【SEASON 6 EPISODE 10: PART TWO】
After training, Jules hoped she'd have some time to rest before her fight the next day, but as soon as she got back to her hotel room, Eli, Lexi, and Demetri all insisted she keep training.
So, throughout the rest of the night, the three would randomly start sparring with Jules. Whether she was brushing her teeth, lying in bed, or even in the shower (Jules was especially mad at Hawk for that one), she had to stay on high alert to ensure she was ready for anything.
They finally stopped as the night wore on, and everyone went to bed to get as much rest as possible before the captain's competition.
Now, Julianna bounced on her toes as she stood between her brother and her dad at the Tournament of Champions. Her stomach had been doing flips since she woke up, but she tried her hardest to ignore it.
"And now, the moment you've all been waiting for—the Sekai Taikai Tournament of Champions!" The announcer's voice echoed around the arena. Jules couldn't ignore the nerves twisting in her stomach anymore as the audience roared around her.
Her eyes scanned the room, finding faces everywhere she looked—teams, spectators, judges. Hundreds of eyes were on her. Jules nervously licked her lips, and when she felt something bump her shoulder, her head snapped to her left.
Johnny stood beside her, his eyebrows raised as he watched her carefully. He dipped his head slightly, silently asking if she was okay.
Julianna forced a weak smile and gave her dad a nod that Johnny immediately knew wasn't genuine.
He opened his mouth to speak, ready to give her some words of encouragement, but just as he started, Gunther's voice boomed through the microphone.
"Welcome, competitors, to the semifinal round of the Sekai Taikai! Each dojo will retain the points they've accumulated thus far. Each match will consist of three two-minute rounds with unlimited scoring and no stoppages. One point for a hit, ten for a knockdown, and a knockout is worth twenty points!" Gunther's voice echoed across the arena, applause trailing off after him.
Jules focused intently on his words, making sure she noted all the ways to earn points and checked off the rules so she wouldn't make any mistakes.
"It's still anyone's tournament to win because, at this stage, no deficit is too large to overcome." Gunther said. Jules's eyes shifted to the scoreboard. Miyagi-Do was in third place, trailing behind Furia de Pantera and Iron Dragons.
She repeated the strategies for earning points under her breath, determined to have them memorized by the time her match began so she'd know exactly which moves would get her the most points.
Her gaze moved from the scoreboard back to Gunther after repeating his words for the fifth time. He smiled as he looked at the gathered teams. "Best of luck to you all, and may the best dojo win." He said, signaling the start of the battles.
"Ladies and gentlemen, competitors and senseis, please welcome to the mat our first semifinalists. From Furia de Pantera, Diego Aguilar and from Cobra Kai, Kwon Jae-Sung!"
Jules watched as the two boys stepped onto the mat. In all honesty, she thought it could go either way. Yes, Cobra Kai was only here on a technicality, but Jules had been watching Kwon fight since they arrived in Barcelona, and he was really fucking good.
After the two boys bowed to the referee and then to each other, the fight began.
Eli, standing on the other side of Robby, glanced away from the match. Leaning back slightly, he looked past Robby to Jules.
Checking to ensure their senseis weren't watching, Eli reached out and gently grabbed Julianna's wrist. He stepped back as he pulled her toward him, catching her by the waist before she stumbled.
"You okay?" He asked softly, brushing a stray strand of hair from her braids behind her ear
Jules sighed, struggling to meet his eyes. "Yeah." She said, trying to sound convincing. But Eli could read her like a book. Raising his eyebrows, he moved his hand to cup her cheek. "Butterflies?" He asked with a small smile.
Jules snickered, finally glancing up at her boyfriend through her lashes. "More like a zoo." She admitted. Her hands instinctively moved to wrap around her churning stomach and her head dropped to the floor nervously.
"Hey, hey..." Eli whispered. His hand moved from her waist to her face, gently tilting it so she had no choice but to look at him.
Once her eyes met his, Eli raised his eyebrows and gave her a reassuring smile. It seemed to settle some of the chaos in her stomach. "You fought Tory before. You can do it again." He said, his thumb tracing soothing circles on her cheekbone.
