Tony stared down at the picture in his hands with a small smile on his face.
His son had asked to dress up as him for Halloween when he was five years old. Tony had not realized that his son really just wanted to be him not IronMan.
Tony had snapped the picture right before Peter's face lit up with excitement to see his father wearing his suit as well.
"We can be matching daddy!" The little boy cheered before running forward and hugging his father.
"Why are you so upset bambino?" Tony asked holding his boy tight against him.
"I wanted to be you! I meant I wanted a suit and sunglasses. I wanted to be you! But we're matching now so it's still just as fun!" Peter exclaimed poking his fathers cheek.
"Oh you're too cute kiddo" Tony sighed kissing Peter's forehead before leading him outside to go trick-or-treating.
If only Tony knew that the picture he took would be the last picture he would ever take of his son.
While they were out, a car had been speeding out of control and hit Tony. When he woke up, the first thing the man had asked for was his son. Except, there was no son to bring to him.
"MR. STARK!"
Tony put the picture down and wiped his eyes to turn towards Peter who was happily running towards him. A bright smile was on the teens face but it quickly fell when he noticed the tear marks lining Tony's face.
"Are you okay Mr. Stark?" Peter asked walking forwards and taking the seat next to Tony.
"I'm okay kiddo. Is there something you needed?" Tony questioned raising an eyebrow not missing Peter's hesitance to continue.
"I was wondering if you could lend me something. I wanna dress up as you for Halloween" Peter replied with that twiddling his thumbs slightly.
"Kid you can't borrow an IronMan suit for Halloween" Tony sighed shaking his head slightly ignoring the memory flowing through his mind.
"No. I don't want one of those. I wanted to maybe borrow a cheap suit and maybe a pair of sunglasses".
"I meant I wanted a suit and sunglasses. I wanted to be you!"
"Yeah sure kid. I'll lend you something" Tony responded getting a little choked up.
"Mr. Stark you're worrying me. Are you sure you're okay?" Peter stressed making Tony sit back down a gripping lightly at his forearms.
"I'll be okay kid. I've just never liked Halloween" Tony mumbled trying his hardest not to break in front of his— the kid.
"YOU DON'T LIKE HALLOWEEN!" Peter screeched leaning back in absolute horror.
"Not really. It's never exactly been my favourite holiday" Tony sighed but Peter just nodded before letting Tony drag him away.
After a lot of nagging from the teen. Tony finally agreed to go with him to the more urban areas to go trick-or-treating with him.
Peter looked up, already in the suit, when Tony walked out in a similar suit.
"OH COOL WE LOOK THE SAME!"
"We can be matching daddy!"
Tony gripped the door handle some more before letting go trying to mask his panic. For once, Peter didn't pick up on it and happily walked outside with Tony.
When they reached a quiet neighbourhood they both climbed out to go hit up some houses. However, they had chosen the wrong street to go onto.
Peter ran across the street to go to a house and Tony lagged behind.
"DADDY!"
"DADDY NO! SOMEONE HELP MY DADDY!"
"Daddy?"
"Are you okay? It's me. It's Peter"
Tony quickly crumpled to the ground in a panicked state clutching his chest. Peter quickly took notice before running back to Tony, narrowly dodging a car.
Peter turned around to stare at the car. A fear set into Peter's chest knowing that the car would've hit Tony if he had crossed the road.
"Mr. Stark? Are you okay? It's me. It's Peter" the teen grabbed Tony's shoulders before leading the panicking man back to the car and putting him in the back.
Peter sped the car home and quickly brought them down into the lab before leading Tony over to a couch and attempting to pull him out of it.
"Mr. Stark. I'm here. What are you seeing right now?" Peter asked grabbing Tony's hand as a form of comfort.
"My son" Tony whispered making Peter falter slightly.
"Okay Mr. Stark. I need you to listen to my breathing. Try and match it" Peter instructed over exaggerating his breathing helping Tony match it.
Before Peter could react, Tony pulled him into his arms and held him tightly against his chest and openly crying into his hair.
"I'm sorry Pete. I'm so sorry" Tony said I'm gasping breaths running a hand through Peter's hair.
"Why are you sorry Mr. Stark?" Peter asked sensing that Tony needed to talk.
