----------

"Penny? You're going to be late if you don't hurry."

"Coming, Aunt May!"

The girl grabbed her backpack, pulling it on, and racing down the stairs.

She burst into the kitchen, nearly slamming into May. "Gotta grab breakfast," she gasped.

May grabbed her shoulders. "Calm down. You've still got five minutes. I made you breakfast."

Penny sighed, relaxing. "You made me think I was late." She complained playfully.

"Yes, because you wouldn't have time to eat otherwise. Skipping meals isn't good."

Penny shrugged. "I eat lunch with Ned, and dinner with Mr Stark after school. He always makes sure u eat on the weekends."

"Still doesn't mean you can skip breakfast."

She shoved a plate of food at the teenager. "Eat."

Penny shook her head wryly. "Okay. I'll eat."

She shoved food in her mouth, eating as quickly as she could.

Then she gasped a hurried 'thank you' before running out the door.

She was late to homeroom, sliding into her seat right before they called role.

"Sleep late?" Ned asked quietly.

Penny glanced over. "No. Patrol last night was bad. I'm a bit sore."

His mouth formed an o. "You good?"

She nodded, her eyes going to the teacher. "Yeah. Just sore. Nothing major, luckily."

-------------

School passed slowly, Penny itching to be out of the stuffy building.

When at last the bell rang, she said a quick goodbye to Ned, and hurried out of the building towards the silver car.

"Hey Happy," she said breathlessly.

He grunted.

She rolled her eyes, pulling out her earbuds.

It was gonna be a long drive.

-------------

Penny opened her eyes to Happy poking her with one finger.

"Wake up kid."

She shot up. "I fell asleep?"

He pointed to the building. "Building. Go."

She grabbed her bag. "Got it. Thanks for the ride!"

She hurried to the lab, saying a quick hello to Friday before the elevator stopped.

Tony Stark was arguing with another person.

The sight of said persons face was enough to stun Penny, all the air rushing out of her lungs.

"Dr. Banner?"

Both men turned to look at her.

"Oh. Hey Pen. Come on over here. Let me introduce you two."

Penny stumbled over, still staring at Bruce.

He seemed to be amused by her shock.

"Anyways. Bruce, old pal, let me introduce you to Penny Parker. Penny, this is-"

She cut him off. "Ohmygosh YOU'RE BRUCE BANNER!" She looked at Tony, gesturing frantically at the scientist. "It's Bruce Banner!"

He tried not to laugh, but failed miserably. "She's a big fan, Bruce. Read all your works. Even better, she understood them."

That got Bruce's attention. "You u derstood them?"

Penny nodded shyly. "I really love your studies on Gamma radiation. They're really cool."

Bruce raised his eyebrows. "Where'd you find this little genius?"

Tony waved his hand aimlessly. "Midtown tech."

Penny rubbed her hands together nervously. "So... what am I going to work on? Anything specific?"

Tony nodded. "I wanted you to show Bruce your webshooters."

She blinked. "What?"

Beside her, Bruce had the same reaction. "What?"

Tony pointed at Penny. "Look at this girl. Look. See how small, and innocent she is?"

Penny huffed. "I could kick your-"

"Language," he interrupted.

Bruce nodded warily. "What's your point?"

Tony clapped his hands together. "Would you believe this tiny innocent human fights crime on a daily basis?"

Penny rolled her eyes. "Seriously, Mr Stark?"

She turned to Bruce. "Since he seems to be enjoying the sound of his voice, I will give you the short version. I'm Spidergirl."

There was an unnerving silence. Then...

"What are your webs made of?"

Tony pulled both of them to Penny's desk. "That's what I was saying. Show him your webs, Pen."

She shot a strand at the ceiling, pulling herself up to hang from it. "Hi."

His mouth dropped open. "Wait, is that-"

Penny dropped down, pulling open a drawer and pulling out a paper. "This is my first draft for making it."

He took it, studying it carefully. "First draft, you say."