Julianna let out a quiet, groaning sigh as she leaned her head onto Eli's shoulder. "But I don't want to keep fighting Tory." Jules murmured, her words muffled against Eli's gi.
Eli wrapped his arms around her, his hand running up and down her back as she relaxed into his embrace.
"She's my friend. She's been through so much. She deserves someone to be there for her, a shoulder to cry on—not this competition." Jules said, wrapping her arms around Hawk's shoulders as they hugged properly.
Eli sighed, shaking his head. "Tory knew what she was signing up for when she stayed with Cobra Kai." He said softly, holding Jules tighter as she leaned closer.
"And she knows you're there for her no matter what. She'd want you to give it your all. That's what she wanted when you fought for the captain spot back home, right?" He asked. Jules felt his head shift to look at her, but she kept her cheek pressed against his shoulder.
Julianna thought about his words. Back home, Tory had wanted a fair fight. It wouldn't be any different now—if anything, being at the Sekai Taikai would only make Tory want Jules to fight harder.
She let out a defeated sigh and pulled herself out of Hawks arms just enough to still be wrapped in them, yet able to look up at him.
"Yeah, you're right." Jules admitted. Eli smiled, one hand sliding up to cup her cheek.
His face flushed slightly as he leaned closer, his soft smile turning into a teasing smirk. "I always am. "I always am." Eli teased, making any worry Julianna was feeling immediately get pushed to the back burner. The girl scoffed, unable to hide her smile as she playfully pushed herself out of Eli's grasp.
"The winner by knockout earning an impressive 27 points for Cobra Kai, along with the first spot in our boys final, is Kwon Jae-Sung!"
Jules and Eli's heads snapped toward the mat. Her jaw dropped as she watched the Furia de Pantera team swarm around an unconscious Diego on the floor. "Holy shit..." Jules muttered, stepping back into her spot between her dad and brother.
She slowly looked up at Kwon, who was smirking at the chaos he'd caused. When his eyes flickered toward her team, particularly at Robby beside her, Jules felt a sinking dread in her chest. Something bad was going to happen.
Maria and Zara were called up for their fight next, but Jules hardly paid any attention to it. Her mind started to reel as she really started to think about what she signed up for.
Soon, she would have to fight nonstop all alone against her friend and if she won, she'd move on to fight either: A) a girl who is oddly terrified of her or B) a girl Jules would probably kill if she had the chance.
Oh, and this was being filmed live and thousands of people around the world already had her eyes on her.
She thought about everyone back at home who she couldn't let down. When Bert called her the night prior for their daily FaceTimes while he fed Fred for Jules, he told her that all of Miyagi-Do was heading to the LaRusso's to watch the fight.
Jules could picture everyone crowded around the television, Joey, in his cast, and Mitch probably arguing about God knows what while Amanda circles around the room, trying her hardest to calm everyone down and feed them.
Surprisingly, thinking of Amanda and what she would say as well as thinking of her team cheering her on back home made her smile just a little and she tried her hardest to turn some of her nerves into confidence when—
"And Zara Malik moves onto the girls finals with a dominant shutout!"
Julianna finally snapped out of her thoughts. Her head whipped to the stage and her fists clenched at her sides as she watched Zara blow a kiss to the audience cheering for her while Maria laid on the floor in pain. It pissed Jules off and she wanted to do nothing more than wipe that smirk off the girls face... specifically with her fists...repeatedly.
Looks like if Jules ends up winning her fight with Tory, Jules may kill on live television.
She shook her head and looked up at her dad, who stared at Zara with wide eyes. Julianna took a step closer to him, her eyebrows knit together. "Wait, what? There's no way I zoned out for that long." Jules whispered, making Johnny scoff.
"That's because you didn't. The small one totally kicked Alvarez's ass." Johnny muttered to Jules, leaning closer to her so the others around them wouldn't hear him.
Jules watched Zara as she walked back to her team across the mat from her happily. The girl was practically skipping back to her sensei. Julianna's jaw clenched watching the cocky girl. Since she's been here, all Zara has done is act stuck up and better than everyone else. Someone needed to knock her down a peg.
