Chapter 50 - The Babies Are Coming
Wednesday, December 19th, 2018
Kam's POV
Ever since the weekend that Layla and Bliss left to go back home, these kids of mine have become very restless. I hardly get any sleep. Cris gives me massages daily now.
Too many times I have given him icy stares. The late-night food cravings were off the chain. Cris says he is not mad, but I feel terrible lashing out at him. And, also Jake and my dad too.
I am so glad that Layla and Bliss are on their way to Florida at the moment. And, at any moment now, my little Isabella and Kekoa are going to be here. I already have a feeling that those two are going to be bad. But, guess what? They are going to get the same treatment that my dad, and I am sure Antonio gave Cris too - a spanking.
I put my own self on bed rest because of what they are doing inside my body.
Cris went to take the twins to school. He should be home soon.
Jake is here with me. Jake told us that Briana was able to get the job that she wanted at Diamond Grove General Hospital. She will start in January, just in time when their house will be completed.
Diamond Grove is where Noeli hopes her residency is when she graduates medical school in the summer of 2019. She was smart like I was. And, is graduating early.
I suddenly heard footsteps coming towards' our bedroom.
"Sweetheart, how are you feeling now?"
"Extremely tired. I tried getting up off of the bed, but my body was too tired to sit up. I would like to sit in the chaise lounge."
Cris walked over to my side of the bed. "I will help you up, Kamea."
Cris placed my hands in his and helped me up. Then, we took a short walk over to the lounge chair. "My feet are fat. I hope they are born tomorrow. Did Alicia give birth on time?"
"She was actually a few days early." We finally reached the lounge chair. Cris sat with me, so I laid my head on his chest. He started playing in my hair and massaging my belly and back.
"The bags are already packed in the truck - one for you and one for the twins. We are ready. And, I put their car seats in your Range Rover."
"Can I stay in one of the bedrooms downstairs? That way if my water breaks, I will already be downstairs."
"Of course. Do you want to go now or wait until later?"
"I think now would be best." So, Cris got up first, then took my hands and led me downstairs. Cris and I decided for me to deliver the twins in the OR. I want to do a natural birth, which means a whole lot of pushing. And, I already said for them to give me an epidural.
It took us like 20 minutes to get downstairs. We put lounge chairs in every bedroom, except the kids' rooms. By the time we reached the bedroom, I was pooped. So, I sat in the chair.
"I'll get you some water, love. And, here is the television remote."
"Can you just bring a pitcher? That is how much water I feel like I can drink. And, thank you."
"I'll be right back."
Noeli and Marco are on the way, as well as Marissa and Andre. Cris came back with a pitcher of water and a large cup of ice.
"Thanks, handsome." Then, he sat with me in the lounge chair, continuing to massage my belly and back.
Just as I was about to fall asleep, my phone rang. So, Cris answered it.
Cris' POV
"Hi Cris, this is Bliss. We just landed in Florida."
"Good. Kamea's bodyguard, Jake, is going to drive Layla's truck to the airport."
"Okay. Shane already went to get us one. He can ride back with us."
"Sounds like a plan. See you all when you get here."
"Thanks. See you shortly."
******************************
Then we both hung up the phone.
By the time I got off the phone, Kamea had fallen asleep. So, I carried her over to the bed and laid down with her. I will do all I can to make sure she is as comfortable as she could be.
About an hour later, Jake was back with Layla and Bliss. I got up off the bed to go greet everyone.
"Uncle Cris!" Braelyn ran over to me, so I held out my arms and picked her up.
"How is my girl doing?"
"I'm fine, Uncle Cris. Where is auntie?"
"She is taking a nap." Then, the rest of the group came in. I saw that Bliss was walking with crutches.
"Hey, how are you all doing? Bliss, what happened? Please tell me Chase did not do this to you."
"Hi, Cris. No, he didn't. It was actually an accident at work."
"It was me, Cris. My hands got happy, so I tried to rush Bliss into her office. She tripped and broke her ankle. I feel terrible about it every day."
"Cris, I have to tell Shane every day that it was an accident. I know he would never hurt me."
"Um, Shane you are going to have some serious explaining to do to when Kalani comes. When he sees Bliss' ankle in a cast, you're in trouble. He is picking the twins up from school now." Shane started squirming on the couch. Kalani and Bliss became close the last time Bliss was here. He treats her like his adoptive daughter.
"Hey, Layla and Ryan. How are you doing?"
"I can't complain. Thankfully, my morning sickness stopped."
