Not quite the Social Distancing

Chapter 43

____________________________________________

Taehyung zoned out on the perfect platter of waffles set on the table. The chocolate dripping from its sides, colliding with the swirls of whipped cream that were surrounded by freshly sliced strawberries.

"Wanna switch Tae?" Yoongi's voice resonated in his ears and the brown haired male looked up, smiling sheepishly.

"Nah... I'm good with bacon. I just zoned out on your plate... " Taehyung replied with a small smile.

Taehyung wasn't blind, he could see his friends trying to cheer him up all week. They surely didnt know the whole context of what had happened (except for Jin, who knew everything) but they stuck to him regardless, trying to comfort the male.

Ofcourse, they did catch onto the larger bits when they were all sprawled in the living room the previous evening watching TV and the news popped up with a confirmed marriage of a certain someone. The boys didnt comment, they watched- shocked that too, while Taehyung just got up from his seat and locked himself inside his room.

Jungkook was getting married.

Did it hurt?

Yes.

A lot. It hurt like a fucking bitch.

Taehyung resorted his tears to his pillow while he pulled up a strong wall around his senses on other hours of the day.

It wasn't the fact that Jungkook hit him made him crawl into his sheets, to cry out of his senses. He wasn't one of the biggest school rebels for no reason just to take a hit and cry- that wasn't the reason why Taehyung had his emotions hanging loose by a thread.

It was because of what was happening at the moment.

It was because he had realized no matter how hard he had tried to save Jungkook... the raventte ended up falling right into it.

Taehyung wasn't surprised when the news of marriage came out. He wasn't really surprised, since he had heard that before.

He had heard it almost 2 months ago, when he had met Lee YongWon.

That was why he took the bribe.

"Leave Jungkook's side or it will be Somi facing the wrath of your stubbornness."

He took it for her.

He took it for Somi.

Because he knew how much Jungkook loved his sister and his family.

And no matter what, he wouldnt ever top that position in Jungkook's eyes.

He was merely a fling afterall.

Taehyung gulped, biting his lip to hold back the rush of emotions.

The brown haired male flipped his phone to check his messages, but there were none.

Not a call, not a text.

Not a trace of Jungkook.

Was he alright?

Taehyung sighed as he bit on the toast and swallowed harshly along with the rest of his emotions.

"I'm going to Daegu soon.." Taehyung mumbled.

"For Yoonji's?" Yoongi asked and Taehyung nodded.

"Yeah... also I'm intending on staying there for some time. Try getting some things off my mind for a change.." Taehyung licked his lips.

A Fork clattered beside him and the three looked at the brunette who hadn't spoken a thing through the entire time of breakfast.

Jimin looked up, his eyebrow twitching and his lips pursed with his eyes narrowed.

"You're leaving now?" Jimin asked, pissed.

"Jimin..." Taehyung said softly, sensing the anger from his bestfriend "I need... to get some things off my mind....okay? I need a break."

Jimin opened his mouth to say something but then shut up, turning his attention back to his plate while gripping his fork a little too harshly this time.

Jimin was furious when Taehyung returned home with a purple red cheek and tear stained face a week ago.

Jin and Yoongi literally had to hold back the shorter male, so that he wouldn't rush ahead and commit a serious crime, to which 'he knows the law' certainly wouldn't provide help with 1st degree murder charges.

Let's just say... none of them were having the time of their lives.

Taehyung was dead sad.

Jimin was raging furious.

Jin was constantly worried.

And Yoongi had to deal with a very annoying younger sister who wanted to escape from the hospital.

Absolutely mind-fucking-amazing cause everyone was drained at the end of the day.

"I can't fucking believe this- honestly what the fuck is even going on?!" A familiar voice spoke up behind Taehyung in the Diner. He didn't mean to eavesdrop- but the bunch were just super loud and he couldnt really block them away.

"At this point I won't even be surprised if an Asteroid collides. Seriously. Two weeks ago, he was just Jungkook. A week ago he is announced as the true heir to BH Lee and yesterday they say he's getting married??? Like honey what-"

Taehyung recognized the voice, belonging to a quirky girl they had met once in the same diner.

Chae.

"I'm disappointed in Jungkook. I cant believe he is doing this..."

Taehyung grit his teeth while Jimin's fork skidded on the plate, a screeching sound errupting- probably because he too recognized the voice.