"Up next, our second boys' semifinals, Axel Kovacevic of Iron Dragons versus Robby Keene of Miyagi-Do."
Jules immediately let Zara leave her mind and turned to face Robby beside her, their three senseis circling around the twins so they could also give Robby words of encouragement.
Julianna wrapped her arms around Robby's neck and pulled him into a hug. "You've got this, bro bro." She whispered, a small smile growing when she felt Robby's chest shake in laughter over the old nickname.
Robby hugged Jules back and when they pulled away, he gave her a nervous smile. "Thanks, Juli."
He turned to face his senseis, Jules turning to look at the men as well since she'd be up there fighting next.
"This is everything we've been working for. You've earned it. Breathe, focus, stay centered. Give him everything you've got." Daniel explained before Chozen quickly leaned forward to butt in, a big smirk on his face as he raised his fist. "And then you give him more." He added, making Robby chuckle.
Johnny pulled Robby into a hug, muttering a few words to him that made the boy smile and with that, Robby gave his senseis and his sister one last look before he walked onto the mat.
"Come on, Robby!" Jules called after him, clapping her hands in excitement. She watched as Robby and Axel bowed to each other and then the referee before the fight started.
Robby made the first move, running at Axel. Every move he did: punches, sidekicks, spin kicks; Axel blocked.
Every. Single. Move.
Robby went to punch the boy in the chest but Axel grabbed his arm and pulled Robby, hoping to knock him to the floor. Robby jumped, using the momentum of Axel's tug to do a one-handed cartwheel, immediately getting out of the boys grasp. When he landed, Robby went back to fighting, Axel practically one step ahead of him with every move.
"His defense is on point. Robby can't get through." Daniel breathed out and Jules scoffed at the man's words, holding back an eye roll out of nervousness.
"Well, duh! The dude is like... eight feet tall!" Jules yelled, pointing to Axel wildly while her other hand went to her mouth to bite her nail.
Johnny turned to his daughter and as soon as he saw Jules biting her nail, he smacked her hand. Julianna jumped at the action, her hand stinging as she looked up at her dad. Johnny only squinted at her, shaking his head. "Stop it."
"Axel!" A voice yelled, pulling the Lawrence's out of their conversation. The two blondes watched as Axel turned to his sensei. The man yelled something Jules couldn't make out and like a flip of a switch, Axel's face hardened. He turned back to Robby and continued fighting, this time playing offense.
Jules was tempted to hide her face in either her dad or Eli's arm watching Axel fight. Even though Robby was holding his own and not giving Axel the opening for a point, every attack Robby blocked made Jules wince in pain.
Robby raised his forearm to block a punch from Axel, but the boy only grabbed Robby's arm and twisted it. Robby and Jules both yelped, Robby in pain and Jules in worry. Julianna turned her head, resting for forehead against her dad's shoulder and shutting her eyes as tight as she could as Axel used his free hand to punch Robby in the stomach.
"Point!"
Jules slowly looked back to the fight when Johnny groaned. "Shit. His offense is even better." Johnny cursed under his breath just as Axel punched Robby in the face, blood spitting out of his mouth.
"Point!"
Jules let out a small gasp, her heart sinking as she started to sway in her spot. Her hand raised to bite her nail again but her hand froze inches away from her face when she saw the looks both her dad and Eli were giving her on either side of her.
Julianna dropped her hand as Daniel sighed. "Defense, Robby!" He yelled, cupping his mouth to insure Robby could hear him.
As Robby got up, wiping the blood from his mouth, Jules noticed the boys back straighten and his entire demeanor change. When Axel came running at him, Robby blocked every single strike. Jules bounced on her toes, chewing on her lip anxiously to stop herself from biting her nails.
Robby went to block two of Axel's punches aimed at his head, but the taller boy twisted Robby's arms, locking them in place. Axel muttered something to Robby before he tossed him backward, Robby stumbling back into the Cobra Kai's. Kwon and Yoon each grabbed one of Robby's arms. Kwon looked around the arena, a smirk slowly growing on his face as he jabbed his elbow into Robby's ribs.
