~Chapter 4~

⚠️long chapter ahead

Anushka's voice trembles as she dials Prabhas's number, recounting the unexpected moment from the vanity van. "Prabhas! You won't believe what just happened! Gopichand proposed to me... sort of."

Prabhas's tone is casual, expecting a usual chat. "What's up, Sweetu? What's going on?"

Anushka takes a deep breath. "He asked me to be his girlfriend! And now I'm wondering... should I say yes?"

Prabhas's tone shifts from casual to shocked. "Whoa, hold on, Sweetu! You're asking me for advice on this? You're always the one with the answers, and now you're coming to me for help?"

Anushka laughs nervously. "I know, I know, it's weird. But I value your opinion, Prabhas. And I'm really unsure about this one."

Prabhas still sounds stunned. "Okay, okay... I'll try to be objective. But seriously, Sweetu, you're asking me if you should date Gopichand? That's like asking me to choose between pizza and biryani!"

Anushka giggles. "Well, kind of! But seriously, Prabhas, help me out here. What do you think?"

Prabhas takes a deep breath, composing himself. "Okay, let's break it down. What are your feelings for Gopichand? Do you see him in a romantic light?"

Anushka's voice turns thoughtful. "Honestly, Prabhas, I've always thought of him as just a friend. But when he asked me, I felt a spark. Maybe it's the idea of something new, or maybe it's real... I don't know."

Prabhas's tone turns serious. "Sweetu, you need to figure out if that spark is real or just a curiosity. You can't risk hurting Gopichand or yourself if it's not genuine."

Anushka sighs. "I know. That's why I'm so torn. What if I say yes and it doesn't work out? What if I say no and I'm missing out on something amazing?"

Prabhas's voice is filled with empathy. "Those are valid fears, but you can't make a decision based on 'what-ifs.' You need to listen to your heart, Sweetu. What does it tell you?"

Anushka pauses, reflecting. "I... I think I need more time to think. But talking to you has helped, Prabhas. Thanks for being honest with me."

Prabhas chuckles. "Anytime, Sweetu......................................

Sweety, tagged along her best friend, Prabhas, to the date, much to Gopichand's surprise.

As Prabhas (Pupsu) arrived at the rooftop restaurant / cafe , he couldn't help but notice that Gopichand (Gopi) was empty-handed. Meanwhile, Sweety's eyes lit up seeing Prabhas walk towards them, bouquet in hand.

Prabhas, being the quick-thinking friend that he is, pretended to hand the bouquet to Gopi, saying, "Hey, Gopi, here's the bouquet you wanted me to bring for Sweety!"

Sweety's face lit up with delight, impressed by Gopi's thoughtful gesture. "Aww, thank you so much, Gopi! My favorite flowers!"

Gopi, oblivious to the switch, smiled and thanked Prabhas, thinking he had actually remembered to bring the flowers.

Later, when they were alone, Gopi turned to Prabhas and said, "Thanks, man! I totally forgot to get flowers, and you saved me!"

Prabhas just winked and said, "Anytime, buddy! That's what friends are for!"

Sweety remained none the wiser, still gushing about Gopi's thoughtful gesture, while Prabhas enjoyed the inside joke, knowing he had played matchmaker and saved the day!

As they sipped their coffees and enjoyed the breathtaking view, Sweety and Prabhas couldn't help but chat excitedly about their upcoming projects, leaving Gopichand to listen intently. Prabhas, known for his wit and humor, had Sweety in stitches, making Gopichand feel slightly left out.

Gopichand, who had proposed to Sweety a few days ago, had confided in Prabhas about his plans, knowing that Sweety valued her best friend's opinion. Prabhas, being the loyal friend that he was, had kept Gopichand's secret and advised him to follow his heart.

As the night wore on, the trio enjoyed a delicious dinner, with Sweety and Prabhas engaging in a heated debate about the best South Indian cuisine. Gopichand tried to join in, but found himself struggling to keep up with their rapid-fire banter.

It wasn't that Sweety was ignoring him-she smiled at him often, checked in on whether he was enjoying the evening-but the ease, the comfort she had with Prabhas, was something he couldn't quite replicate.

Despite the fun they were having, Gopichand couldn't shake off the feeling of jealousy that had been growing inside him. He couldn't help but feel left out of the strong bond between Sweety and Prabhas, wondering if he would ever be able to bridge the gap.

As the evening drew to a close, Sweety leaned over and whispered something in Prabhas's ear, making him burst out laughing. Gopichand's eyes narrowed, feeling a pang of insecurity. Was he losing Sweety to their friendship?

Little did he know, Sweety and Prabhas were just discussing their next project together............

After clearing the Bill the three of them stepped out of the restaurant, Gopichand stole a glance at Sweety, trying to read her expression. It had been a few days since he had asked her to be his girlfriend, and though she hadn't said no, she hadn't said yes either. Instead, she had told him she needed time-something he was trying to be patient about.