"Didn't you have a doctor's appointment yesterday? And, what are you having - a boy or girl?"
"It's weird to explain. We know what we are having, but on the other hand, we don't know. I told the doctor to hand the results to our moms. Since gender reveal parties are now popular, we wanted to have one. Our moms are hosting the party. And, we want you, Kam, and the kids to be there."
"When would you like to have it? You all can have it here."
"We were thinking the beginning of February if that is okay with you guys."
"How about the second Saturday in February?"
"Sounds like a plan, Cris. Thank you so much!"
"Sounds like the twins are home with Nonno Kalani."
Shane really started fidgeting now. Both Día and Rocco came running into the living room.
"Daddy!"
"How was school today?"
"We had fun, daddy!" Día saw Braelyn, and they took off upstairs. But, my mini-me, made a beeline to Bliss. When he saw her foot, he asked, "What happened?" Then, he knelt down to touch her cast.
As soon as he said that, Kalani asked the same thing, "Yes, what happened to my adopted daughter?"
Kalani's POV
Her boyfriend sure started fidgeting. So, she grabbed his hand.
"It was an accident, dad. While at work last Wednesday, uh, Shane and I made out in his office. I told him we should stop because we would get caught and it was unprofessional to do that type of thing in the workplace. I reasoned with him and told him that I left lunch on the reception area counter. So, uh, Shane grabbed my hand, grabbed the food, and rushed me to my office. I tripped and broke my ankle."
"I am going to scare the mess out of him."
As soon as I stood up, Cris and Ryan started laughing as I walked over towards' Bliss.
"You did what to her ankle?!!"
"Uh, uh, it was a preventable accident if I didn't have happy hands."
Bliss started rubbing her hands up and down his arm. "He's a good guy, dad. He planned an amazing first date for us this past Saturday. And, even gave me a kitten that I named Precious."
My stare alone made him nervous. After a few minutes, I just burst out laughing. "Mr. Billionaire, you were just as nervous as Cris when I did the same thing to him when he started dating Kami."
Speaking of, Kami slowly walked into the living room.
Kam's POV
"I thought I heard voices out here. Hi, everyone." Cris grabbed my hand and sat me in his lap. The first thing I notice was Bliss's cast on her ankle. "Oh, my goodness, Bliss, what happened to your ankle?"
Bliss explained what happened and she told me what my dad did to Shane.
"Girl, he did the same thing to Cris when we started dating. The only one who was not nervous was Marco. He passed with flying colors."
"Layla, how are you momma? Ryan and Austin, how are you?"
"I am fine, Kam."
"Layla, how did your doctor's appointment go yesterday?"
"So, far we are on track for June 4th. I gained a few pounds. Like I was telling Cris, we know the sex of our baby, but then again, we don't know because we are having a gender reveal party. Cris is letting us have it here in February."
"I can't wait!! Where's my girl, Braelyn?"
"She took off to play with Dia."
"Kam, how are you, feeling?"
"My body is really tired. It seems like now they want to stay inside my belly. The past few days, they have been well-behaved."
"Momma, Bliss, and I will be here until the first day of 2019. We are family, honey."
"Layla is right, Kam. I will do as much as I can."
"That is why I love you ladies. Thank you. And, thank you, Shane, Ryan, and Austin for bringing them down to support me. It means a lot to me."
"I here Noeli and Marco just entered."
"Cris, can you call Isabela and Antonio and put them on loudspeaker? I want to say something to you all. And, I know Marissa and Andre are on the way. Noeli, can you call Marissa and put her on loudspeaker? And, daddy, can you call uncle Keoni and Koa?" Within 5 minutes, everyone was accounted for.
Princess and Braelyn came in. "Aunt Kam!" Both girls ran over and sat near us.
"I just wanted to say to you all - thank you so much for being here. I couldn't do this without each and every one of you. You all mean so much to me. I feel so much better than I felt after the photoshoot. I am still a little scared, but knowing you all are here with me, is special. Thank you all so much." I started crying because it is special to share this moment with them. Cris started rubbing my belly.
"I agree with Kamea. Thank you all so much for coming and supporting Kamea, supporting us as a family."
"Ouch! I think I just had a contraction." Suddenly, everyone stopped moving and looked at me. Please let these kids be born tomorrow. My back is starting to bother me again.
"Uh, Cris, I think you should start timing Kam's contractions."
"I'm going to lay down, you all." Marco came over and grabbed my hands to help me up. Then, he helped me to the first-floor bedroom.
