2: Young Love
It was a normal Saturday morning in MIT.
The two roommates - Tony and Rhodey - were in their dorm room, doing their own separate things. The 19 year old was barely listening to the now 15 year old, a thin smile of amusement on his face.
Could you believe that day had been roommates in MIT for two years straight? Rhodey sure couldn't.
Rhodey was on the couch, reading a book for robotic engineering, while Tony was pacing around in the room, rambling on about who knows what. Rhodey had heard some phrases though, like, "Idiots," and "They deserve to die."
Not looking up from his book, Rhodey sighed, and it took all of his willpower to not facepalm or yell. This was going to be his entire year.
"Fine." Tony huffed and crossed his arms. "Fine...what?" Rhodey questioned, still not looking up.
Tony stayed still for a moment. Then, he dove onto the couch, or rather, on Rhodey, stretching out on it, head buried in Rhodey's his stomach. "Rhodeeey," he groaned into Rhodey's stomach, causing the older to flinch and stifle a laugh. "Shut up," Rhodey muttered, shoving the fifteen year old's head away from his stomach
Tony pouted and poked Rhodey in the stomach, causing him to flinch again. "Platypus," Tony tried, poking his friend in the arm. "Sourpatch." He did the same. "Honeybear!" Tony exclaimed.
"Shh, Tones, I'm trying to study!" Rhodey exclaimed, glaring at the younger teen. "Nerd," Tony scoffed.
"Can you just fricking shut up, Tony?" Rhodey yelled, causing Tony to very visibly flinch. Oh crap, Rhodey thought as he saw Tony get off the couch and walk away.
Dropping his book, Rhodey, turned to Tony's slumped body on his own bed, staring out of the window. "Hey, Tony, come on, man. I didn't mean to yell."
Rhodey sat next to Tony and softly, but forcibly turned his head so they could face each other. Only then he saw tears welling in Tony's eyes. "I'm sorry." Tony spoke Rhodey's words. "No, I'm sorry," Rhodey corrected. "I shouldn't have snapped and acted like your father."
Tony cracked a small smile. "I shouldn't have pissed you off."
Rhodey stroked Tony's small jaw with his thumb, causing the teen to smirk. Two pairs of brown eyes met and they pressed their foreheads against each other's.
Before Rhodey could even seen it, he felt Tony's grasping fingers begin to unbutton his shirt. Rhodey's eyes widened and he hid his expression by dipping his head and gently clutched Tony's hands.
"Come on, honeybear," Tony said. "You scared you're gonna break any laws?"
His hands wriggled out of Rhodey's grip, and was about to push Rhodey against a wall when he jerked away and crossed his arms to hide their shaking. Rhodey met the teen's eyes. "T-Tony," he stammered. "Can we just-can we please not do this?"
"What do you mean?" Tony's tone was defensive and angry. "You hate me or something?" Rhodey shook his head. "Tony, of course not. It's not that I hate you, I like you so much. It's just...you're underage, and it makes me uneasy and I can't."
Tony shot him a miserable look before turning to stare back out of the window.
oOo
The two hadn't spoken since yesterday. They couldn't even look at each other.
Rhodey was reading a different book on robotic engineering, since the other one seemed to be written by a drunk author who happened to get it published.
He would've been fine, apart from Tony intensely staring at him.
But it made him think. Tony liked him. As in, romantically. As in, not just like a friend, but...more than that. And 19 year old Rhodey was not ready to date 14 year old Tony.
What startled Rhodey, was when the younger male suddenly choked, causing Rhodey to drop his book. He jumped off of his bed and bent over to get it. He looked out of the corner of his eye, and saw Tony still staring at him. "Can you please get your eyes off my ass?" Rhodey demanded.
"Fine," Tony grumbled.
So, for the second time since yesterday, it dawned on Rhodey that Tony had a crush on him. Tony who barely showed his emotions or any sign or physical affection liked him.
Rhodey looked up and saw Tony staring at him, yet again. "I'm sorry," he mumbled. "I shouldn't have lost it with you. But, you know me." Rhodey nodded. "Yeah, I do."
Tony continued speaking. "I...I've been feeling this way for a while and...they're not going away, they're getting stronger and this time...this time I can't ignored them. I'm sorry if I frightened you."
"It's alright, Tones," Rhodey said. "It...it really is." He offered a smile, one which Tony returned and sat next to his friend.
Tony rested his head on Rhodey's shoulder and Rhodey smiled as the two leaned against the wall, arms wrapped around each other.
