Cris' POV

I did not say one word. I just pounced on the nurse and grabbed him by his shirt!! "Are you freaking crazy?!!!!"

This man was trying to kill Kamea by placing a pillow over her face to suffocate her. We traded blows. He wanted to strangle me, but I was able to fight it off. One thing that was puzzling was that this nurse had a sinister grin on his face.

"Who is this, and why is he trying to kill her? And why hasn't anybody heard the commotion going on in here?"

Suddenly, the machines Kamea was hooked up to started going off. "I ought to kill you right here, but my children are present."

He took another swing at me, and I lost my balance.

"Daddy!" Día screamed. Día and Rocco started crying.

The nurse opened the door and tried to run away. "Stop that, nurse!! He tried to kill my girlfriend!!" Doctors and nurses rushed into the room.

"Sir! Sir! What happened?! " One nurse asked while the rest were tending to Kamea.

"I walked into the room with my kids and saw that nurse with a pillow in his hand trying to kill her."

"Sir, you need medical attention. Follow me. Doctor Weekly will take care of Kamea. She is safe."

"Día and Rocco, come on." This hospital is in serious trouble. We walked over to the first aid station. "I want answers, and I want them now!!!"

I will have someone's head if she dies. I am going to have their head anyway. That intruder punched me in the eye, busted my lip, and I had sore ribs. Another nurse gave me some aspirin to take, and I went to get something to put on my eye.

I took this time to call my parents and tell them what had happened. After I got off the phone, I saw Kamea's family entering the waiting room. When they saw me, they ran over to see what had happened. The twins ran over to Kamea's sister, whom they have come to love to pieces, and squeezed her tight.

"What happened, Cris?" Kamea's mom, Jayde, asked, concerned.

I broke down and cried again. "When the kids and I went into Kamea's room, I saw a nurse trying to suffocate her with a pillow. I told the kids to hide and fought with the nurse. He ran out of the room. I could not get to him in time. I'm so sorry."

Kamea'a dad was seething and hot like lava flowing from a volcano.

"By the time we get through suing them, there won't be a Parkview General Hospital left!" Kamea's father ran straight to her room.

"You really do love Kami, don't you?"

"Yes, I really do. She means the world to me."

"My husband and I weren't sure at first. But now we see it. You have our blessing. Please take loving care of her, Cris. Don't do anything to break our trust. My husband and I are very protective of our girls. And you can call me Jayde or Mama Jayde."

"Thank you, and I won't disappoint you." Jayde then made her way toward Kamea's room.

"Do you mind if I take the twins to get some ice cream in the cafeteria?" Noelani asked.

"Can we go, daddy?" Rocco and Día pleaded.

"Of course. And, promise me you will behave."

"We promise, daddy." Then, they walked towards the elevator for the cafeteria.

"It's amazing how those two are so comfortable around Kamea's family. I love it." 

I couldn't help but smile at my kids.

I saw my mom and dad coming from another elevator just as the nurse finished cleaning me up.

"Cris, is she going to be okay? Please tell me she is going to be okay," my mom said as she cried.

"Come on. I'll take you to meet her parents." We then walked to the waiting room and waited for her parents. I saw the President of the hospital coming our way too.

"Excuse me, but I am looking for Kamea's parents. My name is Mr. Jenkins," he said.

Through gritted teeth, I politely replied, "They are currently in her room. I'm her boyfriend." Shortly after that sentence, they came into the waiting room.

"Mr. and Mrs. Palu, this is the President of the hospital, Mr. Jenkins." If looks could kill, her parents were ready to.

"Mr. and Mrs. Palu, I sincerely apologize for what happened. As the President of Parkview General Hospital, it is my duty to ensure that the staff is protected. We failed Kamea, and I am very sorry. We are looking into how easily that intruder could impersonate a nurse and get into Kamea's room. Security here at the hospital is first-rate, but what happened is concerning. We will conduct a thorough investigation as to why this occurred. We will also be moving Kamea to a private wing where only those you allow are allowed. And the intruder has been captured and is being taken to the police station for questioning. We will have security to guard the private wing."

"Not your security, we won't! I will have some from my security detail guard her. We will not be having any more incidents like this. Absolutely not!!!"

"Thank you, and that is fine and all, but I am livid! We will be hiring an attorney. For your sake, you better hope she doesn't die!" Mama Jayde said. "Losing a child hurts so much! And I know that because we lost our only son! I can't lose one of my girls too!!!!"

My mom came over to introduce herself and hugged Mama Jayde. "Mrs. Palu, I am Cris' mom, Isabela. My husband, Antonio, and I will do all we can to be of support. Whatever you need, just let us know." 

My dad interjected, "We will get the best attorney in the country to represent Kamea."

"Thank you both. And it is nice to meet you too. This is my husband, Kalani." 

The kids came back from getting their ice cream. "Nonna and Nonno!"

(Nonna and Nonno are Italian for grandma and grandpa.)

They ran over to my dad and hugged him. "Nonno, Ms. Noel took us to get ice cream."

"I see. You both still have some on your face." They started giggling when my dad wiped their faces.

"That intruder is going to pay. I need to make sure he never does this again." 

I called my bodyguards and told them to get that intruder and take him somewhere no one knew. He is going to learn a valuable lesson - never mess with the ones I love.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we just received a breaking news story. At Parkview General Hospital earlier today, an intruder posed as a nurse and went into a patient's room to suffocate them with a pillow to kill them. We will not release the patient's name for privacy requirements. The intruder was apprehended and taken to the police station for questioning. The patient has been stabilized. We all here at the news station would like to wish the patient a speedy recovery."