She nodded excitedly. "It's a long-chain polymer, related to nylon. On contact with air, it knits and forms an extremely tough, flexible fiber with extraordinary adhesive properties. The web fluid's adhesive quality diminishes rapidly with exposure to air. After approximately 1 hour, certain imbibed esters cause the solid form of the web fluid to dissolve into a powder, leaving virtually no trace. Cool, right?"

He shook his head. "Wow. You've got a smart kid here, Tony."

Tony looked up. "Oh, she's not mine." He was quick to deny it.

Too quick, in Bruce's eyes.

But he shrugged it off, going back to the web formula.

"You're really something, kid."

Penny bounced on her toes. "Thank you so much Mr Banner sir!"

He smiled. "Call me Bruce."

Her eyes widened comically. "Thank you so much! Ned's going to freak when I tell him."

She turned to Tony. "I need to go on patrol, that okay?"

He nodded, giving her a reassuring smile. "Yeah, kid. You go on. We'll have pizza when you get back, yeah? The team will be here by then."

She grabbed her suit from her bag. "Awesome. See you guys later!"

With that, she ducked out of the room.

------------

Hours later, Penny swung over the rooftops, waiting for any sound to indicate crime.

Sadly, there was none.

That was probably a good thing, it just made an uneventful night for her, although she had already stopped several crimes.

Stark tower shone brightly in the distance, the lights extending high in the air, and she got a brilliant idea.

-----------

Tony was with the team in the main room when Penny called.

"Incoming call from, Penny Parker." Friday said over the sound of their lighthearted banter.

Tony sat up. "Accept."

The sound of rushing wind could be heard through the speakers, and panting breath. "Hey Mr Stark. Can you open the window for me?"

Tony shook his head. "Kid, why do you need me to open a window?"

"Because I'm headed full speed at it."

"Friday open window 42b now!"

The window opened with a split second to spare, and a blur of blue and white shot through it, landing heavily on the floor.

Penny lay sprawled on the carpet, giggling, her body shaking from the force of her laughter.

"That," she wheezed. "Was awesome!"

Tony knelt beside her. "Kid."

She looked up. "Y-Yeah?" She went into another fit of laughter.

Tony sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "You're gonna be the death of me. Remind me later to give you a lecture on how dangerous that was. What if I hadn't opened the window in time?"

She accepted his hand, standing up and wobbling to the couch, pulling off her mask. "Then I would be a bug, or arachnid, on a windshield."

Then she realized they weren't the only ones there.

The rest of the Avengers were standing and sitting around the room, various expressions of shock on their faces.

Only Natasha and Bruce were calm.

Bruce because he'd met her before, and Natasha because she wasn't surprised by anything.

Penny waved nervously. "Hi."

Natasha leaned forward. "Spidergirl, hmm?" She said approvingly.

Penny twisted the mask between her fingers. "Uh, yeah. Yeah. I'm Penny. Parker. Penny Parker. Nice to meet you, Ms Romanoff."

Natasha waved her hand. "Natasha. Or Nat. Ms Romanoff makes me feel old."

Penny ducked her head. "Okay."

Holy crap Ned's gonna freak.

The other avengers gradually got over their shock, coming to shake her hand.

Nothing was said about her age, which she was happy about.

She had no inclination to argue about it.

"Who wants to play truth or dare?" Clint suggested.

Penny got up. "I'm going to get changed."

Natasha stood up as well. "Mind if I walk with you?"

Penny nodded shyly. "Of course, Ms- Natasha."

They walked in silence for several seconds.

When they were out of earshot, Nat turned to Penny with a smile. "Would you like to train with me tomorrow? We spiders need to stick together."

Penny bounced on her toes. "Yes!"

Natasha freakin Romanoff just offered me training lessons!

Natasha squeezed her shoulder. "See you back in the room, yes?"

Penny nodded furiously.

------------

When they regrouped in the common room, everyone had already started the game.

