Chapter 48
Carter's POV
"Carter. Carter! Get up babe," I heard someone, who I think was Janet, call my name. I groaned and then pulled the cover over my head, in an attempt to block out the voice.
"Carter, you have to get up. You're getting married today," she pulled the cover from over my head. I opened one of my eyes and looked up at her.
"What time is it?" I yawned.
"10:21am. The hairstylist and Karen are going to be here soon," she says.
I groaned again and pulled myself up so that I was sitting up against the headboard. Janet, Avery, and Olivia were all standing around the bed looking at me.
"How do you feel?" Avery asked.
"Nauseous," I replied quickly. I glanced over at Janet, who smirked knowingly at me.
"That's probably just your nerves," Liv said. "Want some water?"
I nodded in response, and she walked off to a separate part of the hotel. I got out of the bed and walked into the bathroom. I took off my pajamas and got into the shower. After showering and shaving every inch of my body, I got out and used the towel to dry myself off. I then grabbed a robe that had the word "Bride" monogrammed on it. I looked at my belly in the mirror. My baby bump was noticeable to me but I'm sure that's just because I know that I'm pregnant. Anyone else would just think I was bloated or something.
I tied the robe closed and then opened the bathroom door, walking into the living room area. The hairstylist, Jenna, had gotten there and she was setting everything up so that she could do me and the girls' hair.
"Carter!" I looked over towards the door of the hotel room, that I didn't even notice was opened, and I saw my mama and daddy.
"Mama, daddy!" I ran over to them and hugged my mama first, followed by my dad.
"My gorgeous girl," my mama said as she rubbed my cheek with her hand. I automatically leaned my face into her hand, being used to her doing that every since I was a little girl.
"I can't believe that you're getting married today," my daddy shook his head in disbelief.
"Well, you better get used to the idea pretty quick because you have to walk me down the aisle in," I paused to look at the clock on the wall, that read 10:54am. "Three hours."
"I'm looking forward to it princess," he leaned forward and kissed my forehead. "I'm going to head to Michael's suite to get ready with the rest of the men," he announced. He kissed my mama's cheek before starting to walk off.
"Wait, daddy!" I yelled, making him pause and turn around to look at me again. "Can you tell Michael that I can't wait to see him? And that I love him?"
He smiled wide and nodded his head. "Will do princess."
I smiled and closed the door to my room. I turned around and walked back over to Jenna, sitting down in the chair that she had set up.
"Ready to get married?" She asked, pulling my hair out of it's ponytail.
"I'm beyond ready," I smiled to myself.
Michael's POV
"Michael, would you stop?" Eddie asked me.
I just shook my head and kept going.
"Mike, you're going to wear a grove in the floor from all that damn pacing," Marlon spoke up.
"What if she changes her mind?" I wondered out loud, making all of them groan at me.
"You two are getting married in," Jackie stopped to check his watch that was on his wrist. "three hours. If she wanted to change her mind, she would've done it by now."
"She's going to change her mind, I just know it. What am I going to do? I love her too much. I wouldn't be able to make it without her," I reached up and tugged on my curls. All of a sudden, Eddie walked over to me, grabbed me by the shoulders to make me stop pacing and then slapped my cheek.
"The fuck was that for?" I yelled, bringing my hand up to rub my cheek. Damn, he hits hard.
"You're rambling Michael. You know Carter loves you just as much as you love her so why are you trying to convince yourself otherwise?" He wondered. I sighed heavily and threw my body down onto the couch.
"I don't know," I shrugged. "I guess I just can't believe that she's stayed this long, you know?" Marlon and Jackie nodded in understanding. "I thought she would've run away from me by now, given all that we've been through, but she hasn't. And I guess I don't really understand why."
"It's because she loves you," Marlon said. "Dealing with the lifestyle that we have is not easy at all. It's not even easy for us and we've been in it since we were little kids."
"But Carter has done an amazing job and its because she loves you." Jackie adds.
"Moral of the story here, Carter isn't going to leave you. You need to suck this sad shit up and go marry your woman," he yelled, making me laugh.
"Alright, alright," I let out a deep breath that I hadn't even realized I was holding. "I'm getting married!" I screamed, making them all cheer with me.
In the middle of our cheering and celebrating, there was a knock on the door. "I got it," Jackie yelled. He walked over to the door and opened it, and Carter's dad Andre was standing there.
"Hey Michael," he smiled at me. I motioned for him to come into the room and I gave him a hug when he got over to me. Despite the compromising position that he had caught me in with his daughter over a year ago when we first met, him and I have become pretty good friends. After everything that happened after Carter lost our baby girl last year, me and Andre started to bond over helping Carter become herself again and a true friendship blossomed from that.
"How are you feeling?" He asked, looking over my face. I sighed and was about to reply before Eddie beat me to it.
"Don't you see the grove in the floor?" He smirked. I stuck my middle finger up at him and turned back to Andre, who was laughing.
"Nervous pacing?" He guessed, making me nod in confirmation. He brought his hand up and rubbed my shoulder. "Don't worry, it's completely normal to be nervous. This is a big life change," he said.
"He's not nervous to get married. He's nervous that Carter is going to leave him," Marlon added unnecessarily and I turned to glare at him.
