Chapter 18 - Saint's diary
The next day, Shin takes his sister to school, which is also well guarded by Sung's guards in case anyone wants to try to kidnap her again, immediately after he goes to his house to get some clothes and everything he needs to stay at Sung's for a long time.
Until the waters calm down, he would stay there, for his and Chingching's sake. In addition to going to his house, Saint had given him the keys to get something from him too. His wounds were better but Sung's private doctor had advised him to stay warm, so he had asked Shin to do him this favor.
That night he couldn't sleep well because he was too busy with the worries and thousand thoughts that the day had brought him. By now they had all become a target of Jeng and they would have to be more careful than usual, even for the smallest thing.
When he arrives at Saint's house, he intends to head straight to his room to get him some clothes to take to Sung. When he enters he looks around a bit. He had never seen the inside of Saint and his father's new house, but it made him feel very nostalgic.
He looks at the small kitchen and the small living room and thinks about the fact that Saint probably always lived alone these years. At least he had his sister, but Saint had no one and that makes him a little sad.
When he goes to his room and opens it he finds a bed and a table with some furniture.
On the nightstand next to his bed he sees something that catches his attention: a photo of the two of them after a soccer game of Shin. He remembered the photo very well, and in his head he wonders why Saint kept it up there. Hadn't he said he hated him?
Immediately after he opens his closet and takes out everything he needs. Saint hadn't changed a bit and literally always wore the same kind of clothes, Shin wasn't very surprised by that.
However, when he goes to take some sweatshirts, he feels something under one of them, and no, it wasn't the wood of the closet, but it seemed to be a diary.
Shin wasn't sure he wanted to open it to see what was written inside but finally he does, opens to a random page and reads.

Dear Diary,
Today I received one of the best gifts ever for my birthday: a cooking set to learn how to cook. Shin gave it to me, he knows me so well. You can tell he's my best friend. I can't wait for his birthday to come too, to see his reaction to the gift I have in mind. I want to be his best friend forever.
Shin flips another page.

Dear diary,
Today Shin played one of his usual soccer games and he was even better. I don't know how to play and even if I ask him he doesn't want to teach me, but it doesn't matter, I'm still happy to be able to cheer for him. Every day he gets better and better and I'm proud of him and that I can call him my best friend.
Shin lets out a little smile.

Dear diary,
Today Shin and I decided to both skip school to go for a walk in downtown Bangkok. I don't know if our parents will find out, but I hope not!! I just want to have fun and spend a different day with Shin. I already know that being with him will be a lot of fun, after all he's my best friend and I couldn't ask for a better one.
The more Shin flips through those pages the more he really wants to cry. If he thinks back to how Saint treated him, he can't really believe that he's the same person as in the diary.

Dear Diary,
Today, Shin and I went to the lake. It was really fun, I really spent a beautiful day with him and even though we didn't manage to catch a single fish, just being in his company was enough to make me happy. He's really a special person to me.
Shin then decides to go straight to the last page of the diary to see what the last thing he had written was.

Dear Diary,
I like Shin, and I'm not talking about friendship. I realized that I have real feelings for him.
I don't know what to do, I just wish it was a bad nightmare, but I know it's not.
My feelings are real and I don't know how to handle them, I can't accept it. I want to disappear.
When Shin reads that last page he immediately freezes. Without realizing it, his eyes are shiny and his vision is blurry.
He didn't understand. He was confused and dazed by those words, he couldn't understand. Did Saint have romantic feelings for him? Why? How was it possible? What did he see in someone like him? And then, why had Shin never noticed this? Also, why had Saint told him he hated him? Was it a momentary crush?
Shin's head seems to explode because of all those questions, however he calms down and puts the diary down where he found it. He tries to think a bit about Saint's behavior and he really doesn't understand, but he thinks he can understand him better now that they are colleagues and will be forced to live together for a while. Maybe Shin didn't understand because he didn't know what it felt like to have a crush on someone, he had no idea how people who liked someone behaved. He didn't know anything about these feelings, how could he think he could understand Saint? He stops thinking about it for a moment and decides to observe him better these days and decipher his behaviors.
When he returns to Sung's house he finds him, Saint and Ken in the living room talking animatedly about something, probably about what happened yesterday.
"Shin." Saint calls him.
"You left early this morning." Sung interrupts.
"Yeah, I went to drop my sister off at school and then I stopped by my and her house to get something to stay here." Shin replies.
"Thanks." Saint replies with a half smile.
Shin doesn't say anything and sits on the couch next to him.
"What were you talking about?" Shin asks.
"We were asking Saint if he remembered how he ended up in the warehouse." Ken comments.
"Do you remember how you ended up there?" Shin asks him.
"I only remember never leaving the hospital, I ended up in a room and someone from behind injected me with something that made me really dizzy." Saint replies.
"It must have been Dr. Rit." Shin replies.
"Yeah, we were thinking about it too. Saint didn't see his face but there's a high probability it's him." Sung replies.
"I went into the autopsy room and then I saw another room but I can't remember anything else." Saint replies.
"Don't try too hard, you'll tell us when you have a more vivid memory." Ken reassures him.
Saint nods.
"One more thing." Saint tells Sung.
"He told me that your sister got in his way and that he should take you out too." Saint tells him.
"Yeah, he told me too not to get involved or he'd make me suffer the same fate, yet I can't understand how he and my sister could be connected. She never told me anything about Jeng, yet from the way she talks about him she must have discovered something important." Sung replies.
"What if he met the secret agent? Remember his mother's email? He also discovered something big." Saint thinks.
"It could be, but my sister never mentioned this secret agent to me, I mean, I was one too, so why keep it from me?" Sung asks.
"Maybe he didn't want to put you in danger and that's why he didn't tell you, you have to try to find out if your sister and this secret agent were really in contact." Saint finishes.
Sung nods and tells him that he will try to look. Shin had been watching the scene without understanding the situation, so Saint summarizes it briefly and Shin understands.
Afterwards, the actor-former secret agent, tells him that he should leave the house because he had to do an advertising campaign. He also tells the three people present that he would have lunch with a colleague of his, so they shouldn't wait for him. After all the chaos that happened the night before, the security at his villa and also when he went out increased, he couldn't afford to be caught again, he had to get to the truth.
After Sung leaves, only Ken, Saint and Shin remain in the villa. Each one is on his own to do some chores. Ken had to take care of some documents and letters that had arrived to Sung that week. Shin instead was using his computer to try to look for new information on Jeng, in case he had missed it. He and Ken, even if they hadn't spoken much, were in the kitchen and each one was on his own, without saying anything to the other.
"I hope we can become good colleagues." Ken breaks the ice.
"I hope so too." Shin smiles.
"I also hope you'll get along with Saint." he adds tentatively.
"That's up to him." Shin shrugs.
After a few minutes Saint enters the kitchen.
"I don't like sitting around doing nothing." he snorts.
"The doctor said you need to rest, in addition to your face you were also hit on your left arm and you still have bruises on your right leg, where do you think you're going in this condition?" Ken replies.
"Can I help you in any way?" he asks him and Shin.
"No." they both reply in unison.
"Okay, then I'll think about making lunch. Shin, do you want anything in particular?" he asks, walking over to the fridge.
"Sorry, don't you ask me if I want something in particular?" Ken asks.
"We eat together almost every day, I don't need to ask you. So, Shin?" Saint asks.
"Anything is fine." he replies.
Saint nods and then starts cooking something. He starts thinking about how that cohabitation with Shin would have gone. Just thinking about it makes him shiver because he's afraid of making a mistake with whatever he does towards him, but at the same time he's happy to finally be able to spend time with him and see him every day...
