Chapter 20 - investigations continue

When Sung returns home the next morning, he is greeted by Saint and Shin who had accompanied Chingching to school. As he enters with his suitcase, Ken and the other bodyguards, he takes out an award from behind his back.

"Guess who won the award for Best Leading Actor?" he asks.

"Congratulations!" Saint says, giving him a hug.

"Congratulations." Shin says formally.

"Didn't you see it on the internet?" Sung asks.

"Actually, no." Saint scratches the back of his head a little embarrassed.

"Well, winning is the greatest satisfaction." Sung replies, looking at the award.

"That's for sure. Was the trip okay?" Saint asks.

"Fortunately, yes, your injuries are better?" Sung asks Saint and Shin.

"We're better and for your joy we could go back to work." Saint replies.

"Good, I'm glad that from now on you will be here too Shin. Maybe Saint will start to get his brain working a little." Sung chuckles.

Saint glares at him, Shin instead replies: "He will be an idiot until the end of his days, it's one of Saint's characteristics that can't be changed."

"Thank you very much, always very kind." Saint sulks.

"Good, having said that I would say we get back to work to get to the truth, I'm sure we're close." Sung replies.

At that point they turn on the TV to leave a bit of background music and Sung, Saint, Shin and Ken start looking for any kind of information on the Facebook profile of Nida, Sung's sister.

"Why didn't you think of doing this research before?" Shin asks.

"Actually I had ruled out that my sister could be involved in some way, I thought she was there by chance and was simply a victim of the explosion but after Jeng's words I'm sure there's something we never noticed." Sung replies.

Saint once turned on his pc is about to go to google, when Shin blocks him after seeing the pc background. The background is a photo of the two of them after a soccer game Shin played several years ago.

"Why do you have this background?" Shin asks him.

"Don't you like our photo?" Saint asks in turn without answering the question.

Shin then lets it go because he knows that Saint will not answer the question directly and will only continue to make him nervous.

"Do you know if your sister had a second profile or a fake profile?" Ken asks.

"Not that I know of." Sung replies.

Saint meanwhile goes to search among the secret agent's followers and while looking through the various friends he doesn't find Nida's name but finds a profile with a photo that seems to be fake and a very strange name different from the others n1na.333. He opens it and doesn't find any photos of her, only photos of landscapes that also seem to be fake. However, he reads a post that says "Sometimes, it is precisely in the simplest layers that the most complex answers are found."

"I found this." Saint shows the computer screen to the others.

"Why do you think it's linked to my sister?" Sung asks.

"The name is similar, it could be a fake profile that she used to send you some signals." Saint replies.

"I don't understand what this sentence could mean." Sung replies confused.

"Let's take it into consideration." Shin adds.

"The secret agent and this account follow each other on Facebook, I'm sure Nida met with him, but how can we frame Jeng and his gang without evidence?" Saint pulls his hair out.

"Maybe we just need to figure out the meaning of that sentence on Facebook, what could it possibly mean?" Shin asks.

"You're right, maybe it could all be contained in that post, but what could it be?" Sung also thinks he's going crazy.

While they continue to think about that shady sentence, a report appears on TV that captures their attention and in particular that of Saint.

"Today we are at a pivotal moment in medical science. A team of Thai experts is developing an experimental drug that promises to revolutionize the treatment of chronic diseases and help patients with certain conditions. We have Dr. Rit, a renowned forensic scientist and researcher, here to tell us about this extraordinary discovery."

Saint feels a sense of anxiety as he hears the words.

Dr. Rit sits in a white chair, perfectly at ease. He wears a lab coat over a dark suit, with a sober tie. His glasses glint in the lights, and his posture exudes authority and confidence.

"Dr. Rit, thank you for joining us today. This new drug has already been called 'a game-changer.' Can you tell us more about how it works?" the reporter asks.

"Thank you for having me. The drug, tentatively called 'Ryemed-01,' works on a molecular level that has never been explored before. It is designed to regenerate damaged tissue and slow the process of degeneration, making it a potential treatment for conditions such as chronic diabetes and some autoimmune diseases." the man replies.

Saint looks closely at his face, finding it disturbing and suspicious just as he saw him in the hospital.

"What have been the most promising results so far?" the woman asks.

"During the early stages of the trial, we saw a 60% improvement in subjects who responded positively. This level of effectiveness is unprecedented for similar treatments. Of course, we are still in the preliminary phase and will continue our studies to ensure long-term safety and efficacy." he replies.

Saint begins to see flashes in his mind, he begins to remember something of what happened that day in the hospital when he lost consciousness. Until then he had not remembered anything because that injection had really stunned him.

At that point, the journalist reads a question sent by a viewer: "Many experimental drugs fail during the advanced stages of testing. How do you respond to those who fear that it is too early to celebrate this discovery?"

"A more than legitimate question. Scientific research is always a complex process, but the dedication of our team and the preliminary results give us reason to be optimistic. We will continue to work with transparency, following the highest ethical standards."

At that point, after that answer, Saint stands up out of breath and says: "human organs."

"What?" Sung asks.

"What I saw in the hospital before I passed out was a room of human organs." Saint replies as he sits back down with his eyes increasingly shocked.

"I think human organs are sometimes reused for other patients or not?" Ken asks.

"No, the ones I saw had a higher price." Saint still remembers.

Suddenly he feels a urge to vomit rising in his throat so he immediately gets up and goes to the bathroom. He ends up vomiting because of the filth and squalor of that doctor who had made him pass out. How could a doctor do something like that? Sell human organs? This is absurd, plus some of those could also have been from people who did not die voluntarily. This means that Jeng and the other politicians are also involved in human organ trafficking, and maybe Sung's sister and the secret agent he supposedly met, had discovered this very thing.

Immediately afterward he hears someone knocking on the door.

"Saint?" It was Shin.

At that point Saint gets up from the ground and goes to open the door for him.

"Shin." he says only in a weak voice.

"Are you okay?" he asks. And maybe that was the first time he had asked him in a long time.

"I'm fine, I'm just shocked." Saint replies.

"You'll see, we'll be able to find out the whole truth." Shin reassures him.

And at that point they both go back to the others. Shin keeps a hand on Saint's back as if to comfort him, that gesture is almost instinctive. Saint smiles when he feels Shin's touch.

Now that they knew that bitter and disturbing truth, what would happen?
