Q & A
Hello everyone and welcome to the Question and Answer section of the story! Yay! If you're a new reader and skipped this section for spoilers, TURN BACK NOW! Spoilers do not make you enjoy the story as much, just saying lol.
Anyway, in this section I will be answering questions that you may have asked yourself throughout the story, and some that you readers have asked directly if you did ask.
So, let's get down to it before I start rambling. I'm sure the most important question you're wondering right now is:
Is Calder dead?
And the answer is no. At least not yet anyway ;) You don't know what's ever going to happen in this story! That's what makes it interesting. So I'm not going to spoil that for you. But as of right now when Sylvi took him into the portal, he was alive.
Now onto the questions that might have been asked from the beginning of the story and so on. If there is a question you have that I didn't answer, comment below and I'll answer you directly :)
Q: What in the world made you come up with this story?
A: I was literally at home one day as it was snowing outside, and it came to me while watching Frozen (Don't judge, I'm a kid at heart when it comes to Disney, and Elsa is one of my favorite Disney characters lol!)
I thought to myself, What would a girl in the modern world do if one day she discovered she had powers of ice and snow and was actually a princess of another world? That was when Eerika was born. I have always loved the fantasy world of the fey and other magical creatures, so I wanted to make these characters so.
I also needed a setting of a world that was engulfed in winter. I learned a lot about Norway as I have wanted to travel there for years, remembering how beautiful it was in winter and how much snow there was. So I decided to use aspects of Norway, Old Norse and their mythology, for example the trolls, frost giants, the fjords, and the language. Then the Vinter (Norwegian for Winter) realm was created.
Thus why all the characters' names are Norwegian. Eerika's name is in the Norwegian spelling, among other names that have two Es like Eeira. Eerika's name means 'Ruling Forever' and Calder's means 'Harsh Waters'. I tried to make all their names (at least the main characters') fit well with who they are. For Sylvi I just thought it sounded good.
Next I knew I wanted a love interest for Eerika after deciding on the evil character and background story and all that. That was where Calder came along. I wanted him to have a troubled past and be harsh at first, then ultimately soften because of this tiny headstrong princess who both confuses and surprises him every time they meet. He tries his hardest to keep himself from doing so, but he ultimately falls for her, which was why I chose to make him Sylvi's son. What more of a twist and crime of passion than to fall in love with the girl you have been trained and brainwashed for years to kill? Calder certainly didn't expect that...
Q: Why did you choose to end book 1 the way you did?
A: I honestly planned in my head to have a bigger fight scene than I did. But I'm more of a freelance writer so really I don't plan out the chapter until I start typing. It just flows from my brain onto the screen as I go, taking pauses every now and then to think a moment about the scene or change the dialogue several times to fit it just right.
I always have an idea on how I want the chapter and plot to go, but not set right out until I go to write. I knew I wanted Eerika to be stabbed by Sylvi and have Calder give his powers to her to save her as he mentioned the fey could do at the beginning of the book. I also definitely knew I wanted him to be captured by Sylvi as punishment for saving Eerika instead of her killing him right there.
There would have been no suspense or point in the story to that. He did sacrifice himself, but Sylvi thought, "You know, I could kill him right now, but that wouldn't serve to my benefit of killing her. I need a reason for her to come to me this time so the job can be finished. If she loves him, she'll serve herself on a platter for him."
And that is what we'll explore in book 2. Calder is gone, the palace and village is in disarray, and Eerika has to deal with all of that. It will be nice to see myself if she is going to be able to keep herself together and be the ruler the kingdom needs right now. She is expected to finally become queen and stand on her own, and that will definitely be hard for her without Calder around.
Q: Have Eerika and Calder... "fully connected" yet?
A: No. No, they have not. You perverts...lol
Q: Will Calder be rescued or escape Sylvi by the end of book 2?
A: You'll just have to wait and find out ;)
That's pretty much all the questions and answers I have! If you have any more questions please send them my way so I can answer them. The next section is the playlist for book 1! Xoxo
