/ Trouble in paradise \
Word Count: 1666
You were feeling more relieved after having told Felix what bothered you the most, but it was still uncomfortable for you to hide it from your boyfriend.
You ended up giving up insisting that Felix let you help with this plan to unmask Gabriel Agreste, you had a bad feeling about it.
But he seemed to be having success as he was overjoyed to have 'taken back' his family ring.
You decided that the less you knew the better, because you got yourself into so much that you shouldn't have by accident, now you can't even sleep well at night.
You tried to pretend everything was fine and take things naturally like Luppus advised.
But it was wearing you down inside.
In your room:
Calling/on:
'Sorry baby, I can't go out today, my dad is in a bad mood... More than usual.'
'It never stops you other times... What's going on? We haven't seen each other for about 3 weeks.'
'It's a... a really hard week. I need to stay here, I'm sorry honey, I promise to make it up to you later.'
His voice sounded a little melancholy. Something was wrong and he didn't seem to want to talk about it.
Calling/off:
You said goodbye and ended the call.
Since Adrien is no longer at your school and now you need to be more cautious, it's quite difficult to see him. It even felt like a long distance relationship.
And that made things cool down a bit between you two, you felt like he didn't tell you some things and you yourself couldn't tell that his father was Hawk Moth.
From the beginning of your relationship it was complicated, you knew that everyone was but yours was a completely different level, you were exhausted inside and you didn't even realize it.
You lay down on the bed tired, not physically but mentally.
You looked at your balcony and soon several memories of you and him talking before you dated came to your mind and it made you smile sadly, and a small tear ran down your cheek.
How simple was that moment...
Your cell phone rang waking you up from your thoughts, you answered without seeing who it was.
Calling/on:
'yeah...?'
'What dead voice is that? Are you okay?'
It's Felix.
'Not even a little. And you?'
'Problems in paradise? Do not say anything. Just meet me at the address I'll send you.'
'I'm not in the m-'
Calling/off:
He hung up on you. Felix knew every possible way to get on your nerves.
You sighed in defeat and changed to go to the address he sent you. It was Saturday after all, and you didn't want to be left home alone with your troubled mind. Your kwami Luppus only knew how to sleep and eat and your parents were workaholics.
✷✷✷
When you arrived, Felix was already at the entrance waiting for you. You looked at the establishment and arched an eyebrow.
"An arcade? Not really like you." You smile wistfully, you used to go when you were a kid.
"I'll leave you with that head start, it'll be even more fun when I win." You two entered and spent the afternoon competing, you beat him at first but after he learned you started to lose. Your mind was so entertained, you forgot to all your worries.
...
"What's it like to lose for the twentieth time in a row?" Felix sneered as you clenched your fists and looked at the screen in disbelief.
"How you do it?! You must be cheating! I don't want to play anymore!" You crossed your arms.
"Cheating? You're a terrible loser you know? Anyway, winning made me thirsty, I'm going to get us something to drink." Felix stifled a smug smile as he went to get a drink.
You suppressed an urge to strangle him as he went but you soon calmed down with a thoughtful little smile.
Felix doesn't change...
Incredible as it seems, you like him that way, that was his charm.
After mulling over what you just thought, you shook your head trying to clear your mind. So automatically you thought you could be having fun with your boyfriend but... Anyway, you didn't even know why he didn't want to run away from his father like he always did.
"I left you alone for 5 minutes and you're already depressed again?" Felix offers you a bottle of cold juice, you thank him and drink in silence, leaning back against the wall. Felix sighed and stayed by your side.
"Do you want to talk about the problems in paradise?" He asked before sipping from his bottle.
"I guess same as usual." You shrugged.
"If it's the same as usual then I bet he wanted to be with you. I already know what will cheer you up." Felix grabbed his cell phone and called Adrien on speakerphone. You just watched curiously.
I know we are friends
But why does he always subtly try to make me happy?
He wasn't like that in the middle school.
Calling/on:
"Hi, Felix."
"Hello favorite cousin, I'm having a little party at my house and you're invited." Felix winked at you, you clapped excitedly.
'Un, thanks for the invitation but I'm not in the mood today."
'Are you not into it or did your father make you a prisoner for good?'
'*sigh* I really don't want to, Felix.' your smile faded and you lowered your head in disappointment.
So from the beginning he didn't want to leave and used his dad as an excuse not to tell me the truth.
'Are you okay? You're acting weird these days. (Y/n) is worried about you, you don't tell us anything.' Felix arched an eyebrow in surprise at his cousin's response.
'I just don't want to worry her about my dad issues. You were right about me, I just do what he tells me to do, he doesn't approve my relationship with (Y /n), and I don't know how to fix it, I don't want to hurt either both of them.'
Felix took the speaker off and motioned for you to wait while he walked away to talk to Adrien privately. Looks like the conversation wasn't taking the turn Felix was hoping for.
You crawled your back slowly along the wall until you were sitting on the floor hugging your knees.
That explains why he is so distant and won't tell me anything. I also can't tell him everything anyway so I understand.
But I do not like this.
You were so tired of it, all you wanted was for things to be simpler, you closed your eyes slowly hoping that this would bring you peace and imagined yourself in a normal relationship where people go to their in-laws' houses for lunch or fight over jealousy or futile things but then make peace with a night of sex.
But you also thought about simply being single and focusing on yourself and your mental health, love takes as much as it gives. Time away from him wouldn't be bad.
........
"You know I don't like seeing you like this, it's not fun to upset you." You hear Felix's voice speak from the side so you lift your head and look at him.
"Is that why you care so much that Adrien and I are happy? You know what? He and I were always troublesome. I don't want to continue being an emotional burden for you by making you worry about it." You said it seriously, you didn't want Felix to wear himself out too.
"Stop talking nonsense, you'd never be a burden to me. You're my annoying friend that I adore, you deserve to be happy and it makes me happy to know that I did at least one good thing for someone I care about once in my life . Well... Someone else than my mom." You couldn't help but laugh and pulled Felix into a tight hug, taking him by surprise.
"I adore you too and you're the annoying one! Thank you for being here with me, you already make me very happy you silly. Your company is enough to make me happy." Felix froze at first but then he hugged you back, making the most of that innocent hug that deep down was driving him crazy.
This way it's hard to get over you...
After the hug you suddenly looked at him seriously and said "Promise me you won't unmask Adrien's father?"
"What crazy idea is this? Because of him, Adrien isn't free, and you can't be together like a normal couple." Felix turned his head to the side in confusion.
You were absorbed in his words for a few seconds. On the call Adrien looked so confused as if he had to choose between the only family he had and his girlfriend, it seemed unfair to force him to make a decision like that.
As your friend kwami said, you shouldn't have seen that alternate future, things needed to take their course naturally. Adrien should know what to follow on his own.
"It's not fair that you expose his father so that Adrien has to decide who he is. I want him to choose to stand up to his father of his own free will and also to choose to be with me of his own free will. And not because of a trauma trigger." You tried to explain.
"I hadn't thought about it that way. I think you're right. Alright I won't get involved with this anymore." Felix mused looking ahead.
"Thank you... You're the best." You laid your head on his shoulder and smiled in relief as if you could take whatever path fate threw your way, be it good or bad. Felix stood as still as ice hoping you wouldn't hear the strong beating of his heart.
"I know that but thanks anyway." He replied making you wonder how you could like a cocky fop.