Robby screamed in pain, trying to curl into himself, but Kwon and Yoon had a tight grip on him.
As soon as Robby screamed, Jules was running toward him. "Robby!"
It was like an instinct. Without wasting a second, Jules and Miguel were on the mat, making a beeline toward Robby.
As the two of them got about halfway across the mat, Jules accidentally bumped into Axel, but she barely paid any mind to him. All of her focus was on getting to Robby.
While Miguel got stuck with Axel, Julianna finally made it to the Cobras circling her brother. She pushed through their small huddle, making sure to be as aggressive with her elbows as she could before she finally stepped in front of Robby, and pushed Kwon backward.
"Cheap shot, really? Can't take him on the mat, so you try and get him off the mat?" Jules spat as Kwon stumbled backward.
The boy looked shocked by Julianna's outburst, looking down at where she hit him with wide eyes as Yoon and another Cobra caught him so he didn't fall.
Kwon ran his hands over his gi, ironing out the wrinkles created before he looked back to Jules. His shock cracked into a smirk and he pushed his hands out, shoving Jules back.
Since she was standing right in front of Robby, Jules fell back into her brothers chest. She felt his hands grab her sides to catch her before he moved her behind him, getting right in Kwon's face.
"Back off of her!" Robby warned, getting so close to Kwon's face, it made the boy take a small step back. Kwon chuckled, looking to Yoon beside him and pointing to Robby before his smirk was wiped clean from his face.
It happened in a blink of an eye, but suddenly Kwon's hands were gripping Robby's shoulders, holding him in place. Jules immediately jumped to try and help Robby, but Yoon stepped in front of her, his arms wrapping around her waist to hold her back.
From across the mat, Eli watched as Yoon grabbed Julianna and instantly, he was starting to run toward her. "Jules!" He yelled, only getting about a foot away from the team before Daniel's arms wrapped around him, holding Eli back from adding on to the fight.
"Stop this! Get ahold of yourselves! Everyone off the mat now! Or this tournament–" Gunther's words were cut short by a loud boom. Jules lifted her head as she tried to break free from Yoon's grip and saw Gunther unconscious on the floor, Sensei Ivanov standing above him.
Suddenly, all hell broke loose. The faces around Jules started to blur as everyone joined in on the fight.
Julianna felt a burning pain in her stomach and she bent over, yelping in pain. Her hands wrapped around her gut where Yoon had just punched her before he let go of her to go to Kwon and Robby. She lifted her head and watched as Yoon grabbed Robby's arms and pinned it behind his back while Kwon started to punch him in the stomach.
"Robby!" Jules yelled, ignoring the pain in her own stomach to help Robby.
Suddenly, someone trying to join in on a completely different fight rammed into Julianna, making her stumble away from Robby and the Cobra Kai's. She quickly caught her footing so she didn't fall and looked up.
Just about ten feet in front of her was Zara.
Her chest heaved with the anger coursing through her veins as she watched the girl look around for a fight. When her eyes locked with Julianna's, a cocky smirk tugged at her lips as she eyed Jules up and down.
"You think I can't take you, blondie?" Zara chuckled, her voice filled with arrogance.
Jules shrugged, her jaw tightening as the anger burned hotter inside her. Her vision seemed to tunnel, the edges blurring as she locked onto Zara a her hands tingled. "Let's see." Jules muttered before she lunged at Zara.
The sudden attack caught Zara off guard, but she recovered quickly, raising her forearms to block Julianna's rapid strikes.
They went back and forth; with every hit Jules blocked, she got another and vice versa. Zara landed on a punch on Jules that gave Julianna a busted lip and Jules kicked Zara in the face so hard, Zara's nose was bleeding. All Jules could think about was Zara—the smirk on her face, the smug look in her eyes, the memory of what she had done to her brother.
Zara stepped forward, her knee aiming for Jules' side, but Jules twisted just in time, sending a kick to Zara's ribs. Zara grunted, stumbling slightly, but regained her footing with a sneer.
