Chapter 214: Needing one another {30 day challenge} REVAMPED

When the snap occurred the world fell into disarray. Some people tried to move on, and others after losing their families and friends who couldn't cope with the losses went down a dark path of wrongdoing. But the people that didn't, the ones that vowed to do whatever it took for this earth if anyone or anything tried to threaten it.

To speak for those who are speechless, to empower those who feel powerless, to protect those who can't protect themselves. Know who they are and what they're willing to sacrifice. A wise man has said, "If we can't protect the Earth, you can be sure we'll avenge it." Those heroes are suiting up and are traveling through time when all thought it was impossible.

It took some aliens to attack New York, an artificial intelligence destroying an entire country, and a purple titan wanting to create mass genocide to convince them otherwise. Every hero that is trying to fix the destruction he caused, split into groups. Natasha and Clint left with Steve, Bruce, & Scott. While Peter & Tony went to Vormir.

The father and son walked towards the steep overbearing mountain, it felt as if it was falling forward which didn't settle his nerves. His father gripped his shoulder. "Ready to climb?" He asked.

Peter looked at Tony as if he'd gone mad, "W.. Wait, we have to climb?"

"Yeah kiddo, we gotta climb, how else are we gonna get up there?" Peter nodded as both him and Tony climbed, as they were halfway up, Peter stopped looking at the sky.

"Pete, you okay?" Tony inquired.

Peter looked up at his dad who had the expression of worry weaved across his face. "I'm okay dad just... looking at the sky." Peter replied. Tony smiled, his son at twenty one, was still the same as he was when he was a kid except wiser. He's a great son, brother, hero. But in the back of Tony's mind, he wondered if Peter was really ready to do whatever it took to save the world.

They rested for a minute before continuing on with their journey. They got up to the very top seeing nothing but an endless void of nothingness. Were they really sent to this planet to find nothing? They looked back at each other in confusion. What was going on? Where are the tripwires? They had no idea what to do as they stood next to each other making sure they were close. "Anthony Howard Stark."

Tony turned, his blasters sounding out, while Peter got into a stance "And Peter Benjamin Stark." Peter's Spidey sense alerted him of something or someone, when a shadowy figure came out. Though Peter noted he didn't look human, his face was the complete opposite; it was red. "Who are you?" Peter asked.

"I am the key to what you seek." The figure replied back.

"Look Darth Maul, I don't think you'll want to get your head blown off. So I suggest you give us the stone and we'll be on our merry way." Tony threatened.

"I can't simply give you the stone, there's a cost." He said.

"We'll do whatever it takes." Peter said.

The figure came forward, making Peter and Tony go stiff. "You can lower your weapons, they're no use to waste on me. Besides, I'm not exactly alive."

"Besides being the keeper of what we seek and other bull crap, who are you?" Tony asked.

"They call me the Red Skull." The figure now known to them as Red Skull replied.

Peter gave a questionable look. 'Is this what we're dealing with?' He thought. "Where's the soul stone?" Peter asked.

Red Skull led them to the cliff, "It's not so much where it is, but how you're going to get it."

Tony started to become impatient, "Stop it with the riddles and tell us where and how to get it."

Peter put his arm in front of Tony, "Dad, it's okay."

"There are lives on the line son. If we don't get answers, those lives will be gone forever. Either we do something now or face the consequences later." Tony explained.

"I know there are lives on the line, dad. You can't just punch your way through this, especially since Red Skull here said you can't hurt him." Peter said.

Peter turned to Red Skull and walked up to him. "Listen Mr. Red Skull we need to get the stone, how do we do that?" He asked.

Red Skull nodded and proceeded, "The prophecy says if one seeks the stone it must require a sacrifice, a soul... for a soul."

It took a few moments for it to click but Peter figured it out and went back to his dad with a look of sadness. Peter honestly didn't know what to say. He was tongue tied, "D.. Dad, one of us has to... we have to. One of us has to jump off the cliff in order to retrieve the stone." Tony pulled his son close in a hug.

"It's alright, we can find another way." He said.

"That's the thing dad, there is no other way." Peter replied.

Whatever it takes. Tony knew what Peter was thinking and didn't like it not one bit. "Dad, I think you and I mean different people here."

"Do you think I wanna do this? We've been trying to get to this moment right here and bring everyone back."

"Dad, you need to be with Mom and Morgan. We have to do what needs to be done."

"No, I'm not gonna let you do this. You have your whole life ahead of you college, marrying MJ, becoming a father, that's among millions of things you have to experience."

"I've already lived my life more than you could imagine. I've never been more proud of the man you've become, and I love you with all my heart. But I need you to sit out on this one, please." Tony continued.

"N.. No, I can't lose you too, Dad. Pleass." Peter sobbed.

"Everything will be okay, I promise." He didn't know what else to think but he said he'd fix this. He wouldn't stop until he had his wife and daughter back.

Tony wiped away Peter's tears, but looked at him, knowing this was the last time he'd ever see him. Tony backed away from Peter getting out of his suit, "I'm sorry Pete." Then used his blaster and blasted his son back, Peter coughed, groaning in pain, and saw his dad running towards the cliff. He webbed the backs of Tony's armor where his arms and hands were, using his iron spider leg attachments and pulled backwards.

"I'm... not... letting... you... do... this." Peter strained. Tony pulled and turned making sure to knock his son in the head, hopefully knocking him out. But that's not what happened. Tony was about to jump and as he did Peter jumped with him webbing then both to the side of the cliff. "Dang it kid, I told you to stand down. When did you become so stubborn?" Tony questioned.

Peter had stray tears that were blurring his vision, "One, I'm... not a soldier, and two who do you think I take after?"

"Pete, web yourself up the cliff and let me do this."

"No! I've almost lost you more times than I can count.." Peter replied.

Tony put a mini blaster on Peter without his knowledge so he pressed a button that sent Peter up the cliff just enough to stay away from Tony. "Dad, please don't. Please don't go."

"I'm sorry kiddo, I'm doing this for you and everyone else."

"I love you dad." Peter said.

"I love you too." Peter watched as his dad proceeded to descend further down the cliff, until his blood pooled. There was a sudden crash in the sky like lightning. Peter got up in a strange water-like abyss and looked around but there was no sign of Tony's body or Red Skull.

He felt something in the palm of his hand, he was holding the soul stone. Soon, he was brought back to the present, with the team he dropped to his knees stuck in a loop of anguish. "Peter, where's Tony?" Steve asked. But Peter didn't answer. Natasha stalked closely and got to Peter's level since he was on the floor.

She put a hand on his shoulder, "Маленький паук where's your dad?"

"H.. He's gone." Peter replied, his tone weak.

"What do you mean he's gone?" Clint asked.

"He sacrificed himself for this... this stupid stone! I.. It should've been me." Peter felt Nat's arms wrap around him which made him cry harder. Then the rest of the team hugged Peter. They knew how much Tony loved his son and daughter even if there was a fallout. That didn't matter now, the kid just lost his father who had sacrificed himself. Once this was all over, Tony wasn't going to walk into his house to find Pepper and Morgan.

He wasn't going to be there when Peter got married or see Morgan grow up. He's gone, and there's nothing any of them could do to change that. This... was permanent and the amount of hurt and pain Peter felt was immensely scarring. He doesn't know how he's supposed to tell his mother and sister he's gone and won't return. "I.. It should've been me, Aunt Nat. Not him." Peter said.

"I know sweetheart, I know, but we're gonna get everyone back, your dad's death won't be in vain. I promise." Nat told her nephew. Peter nodded and pulled himself together to finish this once and for all.