Penny sat down beside Tony, waiting for her turn.

It came soon enough, Dteve turning to the smiling girl. "Truth or dare."

"Truth."

"What are your powers?"

Penny's eyes widened slightly. "Uh... enhanced speed, agility, flexibility, enhanced senses, like hearing, sight, and so on. Uh... super strength. I can stick to things. I have natural webbing, but it's weak, so I use manufactured webbing. Uh... and I think that's it."

Clint leaned forward. "So you can stick to things? It's not just the suit?"

Penny got up, walked to the wall, and walked up it, onto the ceiling, and over to them. Then sat down. On the ceiling.

"Penny, get off the ceiling."

She dropped, landing lightly, and sitting back down.

The game continued.

It came back around, and this time, it was Natasha who asked a question. "Truth or dare?"

"Truth."

"What is the heaviest thing you've ever managed to lift?"

Penny stiffened, scenes flashing through her mind.

Trapped.

Pain.

Laughter.

Help me.

"Uh..." she started, ignoring the worried look she got from Tony.

"I guess, it would be the... warehouse?"

There was dead silence for several seconds.

Then a clamor of voices, all surprised, asking questions.

It was incredibly loud, and Penny felt her head starting to pound, and her focus sharpened. She could hear a fly buzzing across the room. See every crack on the wall. Feel every thread of her shirt against her skin.

Too much too much too much

She got to her feet, stumbling to the elevator, having to hold onto the railing to avoid falling.

"Penny?" Someone said behind her.

She pushed the close door button, sliding to the floor.

"My room please."

Friday kept her voice low. "Certainly, Miss Parker."

-------------

Tony gushed everyone as he noticed Penny stumbling towards the elevator.

"Penny?"

She ignored them, and the doors shut behind her.

"Fri, where's she going?"

"Miss Parker has initiated S.O protecol."

He cursed.

Everyone was quiet as they realized what was happening.

"I'm going to check on her. Remember, she has enhanced hearing, so you guys yelling... it's a heck of a lot louder for her."

Their faces were sheepish.

-----------

Penny curled up against the window, eyes on the far off skyline.

There was a gentle knock. "Pen?"

Tony, she realized.

"Can I come in?"

She spoke quietly. "Fri, open the door please."

The door opened slightly, allowing Tony to slip in, closing it behind him. "Is it bad?"

He kept his voice to barely a whisper.

She turned, revealing the tear tracks on her cheeks.

He sighed. "I'm so sorry. I should've warned you about how loud they get."

There was silence before he spoke again.

"What was that about a warehouse?"

She shrugged. "I had one fall on me."

He frowned. "And why wasn't I alerted?"

She looked down. "I didn't have the suit. It was after the ferry. Just before the plane."

He touched her shoulder. "Is it all right if I hug you?"

She glanced back. "Are you just trying to open the door?"

He shook his head, grinning softly. "Nope."

She leaned towards him. "Then yeah."

He hugged her gently. "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you."

She nodded slightly. "I know. But I was being an idiot. I shouldn't have gone after him."

She felt the vibrations of his laugh close to her ear.

"I agree with that."

They remained where they were for several minutes, just enjoying the peace, and the view.

Finally Penny sat up. "I need to get some sleep."

Tony stood up, stretching. "Yeah. It's getting pretty late."

She climbed in the bed, and Tony turned out the lights.

"Night Pen."

"Night dad."

There was a beat of silence.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to say that oh my gosh I'm so sorry-"

He chuckled softly, leaning against the door frame. "Dont worry about it, Pen. I like it."

She was glad it was dark so he couldn't see her blush.

"Oh."

Another beat of silence.

"Are you okay with me calling you that? Because if not-"

"Course. You're like my kid as it is, might as well make it semi-official."

He crossed the room to give her a hug. "Do you want to call me dad?"

"Yeah." She admitted, voice small.

He grinned. "Then do so."

"Okay. Night...dad."

"Good night, kiddo."
