1: Did You Miss Me?

Despite the media dubbed 'playboy', Tony never really had any woman over at the tower.

And that confused the heck out of the Avengers. Some (like Clint and Thor) thought he had given up trying to date since he knew he would never be happy. Others, (like Bruce, Natasha and Steve) thought he was just hiding who he was dating because he was scared how they would act.

After months of trying to find out who he was dating (which involved lots of tracking and time with the computers) they gave up, realizing it was all for nothing.

They're suspicions however were all proved wrong one foggy November morning.

It was the rare occurrence that Tony was actually out of his lab, and Clint made a big deal pointing that one fact out.

Tony rolled his eyes. "You're such a child, Clint," he muttered, smirking. "And you're not?" Clint quipped back, crossing his arms before falling off his chair.

"See." Tony gestured to Clint on the floor. "Proves my point." Scampering up, Clint gasped in mock hurt.  "But now," Tony leaned over the table to reach for the coffee pot. "I need my coffee."

As he did that, something slipped out of his shirt, and the rest of the Avengers saw a necklace with a ring hanging off it - a wedding ring, to be exact.

"You're married?" Natasha questioned. Tony dragged the coffee pot over to him and poured himself a cup. "Yeah," Tony said casually, as if one might say 'I went to the beach.'

Steve gaped. "Why didn't you tell us?" he asked. Tony arched his eyebrows. "Was it any of your business?" Steve spluttered for a moment before closing his mouth.

"But...it isn't in any of your SHIELD files," Natasha said. "Duh," Tony muttered, draining his cup, not bothering to tuck his necklace back in his shirt.

Clint looked hopeful. "Will you tell us who she is?"

Tony chuckled, but no one knew why. "I'll let you figure out who she is yourself."

He stood up and walked out of the room, leaving the Avengers more puzzled than ever.

oOo

It had been a month since the reveal that Tony was married, and the Avengers had no idea who she was.

No woman had been over at the tower, but the Avengers had noticed a slight change in Tony's behavior. His usually bright, chocolate eyes were now a dull brown, and he looked as if he had no sleep for weeks (which was quite possible). He was always stressed and nervous, but wouldn't tell anyone what was wrong.

One day, Natasha found him in the kitchen, calling something. "-so, you don't know?" Tony asked the person on the call.

Natasha frowned but didn't speak. She was aware of the person he was calling saying something back and Tony's face fell. "Tell me if you get an update, please. Thanks."

Natasha had never heard Tony sound so vulnerable before - so broken.

"You alright, Tony?" she asked. Tony. Natasha had never called him that before, and she felt bad because of it. Tony forced one of those absolutely fake, but realistic smiles on his face. "Always."

He walked off, presumably back to his lab, leaving Natasha with more questions than answers.

oOo

"Okay," Natasha said, facing Clint, Steve, Bruce and Thor. "We have to do something about Tony. He's miserable. But, I have an idea. We need to get his wife over to see him."

Bruce nodded. "Yeah, I agree. But how will we find who she is."

Clint frowned. "The marriage records may not be on his SHIELD files, but they have to be somewhere. And we can do that easily."

Natasha nodded, a hint of a smile on her face. "Clint and I will do that, you guys try and get Tony to spill. Maybe when he's drunk or sleep-deprived." Everyone nodded, and Natasha felt a small smile creep onto her face.

Bruce visited Tony in the lab later that day. "Hey, Tony," he greeted. "You alright?"

The genius arched his eyebrows and stood up. "Sure." Bruce walked over to Tony and looked to his wine storage. Or, where his wine storage should be.

"Where's the alcohol?" Bruce asked. Tony looked confused. "I haven't had it for ages. Why?"

"There's none up there and everyone's complaining," Bruce said quickly. Now Tony looked really confused. "I could've sworn I ordered some last night for them," he muttered. "Want me to order more?"

"Will you join us for once?" Bruce asked. But Tony wasn't listening. "J, order them so alcohol. Thanks bud."

Bruce forced a smile. "Thanks, Tony."

He walked upstairs and saw everyone crowded over the laptop. "Found his records!" Steve announced. "Shush," Natasha chided.

"Says he is married to...Colonel James Rhodes."

"He's...gay?" Clint asked. Everyone glared at him. "That came out wrong!" Clint exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air. "I was just surprised."

"Where is Colonel James Rhodes, then?" Steve asked. Natasha frowned. "My guess is that - well, he works in the air force - he's probably on a mission."

"Oh," everyone muttered. "Should we tell Tony we know, then?" Steve asked. "No," Natasha said. "We'll wait to Rhodes comes."

oOo

The elevator door opened when all the Avengers (yes, including Tony) were watching a movie.

Tony's head snapped up and he saw Rhodey holding some bags, looking shaken up. "Oh, Tones," he muttered, walking towards his husband. "Hey, honeybear," Tony greeted, standing up and burying his head in Rhodey's chest.

"Miss me?" Rhodey asked, hugging Tony protectively. "You have no idea," Tony muttered as Rhodey kissed him on the forehead.

"So you're the mystery wife?" Clint asked, trying to play it cool and not show them that he knew. Natasha gave him an odd look.

Rhodey frowned down at Tony, eyebrows raised in confusion. "I never said wife," Tony corrected. "You guys just assumed."

Clint smirked. "Wanna join us, Rhodes?" Bruce offered.

"Rhodey," Tony and his husband both corrected instantaneously. Natasha smiled. "You two are adorable. Wanna join us?"

"Actually, no," Tony said. "Platypus and I have some stuff to do in the bedroom."

The two left and Steve gagged. "I can't believe their gonna fondue!"

Hope you all enjoyed that first oneshot!
