Chapter 43

Ishaan sipped his favourite butter flavoured coffee before taking a view of the people outside there, through the balcony. He slept as much as he could after a tiring day which he fully spent for the conferences.

Outside, everyone was busy in their own world. Kids skating on the pathway. A bunch of girls giggling for God knows what.

'London girls, huh?' Aju's flirty voice played on his mind making him to shake his head in disbelief.

Aju and Farhan are the same in that particular topic.

Ishaan smiled at the thought of them. But where was the Farhan he had known for years? He had totally changed. He could sense the presence of a wall rising between them. Farhan had not been that way with him. He heavied a sigh, not able to figure out the reason for the distance separating them. He took out his phone to call Eby.

"Hey man!" Eby picked up at the second ring.

"Hey."

"How have you been? How was the conference?"

"Yeah, good. I hope they will lend their hands for our company."

"Ohh, great! Don't forget to inform the date of party, okay?"

Ishaan chuckled. "Where are you now?"

"At beach." He could already imagine a smile planting on Eby's face at those words.

"Beach? What's the business there?"

"Nothing man! Just walking with her."

"Oho! I hope your party club is not missing their old chairman."

"Oh hello! College is off today. Think that your mind is somewhere else. London girls, huh?"

"Oh, shut up Eby! Not you too."

"Hahaa.."

"And.. Did you see Farhan? He is not taking my calls."

"Come on yaar, when was the last time he picked up your call? He will be wandering anywhere."

"But, I have to talk to him. It's long time I think."

"Okay then.. I will send you his new number."

"New number? Well, whatever!"

"Yeah I'm coming." Ishaan heard him talking with Anjali. "Okay then. Here, she is crying for those cheeseballs."

Ishaan sniggered at the thought buying silly things for her. "Buy her icecreams then, I will call later."

"That's okay. But she wants cheeseballs not icecream." Ishaan hung up the call, running a hand through his forehead.

On the other end, Amaaya was watching TV with her siblings, having her favourite red coloured pringles.

"Is he going to kill her?" Emy asked out shockingly, with her eyes on the screen.

"Who?"

"Jake."

"Who is Jake?"

"Your husband. I thought it was you who have been watching this film with us."

"Ohh! Jake? Uh, maybe."

"Ainu, what happened to you? You are thinking too much now a days."

"Nothing.. I'm just having pringus."

"No. You are lying. Something is not right." Emy passed her detective look.

"Faru.. He is not taking my calls. I don't know where he is. But I feel like he is having some problem."

"Cool down Ainu. He is always like that. Two days present, other two days absent. You do know him, right?"

"Uhm." She moved to her room, putting the box in the dustbin.

Amaaya opened her textbook with disgust. Exams were on the way and she should atleast be aware of the chapter's name. According to the plan made by Rinu, the trio should finish the first module before the day.

But her eyes were still on her phone kept on the table, waiting for a call from her monkey.

Slowly, her eyes began to shut as much as she tried herself to focus on the book. She fell asleep, with her head lying on the table. And it made a way for the two hours lasting beauty sleep of hers.

Ring! Ring! Ring!!!

The ringtone of the phone interrupted her sleep, making her to jerk a bit. She rubbed her eyes and took a glimpse at the clock. It showed 7 pm. The next time she came to heard of it, she picked it up with an annoying look.

"Hello!" She almost shouted at it.

"Hello." That confused manly voice was enough to fly the butterflies which had been sleeping in her stomach.

Ishaan? Calling her?

"Uh.. Uhm.." She stuttered.

"Is n't this Farhan's number?" He asked out.

"Faru? Uh no. Wait, how can you even doubt any feminine voice as his?" She blurted out.

"Amaaya.." She could feel her heart melting dangerously at his voice.

"What the! I can't believe this. I'm gonna murder that idiot Eby." She held a confused face.

What happened to him?

For some unknown reasons, she really wanted to think that he was doing nothing but just making up an excuse to call her.

"So, you called, thinking this is Faru's number?" a smile playing on her lips.

"Yeah. Eby sent me your number instead of his. And, I really didn't know this was yours..."

"It's okay." She said, feeling a slight nerve of disappointment somewhere.

"So..."

"Do you know where Faru is?" Her thoughts shifted to something else.

"No! I don't. Not even Eby."

"Oh." She felt somewhat scared at his sudden disappearance.

"You don't need to worry. He will be okay."