"I'm sorry I never actually call you Peter. I'm sorry I'm so cold whenever you mention your name. I'm sorry. You just remind me so much of my son. Same name. Same curly hair. Same angelic attitude. I'm sorry for being so overprotective. I've already failed my son Peter. Please don't let me make the same mistake twice" Tony ranted cupping Peter's face and trying to stop himself from crying.
"It's of Mr. Stark. I understand that it's hard. I lost my father after he got hit by a car. I never handle Halloween well either because that's when it happened. I just try and ignore it as best as I can y'know" Peter said slightly shrugging his shoulders.
Tony reached over to his desk and grabbed the picture to Peter.
"That's him. He was five years old. This is the last picture I had ever taken of him before I lost him" Tony explained slowly letting his tears stop staring at the face of his missing or dead son.
"Heh. I had that costume. That's what I was wearing when I lost my dad" Peter chuckled lightly tracing over the picture.
"You're kidding" Tony tried to joke letting out a chuckle as well.
"No joke. I remember yelling, we can be matching daddy before hugging him. He was wearing a matching outfit. I just wish I could remember his face" Peter said wiping his eyes as more tears formed.
Tony froze staring at Peter's face before taking a leap of faith.
"Why are you so upset bambino?"
Peter went stiff before looking closely at Tony's face as his mind clicked and any parts of his memories with his father became clear once again.
"I wanted to be you! I meant I wanted a suit and sunglasses. I wanted to be you! But we're matching now so it's still just as fun!" Peter recited his memory his face wide with shock.
"Oh you're too cute kiddo" Tony completed the small endearing memory before pulling Peter close.
"Oh. Oh my god" Peter gasped once again clinging to Tony like a lifeline before letting out a quiet, "dad".
"Yeah. I've got you bambino. Dad's here. You're safe" Tony struggled to say as pure relief washed over his entire being.
For a while, the two said nothing. Just holding each other as they both started crying once again. They both could say they were filled with shock but the love they had stored deep within came out at once.
"God look at you. I guess my baby isn't really my baby anymore huh?" Tony joked loving the quiet laugh he got from his son.
"As much as you don't want it dad. I'll always be your baby. Just for as long as you'll have me" Peter replied leaning back to poke Tony's cheek as he did when he was young.
"Well if that's the case, you're never leaving my side again. You'll be my baby forever" Tony said running a hand through Peter's hair.
"Well I guess I'll have to choice but to look after you when you're old a wrinkly. Not like you aren't already" Peter responded giving a weak wink and giggle.
"I resent that kiddo. I'm nowhere near old yet. All I have is the grey hairs you give me when you're being reckless. I'm just going to have to dye them soon" Tony smirked poking Peter's side relishing in the laugh.
"NO! ALL MY HARD WORK!" Peter exaggerated before laying his head down on the arc laying dormant in his dads chest.
"I'm so glad we found each other again Petey-Pie" Tony mumbled nuzzling Peter's hair.
"I guess we can both start liking Halloween again" Peter added gripping at the back of his fathers suit.
"We're just never going to that street again"

Steve walked into the lab knowing that his lovely husband would be in there either by himself or geeking out with Peter.
It was a long mission that he had gotten home from and he was looking forward to cuddling with his adoptive son and the love of his life.
However, when he walked into the lab he was pleasantly surprised to find both Tony and Peter, in matching outfits, asleep on the couch. Both with dried tear tracks and small smiles on their faces as they laid against each other.
Steve walked over to join them when he noticed the picture laying in Peter's lap. A sad smile spread over his face when he remembered what Tony had told him about that picture.
It didn't take long for a look of realization to spread on Steve's face.
"This is the same Peter laying in front of me in this picture isn't it FRIDAY?" Steve asked not letting his gaze leave the picture.
"Indeed it is Captain Stark-Rogers"
"Oh man only Tony would manage to adopt his own biological son" Steve chuckled quietly before putting the picture back down the swiftly picking both of his boys up into his arms.
What? Being a super soldier has its perks.
As if reading his mind, FRIDAY shut down the lab as Steve walked towards his room.
Steve quickly got out of his suit before taking a moment to snap a picture of Tony still protectively wrapped around Peter.
Steve climbed into the bed before wrapping his arms around both boys making sure Peter was okay right in the middle.
Steve fell asleep knowing Tony and Peter we're both okay and happy. Now with a new found happiness within all of them.