"Yeli you gotta stop with the delulu chants. Let the guy do whatever the fuck he wants. He's a human" Chae spoke up.

"I'm not delulu Chae- He's a heir? Fine. But he's getting married? What the fuck? How can he get married?" Yeli continued, her tone filled with mockery.

"What's your thoughts on this Ri?" Chae quirked up, ignoring the other girl.

"Hmm? Me... I mean.. Chae is right. We're just... his fans... nothing more..." Ri, the quiet girl of the trio muttered earning a snort from the brunette.

"Just his fans???? I didnt blow my pockets for all those albums and merch for him to come back and say he's getting married." Yeli replied venomously "last time it was a dating scandal with some dirty faggot and now this? I can't believe this. I'm gonna set fire to every merch I have of his and I'm unstanning. I hope he rots in hell"

"Would you just shut the fuck up?!" Taehyung blurted out before he could hold his tongue.

His shoulders shaking, his nostrils flaring as he turned around to look at the girl.

"Shut. The. Fuck. Up. Got it? Shut the fuck up." Taehyung snarled at Yeli, earning disapproving glances from the rest of the customers since in their eyes- it was an older man saying nasty stuff to a younger girl.

Not- a man who was madly in love with the guy who the girl was shit talking about.

A whimper left Yeli's lips and Taehyung rolled his eyes mumbling a 'god fucking damnit' and stood up from his seat, walking out of the diner.

The warm air whipped Taehyung's senses and he felt a presence beside him.

"Nice. If you wouldnt have stepped up, I would have hurled a chair at her."

Taehyung snorted, a small smile on his lips.

"That still doesn't define I've come on terms with what Jungkook did." Jimin spoke up defensively.

Taehyung sighed and nodded "I know. It's alright if you don't, I myself haven't come around that yet."

"What do you wanna do now though?" Jimin asked, shoving his hands into his pockets.

"Drink till I pass out and get laid. What about you?" Taehyung replied, his gaze still attached to the road same as the shorter brunette next to him.

"Hmmm... sounds like a plan. By getting laid is the last thing that should be on your list. And... Day drinking sounds just as dramatic as it sounds." Jimin shrugged.

"I wanna commit crimes. Vandalize buildings and shit. I wanna feel bad ass. Not like Eyore from Winnie the Pooh" Taehyung pouted, his eyes counting the cars zipping by.

"Jin hyung will go all Umbridge on you if you do that- you know it. The whole set up also fits. Pink and Twink." Jimin snickered, earning a light smack from Taehyung.

"No seriously, what's on your mind?" Jimin asked seriously, desperately wanting to cheer Taehyung up again.

"I wanna just forget things for some time.. and no, please not dr-"

"DRUGS!" Jimin yelled earning judging glances from stranger around while Taehyung smacked Jimin again, suppressing his smile, while Jimin laughed out loud.

They chuckled for a bit more seemingly appearing like crackheads as strangers distanced themselves from the duo.

Not quite the social distancing- but oh well....

The two settled down, as their laughs were reduced.

"I've got a perfect idea... lemme take you on a date my dear Princess Peaches" Jimin said with a dramatic curtsey.

Taehyung chuckled, playing along.

"Lead on dear Prince Eric.."

********

"NO! NO- God! Stop Please! I'm sorry! JIM- OH SHI- OH CRAP- AH NO!" Taehyung yelled, trying to run for his life as he tripped on his feet and flopped on the floor as a whole landslide of kids tumbled on him, giggling out loud.

Jimin's squeaky laughter could be heard, but Taehyung couldn't see the male anywhere although he could surely picture the brunette on the floor laughing his ass out.

"OKAY I GIVE UP. TIME OUT- TIME OUT!" Taehyung yelped, his face red from laughing so much.

The little army of kids eased and collapsed on the floor, equally tired as Taehyung.

Cardio wasn't ever Taehyung's thing- sure he played sport back in Highschool but he was more of a by-the-book and wouldn't-hesitate-to-punch-you badboy with a fairly good school record when it came down to grades.

It was Jimin who had the main athletic strain and was the typical jock with a natural bad boy aura. Although the brunette wasnt as great as Taehyung with studies, he was exceptionally good- no the best at dancing. Jimin surely would have gotten into the Soccer team with his abilities, but dancing was what Jimin lived for.