Cris' POV
"Shane and Bliss, your room will be on the first floor, so Bliss doesn't have to travel up the steps. I'll show you where it is."
"Thank you, Cris. I could use a nap and need to elevate my ankle."
"Layla and Ryan, you all can have our room. We are sleeping down here in the other bedroom. Austin, there is a room right next to Braelyn's. Marco, you already know. And, when Marissa and Andre come, we will have a room for them too. We made dinner reservations for everyone at 7:00 pm."
*************
Narrator's POV
Marissa called the house saying they had arrived. Cris drove to the airport to pick them up.
Kamea started feeling contractions every three hours. Layla, Bliss, Shane, Ryan, and Austin took care of the kids - they watched movies, played in the swimming pool, and even had a tea party. Wednesday passed with no babies.
Thursday came, and it was the same routine, but no babies. Noeli explained that some babies have been born after their due date to calm Kamea's fears.
Friday came, and the contractions are now coming closer - every hour. But, still no Isabella and Kekoa.
******************
Saturday morning
Cris' POV
While everyone sat at our very large dining room table eating breakfast, I couldn't help but admire how our family has come together to support us. It is amazing. Everyone was laughing, joking, and teasing each other.
But suddenly, we heard water spill on the floor. We thought one of the kids' knocked their water over. But, it wasn't the kids.
"Uh Cris, my water just broke. It's showtime." Kamea then gripped the edge of the table. "Oh goodness, dang contractions!"
"Cris go ahead and get Kam to the hospital! We will be there shortly!"
"We are coming too, Cris. Where are Kam's keys to her Range Rover?"
"In her purse in the bedroom down the hall."
Marco ran to grab Kamea's bag, so he could start her truck.
"Here is Kam's bag and keys, mom."
"Thanks, Marco."
My parents and Kamea's dad got up and hurried out of the house.
I went over to Kamea. "Get up slowly, sweetheart." Once she stood up, I placed my hand on the small of her back and we walked out of the house.
"Ouch! Another dang contraction!"
Once we made it outside, the doors were already open. I helped her in the passenger seat. Then, ran over to the driver's side.
Right behind us were Nonna and both Nonnos. Then, we pulled off to the hospital.
**************************************
We made it to Diamond Grove in 20 minutes. I didn't bother finding a space. I parked in the front of the hospital entrance, went to grab a wheelchair, helped Kamea out of the truck and in the chair. My mother got out of their truck. "Cris, go ahead, I'll find a spot for her Rover."
I quickly grabbed the bags from the back of the truck. Then, wheeled Kamea inside the hospital.
"Ouch!" Kamea was rubbing her belly and following the breathing technique she learned in Lamaze class.
I rolled Kamea to the nursing station that was on the first floor.
"I saw you coming over. Sir, what is your wife's name?"
"Kamea Fiore."
"OH, MY GOODNESS!! THAT ONE REALLY HURT!! GET THESE KIDS OUT OF ME NOW!!"
"Mr. Fiore, your wife's doctor has been paged. Is Isabela Fiore here as well?"
My parents and Kalani came running into the hospital. "I'm here and this is my husband, Antonio. And, Kalani is Kamea's dad."
"Okay. Everyone follow me. I'll show the grandpas where the maternity waiting room is."
We took a short elevator ride to the maternity floor. "Grandpas, the waiting room is on the right, through the double doors."
"Thanks." My father and Kalani made their way to the waiting room.
"Dad, mom, and grandma, follow me." The nurse led us to the room Kamea will be staying in after she gives birth.
"Oh goodness!"
The nurse went over to a closet and grabbed some gowns and hats. "Here is one for you dad and grandma. Mrs. Fiore, whatever you feel comfortable with wearing in the delivery room, you can wear with the hospital gown covering you. The doctor will be coming in to see how far you are dilated. You would need to be 10 centimeters. I'll be right back."
My mother and I put our gowns and hats on. "Sweetheart, we will give you some priv---."
Too late because Kamea took all of her clothes off. Then, she put her gown on. "What is that look for? I do not want to be hot in there, pushing these kids out of me."
Then, she laid back on the bed. Shortly after that, the doctor came in.
"Okay Kamea, let us see if you are at 10 centimeters." While the doctor was checking that, the nurse started giving Kamea several IV'S.
"You are registering at eight and a half centimeters. Only one and a half to go and we will rush you up to the OR. Everything is looking good, Kamea. Hang in there, momma. The nurse is going to come in and give you an epidural."