"You're stronger than you look." Zara taunted, her words sharp and mocking. The smirk on her face, only pissed Julianna off more and the blonde shrugged carelessly.
"And you're weaker than you think." Jules shot back.
Her words must've flipped a switch for Zara because she suddenly surged forward, aiming a punch at Julianna's face. Jules sidestepped, her heart pounding with adrenaline. The fight blurred into a flurry of attacks and counterattacks back and forth until Jules saw her opening.
She lunged forward and grabbed a handful of Zara's hair. It may have been a dirty move, but Jules didn't care. She wasn't get any points for this fight. It was real life.
Once the girls hair slipped between Julianna's fingers, she yanked hard. Zara yelped, her hands immediately flying to her scalp to claw at Jules' grip.
Zara's nails scratched and tore at Julianna's skin, drawing blood, but Jules didn't care, her only way of showing her pain was a simple eye twitch. Her grip tightened as she twisted Zara's head slightly, forcing her down. Zara squeaked in pain, dropping to her knees.
Julianna's chest heaved as she took a step closer to Zara, her hand still holding a handful of the shorter girls hair. Julianna's eyebrows were drawn low, her lips curled back in a snarl, and her nostrils flared with each shaky breath.
"You're lucky I don't fucking kill you for what you did to my brother." Jules hissed through her gritted teeth, her voice trembling.
Zara glanced up. If she was scared of Jules, she was hiding it pretty well. She smirked up at Julianna, tilting her head defiantly. "Kiss my ass." Zara spat, her voice wavering. Jules couldn't tell if it was from pain or fear, and she didn't care.
Julianna's jaw clenched, her eyebrows raising as an angry scoff passed her lips. "Yeah?" She asked, tilting her head in a mock confusion.
Then, her anger came right back, her face leaning closer to Zara's. "Well, kiss this, bitch!"
Julianna's fist shot out, slamming into Zara's cheek with a sickening thud. The force snapped Zara's head to the side, but she barely had any time to react before Jules followed it up with a brutal headbutt.
She finally let go of Zara's hair, watching as the girl curled into herself, cradling her face as she groaned in pain.
Jules stood over her, breathing hard, her hands trembling from the adrenaline.
Zara's eyes flickered up, her shock visible before it slowly hardened with anger, Jules took a step back, lifting her chin as if daring Zara to come at her this time.
Before Zara could stand, someone moved to stand next to Jules. She flinched, her fists flying up instinctively, but she relaxed when she saw Tory standing there.
Tory's eyes were glued on Zara, who was now sporting a disheveled ponytail and the beginnings of a purple bruise around her eye. "Holy shit." Tory muttered, her voice low with shock and admiration. She glanced at Jules and gave a small nod. "Nice job."
A breathless chuckle escaped Jules' lips. "Thanks." She managed to breathe out, her attention going back to Zara, ready to fight her with Tory until–
"Come on, you roided-out bitch!"
The sound of Demetri's voice made Julianna's head snap away from Zara. her eyes scanned the arena until they found Demetri on stage with Lexi and Eli, seven Tiger Strike members circling them.
"Dammit, Demetri!" Jules cursed, making Tory follow her gaze.
Tory's eyes bounced between her old teammates getting circled on the stage and Zara five feet in front of her. After a couple seconds, Tory turned back to Jules. "You go!" She said, making Jules turn back to her. Tory nodded, her head to Zara, keeping her eyes on Julianna. "I'll be okay!"
Jules hesitated for only a moment before sending Tory a grateful look through her tired eyes. She turned and sprinted toward the stage, leaving Tory to face Zara alone.
Julianna shoved her way through the crowd, weaving around tumbling bodies and shoves from other fighters. Her heart twisted at the sight of Eli, Lexi, and Demetri locked in their fights, each of them struggling with at least two people each.
When Jules reached the stage, she launched herself up, her sneakers skidding slightly. Her eyes immediately landed on Eli, who was still cornered by three boys. She sprinted toward him, and without hesitation, she threw herself into the fight, stopping one of the boys mid-punch with a kick to his side.