"Thank you for that extra piece of information Marlon," I thanked him sarcastically.
"You're welcome," he smirked.
"Carter wouldn't leave you. Do you remember that day that we met for the first time?" Andre asked.
"I try my best not to," I muttered, making him chuckle and shake his head.
"Well, when we went into the kitchen to talk, I told her that I didn't think that she should be there with you. She basically told me that no matter what I said, she was going to be there with you."
This was all new information to me. Carter had never told me what happened between her and her parents that day.
"And I asked her, 'Is he the one you want? Are you sure?' and she said, 'Yes Daddy, I'm sure'," he smiled at the memory. He all of a sudden snapped his fingers as if he remembered something else. "Oh, and when I was just dropping her mother off at Carter's room, Carter told me to tell you that she can't wait to see you and that she loves you."
I started to smile so wide, I could feel my cheeks stretching.
"We told you that you had nothing to worry about," Eddie said.
"I love her too," I whispered. "So much."
Carter's POV
"Would you stop fidgeting?" Olivia groaned in annoyance.
"I can't," I whined. "I'm too excited."
"If you don't let me zip this dress up, you'll be getting married in your lingerie."
"Michael would love that," I turned around and stuck my tongue out at her. My mama cleared her throat and frowned at me.
"Uh, I am still your mother missy, and don't think that I won't beat your ass on your wedding day," she said playfully.
"And that is my brother. I don't want to hear about his sex life," Janet added, shuddering at the thought.
"Mommy, I was pregnant before. Don't you know how that happens?" I asked her. She stuck her middle finger up at me and continued to fix the flowers in my hair.
"There. Finished," Liv announced as I felt her zip my dress up all the way. She stepped back and straightened out the back of my dress.
"You look beautiful baby," my mama told me, holding my shoulders and looking into the mirror with me.
"Thank you mama," I leaned over and laid my head against hers.
"Here, we have to add the veil," Avery came over to us with my veil in her hands. My mama took it from her and carefully pushed the comb into my hair. Janet came up to us and made sure that the veil was fanned out behind me.
"Knock knock," I heard as the door opened and I looked over to see our wedding planner, Lawrence. He walked over to us and smiled widely at me.
"You look amazing," he told me.
"Thanks Lawrence. Are we about ready?"
"Yeah, that's what I came to tell you. The car's are all ready outside. Michael and his brothers have already left and your father is waiting just outside the door," he announced.
"Alright," I nodded.
"Janet, Avery, Olivia, and Mrs. Green, there's a car downstairs waiting for all of you," Lawrence added.
They nodded and preceded to grab their bouquets.
"Knock 'em dead girl," Avery said, before kissing me on the cheek.
"Absolutely," I replied. Avery walked away and then stood by the door and Liv came up to me.
"I love you Carter," Liv told me and I grabbed her hand and held it in mine.
"I love you more," I kissed her cheek and smiled at her. She dropped my hand and walked over to stand by Avery.
"Hey, you know the next time I talk to you, you'll be my sister," Janet smiled at me.
"I thought I already was," I teased her.
"Well, you know, officially," she laughed. I smiled and shook my head at her. She hugged me tightly and then let go. "Love you Car."
"Love you too Dunk," I replied, calling her by her nickname. She groaned and rolled her eyes playfully.
"Black people always have to mess up a sentimental moment," she chuckled and walked over to the door. My mama came up to me with my bouquet in her hand. She handed it to me and then kissed my forehead.
"I love you, my gorgeous girl," she said, getting teary eyed.
"I love you too mama but don't cry yet. At least wait until the ceremony," I giggled, making her swat her hand at me.
"I'm so happy that you are going to get to experience everything that I have with your father, with Michael," she confessed.
"Me too ma. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him. He's my life," I smiled at the mere thought of my Michael. My mama smiled and rubbed my arm.
"Well, I'm gonna go. Good luck," she kissed my cheek before turning and leaving with the girls. Lawrence turned and looked at me.
"Ready?" He asked and I nodded. He held his arm out and I grabbed it, to make sure I was steady in my heels. He guided to the door of the hotel room and walked out first, making me follow behind him. My dad's eyes instantly landed on me and his smile so widely, I know his jaws would be hurting later.
"Baby girl," he sighed quietly, walking over to me. He grabbed both of my hands and held them out at arm's length. "You're stunning. Absolutely amazing," he kissed my forehead. Thank god Karen used extra hold setting spray when she did my makeup because if she didn't I'm positive that the makeup on my forehead and cheek would be gone by now.
"Thanks daddy. You look pretty good yourself." He had on an all black suit, with a black dress shirt and gold tie. He smirked and dusted off his shoulders.
"You know, I try, I try," he said, making me giggle. He held his arm out to me and I hook my arm around his elbow. "Are you ready?"
"Absolutely," I replied. My dad patted my hand that rested on his arm and he started to lead me towards the elevators so that we could head to the ceremony.
I know you guys are probably really anxious for the wedding chapter but I wanted to put the ceremony and the reception in the same chapter so I had to cut this one short. The next chapter will be the last. However, I haven't decided on if I'll do an epilogue or something like that so if you'd like to see that, please comment below. I hope you have all enjoyed this chapter and don't forget to comment and vote! Thanks guys!