"Sweetheart, keep taking your deep breaths. You are doing a great job."
"OUCH!!"
"Breathe, sweetie. Not much longer." The nurse came in and gave Kamea an epidural.
Thirty minutes later, the doctor entered Kamea's room. "Let's see what you are at now, mommy."
After measuring, the doctor now said, "You are at nine and a half centimeters. We are going to wheel you up to the OR. I'll be right back." A few minutes passed, and the doctor came back with two nurses.
"Let's get you upstairs, Kamea. Once at 10 centimeters, we can proceed." My mother and I both held Kamea's hands as she was wheeled out of her suite. "Can someone update my father and Kamea's father on what is happening? Their names are Kalani Palu and Antonio Fiore."
"Nurse, can you update Mr. Fiore and Mr. Palu that we are taking Kamea up to the OR? They are in the maternity waiting room."
"Yes, ma'am." The nurse then rushed over to the maternity waiting room. We reached the elevator and went up one floor.
Once we reached the OR, the doctor prepped herself for the labor. My mother and I placed masks over our mouths. After prepping, the doctor checked Kamea again. "Okay mommy, you are fully dilated, and we are ready. Kamea, position your legs to get ready to push."
She did just as the doctor said. "On the count of three, Kamea, push."
"One."
"Two."
"Three."
Kamea took a deep breath and pushed. "OH, MY FREAKING GOODNESS!!"
"Take another deep breath for me, mommy. Then, push."
Kamea took a deep breath and pushed. "OUCH!!"
"Kamea, you are doing a good job, honey. I can actually see the crown of one of the twins."
"Take another deep breath for me, mommy. Then, push."
Kamea kept taking deep breaths and pushing. She did this for about two and a half hours until,
"Congratulations family, your son has arrived." He screamed really loud to let everyone know that he arrived. I cut Kekoa's umbilical cord. Then, he was whisked away to make sure everything was okay.
"Kamea honey, you did great. You got this. Momma and Cris are here for you. Squeeze our hands if you need to okay, sweetheart?"
The nurse wiped her head because she was really sweating and breathing a little heavily. "O-okay, mom."
"Okay, momma, now let's get your daughter out of there. Take a deep breath and push for me, mommy."
Kamea took a deep breath and pushed. "OH, MY FREAKING GOODNESS!! GET THIS CHILD OUT OF ME!!"
After about a few hours of pushing, this baby girl of mine was being stubborn.
"ISABELLA JAYDE FIORE, GET OUT HERE NOW!!!!"
Kamea kept taking deep breaths and pushing for about 4 hours. But, no Isabella. She started crying, "Why is this little girl being stubborn? I am tired, Cris."
"Hang in there, sweetheart."
She looked at me like I was crazy. "Easy for you to say!! You aren't the one pushing!!! LITTLE GIRL GET YOUR BUTT OUT OF THERE NOW!!!"
"We need to get her out and soon. Mommy, your blood pressure is getting low. Take a deep breath and push!"
She squeezed our hands and after one big push, the sweet sound of our baby girl crying.
"Congratulations family, your daughter has arrived." I also cut Isabella's umbilical cord. She was then whisked away to make sure she was okay.
Suddenly, the monitor was beeping. Kamea's blood pressure was really low, causing her to pass out.
"Sweetheart, wake up!!" Oh no, this can't happen again! I can't lose her too!!
"Mr. Fiore, please follow the nurse. I am not going to let anything happen to Kamea." Once my mom and I exited the OR, I sat on the floor and cried.
"Cris, son, Kamea is going to be okay. Think positive." My mother sat on the floor with me and hugged me. "Kamea is a fighter. She will pull through, okay? Let's get off this cold floor and go to the maternity waiting room."
It felt like the longest walk ever, going to the elevator to go to the maternity waiting room. Once we walked in, everybody arrived and saw that I had tears in my eyes.
Layla came over to where I was standing. "Cris, is everything okay?"
"Kekoa was born first. But, Isabella was stubborn and didn't want to come out. She finally made her appearance not too long ago. But...Kamea passed out because of a really low blood pressure reading. The doctor is working on her now."
"Oh, Cris, I am so sorry. Kam is going to be okay."
I felt a pair of hands tap my leg. "Daddy, is mommy okay?"
I picked up my princess and just gave her one, extra, long hug. I couldn't say one word.
One hour had gone by with no news. It was getting pretty late, but everyone stayed with me in the room. The doctor entered.
"Mr. Fiore, your wife..."
