I'll Protect You (2)
Same TW as the last chapter plus gun violence.
Alicia has no idea what's happening at the moment.
She remembers reading and then getting a call from Peter's school.
And when she answered she was informed that Peter had gotten in a fight.
With Jax.
Now she was sitting in the front office, her two boys sitting in front of her.
Peter had his head down, looking ashamed, and Jax was glaring at the poor boy.
When Alicia had first walked in she was surprised at Peter's appearance.
He had a black eye with cuts and scratches littering his face. Jax had nothing more than a busted lip.
"Mr. Frank could you please explain to me why my kids are sitting in front of me." Alicia already knew the answer of course, she just didn't want to believe that Jax would do such a thing.
She knew Peter sure as hell wouldn't hurt anyone of he had a say in it.
Mr. Frank cleared his throat before he explained. "Well I don't know the full story, but from what I know the boys were outside when Peter punched Jax in the mouth. Jax apparently jumped on Peter and proceeded to punch him. But that is only what I've been told from the other kids."
Alicia sighed and ran a hand through her hair.
"How much trouble are they in?"
"Both will be suspended for a week, Mrs. James."
"Alright, thank you." She grabbed both boys but their book bags and took the to the car.
She didn't say a word on her drive back to the house.
"Alright, what happened."
Alicia was sitting in Peter's room. He refused to come and eat no matter what she said.
"He said that you don't love me. That I don't deserve to be here and I should just leave. That you were planning to get rid of me anyways."
Alicia swallowed her anger and lifted Peter's chin.
"Peter, I do love you. I love you like my own, because you are my own. And you deserve to be here, you deserve better than what I can give you. And for the record, you're stuck with me till the day we die."
Peter gave her a small smile and rested his head on her shoulder. "Promise you'll never leave me?"
Alicia wrapped her arms around him and held him tight. "I promise baby, I'll never leave you."
----
"Why would you say those things to him? I get that you're angry that he's here, but you have to understand that he is your brother now whether you like it or not!"
"But mom he hit me!"
"With the way you've been acting you're lucky all you got was a busted lip!"
Jax sat on his bed, silenced by his mother's words.
Alicia grabbed his shoulders and made him look at her.
"That boy has been through so much in his life. He has been abandoned, abused more than I like to think about. Jax you may think you hitting him does something. But in reality all is does is make him scared and afraid again. You hurting him does nothing."
When Jax said nothing Alicia looked him dead in the eyes. "Do you understand?"
Jax silently nodded, "I understand."
"You better. Now listen, I need to ask a favor of you and I might rethink about breaking your phone."
"I'm going out tonight, I don't want to but me and Gavin haven't had a date night in awhile. I'm going to be out late so if you have a bad dream I most likely won't be here. But Jax and Lillian will and I've made them promise not to hurt you. Is that okay?"
Peter nodded weakly. "It's okay. You need to spend some time with him."
"Okay baby, I'll see you in the morning." She kissed his forehead and left the room.
-----
Jax woke up that night to his sister shaking him.
"What do you want Lil?"
She looked at him with her eyes wide, scaring him a little.
"Peter, he's mumbling and crying and screaming and I don't know what to do! Last time I saw him like that mom was with him!"
Jax got out of bed and followed his sister to Peter's room.
"Stop." Peter whispered, curling in on himself. "I'm sorry. Please don't hurt me again, I didn't mean- no please!"
Jax was hit with a pang of guilt and sadness.
He had never seen Peter like this. It was scary.
"What did you see mom do!" He whisper-shouted to Lillian.
"Um she was holding him and telling him that he wasn't there anymore. That he was here."
Jax looked back at the thirteen year old and saw tears flowing out of his closed eyes.
"Then do that!"
Lillian walked over to Peter and sat on his bed. She reluctantly put her arms around him and held his head on her shoulder.
She gasped slightly when she felt Peter cling to her and felt her nightshirt getting soaked.
"It's okay Peter. You need to wake up." She could feel Peter relaxing at her words and she pushed herself to keep going.
"Just breathe. You're not there anymore, you here with me and Jax. In your room, at home. You need to wake up."
Peter shot out of her grip, looking at her with fear in his eyes.
"Hey Peter don't look at us like that, we're not going to hurt you." Jax was surprised at the gentleness in his own voice.
"Sorry," Peter replied looking down.
"Let's go watch a movie, Lil can make some popcorn and you can pick it out, okay?" Jax had no idea where this softness was from but he went with it.
Peter nodded. "Okay."
Lillian held his hand as the three walked downstairs to watch a movie.
Alicia and Gavin walked in a few hours later to see her kids asleep on the couch.
Peter was hugging Lillian as she had her arms wrapped around him, Jax had and arms draped over Peter with his head on Peter's shoulder.
"Gavin, look at that. Isn't it precious?" She whispered.
Her husband smiles at the sight. "Yeah, glad those three are finally getting along."
Alicia took a picture and made it her home screen.
She also made copies and framed them, putting it all over the house just to embarrass her kids.
-----
Peter and Alicia was sitting on the couch when they heard a window break from the kitchen.
Alicia dropped her book and grabbed Peter's hand, dragging him up the stairs and into his room.
"Jax, Lillian, lock your doors and don't say a word." She told them as she ran past their rooms.
They did it with no question.
Alicia locked Peter's door and they hid in the closest.
She could hear Gavin and whoever was downstairs yelling.
"I don't care who you are! No one comes into my house, scare my wife and kids and expect to get away with it!"
"I do whatever the hell I want!"
There was a gunshot and all went silent.
Peter was crying as he heard heavy footsteps come up the stairs.
Those were not her husbands footsteps.
She wanted to call 9-1-1 but she left her phone downstairs.
Hopefully he doesn't find her kids. Or her.
"Mom, I'm scared." Peter whispered.
"I know baby. But whatever happens-" two gunshots went off "It'll be okay."
Tears streamed down her face as she heard her daughters scream of fear and Jax scream in pain. Two more gunshots and nothing more was heard.
The footsteps got closer.
"Peter listen to me. No matter what happens just know that I love you, okay? I love you so much. I'll protect you, Peter."
"Don't leave me, promise."
Alicia smiled through her tears. "I love you, I promise I'll never leave."
With that the closet door was thrown open and Alicia was covering Peter with her body.
BANG!
Sirens were heard and the man ran away.
Paramedics came and lifted Alicia off of Peter.
"No! Don't take her away from me!" He screamed, crying as two policemen held him back.
"Kid listen, your mom will be okay. But you have to let them take care of her okay?"
"She promised not to leave me!"
------
The two officers took the kid to the police station to search him up. They needed to see if he had any relatives to go to.
When they did, they both just wanted to take him home with them instead.