Candi's POV

"Stupid idiot. Cannot do anything right. And knowing Cris, he will be severely punished for trying to kill her. And Cris is going to have security watching over her. I'll have to think of something else."

*At the police station. *

Police Chief's POV

"Alright, start talking. Why were you in that young lady's room?"

"What do you think I was in there for? To have some tea and talk?"

"You think this is a joke?! You are sitting here joking and are facing many charges - attempted murder, impersonating a hospital employee, etc. And you are wanted for quite a few crimes. So, as I said, start talking!! Why were you there?" This guy was really getting on my nerves, and he knew it.

"I am not saying anything. I want a lawyer."

"Get this fool a court-appointed lawyer and get him out my face!"

"Yes, chief." The officer led this idiot out of the room and into a cell. About 30 minutes later, we received a call that an attorney was assigned to him and would be in shortly.

When the lawyer came in the station, I noticed they sent one of the sleaziest lawyers in town. His clients always seemed to be found not guilty of obvious charges. This guy was trying to kill that young lady, but somehow this dirtbag lawyer was going to get him off.

"Mr. Timothy Miles, here to represent the criminal in question regarding the incident at Parkview General Hospital."

"We know who you are. Wait right here."

I told one of the officers to put the criminal in one of the interrogation rooms. As I went back to my desk, another officer came up to me and said, "Sir, we just received an anonymous amount of money to have that guy released."

"Say what?! Who in their right mind wants this guy released? Prepare him to be released and get that piece of garbage out of my station."

"Right away, sir."

I went back to my desk and informed the lawyer about his client.

"Someone anonymously paid bail for your client, and he is free to go. Now, get him out of here before I lose my mind."

Cris' POV

I had my men bail the idiot out, so he could be properly cared for. He is going to get the same treatment that Reed is going to get when he is found. So, they told me they saw the guy walking out of the police station, approached him, and mentioned that a donor paid for his bail. This guy was not bright because he just hopped in the car without asking any questions. He is going to make this easy.

They called me and told me where they were going, so I told everyone, "I'm going home for about an hour to shower and change my clothes. I will be right back. Día and Rocco, promise me you will be good."

 "We promise, daddy." I did not tell them where I was going. So, I made my way to where the fool was held - an abandoned warehouse.

*20 minutes later.*

"He is tied up just like you requested."

"Good." When we walked into the room, he was swinging himself, trying to get down.

"There is no sense in trying to get from that hook. I want answers, and I want them now as to why you were in my girlfriend's hospital room. And just so you know, these guys used to be professional hitmen. Your death warrant has been signed. So, start talking now!!!"

"If I am going to die, why should I tell you anything?"

"Well, for starters, you will have a slow and painful death. It will be easier for you just to give me what I asked for. Now, I'm going to ask you again - why were you in my girlfriend's hospital room trying to kill her?"

He took his slow time answering, and it angered me.

"I'm not going to say one word."

I signaled to my bodyguard to start punching. The guy screamed in pain.

"Are you going to start talking, or should I have my man here continue punishment?" I asked him again.

"Man, you are crazy!!"

So, once again, I signaled to start punching. He screamed again.

"How many times do I have to say this - why were you trying to kill my girlfriend?!!" 

"Somebody wanted your girlfriend dead. They paid me a hefty amount of money to suffocate her."

"Too bad you won't live to see any of that money." So, once again, I signaled to start punching just because I wanted him to, and I was losing my patience.

"If you had told me that in the first place, you may not have been in this predicament. Now, give me the name of who wants my girlfriend to die."

"They made me promise not to give their name. And, if I did, they would hurt my family."

"Well, did you even think about your family when you took the job in the first place? Did you stop thinking about how I would feel if you successfully killed my girlfriend? This is your final warning - who ordered you to kill my girlfriend?!" This time he was crying.

"Look, I don't know who it really was." I was not getting anywhere with this man, so I told my guys to finish him off. Just as they were about to finish him off, he trailed off, saying, "Their name was Ca............"

Dang. I should have exercised more patience because he was about to say who did it. "Do whatever you need to get rid of him. I need to get home, shower, and change my clothes so I can get back to the hospital."

"Yes, boss."

After that, I made my way home to take a shower.

"If only I waited a few more minutes, he was about to say who paid him money to kill Kamea."

As I reached my house, I called my mom at the hospital and, um, told her that traffic was backed up and I had just made it home.

I never lied to my parents before, but this time I did. I did not want them to know about what happened. She told me that they had moved Kamea to the private wing, and some of my security detail had arrived. After my shower, I changed my clothes and left for the hospital.

*One week later. *

Cris's POV

I was still puzzled by the events from a week ago. "Who wanted Kamea dead so bad?" And sadly, she was still in a coma. Día and Rocco became closer to Kamea's parents. And that sniveling idiot Reed is still nowhere to be found.

So, one day, I took the twins to her room so that they could talk to her.

"Rocco, you go first. Say hi to Ms. Kam."

"Hi, Ms. Kam. We miss you. And, Día misses you too."

Then, Día said a few words too. "Ms. Kam, we drew pictures for you, and daddy drew one too. And we got teddy bears too."

After the twins finished speaking, I approached her bed, held her hand in mine, and took my turn. "I cannot wait until you open your beautiful brown eyes. Please wake up, sweetheart. Everyone misses you. I miss you. I just want you to squeeze my hand to let me know you are okay."

"Daddy, daddy, look!!" Día said with excitement in her voice. I felt my hand squeezed, so I looked up and saw her beautiful brown eyes open.

"Welcome back, beautiful."
