CHAPTER TEN
The phone rings, waiting for him to answer your call.
You decided to ask him to meet up with you, so you can aks him about the system.. Or systems, you should say.
The two of you set a time and place, ending the call.
We're meeting by the train tracks.. 3 hours from now...
You check the time on your phone.
6:45 AM
You decided to take a shower, getting yourself ready for the meeting.
You check your injuries,
It's all healed, just a scar on my arm...
During one of your contracts, you had gotten yourself stabbed in the right arm. It hurt like hell for days, of course. Frank was very worried, seeing as he wasn't with you during that time.
You catch yourself thinking about Frank almost everyday.
What is happening to me... Can't get him out of my damn head.
Changing into your clothes, you eat your breakfast. Expecting the kids to show up at your place, and right on cue, knocks come on your door.
You opened the door.
"Hey kiddos, it's 7 in the morning, a bit early don't you guys think?"
"Sorry, Y/N.. We didn't have anything else to do today."
Jake said, sitting down on the couch.
"Do you have anything today, Y/N?"
Tricky asked you,
"Actually yes, I have a meeting with someone today... In a few hours."
Checking the time,
7:55 AM
The kids hang out with you, but sadly you have to go.
"Alright kids, I need to go. Business calls."
You leave the place, making your way to the train tracks.
Train tracks, where I saw Frank for the first time... Argh! Okay I need to stop thinking about him...!
Lately, you've been getting distracted. Having a hard time to focus. It's been a few days since you've started giving information to Dossier, no one knows about you breaking the rules... Yet.
You know that once you're caught, a bounty will soon be over your head.
As long as you're careful, you won't have a bounty.
Arriving at the train tracks, you meet your boss, accompanied with bodyguards.
"Hey, I'm here."
He turns around, smiling at you.
"Y/N, good to see you again. What is it you want to say?"
"It's about the system. I wanna know more about it... What is the system really...?"
He laughs quietly, sighing at the end.
"No one really knows the system. Even I don't know the system...
The one who truly knows the system, is the one who made it."
"So who made it?"
You asked in a hurry, your heart beating fast... Not knowing why.
"It could be anyone who made the system.. It could be anyone in here, anyone outside... They could be dead, they could be alive."
Your eyes focus on him, listening to every word he said.
"What about the rules..? Are they all made up?"
You asked.
"The rules aren't what they seem, the rules have rules."
"What do you mean? So you're saying even if we get caught, there's nothing?"
"The cops know about the system, and they don't care. They wont do anything to us, it's messed up I know, but they just think of us doing our jobs."
"Is it true... No one really gets out the system...?"
He pauses for a second.
"It's-- Even if you didn't come back, you're still apart of the system. The system awaits your return..."
"That's not right..."
"You said you needed a break, no matter how long that break is... You're still in the system."
You felt sick to your stomach, thinking how messed up the system truly is.
"How many are there..?"
Your voice cracking, as the man in front of you kept silent.
"How do I really get out!? I don't wanna live like this anymore!"
You plead him.
"Pay your debts... And I'll pull some strings. You know... I think of you as my child, Y/N. I might help you... But if you still wanna provide your services, you can simply.... Go off the grid."
"Im listening..."
"You can be a tracker, help bounty hunters to find their contracts."
"I refuse."
You stand up properly.
"I want to be completely out of the system."
Biting the inside of your cheek.
"I understand. I'll do anything I can to get you out..."
"I just need, to pay my debts and I'll be out..."
You leave the train tracks, stuffing your cold hands inside your pockets.
Winter is coming... This will make it hard to complete my contracts...
Snow falling down, covering the ground. You decide to go into an alleyway, under a roof, resting your legs. You've always hated the winter times, it always made your nose stuffy, your hands red and cold, and you feeling cold. You get your phone out, giving Dossier your new information.
The money will be at my doorstep... Alright then..
"Y/N..? What are you doing here?"
A familiar voice behind you, causing you to shout.
"Who--! Oh, hey bunny, nice-- nice seeing you here.. Jeez you scared me..."
"I was going out for a smoke... Do you mind..?"
"Go ahead, I don't mind."
Shoving your hands deeper into your pockets, trying to keep yourself warm.
Hearing Frank lighting a cigarette, you turn your head towards him.
"You're taking off your mask...?"
"How am I supposed to smoke..?"
He looks at you, confused.
"Well, I don't want to see your face yet..."
He lifts his mask up, just above his lip.
"What do you mean?"
You shrug, chuckling.
"I want to see your face when I have my life back in track..."
He blows smoke into your direction, in a teasing manner.
Rolling your eyes at him, flicking him off.
"I want to see your face when-- when I live in a house instead of my small apartment. When I finally know how to cook proper meals..."
He laughs softly, tapping his cigarette.
"And when I fully paid my debts..."
You continued.
He looks at you, smiling sweetly.
"Alright, I'll wait for you until you complete your goals."
Cold wind brushes past the two of you, making you shiver.
"Is that a promise?"
He puts your hair behind your ear, his hand resting on your cheek.
"I promise."