But tonight, watching her with Prabhas, he couldn't help but wonder: Was she really thinking about it, or was she just avoiding answering?

The easy way she laughed at Prabhas's jokes, the way they finished each other's sentences-it made him question whether he even stood a chance.

"Alright, guys," Prabhas stretched, breaking the silence. "What's the plan now? Ice cream? Late-night drive?"

Sweety immediately perked up. "Ooh! Ice cream sounds amazing!"

Gopichand hesitated. He had been hoping for some time alone with Sweety-to talk, to maybe get some clarity. "Actually, Sweety, I was thinking maybe we could-"

"Wait, Pupsu," she interrupted, turning to Prabhas. "Remember that place we used to go to during shoots? The one with the crazy sundaes?"

Prabhas's eyes lit up. "Of course! We should totally go!"

Gopichand cleared his throat. "Sweety, I was thinking we could-"

"Oh! Gopi, do you like chocolate sundaes?" she asked, completely missing the hesitation in his voice.

Gopichand forced a smile. "Yeah... sure."

Prabhas clapped him on the back. "That's the spirit, buddy! Let's go!"

As they sat at the ice cream parlor, Sweety and Prabhas continued their lively discussion about their upcoming film. Gopichand listened, trying to find the right moment to interject, but the conversation flowed so naturally between them that he felt like an outsider.

Finally, as Prabhas went to place their order, Gopichand leaned in slightly. "Sweety, can we talk? Just us?"

Sweety looked up, surprised by his serious tone. "Of course, Gopi. What's up?"

He hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "I know you said you needed time to think about my proposal... but watching you with Prabhas tonight, I have to ask-is there even a real choice to make?"

Her eyes widened. "Gopi..."

"I mean, look at you two," he continued, his voice softer now. "You don't even realize it, but you fit together so easily. I'm starting to wonder if I should've seen this before."

Sweety exhaled, suddenly feeling the weight of his words. "Gopi, I do care about you. And I really have been thinking. It's just... Prabhas has been in my life for so long that he's my comfort zone. It's not-"

"-Not romantic?" Gopichand finished for her, his expression unreadable.

She hesitated, and for the first time, she wasn't sure how to answer.

Just then, Prabhas returned, sliding the ice cream in front of them. "Okay, three sundaes, extra toppings because I don't do boring desserts!"

Sweety let out a breath, smiling at Prabhas, though her mind was still lingering on Gopichand's words.

Gopichand watched the way she looked at Prabhas-the way her face lit up effortlessly-and suddenly, he realized...

Maybe he had been hoping for something that was never his to have.

And maybe, deep down, Sweety had been avoiding the answer because she already knew it..............

Sweety and Prabhas shared nothing more than pure friendship, and Gopi knew that-deep down, he trusted them both. But still, the easy equation between them couldn't stop the bitter feeling gnawing at his heart........

The ice cream parlour had been lively, full of laughter and playful teasing, but Gopichand couldn't shake the unease sitting in his chest. He had done his best to stay in the moment, to enjoy dinner with Sweety and Prabhas like always, but the easy rhythm between them was hard to ignore.

It wasn't jealousy-at least, not in the usual sense. He knew Sweety and Prabhas were just best friends. Knew they'd been in each other's lives for years. But sometimes, when they slipped into their own little world of inside jokes and silent glances, he felt like he was watching from the outside.

Lying in bed later that night, he was still replaying the evening when his phone buzzed.

Sweetu Calling.

His heart skipped, fingers swiping to answer. "Hey, Sweetu. Everything okay?"

There was a pause, then her familiar voice, soft and thoughtful. "Yeah. I just... I felt like I left something unsaid tonight."

Gopichand sat up. "What do you mean?"

Sweety sighed, as if gathering her words. "I know you, Gopi. And I could tell you weren't entirely yourself today."

He hesitated but eventually admitted, "I guess I just... I don't know, Sweetu. Sometimes it feels like I'm stepping into a space that already exists-like I'll always be one step behind when it comes to you and Prabhas."

Sweety was silent for a moment before she spoke, her tone gentle but certain. "Gopi, you do have a place. And it's not behind me, or Prabhas, or anyone. It's beside me."

He exhaled, processing her words. "Yeah?"

"Yeah," she said, a small smile evident in her voice. "And I've been thinking about it a lot. About us."

His heart picked up pace. "And?"

Sweety took a breath. "And... my answer is yes."

For a second, he thought he imagined it. "Wait-yes?"

She laughed. "Yes, you idiot. I'd love to be your girlfriend."

Gopichand let out a breath of relief, a slow smile spreading across his face. "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to hear that."

"Well, you were patient," she teased. "Mostly."

He chuckled. "And totally worth the wait."

"You'd better say that," she shot back. Then, a little softer, "I'm happy, Gopi. With you."

His grip on the phone tightened, warmth filling his chest. "Me too, Sweetu."