The two were inseparable since forever regardless their main strains. Jimin and Taehyung were like soulmates.

"Is this where you spend your Saturdays?" Taehyung peeked his eye open to catch Jimin sprawled on the ground just like him.

"Yeah... it started out with eomma dragging me in her to sanctify my soul.." Jimin laughed watching Taehyung's expression "no I'm just kidding... it started out with forced charity work thanks to eomma- but I genuinely started liking this place. Its loud, but peaceful you know..."

"Who even knew- Park Jimin charity working in an orphanage..." Taehyung chuckled.

"Hey- we dont do the hating here." Jimin shot back and Taehyung put his hands up in a surrender.

"Jiminie oppa, can we color today?" A girl with two pony tails asked the brunette, prodding her finger in Jimin's arm.

"Yes! Let's color! But what are the rules first?" Jimin paused looking at the girl and then at the rest of them.

"Only color the pages, not the walls." The lot of children replied with unison and Jimin smiled, proudly.

"Yes! Let's go!!" The brunette hollered and everyone cheered rushing out of the play room.

"What even happened in here?" Taehyung chuckled as he dusted his pants.

"Eveything bad. Just know that Mother Superior wasn't glad seeing her portrait drawn on the wall- which was infact so eeiry that it looked like Valak from the Nun" Jimin snorted at the memory but then reduced to squeaky laughter, Taehyung joining him with the laugh.

The duo followed the children into the art room, as everyone took their respective places.

Taehyung distributed the papers while Jimin lend out the colors.

It felt nice... spending time with such amazing children really eased Taehyung. The pain in his chest was reduced with each second he spent with the kids.

He didnt feel like he was caught in the endless spiral of trauma... it was just... calm.

And calm was what Taehyung desperately needed other than a certain raventte wrapped in his arms.

Taehyung sighed, but a small smile danced on his lips as he gazed into the distance.

"Taehyo hyung!" A little boy, with jet black hair called out to Taehyung, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"Hmm Haechannie?" Taehyung cooed as the boy skipped his way towards the male.

"This is for you." Little Haechan smiled, handing the masterpiece to Taehyung.

Taehyung smiled as he took the paper.

The art was colorful and at the center were two stick figures holding hands- where one was in a shirt and pants, while the other was in a shirt and a skirt.

"This is Taehyo hyung and this is Taehyo hyung's girlfriend!" Haechan smiled pointing the figures respectively with his chubby finger.

Taehyung smiled and was about to thank the male, but Jimin was quick to jump in.

"Taehyo hyung doesn't have a girlfriend Haechannie..."

Taehyung frowned at Jimin but Haechan's pouty confused expression softened Taehyung's annoyance.

"No worries Taehyo hyung! I have an idea!" Haechan smiled brightly as he grabbed a blue crayon and began coloring on his masterpiece.

Taehyung tried peeking but it was no victory as Haechan hid his art well.

Few more minutes later, Haechan came running back, handing the paper to Taehyung.

Taehyung smiled again at the art, regardless how messy it was. There wasn't a figure in skirt anymore but a figure in long blue pants and a hand held out holding a small stick with a blob at its end as if it was a some lightstick.

"This is Taehyo hyung... and this is Taehyo hyung's boyfriend and because Taehyo hyung is sad, Taehyo hyung's boyfriend is singing for him to make him happy...." Haechan smiled brightly, while Taehyung's own smile faltered.

Tears brimmed to his eyes as he pursed his quivering lips shut

"See Haechannie pabo... you made Taehyo oppa sad!" A girl named Momo cut in, her eyebrows crushed into a cute frown.

"Taehyo hyung... did I make you sad?" Haechan pouted.

Taehyung blinked his tears away and smiled, looking up at the little boy.

"No... you didnt... you didn't make me sad. I'm- I'm happy seeing this.." Taehyung smiled as he booped the little boy's nose.

"Can Hyung keep it?" Taehyung asked, tilting his head.

Haechan erupted into smiles as he nodded aggressively and hugged Taehyung, who chuckled fondly at the boy.

Tucking the art away as he fondly spoke to the kids, desperately trying to bury his surfacing emotions.

