me? How could you say something like that!? Did you even hear what he said?" Adam questioned, offensively crossing his arms. Barbara gave him a look as she sighed. She stood up and pulled up a worn down chair next to Adam, taking a seat.

"Of course not all of it was true. You were mostly right and you definitely weren't going to use him. He accused you of pretending to care for him even when you obviously do. But Adam, what he said about the baby...we are still kind of stuck on that. We haven't moved on, and we need to move on. We never actually lived life when we were together Adam, we spent all our time worrying. And then we died, we missed our opportunity Adam." Barb began getting choked up as she spoke. Adam couldn't help but have a few tears appear in his eyes.

"What are you saying? You didn't enjoy being with me?" Adam spoke in a whispery tone, awkwardly looking at the wall.

"You know what I'm saying Adam. Of course I loved you and of course you loved me too! Just not in the right way." Barbara held Adam's hand in her own palms. A tear rolled down her cheek as she leaned her head on Adam's shoulder.

"W-We were always so scared, y'know?" She giggled. "Always so worried! Of what people thought of us, if we weren't good enough, if our baby was going to hate us. So we made a 10 year plan to make sure everything was perfect. Adam, we wasted 10 years of our life and when we were finally ready we died. We had no idea what we were doing! I have no idea what I'm doing!" Barbara laughed as she began sobbing

"I just want to know what I'm doing for once in my life! Don't you, Adam? Being dead it's just...it's not that different from when we were alive. But it sure was a wake up call." She huffed, she sifted in her seat as she sat in silence. Adam had no idea what to say to his wife, could he even call her that anymore?

"It was. Gosh, were we that bad? We needed to die to realize how sad we were?" Adam sat up and turned to her, eyes widened. "I just feel bad, I get what you're saying. But it's like the cliche of the century! Husband has Wife. Husband falls in love with another man. Oh no, what is Wife going to do!?" He dramatically gasped before going back into his calm demeanor.

"I just...I didn't expect Wife to be so accepting of this."

"Well I didn't expect Husband to be into dudes but here we are."

"Barbara!" Adam laughed, she laughed along with him. They felt safe with each other, they felt really comfortable right now! The most comfortable they had ever been in ten years. Maybe they really did just need time to sit down and relax and just stop thinking and worrying about everything for once!

"Adam, when's the last time you've ever felt truly alive? Just asking. Like when last were you so excited and happy and ready for it all!?"

"Oh! Me and Laurence were at the altar about to tie the knot and I felt so special and loved. But then of course ten seconds later my glasses and suit are covered in his blood, shot right in front of my face. The bullet got lodged in his brain and he dropped dead at my feet. Traumatizing right?" Adam snorted as he leaned back in his chair. Barbara looked up at him in horror, covering her mouth.

"Adam! Why are you laughing that's horrible!"

"Trust me, I know..."

"I do." Adam beamed with joy as he stared lovingly into his fiance's eyes. Welp, now husband.

"And Laurence Shoggoth, do you-"

"IDO!" Laurence said excitedly, cutting off the priest. The man stared at Laurence as he raised an eyebrow, rolling his eyes.

"Calm down there, sir. Now that the I Do's are done, you may kiss the groom."

The two men looked at each other, incredibly nervous. They didn't know which one of them would go in and seal the deal of this thing called love. At once they decided just to go for it, their lips meeting in the middle. They had waited for this moment for so long and it was finally here, it was finally the day, their lives together would officially start! They were so happy!

"Adam, I love y-"

So happy that Adam didn't notice the gun being pointed at his new husband.

BANG!

"Laurence?" Adam mumbled as the boy infront of him dropped to the ground. "LAURENCE?" He wiped the blood off of his glasses so he could see the lifeless eyes of his lovely Laurence.

"No..No, no, no! Th-This was finally it! Everything was going to be okay! Everything was going to be PERFECT! Please!..please..I need you to come back!"

"Adam?" Barbara waved a hand infront of his face. He snapped out of it.

"Oh! Uh, sorry! Yeah, I uhm, yeah it was horrible. It hurt and it hurt for a long time, but I'm okay now. But-But he's so different and he's so...not him! I just wish he wasn't so afraid of having feelings, maybe he'd have more friends." Adam huffed, resting his hand on his head in frustration.

"You know what I think, Adam?"

"What do you think, Barbara?"

"I think that you can help him through this! You can help hin open up and be Laurence again! Better yet, he can be Beetlejuice and Laurence and you and him can live happily ever after like you dreamed! I can be your best woman at the wedding and Lydia can be the ring bearer and we'd have to figure out who would be the flower girl and-" Barbara rambled on before Adam stopped her so she couldn't go any farther than she already has.

"Barbara don't get my hopes up, you know that has a small chance of actually happening right? He said it himself, he's never going to be Laurence. And I didn't fall in love with Beetlejuice, you know that right? Beetlejuice is perverted and murderous and dangerous! It's weird. We've got Beetlejuice, not Laurence." Adam let out a whine, knowing that he'd probably never be happy again.

"You know what else I think though?" Barbara gave him a warm smile as she squeezed his hand tightly. He let out a chuckle, shaking his head.

"What esle do you think Barbara?"

"I think Laurence is Beetlejuice."