A comfortable silence settled between them before he smirked. "So, should I expect Prabhas to give me a long 'welcome to the club' speech tomorrow?"

She groaned. "Ugh, don't remind me. He's never going to let me live this down."

"Good," Gopichand said smugly. "Because neither will I."

She laughed, and he let himself sink into the sound, knowing that whatever doubts he'd had before-whatever insecurities had crept in-were no match for the way she made him feel in this moment.

He had his answer. And more than that, he had her..................

Prabhas had always been the glue in their trio-the one who made them laugh, the one who diffused tension with a joke, the one who had been there for Sweety through everything. But now, something was different. He could feel it in the way Gopichand's arm found its way around Sweety's waist, in the way she leaned into him just a little more, in the way they shared those subtle, unspoken glances. It wasn't jealousy-Prabhas had never seen Sweety in that way-but he knew things had shifted. And so, he adjusted.

He still joked around, still called her Sweetu with the same teasing lilt, still pulled Gopichand's leg whenever he got too serious. But he also knew where to draw the line now. He didn't casually throw his arm over her shoulder anymore. He didn't steal fries from her plate without asking. He didn't interrupt their conversations like he used to. And more than anything, he made sure that whenever they were together, he gave Gopichand the space to be the one beside her.

Sweety noticed.

One evening, as they sat at their usual café, Prabhas leaned back in his chair, smirking as he watched Gopichand carefully pick the mushrooms out of his pizza. "So, official boyfriend duty means handling Sweetu's weird food habits now, huh?"

Sweety rolled her eyes. "Oh, shut up, Pupsu. At least he doesn't steal my food like someone I know."

Prabhas chuckled but didn't argue back like he normally would. He simply shrugged and took a sip of his coffee. Sweety caught the subtle shift-normally, he'd have swiped something off her plate by now just to annoy her. But today, he didn't.

Later, as they walked to the parking lot, Sweety nudged him with her elbow. "You're acting different."

Prabhas smirked. "What, not annoying you enough?"

She shot him a look. "I mean it, Pupsu. You're keeping your distance."

His smile faltered for a split second before he looked away, rubbing the back of his neck. "Well, things are different now, aren't they? You and Gopi are official. I just don't want to be in the way."

Sweety stopped walking, her brows furrowing. "You're never in the way, Prabhas. You're my best friend."

He exhaled, giving her a small smile. "And I always will be. But best friends also know when to take a step back."

Her heart clenched a little at his words. Part of her wanted to tell him he didn't need to-that nothing had to change. But deep down, she knew he was right. Things had changed. And maybe, this was his way of respecting that.

Still, she reached out, squeezing his arm gently. "Just... don't go too far, okay?"

Prabhas chuckled, shaking his head. "Sweetu, you're stuck with me. I'm just letting Gopi take the lead now."

With that, he ruffled her hair like old times and climbed into his car. As she watched him drive away, she felt a pang of something she couldn't quite name-not sadness, not regret, but the quiet ache of knowing that even the strongest friendships evolve.

And she could only hope that no matter how much things changed, she would never lose him.

Days later Prabhas Sweety nd Gopichand met again at there usual cafe nd they chitchatted about their lives nd their ongoing nd upcoming projects..... Gopichand nd Sweety were casted as the lead pair...in a new film ..nd They informed that about the same to Prabhas nd they continued their banter......later that day
as Gopichand and Prabhas stood by their cars, waiting for Sweety to finish a call, Gopichand cleared his throat. "You know, Prabhas... you don't have to hold back."

Prabhas raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

Gopichand shrugged, looking thoughtful. "I see you keeping your distance. You don't have to. Sweety and I both know where we stand. You'll always be important to her."

Prabhas let out a small chuckle, shaking his head. "I know that, Gopi. But you're her person now, and that means something. I just want to make sure I respect that."

Gopichand studied him for a moment before nodding. "I appreciate that, man. But don't forget-you're family to her. To both of us."

Prabhas grinned, patting Gopichand on the shoulder. "And that's why I'm still going to make fun of you every chance I get."

Gopichand rolled his eyes. "Of course you will."

Just then, Sweety walked over, tucking her phone into her bag. "Alright, I'm done. What were you two gossiping about?"

Prabhas smirked. "Just Gopi here being all sentimental. You'd be proud."

Sweety raised an eyebrow at Gopichand, who just shook his head. "Ignore him."

She chuckled, slipping her arm through Gopichand's. "Come on, let's get going. We have an early call time tomorrow."

Prabhas nodded. "Yeah, yeah, off you go, power couple." Then, looking at Sweety, he added, "Don't forget, Sweetu-if Gopi gets too serious on set, it's my job to balance him out."

Sweety laughed. "I'd expect nothing less, Pupsu."

As they parted ways, Prabhas watched them walk to their car, a fond smile playing on his lips. Change was inevitable, but some bonds-no matter how they evolved-would always remain.

And as long as they had each other, that was all that really mattered............