Jungkook just wouldnt leave his head. Taehyung saw the raventte everywhere and it hurt Taehyung... but just for the sake of the kids, Taehyung let his thoughts bury.

He missed Jungkook... but he needed to find his headspace too and try settling his heart- and so he did.

The time passed away and Taehyung was over the moon.

They told stories, spoke about dreams, played tag again, sang for a bit and Jimin danced for the kids who rolled in never ending cheers.

And by the time the day had dimmed- the two were near the door, bidding their goodbyes.

The kids absolutely loved the new company and Taehyung wasnt lying, when he promised them he would visit them soon- he loved the day as well.

A piece of paper was folded and tucked away into Taehyung's pockets safely, right against his heart that thumped rhythmically.

Jimin and Taehyung walked alongside, as they stepped into the street.

The air was cool and it was fairly nicer outdoors. Jimin didnt say much, neither did Taehyung as they listened to soft hums of the wind.

Taehyung felt Jimin's hand grip onto his wrist and the two halted, Taehyung's face morphed into confusion watching Jimin's hostile expression.

Following Jimin's gaze, Taehyung found a figure leaning against a sleek black car.

Taehyung gulped slightly as the figure looked up to meet their gazes.

Xi Luang.

What was he doing here? Taehyung wondered.

"Mr Kim." The man bowed a little, while the other two watched bewildered.

"If you may, there's something you need to know. Can we talk somewhere alone?" Xi Luang asked, his voice clear and crisp.

Taehyung hesitated for a bit and watching this Xi Luang shifted his gaze at Jimin, who narrowed his eyes in return.

"Your friend can accompany us, if that will make you comfortable." Xi Luang said.

Taehyung was conflicted. He didnt know if he should trust the man.

Last time he had seen Xi Liang, he was standing outside Lee YongWon's car.

Sighing, Taehyung made his way to the car, Jimin following closely.

The duo crept into the backseat and strapped their seatbelts, as Xi Luang took the passenger seat in the front while the driver revved off.

There was eeiry silence for the most of the drive and Jimin flipped open his Snapchat location and texted Jin just in case- just... in case.

The car stopped at an open air cafe that was half an hour away from Seoul city.

It was an odd setting and Taehyung couldnt help but feel cautious same as Jimin.

"Xi Luang-shii why have you brought us here?" Taehyung asked calmly.

"The city has a lot of eyes and I cannot risk being caught." The man replied as he stepped up the stairs.

The sky was orange-blue giving a perfect sight of the sunset due to the top view.

Xi Luang settled on a chair around a table, while Jimin and Taehyung took their seats alongside, opposite to Xi Luang.

"Would you like to order something first?" Xi Luang offered.

"Cut to the chase." Jimin snapped, his hostile aura dripping everywhere.

Xi Luang sighed and nodded.

"I know that you were forced to take the bribe and I know what Sajang-nim Lee had used against you to agree on his terms." Xi Luang spoke softly.

"But... there's nothing much you can do about it, even if you go against him all he would have to do is deny and that will be the end of it."

"We know that asshole! dont rub it on us" Jimin snarled.

"Jimin.." Taehyung whispered squeezing the Male's thigh.

"B-But.."

"Please... let me handle this okay?" Taehyung pleaded and the brunette sighed.

"Yes... go on Xi Luang-shii " Taehyung breathed out.

"You have to know this, I've worked as Sajangnim Lee's assistant for almost 25 years now. I have been loyal to him, I still am and I will always be.... but today I'm here behind his back, because of Jungkook."

"I've known Jungkook ever since his birth and I care about him dearly- although we dont see each other much."

Taehyung hummed pursing his lips.

"Jungkook is in a real tight spot now. He's got new tight security that wont let him out of their sights, his phone's confiscated, he mostly is confined to his estate and only me, Manager Namjoon-nim , the choreographer, the vocal teacher and his fiancè, Hani are allowed to meet him- not even his sister, Somi."

Taehyung swallowed hard. He didnt know what to feel.

"Why... why are you telling me this?" Taehyung croaked out.

Xi Luang sighed "because everyday he cries that he needs to see you."

Taehyung's breath hitched in his throat.

The walls tearing down because god dammit it was hurting so bad.

"- but with the current circumstances... that's impossible, because Sajang-nim Lee has made it that way..." Xi Luang said cautiously.

