"James! What happened?!" It echoed from the hallway. Then Cassie cried out in pain. I jumped up to look what was going on. "Tell us where Sascha Travers is!" "What the hell do you want with my niece?"

Just then I entered the scene. Both my caretakers were pressed on the floor by strange looking people. One of them looked at me. She immediately ordered the others to come and get me. More people rushed into our home. Someone knocked me to the floor. And handcuffed my arms behind my back. "Hey! What are you doing?" These people weren't police officers, but they were equipped like them. "Let her go! What do you want with her", Aunt Cassie yelled at the one lifting me up?

The woman in charge rolled her eyes. "You wouldn't understand." I thrashed around in hopes of being let go. To my disappointment, this wasn't the case. The grip on my collar only tightened. "Stop struggling. It won't get you anywhere." The voice sent a shiver down my spine. These people were dangerous. Why do they want me? "Oh yeah? And what are you going to do if I don't?"

She took out a gun and cocked it. Then she pointed it at James. My heart stopped for a moment and I stopped moving. I stared at her with wide eyes. "Please! Don't!" As a sign of defeat, I lowered my head. "I'll come with you. Just don't hurt them", I begged.

"Good girl." Without seeing her face, I knew she grinned. I heard it in her voice.

While I admitted defeat, Aunt Cassie didn't. "Let her go! Take me instead!" She pleaded with this woman. Afraid of the shot being fired, I didn't dare to say a thing. Even though I wanted to yell at Cassie for offering such a thing. I bit my lip. "I'm sorry, but we don't have any use for you. We want her." Out of the corner of my eyes I noticed the look of horror on Cassie's face. It broke my heart. She didn't want me to get kidnapped. Neither did I but if I made the wrong move, it'd result in their deaths.

Nonetheless, Cassie continued to struggle and fight back. The other woman wasn't impressed and ordered the one carrying me to get me to the van. This threw Cassie over the edge. Tears ran down her face as she begged and pleaded for them to let me go. But her words were ignored. The neighbors should get alerted by this. Why didn't they do anything? Were they in on this group? What the hell did those guys even need me for?

Shots rang in my ears. My pulse picked up a couple notches and yet it felt like my heart stopped. I tried to look back, but my position didn't allow me to. Fear crept in my soul. Now I fought back again. "LEMME GO YOU ASSHOLE!" I kicked my legs, trying to hit the man's knees or stomach. Instead I landed a hit where it hurt the most. He let go of me and I ran to the door of my home. What I saw there was something that would haunt me in my nightmares.

On the floor laid Cassie and James. Blood pooled beneath them, stemming from a shot to their heads. My vision blurred as tears streamed down my face. No, this couldn't be. Not again. Not the only ones I had left.

Suddenly everything was up in smoke. I couldn't see anything but felt how I was being dragged away. My legs immediately picked up the pace, as if I knew at which speed, they should run. The smoke lifted and I saw a man in front of me. He had a tight grip on my wrist. Then he glanced over his shoulder. Did he look at me or the ones after us?

"Don't worry, I'll get you to safety." Oh, he meant me. I wanted to ask him what he meant but I wasn't able to think straight.

A loud noise resonated in my ears and I turned my head to see a huge ball of smoke. I felt a wave of heat. Sudden force pushed me forward. It clicked in my head. This had been an explosion. I wanted to yell at him. He had to stop. To my surprise he did but not because I told him to. We stood in front of a car. The man opened the door and pushed me inside. He slammed the door shut behind me. Then he ran over and jumped into the car.

Without warning he stomped on the pedal and sped off. I suddenly felt like in one of those car movies where they did so too. Neither of us was strapped in. He didn't seem to care.

"What are you doing? Where are we going?" It looks like my voice finally worked again. There was no answer. My first instinct was to continue screaming so someone would hear me. But just before I opened my mouth he replied: "Like I said. I'll get you to safety." "And I'm supposed to believe that?" I tried to open the door. I paid no mind that I'd probably die if I fell out of the car. All I wanted was to get out of here. "Calm down." This time I avoided to answer. Instead I focused on getting out of the car. My vision blurred once again.

Seeing the door wouldn't open, I let myself fall back on the seat. Since I didn't want to break down in front of a stranger, I held my emotions back. Nonetheless, some tears trailed down my face

The drive went by without either of us speaking a word. I watched him. He concentrated on the street. Despite what I thought, he paid attention and didn't just swerve lanes. Though, my thoughts were still a mess, so they weren't the best measure. It seemed like he knew the destination. The man took a turn and I read the sign. We now were in Whitefish.

He followed the road before he turned and drove down an old path. It led directly into the forest. Or at least I assumed it to be because it was dark. Then I noticed a building right in the middle of a clearing. Lights were on which meant there was at least one person inside. Barbed wire surrounded it.

Finally, he turned off the car. He looked at me. "Are you alright?" "Yeah of course I'm totally fine. Like one is after being kidnapped." I couldn't help it. Sarcasm was my way of dealing with situations like this. At least I thought so. Not that I had ever been in a similar situation. The man noticed it. "I know, it was a stupid question", he said, "But I'll explain it to you shortly. Now let's get into the base." This man thought I'd follow him. What the hell? Was he stupid or something? Of course, I'd stay in here.

He sighed. "Just trust me. I don't mean any harm to you." "You think I believe you?"

"Would you rather have been kidnapped by those bastards? Do you know what they'd do if they got you in their hands?" For some reason I shuddered at his words. Those people were bad, I knew it. But still, I had my worries about this man's motives. "How am I supposed to trust you?" My voice wavered as I had trouble with holding my emotions back. A few moments of silence passed. He sat back into the car. "I don't know, to be honest. After what happened today, I'm sure I wouldn't have trusted anyone either. But believe me, I just want your safety." I stared into his green eyes, scanning for any evidence that this was all a charade. His voice sounded sincere.

I took a deep breath. "Okay. But I want some answers." "Don't worry, you'll get them."

Again, he exited the car before opening my door. I followed him into the building. There was a long hallway, at the end of which was a staircase. The walls were white and blank. The only furniture in it was a wooden closet, probably out of ebony. My gaze wandered as we walked down the hallway. It was so clean and sterile, I felt uncomfortable.

We entered a room. There was a desk in one corner on which stood a laptop. There were some folders on it too. In another corner was a couch with chairs and a small table. The man gestured me to sit down. I bit my lip and did as I was told. He sat down on the chair across from me. At first, I scanned over the man. Now I got a got glimpse at him.

He had light brown hair. I didn't really know how old he was, but I had the feeling he was older than me. His face looked like the one you'd picture when someone said the words "manly face". He wore a navy-blue jacket over a black shirt, skinny jeans and a pair of sneakers.

"I should introduce myself first. My name is Michael. I'm the second in command of this group." I cocked my head. "Of which group", I asked. The answer came quickly. "Of the group that inhabits this base. It's one of ten other legions." Confusion entered my head. "What are those legions for?"

A moment of silence passed. Michael seemed to think about how he should answer this question. "You know those urban legends about supernatural beings, right?" I nodded. "This gang and all the other ones are responsible for keeping them in check."

My world came to a screeching halt. I was sure my eyes would pop out at any second. "Wait. What? Are you serious?" The thoughts in my head were all wiped away and shuffled like a deck of cards. Those beings are real? No, this couldn't be. But the look on his face showed me, he wasn't joking. "I know, it's hard to think about that. I reacted the same way." I blinked a couple of times. Slowly, my head began processing this information. Supernatural beings existed. Did that mean, he existed as well? Oh god, the dots connecting in my brain.
