Chapter 28

Carter's POV

A couple days later, I was at Neverland, waiting for Elizabeth to come get me. She was getting married, again, in a couple months and she wanted to come dress shopping with her.

I was sitting on the couch, reading a book called Little Women. I was busy reading when I heard Michael's voice from somewhere in the house.

"Carter?!" He yelled.

I rolled my eyes and tried to keep reading, hoping that he would just leave me alone.

"Carter?!"

I sighed and set my book down. "What?!" I yelled back.

"Come here for a second! I'm upstairs!"

I let out an annoyed breath and got up. Rubbing my stomach, I made my way up the stairs. I saw Michael standing by our bedroom door and I walked over to him.

"What do you want?"

"Touchy, touchy." He held his hands up in mock surrender.

"Sorry, but how would you feel if you were 2 years pregnant and your boyfriend made you walk up a flight of steps?"

"You are not "2 years" pregnant, Carter," he laughed. "You're only 4, almost 5 months."

"Yeah, whatever. Why'd you call me up here?"

"I have something to show you but you have to close your eyes."

"Michael, I don't feel like doing this right now." I whined.

"Baby, I promise you're gonna love it," he grabbed my hands and held them in his. "Please?"

He kissed me softly and I sighed. "Alright, alright."

"Good, now close your eyes."

I closed my eyes and I felt him pull my arm so we could start walking. After a couple of steps, we stopped.

"No peeking," he warned.

"I'm not, I'm not."

I heard a door open and he pulled me into the room. The door shut behind us and I heard some shuffling around.

"Michael?"

"Ok baby. Open your eyes."

I opened my eyes and gasped. Michael had decorated a nursery for our little girl. The room was covered in the colors light purple and yellow. The walls were the light purple, with little yellow butterflies all over. The crib was white but had yellow bedding.

There was a white changing table, with purple bedding and a white rocking chair, with a matching foot stool. I looked up and the ceiling had little white clouds painted here and there on it.

"What do you think?" I heard him say.

I looked over at him and he was biting his lip, waiting for my reaction.
"Its beautiful, Applehead." I said, tearing up. Michael smiled and walked over to me. He pulled me into a hug and held me in his arms.

"When did you even do all this? I had no idea," I said.

"All those times I said I was going to the studio or going to a meeting, I was really in here."

"So you were lying to me?" I frowned.

"It was all for a good reason," he laughed.

I giggled and kissed his nose. "You did a good job daddy."

"Why, thank you mommy. You think she'll like it?" He rubbed my stomach.

"I think she'll love it." Just then, I felt a dull pain on my side. I inhaled sharply and scrunched my face up.

"You ok baby?"

The pain subsided and I exhaled. "Yeah. It was probably just indigestion."

Michael arched his eyebrow and frowned. "Maybe you should go lay down for a while."

"Ugh, all I do is lay down these days," I complained. "Besides, Liz is coming to get me any minute now."

"Baby, you sure?"

I held his face in between my hands. "Positive," I whispered. I kissed his lips three times before I pulled away.

He looked like he wanted to argue with me but he just sighed. "Alright."

Just then, we heard a voice.

"Michael? Carter?"

We turned around and Elizabeth appeared in the doorway.

"There you two are. I've been looking all-" Her voice trailed off as she looked around the room. "Oh my gosh! This is beautiful."

"You like it?" I asked and she nodded. "Michael did it."

"Really?" He nodded. "You did a wonderful job sweetie."

"Thanks Liz." He chuckled.

"Carter, we better get going." Liz said, looking at her watch.

"Ok Liz. You go ahead, I'll meet you in the car."

She nodded and walked away. I turned back to Michael and wrapped my arms around his neck.

"I'll see you later baby daddy?"

He giggled and nodded. "How long will you be gone?"

"Couple hours," I shrugged. "Not long."

"Alright. I love you."

"I love you too."

He gave me a passionate kiss. After we pulled away, I smiled and walked out of the room.

A Few Hours Later

After going dress shopping, me and Elizabeth decided to come back to Neverland to have lunch with Michael. After we walked inside, I looked around for him but I didn't see him.

"Applehead?!" I yelled out.

I looked down the long hallway to my left and the red light outside of his home recording studio was on.

"He's in the studio," I told Liz.

"Leave him be then. We'll just have lunch together."

I nodded and we walked into the kitchen. The chef had already prepared some chicken noddle soup, along with some salad, earlier so all I had to do was warm it up.

"Out of all those dresses that were there, I'm still surprised you didn't find one," I told Liz.

"I know but none of those dresses were..."the one", you know?"

I took the bowl out of the microwave and walked over to the table with it. "How do you know if a dress is "the one"?"

"Carter baby, I've been married 6 times already. I think I know."

I laughed and poured her soup into a separate bowl before pushing it over to her.

"Thank you," she said and I nodded before sitting down myself. "What about you though?"

"What do you mean?" I asked before taking a slurp of my soup. Chicken noddle was my favorite.

"Seeing those dresses didn't make you think about you and Michael getting married one day?"

I stopped eating and looked up at her. "Well, a little but I'm not rushing anything. Besides, Michael hasn't mentioned us getting married so I haven't either."

"You don't want to?" She frowned a little.

"No, of course I do. I love Michael with all of my heart but...everything's been moving really fast lately and I just want us to take our time with something like that."

"You've known each other for a year and a half, been dating for almost a year, and you two are having a little girl together. That's considered slow these days."

I laughed and stirred my soup absentmindedly. "I don't want a shot gun wedding Liz. I wanna do it right, in a church, with all of our family and friends there supporting us. I definitely don't wanna be pregnant in my wedding dress."

"Yeah I've done that before. It's very uncomfortable," she admitted and we laughed.

"I love Michael and I would love to marry him. Just not anytime soon."

Michael's POV

I cut the red light off in front of the studio and stepped into the hallway. I heard laughter coming from the kitchen so I figured Carter and Liz were back.

I walked down the hallway to the kitchen. I was about to walk in but I caught a piece of whatever Carter was saying.

"I don't want a shot gun wedding Liz. I wanna do it right, in a church, with all of our family and friends there supporting us. I definitely don't wanna be pregnant in my wedding dress." She said.

"Yeah I've done that before. It's very uncomfortable," Liz replied and they both laughed.

"I love Michael and I would love to marry him. Just not anytime soon." Carter said.

I sighed and leaned back against the wall, feeling my heart hurt a little. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small box. I opened it and looked at the diamond engagement ring.

"Looks like I bought you for no reason, huh?"