Jimin almost popped a nerve but Taehyung had to squeeze Jimin's thigh again, to ease him.

"But you need to understand.... it's not Sajang-nim Lee who is the problem here." Xi Luang spoke clearly.

"What do you mean to say?" Taehyung questioned, his eyebrows scrunching.

"Sajang-nim Lee... is doing what he needs to do to protect Jungkook in his own way. I know... it doesn't seem the best way, but it is what it is. You weren't the only one who was shown that abusive video by Jaehwa group's daughter... SaJang-nim Lee was shown first and for the first time SaJang-nim Lee didnt have answers in his entire career. He didnt have a choice but to bend by her choices."

"SaJang-nim Lee had to agree as it was Jungkook's fame and life on stake there.... just like you, SaJang-nim Lee didnt have a choice."

Taehyung let out a feathered breath "t-then why did h-he.."

"Although it was a question for marriage what Hani had put up, SaJang-nim Lee announced his heir as Jungkook so out of the blue was to give him the foundation. To hand him the power. If married and Jungkook declines the seat in the dark, it'd go straight to the CEO of Jaehwa Group, Hani's father being the imminent bear holder... if already announced to the public, that he indeed is the heir- it'd be portrayed as a shame for Jaehwa group to take over Jungkook's seat- that's why SaJang-nim announced it properly, regardless of Jungkook's wishes."

"And for the bribe and threatens... those were Hani's conditions. Knowing you wouldnt budge by her words, she pitched in SaJang-nim Lee to do it..."

"SaJang-nim Lee did, what he had to do to protect Jungkook's image..." Xi Luang breathed out watching in silence at the the duo.

"I call this bullshit! You're telling me the greatest CEO of East Asia got caught up with a girl's tantrums?! I'm not believing this. Thanks for wasting our time-" Jimin rambled angrily standing up from his chair.

"Jimin sit down. Please." Taehyung yanked onto the brunettes's shirt who plopped back down, grumbling to himself.

"I know it's hard to believe... but this is only a part of what Hani had pulled up against SaJang-nim Lee.... there's a lot more than that, and he can't risk much at the moment." Xi Luang mumbled.

"So, Jungkook's just a scape goat to him? To let him be massacred in this mess?" Taehyung frowned

"It would seem like that... but SaJang-nim Lee is trying to find ways out of this. Trust me, he doesn't want Jaehwa group anywhere near Jungkook... but he doesnt have any leads. Jaehwa has always been squeaky clean you see..." Xi Luang wiped his forehead.

"So... why are you telling me this?" Taehyung paused.

"Because... because you should know this..." Xi Luang replied, sighing.

"I... I cant trust Lee YongWon... despite how true his intentions may be with Jungkook. I dont why you wanted to tell me this- but I dont have any leads against Jaehwa either." Taehyung said standing up.

Xi Luang stood up as well and silently the three followed their trail back to the car.

Silence enveloped them yet again, as they drove back to Seoul while many thoughts interrupted Taehyung's train of thinking.

Yoonji.

Yoonji was his lead to have something against Jaehwa but he didnt say it outloud.

One thing about growing up with someone who was an attorney- Taehyung had learn a lot of things, including not to give away stuff on sight.

He couldnt risk Yoonji's life or anybody else's for the matter. Taehyung didnt know if Xi Luang was even genuine- he didnt trust him or Lee YongWon for that matter.

He hated Lee YongWon.

But he hated Hani even more with a burning passion.

In no time, the driver pulled near the same orphanage wher they had picked the duo from.

Without exchanging much, Jimin and Taehyung stepped out of the car before Xi Luang rolled his window down.

"Mr Kim!"

Taehyung turned his attention to the male, with a questioning look.

"Is there something.... you'd like to be delivered back to Mr. Jeon?" Xi Luang asked, his tone sincere and eyes clear of any malice.

Taehyung looked at his feet and then back at Xi Luang.

"Euphoria. Tell him to remember his Euphoria." Taehyung replied, his voice cold but his eyes bursting with emotions.

Taehyung turned on his heel and walked away with fastened pace and Jimin on his side.

The two walked ahead with heavy silence surrounding them.

No thoughts. Head empty.

Taehyung was tired, so was Jimin.

And as if the day couldnt get any worse, Taehyung had to hold himself back from running head first into the figure and slam her into the pavement.