Amaaya was thinking seriously about it that she could not even reply him.

"Amaaya?"

"Uhm."

He inhaled, thinking for a while, "And.. How, how are you?"

She furrowed her eyebrows at his unexpected question. "Huh?"

"I mean your exam.. No, exam preparations. Yeah, preparations."

"Good. Very good. Bom.."

"Bomb blasting?" Ishaan completed the sentence before she could.

"Yeah." His sarcastic tone made her to let out her gorgeous smile.

"How about Kevi?" He asked again giving a mini heart attack for her.

He still remember his name?

"He is all good. They are watching TV now."

"They?"

"Yeah. I have two sisters and a brother." She said out, wearing a proud smile.

"Ohh." Once she heard his tone changing, she bit her lips regretting her own words. She knew it would remind him of his own siblings whom he had never seen for even once.

"Uhh, had your dinner?" It was her turn to flush out the awkward silence.

"I thought you knew that it's not the same time here." Ishaan chortled.

"Oh yeah. I know that. Uh, maybe I forgot." She slapped her face for being the dumbest once again.

"Okay then, I'm gonna hung up." Amaaya blabbered on to cover up her embarrassement, not intending to go on with her stupid talks.

"Wait." Her heart skipped a beat when he said it.

"You will be there only, right?" She could sense the hope lacing his voice.

And something else too. Which she didn't even want to think of!

"Uhm." She smiled, her face totally flustered at the thought.

Ishaan smiled looking heavenwards recalling the unexpected talk with her the previous day.

"So, Mr. Ishaan, can we start now?" A white man, with whom he was going to run his new project, interrupted his pool of thoughts.

"Uh, yeah, sure!" Ishaan nodded before wearing a robot like face hearing him boosting about his own company. He acted like he was so into his boring talks.

Afterall, he grant his ears and look to him. Then why his head and heart too?

For heaven's sake, the man was called by his P.A for another meeting. "Okay then, we can deal it tomorrow. I gotta go now."

Ishaan nodded in acknowlegment before turning back, letting out a sigh of relief.

"Mr. Ishaan?" The white man paused at the doorway.

"Yeah?"

"Are you in love?"

"Huh?" Out of a sudden, his face turned pale.

"Just asking. I caught you looking and smiling at the ceiling a couple of times." Ishaan stood up without being able to reply. He slowly headed to the window side and let out a fresh breath.

Amaaya hid the new sneakers of Emy under the carpet before grabbing her bag from the table.

"Mom, I'm going." She slung her bag and walked fastly, arranging her messed up hair. She headed to the bus stop, hoping that she could meet Farhan.

Aju had called her the very morning to inform that Farhan would be singing in the program at the college. She smiled at the though of him singing again, infront of the whole college, after a long gap.

Suddenly, a grey swift dropped before her, making her almost to jump. She looked up to see him. The letter boy. Neil.

"Ainu? Hey! what's up?" He took off his sunglass, passing a cute smile.

"Hey. Nothing much! Going college." She smiled back.

"Ohh! Then I can drop you. Come on." Neil unlocked the door before her.

"No. Thanks! I will go by bus."

"You know what? Ishaan was right. You never miss a chance to go by bus."

"Okay then." Amaaya let out a small laugh before entering in.

"Did he really say so?" She asked, only to hear those words again.

"No. I'm lying." She shook her head at him.

"By the way, you have to wait for few minutes. I have to go somewhere." He said while driving.

"Yaar, you could have told me then. I will be late for college."

"This much interest for the classes? That does n't sounds like you!"

"Not really. Today we are having our college day there. And Faru's song will be there." She said excitedly.

"That's great! Anyways, I have to go St. Mary's orphanage."

"Orphanage? Why?"

"Just to transfer a cheque. Yesterday, Ishaan called to ask me to visit there. He had a strange hobby of spending a huge amount there each months."

"Oh." Amaaya was taken aback by his words.

What she thought about Ishaan was completely wrong. The actual 'he' was so different from what he chose to be in public.

At first, she thought he was the another face of Dracula. Then she thought he was not so rude but a bit confusing. Then she thought, at some point, he had a soft heart too..

In her language, he had been the;

The phone breaker..

The bone freaker..

And now what?

The heart stealer too?

Amaaya, the lover of words reached at a great loss of words to describe him!

"Neil, I'm coming too." She felt a sudden urge to visit the place he had spent his childhood.