The boy stumbled but quickly recovered, lunging at Jules. She ducked under his first fist, and she tried to twist to avoid a second punch, but she got clipped in the shoulder. Jules winced but didn't let herself react too much.
Julianna surged forward, throwing a roundhouse kick toward the boy that connected with his ribs. Meanwhile, Lexi sent a sidekick to the chest of one of the boys she was fighting, sending him sprawling backward. The boy crashed to the ground and rolled off the stage, groaning in pain, leaving Lexi with just one more boy to fight.
Jules kept her focus on her opponent, but out of the corner of her eye, she checked on Eli and Demetri. Both were down to a single opponent, holding their ground. Satisfied, Julianna turned back to the boy in front of her, her fists up and ready.
Before she could strike, a loud war cry erupted from her right. A blur of yellow shot past her, a foot connecting squarely with the boy's chest and sending him flying backward. He hit the ground hard, groaning in pain.
Jules froze in shock, her breathing heavy. She looked up and found Maria standing there, a big smirk on her lips.
"Holy shit. Thanks." Jules panted, a small smile breaking through her exhaustion.
Maria instantly shook her head, dismissing the girls thanks. "It was nothing." She said, trying to catch her breath like Jules while her stance relaxed.
Once it started to get easier to breathe, Maria stepped closer, and Jules instinctively straightened, her body tensing in defense. Maria raised a hand, her expression softening. "Sorry about the other night. I really didn't know you two were dating."
Jules let out a breath, her posture relaxing as she shook her head. "You're alright. I would've flirted with him too." Julianna joked, her eyes moving to Eli just as he finished his last fight which made Maria chuckle, Jules joining in with her.
Their laughter was abruptly cut short by a bone-chilling scream. Jules froze, her blood running cold as the arena fell silent. She turned slowly, her heart pounding as a crowd began to gather at the center of the mat, Daniel at the front of the crowd.
She felt a hand grabbing hers tightly and Jules glanced up at Eli, her breath hitching as he stared off at the crowd. He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze before leading her toward the crowd.
She felt like every step she took, her heart sank further and further. When they reached the mass of bodies, Eli pushed through, parting the crowd with Jules right behind him. She felt a tug on her other wrist and turned to see Demetri, his expression matching her own fear. He held Lexi close behind him, guiding her along as they followed.
Finally, the four teens reached the front and Julianna's breath caught in her throat, her stomach twisting violently as her eyes landed on the scene before her.
Kwon laid motionless on the mat, blood pooling beneath him. Daniel knelt by his side, his hands trembling as he whispered the boy's name.
Jules was holding onto Eli's hand so tight, she was shocked the boy didn't wince. He was just as frozen as she was, his wide eyes fixed on Kwon's lifeless body.
Lexi choked back a sob, staring at the boy on the floor with tears in her eyes. Her throat burned as if it were starting to close. She looked up at Demetri with wide eyes. "Dem, he's not moving..."
Instead of answering, Demetri wrapped Lexi in his arms and pulled her into his chest. Lexi's face hid in Demetri's chest and he held her tightly, his own face turned away, unable to look.
But Jules and Eli couldn't look away and watched as Daniel slowly reached for Kwon's shoulder. His hand shook as he gently turned Kwon onto his back. Julianna felt sick to her stomach as Kwon lifelessly roll onto his back, a knife sticking out of his chest.
She felt bile rise in her throat as a whimper slipped passed her lips. "Oh my God." She whispered, her voice trembling. She couldn't tear her eyes away and neither could Eli.
After a couple seconds, Eli gulped, trying to relieve his currently dry throat but it was no use. "Don't look." He managed to croak out, his voice rough. His hand that was once in hers slid to the small of her back and up until his hand was cradling her head.
Gently, Eli guided her face into the crook of his neck, his hand staying entangled in her hair as his other hand wrapped around her waist to pull her as close to him as she could, her body flush against his as if shielding her from the world.
"Don't look, baby." He murmured into her hair, his voice breaking. His own eyes squeezed shut, burying himself in her blonde hair to escape the sight of the horror in front of them.
"Cut the feed!"