"Is that her? Tell me it's her. God is it bad that I want to punch a woman?" Jimin whisper shouted noticing the change in Taehyung's aura.

"Yes that's her. But dont do anything yet." Taehyung warned.

"Oh! You're here... I was getting worried that I've arrived near a Dumpster street but guess I was right... you do live here." Hani snickered.

Taehyung rolled his eyes and thrusted his hands into his pockets. He really couldnt trust his fist anymore.

"Mind moving you car somewhere else woman? There's people here who are trying to go home.. " a voice spoke up from the other side and the three turned to look at the cat-like man with jet black hair.

"Oh I didnt know this was your home..." Hani sneered and Yoongi just stayed still, unaffected, his gaze running back to Taehyung with an indication of who-this-bitch and the male mouthed 'Hani'

"Move or I'm breaking it." Yoongi deadpanned, turning his attention to the girl.

Hani scoffed "you wouldn't. You have no idea how expensive this car is. This car is more expensive than your whole worth you stupid lit- what are you doing?"

Hani watched with confusion as Yoongu went over the lawn, bending to pick up something.

Yoongi didnt answer but turned around with a palm-sized rock in his hand.

"I said move your car." Yoongi said, bored.

"You... You wouldnt-"

"Dont try me. Move your damn car and leave before I call the police on you for harassing people." Yoongi said unfazed.

Hani scoffed, her lips tugging into a malicious smirk "huh... you must be the girl's brother. You both look awfully similar."

Yoongi stayed still, being used to the comment.

"Too bad she got hurt when it wasnt even her fault..." Hani clicked her tongue, making Yoongi furrow his eyebrows.

"What's Yoonji got to do with this?" Yoongi asked calmly.

"Nothing... she was just where she shouldnt have been." Hani smiled.

Taehyung gripped onto Jimin's arm, to hold him in place before he'd do something rash.

Hani turned to Taehyung "I told you I was being nice that time... you should have listened to me when I was being nice."

Taehyung grit his teeth, anger coursing through his veins.

"You got everything you wanted. Leave me and my friends alone..." Taehyubg snarled.

"Dropping Jungkook so fast huh? I knew it... nobody can love him the way I did... you just proved it now." Hani smiled through his words.

"I'm asking you to leave right now. Leave." Taehyung growled with a threatening tone.

"But I havent got everything I wanted. The deal was you to leave this place... why are you still here? Do you want to risk more things than what you can hold?" Hani chuckled evily, enjoying the silence.

"No? That's what I thought. Leave.. dont come back. If you want to keep your Jungkook safe... then fucking leave... dont come back." Hani said in a threatening tone as she turned around and headed towards her car.

"Oh and-" Hani smiled sweetly turning around to face Taehyung "how silly of me- I forgot about this"

She pulled out an envelope from her purse and threw it on the floor near Taehyung's feet.

"You're not invited to the wedding, but do make an appearance for the engagement. Jungkook and I would love to see you there" Hani giggled sweetly as she flirtatiously waved at the male. Stepping back inside her car, Hani revved off leaving the three stranded on the sidewalk.

"Do make an appearance for the engagement" Jimin mocked, finally bursting out of his angry bubble. "I will make an appearance to your funeral bitch!"

Stepping on the invitation Jimin walked ahead, sending a judging look at Yoongi who was still standing with a rock in his hand.

"You're useless. Should have hurled that rock on her when you had the chance" Jimin clicked his tongue

"gimme that- you'll hurt yourself!" Jimin yelled snatching the rock from Yoongi's hands and tossing it back on the lawn, where it was.

"Useless! I live with useless people! I cant believe a whore downgraded us! Fucking us-" Jimin went on yelling all the way inside the house until he slammed the door shut on his back.

Taehyung breathed out softly, his eyes on the invitation lying on the ground.

Taehyung picked it up, with his remaining courage and flipped it out.

"Breathe Tae... breathe..." Yoongi mumbled softly as he patted Taehyung's back.

Taehyung bit his quivering lips, his chest burning, reading the beautiful golden italics on the scented paper.

Jeon Jungkook & Ahn Hani

Taehyung patted the side of his chest where his heart rested.

He closed his eyes and let out a feathery breath, his eyes stinging, his lashes wet.

Damn it hurt.

It hurt a lot.
